Son of Man & the Ancient of Days | Revelation 1:13-14
In this teaching we will examine the One like a Son of Man from Daniel 7 and his relationship to the Ancient of Days. There are two old version of Daniel in Greek that equate the Son of Man with the Ancient of Days. John seems to be using these texts as his reference point in Revelation 1:13-15. What are the implications of this for our understanding of inspiration? Of Christology? Of Daniel 7?Select Sources:Aune, David E. Revelation,. 3 vols. (WBC). Sleeping Gods & Kings of Chaos
The psalms appear to give contradictory images of God in relation to sleep. Psalm 121 says that Yahweh never sleeps, that he is eternally vigilant in protecting his people from all evil. Psalm 44:24 gives exactly the opposite picture, however. The psalmist calls upon God to wake up and save his people from the wicked who threaten to devour them. How do we make sense of this? Scholars have varying approaches to deal with this seeming contradiction. The answer lies in the Ancient Near Eastern sleeping deity motif. In this video I will explain what that is, why it matters, and how it emphatically points to the deity of Jesus Christ.

He Who Is & Who Was & Who Is Still to Come | Yahweh in Revelation | Revelation 1:4b
Revelation 1:4 Grace and peace to you from "he who is," and who was, and who is still to come In this teaching I will go in depth and analyze this famous phrase. Scholars notice how anomalous it is in the Greek. Why did John write it this way? How does it point back to the Septuagint and the Aramaic Targums? How does this phrase aid in our understanding of the philosophy of God and time? Does the Greek grammar point to the Trinity? What is the connection between this verse and the divine council worldview? We will discuss these questions and more!

To the Seven Churches & the Church Universal | Revelation 1:4a
Revelation 1:4-5a “John, to the seven churches that are in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from "he who is," and who was, and who is still to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ - the faithful witness, the firstborn from among the dead, the ruler over the kings of the earth.” These verses are an ancient epistolary greeting. How do we know this? What are the literary elements that make up an epistolary greeting? John is writing to the seven churches. How should we interpret these seven? Are they simply literal churches? Or do they represent something more? We will discuss these questions and more in this installment of our continuing series on the book of Revelation.

Apocalyptic Blessings | Revelation 1:3
Revelation 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. The reason the readers and hearers should keep the words of this prophecy is because the time is near. But what does this mean? Many interpretations have been offered. Daniel Wallace notes the importance of the definite article. It is “The time”. It signifies the well known period of eschatological consummation. The OT prophets looked forward to the last days. But Christ’s first coming kicked off the last days. According to Peter the last days have begun. 1 Peter 4:7 “The end of the world is coming soon.” While we don’t know exactly when the end will be, we are to live sober, holy lives in expectation of it. 2 Peter 3:11-12 “Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along.” It seems the timing of the end has some relation to the behavior of God’s people. The eschaton is coming, this world is ending, and the final reward belongs only to those who are obedient.

Apocalypse Now | Revelation 1:1-2
In this video we will be discussing Revelation 1:1-2. We will address the following questions and themes: What is the meaning of the word “apocalypse”? How is the apocalypse applied to Jesus Christ? Revelation is revealed in symbols, how does this affect our interpretation? John is told this vision most “shortly come to pass.” This seems straightforward, but is it? Does this phrase prove the preterist interpretation of the book? How does Daniel 2 aid our understanding? Join us as we begin our verse by verse analysis of the book of Revelation!!

The Old Testament, The Prophets & The Book of Revelation | Introduction Part IV
In our fourth introductory session on the book of Revelation we will be examining how John uses the Old Testament. Revelation is famous for its extensive Old Testament quotations and allusions. John goes so far as to use irregular Greek grammar to make sure we don’t miss the Old Testament passage he has in mind. Scholars also point out the Jewishness of the book. It is so obviously Jewish, especially from chapters 4 and on, that one scholar has suggested that 4-11 was written by John the Baptist. And a few have suggested that the book was originally written in either Hebrew or Aramaic. There is debate as to whether Daniel or Ezekiel influenced John the most. Other scholars emphasize, variously, Isaiah, Exodus, and Zechariah as being models for Revelation. In addition to John’s direct use of the OT, he also develops important OT themes throughout Revelation, including holy war and the day of Yahweh. We will discuss these issues and more!

Apocalyptic Prophecy: The KEY to Understanding The Book of Revelation | Revelation Intro Part II
Identifying the literary genre of the book of Revelation has garnered much scholarly debate. In this video we will discuss the various literary options that been offered by scholars in their quest to identify the genre of the Apocalypse. Some discussion points include: What is apocalyptic literature? Is apocalyptic prophecy different than general prophecy? Does the book of Revelation have an epistolary framework? If so, how does that impact our understanding? How does the book of Revelation identify itself?

Nahum Part IX: The Death of Assyria (3:14-19)
At the height of Assyrian power, when they had conquered Thebes, forced Tyre to surrender, subdued Babylon, and plundered Susa, Nahum stood up and prophesied their complete destruction. Today we’ll be looking at the final piece of Nahum’s prophecy, the third taunt song of chapter three. In this video we will discuss the following topics: The spiritual symbolism of water. The futility of defying Yahweh. The connection between Nineveh and God’s promise to Abraham. Shepherds vs the Good Shepherd. The fatal wound of the Assyrian and it’s connection to the beast in Revelation 13. How the Assyrian, the king of Tyre, and the king of Babylon serves as models of Satan and the antichrist. We will also have a lengthy discussion about demon locusts and their king, Gog. This will take us into Ezekiel 38-39, Joel 1-2, Amos 7, and Revelation 9. Within this discussion we will explore Nahum’s mention of the “sun rise” and how later biblical authors expanded this concept into a full blown Messianic title. And when Jesus arrived on the scene, his interactions with the demonic was in fulfillment of these prophesies. Please like, share, and subscribe to help the channel grow! God Bless!

Nahum Part VIII: The City of Amon Ra (3:8-13)
In this study we will explore Nahum’s second taunt song in chapter three. The taunt compares Nineveh with Thebes. The Assyrians conquered Thebes in 663 BC and Nahum uses this as the backdrop for a further discussion of Nineveh’s imminent destruction. Just as Thebes, which was strong and well fortified, fell to the Assyrians, so too will Nineveh fall to Babylon. The most interesting part of this study to me is in the discussion about the connection between the cup of Yahweh’s wrath and the cup of blessing in the new covenant. Before I started this study I was not aware of this connection but it’s well known in the scholarly literature. The final section of this video is dedicated to this topic.

Nahum Part VII: Woe to The Bloody City! (3:1-7)
Nahum chapter 3 contains three taunt songs directed at Nineveh, her goddess, her king, and Mystery Babylon. Each of these taunt songs contains a rhetorical question. In this study we will explore the first of these taunt songs, which is verses 1-7. It begins with “Woe” and we must identify the meaning of the woe oracle. Who is it directed towards? Why is it being pronounced? What links does this woe oracle have with our own time? And what connection exists between this woe oracle and the book of Revelation? We will then have to identify the prostitute, the mistress of sorcery. Who is this prostitute? How is sorcery involved? How does she represent future mystery Babylon? Why does the Lord pronounce the specific judgment that he pronounces? And finally we will seek to understand the meaning of the rhetorical question that ends this first taunt song. Nineveh will have no comforters in hell. How does this relate to the name Nahum? What does Nineveh’s judgment have to do with ancestor veneration and funerary rituals? Join us as we discuss these issues and more! Thank you for listening. If you like the content please like, share, and subscribe to help the channel grow.

Nahum Part VI: Desolation, Decimation, Devastation! (2:1-13)
We’re continuing our study of the book of Nahum. In this study we will go through chapter 2. I personally learned a lot preparing this study. I wasn’t aware of how much supernaturalism was laced throughout Nahum chapter 2. The chapter begins with a description of the Divine Warrior and his army coming to do battle. While a surface reading leads one to believe the primary enemy is Nineveh, Nineveh is actually not mentioned until verse 8. This ambiguity is intentional and encourages us to view this battle in a cosmic eschatological sense; which links directly with the book of Revelation and #MysteryBabylon We also find multiple references to the goddess Ishtar throughout the chapter. Additionally, we will discover allusions to the Rephaim, the primeval sea, the chaos of Genesis 1:2, and poisoned spiritual water. Finally, we will seek to discover the identities of the lion, lioness, young lion, and lion’s cub. Join us as we continue exploring this amazing book of prophecy! Thank you for listening. Nahum Part V: Belial & The Gospel (1:8-15)
As we continue our study of the book of Nahum, in this study we will examine Nahum 1:8-15. What is “the darkness” into which Yahweh chases his enemies? What did the Jewish scholars who translated the Targum believe it to be? Nahum challenges us to examine our hearts before the Lord. Today is the day of repentance and salvation. Let us not harden our hearts into impenetrable thorns, dried and ready for burning. Nahum predicts the coming of the counselor of Belial. Who is this figure? What is his connection to antichrist and the false prophet? Yahweh challenges the gods of Assyria and promises to bury them, the counselor, and Belial. Who is Belial? When will he be totally cut off? Nahum also gives us a glimpse of the gospel. Directly referencing a prophecy from Isaiah, we read of the messenger that brings the gospel and announces peace. The Apostle Paul picks up this phrase from Isaiah and Nahum in Romans 10. There is also a connection between these prophecies and the Armor of God in Ephesians 6. Join us as we analyze these ideas and many more in the incredible book of Nahum!

Nahum Part IV: Theophanic Upheavals & the Death of Chaos (1:3-8)
Continuing our study of the book of Nahum. The section we are studying today is the main reason I was interested in doing this deep dive into Nahum. It’s an incredible passage of scripture. The theophany of Yahweh that Nahum describes contains many of the same elements we see throughout other OT theophanies. We see Yahweh in the whirlwind in Job and Ezekiel. We also see a reference to the Cloud Rider. The Cloud Rider is a title of Yahweh the God of Israel. It’s also used of the Son of Man in Daniel 7:13. And Jesus Christ claims this title for himself, one of the many places he claims to be Yahweh the God of Israel. We will also see Yahweh as the Divine Warrior as he attacks Sea and River, both chaos deities in the Canaanite religion. He then judges Bashan, Carmel, and Lebanon. To understand this we will have to find out what gods and entities dwelt in these places. What do these locations have to do with hell, Hercules, and the Anunnaki? And when the mountains quake before Yahweh, what does this have to do with the kingdom of Satan? This passage also contains one of the main themes of the Hebrew Bible. Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. This is a critical verse. We will explore its implications. Join us as we continue our investigation of this fascinating book with one of the most interesting poems in the OT!

Nahum Part III: Vengeance, Grace & Rage (1:2-3)
In this study we will look at 1:2-3b. Why is Yahweh called an avenging God three times? Is there a relationship between this threefold usage and the Trinity? What are the connections between this passage and the Canaanite deities El and Baal? Who are Yahweh’s foes? And what does it mean that he maintains rage? Nahum repurposes the writings of Moses. What do we glean from his usage of the Torah? And how do Paul and Peter expand on what Nahum has prophesied? In this section of scripture about God’s vengeance and justice we are also reminded of his great grace. Join us as we continue our analysis of this amazing book of prophecy!

Nahum Part II: The Oracle (1:1)
Continuing our study of the book of Nahum. What is meant by the Hebrew word “massa”? Is it an oracle or a burden? Was it’s usage banned by Jeremiah? In this study we will begin to connect Nineveh with Babylon and Tyre and ultimately Mystery Babylon in Revelation 17 & 18. Why do scholars view Nineveh as representative of the eschatological enemy? Where was Nahum’s hometown of Elkosh located? Did Jesus Christ himself minister there? Join us as we continue our exploration of this incredible book of prophecy and poetry!

Christus Victor | The Defeat of the gods & The Powers of Darkness
In this study we will be going in depth into Colossians 2:15, one of the famous Christus Victor passages. We will discuss the following topics: The similarities between the Roman triumphal procession and the triumph of Christ over the powers of darkness. The identities of the evil powers and their relationship to new age spirituality. The Gospel of Nicodemus. Spiritual warfare, both now and at the eschaton. Jesus, Wisdom, & The Riddle of Violence
Matthew 11:12 ESV “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.” NLT “And from the time John the Baptist began preaching until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been forcefully advancing, and violent people are attacking it.” 1984 NIV “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.” There are few sayings of Jesus over which such a flood of explanations has been poured in various combinations and whose understanding still remains so uncertain. Is this saying about violence and the kingdom of heaven a wisdom teacher’s riddle? If so, does that help to explain why this saying of Jesus has proven so difficult to interpret? In this study we will seek to answer these questions and explain one of the New Testament’s greatest interpretive riddles. Select Sources Carson, D. A. “Matthew,” in EBC, vol. 8. Yahweh & El Elyon
#Yahweh #Elyon #DivineCouncil It seems to be the majority view among scholars that pre exilic Israel shared the polytheistic worldview of her pagan neighbors. In this view, Yahweh was a member of the pantheon (one of the sons of Elyon) and became Israel’s National god (Deuteronomy 32:8-9). Over time Yahweh subsumed the characteristics of the gods of Canaan and emerged as the head of the pantheon (Psalm 82). Israel slowly evolved into monotheism and their scriptures were then redacted and all traces of the previous polytheism were removed. Michael Heiser “This evolution, according to the consensus view, was achieved through the zealous commitment of Israelite scribes who edited and reworked the Hebrew Bible to reflect emerging monotheism and to compel the laity to embrace the idea.” Except these same scholars who promote this consensus opinion also state that all traces of the previous polytheism weren’t fully redacted and that’s why we have Deuteronomy 32 and Psalm 82. Deuteronomy 32:8-9, as I mentioned, is cited in support of this evolutionary view by assuming that Yahweh and Elyon are separate deities. Heiser “this consensus view lacks coherence on several points.” In this study we will go through the scholarship, and there has been a lot written on this subject. I will be quoting many scholars, even scholars who believe in the consensus view, to show that, in fact, Yahweh and El Elyon are one and the same.

Yahweh: The Killer of Chaos, The Destroyer of the Anunnaki
#Yahweh #DivineWarrior #AsTheChaosDies Nahum 1:4 is one of my favorite verses for supernatural war and eschatological awesomeness! Yahweh, the Divine Warrior, attacks Yam and Nahar, the gods of chaos. He then moves on to Bashan, the location of hell to the Canaanites, and the site of Mount Hermon. Mount Hermon is where the sons of God descended in the days of Jared. Carmel is then attacked. This is the location of Elijah’s confrontation with the prophets of Baal. Which Baal did Elijah challenge? The answer may surprise you! Finally, Lebanon is addressed. What does Lebanon have to do with supernatural war? I could give one word, “Annunaki”. The Babylonian version of the Epic of Gilgamesh mentions these entities. But there is more to Lebanon than just the Annunaki. And the answer may be found in the writings of Ezekiel. Join to us discover the details and much more!
