Marion's Posts in Honor of Thomas Leonard “If we ever stopped sharing Thomas stories, thoughts, ponders, pictures, etc., it would be a sad day! Thomas helped every one of us - whether we knew him or not - become who we are today. His influence is ever present in every coaching conversation, every training, every book about coaching, etc. My biggest fear for many years was that Thomas would die and so would coaching. I so loved how he propelled coaching forward, gave it so much life, and how he carried such a big vision that included all of us. Every conversation, interaction, meeting, tele class, conference was a blessing for me in that I ALWAYS learned something useful and helpful. Even meeting him at a conference by the elevator. I made a quick comment and he said "I basically hate being with people." I was surprised, but it showed me how despite that feeling, there he was amongst hundreds of people and I tried to imagine what that must have been like for him. It opened up my thinking around things we don't like or are uncomfortable around… so what? It was those quick encounters or the times when he opened his phone for personal conversations that I loved. Asking him a question that seemed so fraught with ambivalence and not knowing and having him respond with a simple word or question or statement that changed everything was absolutely amazing. “ “Thomas was not only an out-of-the box thinker, he took action steps and/or got people to stand behind him. When he talked about 'arranging confidence' I was most intrigued. Whenever he felt that he was onto something but wasn't sure if it would fly, he would connect with his trusted R&D team. The best part was that he really listened to what we had to say. When I complained about the Personal Foundations course needing some help - especially in how it was taught for coaches to use, he immediately summoned a group and we got right to work on how to change it for the better.More importantly, Thomas once said to me "If you are inspired, you don't need motivation." For me, Thomas was that inspiration. He was fiercely afraid of and disliked talking with groups of people so he created the Millennium Tour where he would have to do that non-stop. I'll never forget when I first met him in person how shocked I was that he wasn't about 90 years old because he had produced so much material. He got a real chuckle out of that. When Thomas was alive, there was always something to look forward to - a new program, a new way to market, a new idea around coaching skill, a new form for something, etc. He so lived from abundance because he just kept on giving. Sure, we can get into some of the things he did/ didn't do that didn't go over well, but overall, he was a true inspiration that kept on believing and never giving up on what he saw as possible. I loved how he shared some really personal things about himself, showed us personal photos - he kept himself off of the pedestal despite so many wanting to put him there. Now that coaching is more mainstream (vs. What sport? as we used to hear), Thomas left in place exactly what he needed to and likely what he had hoped for and had a vision of…. I can't imagine anyone creating as much as he did in such a brief time with an office that never looked used!In my mind, he leaves a huge void/ vacuum because he can't continue to create, and on the other hand, he is always with us because of all that he did create.”- Marion Franklin Resources Goal Getter Group Coaching Program – started on December 18, 2024. An Approach to Organizational Change Resilience
Organizations have either been purposefully designed or have evolved to operate efficiently and effectively in routine environments characterized by stability and predictability. This often translates into employees feeling psychologically safe in an environment where they can repeat their performance in a known situation. Over the last decade, volatility in natural, economic, and social systems increased faster than many organizations and individuals can adjust, resulting in organizational vulnerability toward rapidly changing conditions and facilitating a sense of uncertainty and unsafety. Such fast-moving events are overwhelming many organizations and impacting their ability to manage the adverse effects of systemic volatility. Individual and team responses to volatility are impacting organizational outcomes. In this episode focusing on Executive Coaching and Organizational Development, Tijen speaks with Cynthia Lait, ACC, about the Genco Method approach to organizational resilience. The Genco Method approach to resilience is about coaching individuals’ and teams’ responses and reactivity to volatility by building strength and capacity to embrace, adapt, and innovate during the ever-changing conditions, moving away from change-cooping and bouncing back organizational response toward change-thriving organizational capability. Genco Method Five Steps to Resilience
In this episode of Coaching With Mastery & Elegance With Tijen Genco, we dive into understanding resilience and Tijen’s unique approach to cultivating it. Tijen puts it best when she says, “Every adversity comes with the potential to develop superpowers. Our response to shrinking when facing challenges often keeps us from that potential." Adversity can be an invitation to relate to life differently, one in which we partner with our challenges to expand our capacity and reach our full potential instead of seeing them as “something to get rid of,” which Tijen refers to as the ultimate cognitive distortion. We discuss Tijen’s upcoming Group Coaching Program, Rising Through Resilience, where she will coach her participants to help them cultivate more resilience to develop an authentic partnership with themselves, create from a place of inner harmony and trust, and maximize their potential for expansion. How to Conduct a Successful Chemistry Session
Our 14th episode of Coaching With Mastery and Elegance With Tijen Genco discusses best practices for conducting successful chemistry sessions. Coaches can feel much pressure around chemistry sessions. We usually have a specific amount of time to get to know the potential client in these sessions and determine if they’re a good fit. This means asking the right questions, understanding the client’s needs and desires, and showing up as our authentic selves. Tijen runs us through how she holds a chemistry session and answers questions such as: How do we understand if a client is a good fit or not? How do we understand the client’s coachability? (Genco Method has three distinctive qualities to look out for to determine this). How do we explain what coaching is and what it isn’t? How do we decide whether or not to offer clients a taste of coaching in a chemistry session? We discuss the importance of knowing ourselves and our needs and leaving those needs outside of the chemistry session. We also talk about what Tijen describes as “stretch assignments” and being able to identify the clients that will stretch us and help us grow into our edges. Genco Method Coaching Beyond the Mind: Freeing Your Nervous System
Have you been craving to deepen your coaching practice and create more transformation for your clients? In this episode of Coaching With Mastery and Elegance With Tijen Genco, we are joined by PCC coach Marianne Gernetzke to discuss Tijen’s upcoming course, Beyond NLP and Cognitive Distortions, the first part of the Genco Method Coaching Beyond the Mind Training – Neurologic Coaching Series. We begin by discussing what it means to coach beyond the mind and how Tijen’s approach engages all parts of the human system. In this course, coaches learn the different languages to access a person's mental, energetic, and somatic levels, allowing for a more holistic outcome for their clients. They learn to increase their sensitivity to become more holistic listeners and ultimately speak the language of the nervous system. Tijen offers an example of how she uses these methods in an actual coaching session, showing us how a client can be transformed through the power of choice. We discuss how the course is personally transformative as well. Through experiential learning, mentor coaching, and daily meditations such as Yoga Nidra, participants can engage more deeply with themselves and experience the healing and transformation that can result from this profound work. “Re-Solutioning” of New Year’s Resolutions
In our 12th episode of Coaching With Mastery & Elegance With Tijen Genco, we welcome the new year by discussing resolutions. Year after year, we’re bombarded by “new year, new you” messaging that promotes resolution-making, goal-setting, and buying programs that promise to fulfill these goals. Tijen offers a different approach based on self-reflection that helps us tap into our intrinsic motivation, which she calls a “re-solutioning.” She invites us to consider our relationship to our goals and question whether they align with our values. As we discuss feedback, the conversation takes an unexpected turn: What makes it difficult to give our clients feedback, and how Tijen gives feedback? Hint: it’s not the “feedback sandwich.” Tijen also offers a beautiful way to cultivate more compassion, so be sure to tune in to our first episode of 2023! How to Invoke Authentic Gratitude
Have you ever tried feeling grateful, and it just felt so forced? In our 11th episode of Coaching With Mastery and Elegance With Tijen Genco, we discuss cultivating authentic gratitude. Many believe gratitude is about using tools such as gratitude journals, affirmations, and positive thinking, but Tijen sees it differently. She sees it as welcoming, invoking, and appreciating what is and the value an experience can offer us. Tijen calls out what she sees as “positivity bullying” and calls for the grace and spaciousness to go into the depths of our emotions, which she sees as an invitation to know yourself more deeply, to develop more strength and resilience, and to experience a more holistic way of being human. We also discuss how to go from losing power or victimization to self-sovereignty without the judgment attached to our cultural norms.
