He practiced the specialty of Periodontics in Oregon and teach part time at the Oregon Health Sciences University. He is very well published and was part of many consensuses over the years. Given the rising prevalence of periodontal disease , particularly as demographics shift towards an older population more susceptible to the condition, 70% of adults over 65 suffer from periodontal disease. It's imperative to note that periodontal diseases is linked to poorer health outcomes. Given these facts and the link between periodontal disease and systemic co-morbidities, unchecked progression can pose significant costs burdens on the healthcare system, emphasizing the need for public health intervention.

Primarily caused by bacterial infections resulting from the buildup of dental plaque, it triggers an immune response and leads to tissue destruction over time. Periodontal disease is impactual on oral health and on the general health. It has an economic impact on this population that is living longer. On the other hand, a lot of investors are entering the healthcare space . The young dentist and physicians are choosing to work for corporation instead of owning their own practices.  Older  physicans and dentists that want to retire are forced to sell  their practices for corporation because of that. It should start by a thorough visual inspection oof all the intra-oral soft tissue including cheeks, palate, throat, floor of the mouth and the tuberosity and retromolar areas.  the oral examination should include a periodontal charting that is thoroughly done, including probing of the pockets, recording recessions, amount of keratinized tissue and inspection for cavities. Radiographs are crucial in completing the inspection especially if we are looking for cavities, bone loss or any bone anomalies.
