APC Sermons

In Scripture God uses elements of nature to reveal certain aspects about His nature and His Person. We see many examples in Scripture: God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29), like the wind (John 3:8), like the river (John 7:37-39), etc. One interesting element in nature that God uses to reveal aspects of Himself is lightning. Lightning is one of the Bible's symbols of the immediate manifestation of God's glory, holiness, power, authority, judgment, revelation, victory, and supernatural activity. It communicates that heaven is breaking into the earthly realm with irresistible power. In this sermon we review the significance and comparisons of lightning when used in Scripture to speak of various aspects of God and heavenly beings. The Lightnings of God represent: God's glory, the Suddenness of His working, the Power, the Holiness, His Revelation and His deliverance. God doesn’t just have lightning; lightning issues from His presence, His throne, or His hand. He is the Source. We can only walk with God, experience and encounter Him, if we walk in agreement with Him. One of the areas where we must be in agreement with God is in the words we speak. We must learn to declare who God is and what He has promised. When we do so, we are positioning ourselves to encounter His presence. The New Testament teaches us that as believers we walk in fellowship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Our pursuit of His presence leads us into a place of constant fellowship with Him. Fellowship is intimacy and partnership. When we fellowship with God, we know His heart and we partner with Him. Our fellowship with Him is based on His body and blood. In order to maintain our fellowship with God, (a)we must walk in the light, (b)we must walk in love and (c)we must walk with a clear conscience. In this sermon we consider private personal prayer - our time alone with God and what happens to us as we pursue God in this manner. We consider these five important changes: 1, Content in His presence. 2, Confronted by His presence. 3, Counseled in His presence. 4, Centered in His presence. 5, Cherished in His presence. Our private, personal time of prayer happens often in the prayer room. But we carry this with us through the day in ongoing conversations with the Lord. Meditating on God is one of the ways we pursue God and His Presence expressing our seeking, thirsting, longing, looking, and expecting to see/encounter God’s power and glory. And we know, when we seek Him, we will find Him. Biblical meditation includes reciting Scripture aloud, whispering Scripture to oneself, repeating it continually verbally or inwardly, pondering on it, visualizing it in our mind’s eye (imagination) and reflecting on how to obey it. It engages the mind, the mouth and the imagination and results in life change or life transformation. We share ways to practice Biblical meditation: 1. Scripture repetition throughout the day, 2. Meditative journaling, 3. Scripture memorization with reflection, 4. Meditating during daily work, 5. Word meditation before sleep. We also share about Communal meditation.
