A Deep Dive into Bin Stores: Uncovering the Culture of Excess (Ep 92)
Host Kelly Jackson makes a hard pivot from recent personal episodes to a broader look at “bin stores” and what they reveal about overproduction, impulse buying, dopamine shopping, clutter, and environmental impact. After stumbling into one expecting a thrift store, she describes the chaotic glove-on, dig-through-bins experience and explains the business model: truckloads of overstock, returns, shelf pulls, and liquidation pallets from major retailers are dumped into bins and sold on a descending daily price schedule designed as a treasure hunt. Kelly explores the tension between waste and value—how bin stores can be part of a salvage economy while also serving as physical evidence of excess—and shares how she uses them intentionally for workshop props and materials rather than cheap junk. She invites listeners to make conscious choices about when discounted shopping becomes mindful reuse versus clutter in disguise. From the Episode: "I walked into a bin store and realized this entire business model exists because humans buy too much stuff." " What does this say about us that there are entire businesses built around buying things that people didn't want, didn't use, or forgot they ordered? Oh my, it's fascinating to me. And you know what? It ties directly into consumption, consumerism, impulse purchases, dopamine, clutter, identity scarcity, abundance, environmental impact, the illusion that the next thing will fix something." " It looks like animals around a feeding trough. It's just all these people." " It's not secondhand, it's not thrift, it's salvage. The items at bin stores failed to move through their intended retail chain, their intended retail channel. So now, another channel attempts to recover value before it becomes waste." " So one of the questions I realized I was asking myself is can I shop at a bin store and still honestly call myself sustainability-minded?" End of an Era: Chloe's Podcast Apprenticeship Journey (Ep 91)
Kelly Jackson opens by previewing the 10-day Festival of Whatchawant in Baton Rouge (July 7–16) and then welcomes back Chloe, her podcast apprentice, for a candid conversation about “conscious becoming” in the liminal space between college and full adulthood. Chloe shares how graduating early challenged her expectations, why uncertainty can be fertile ground for possibility, and how her career interests evolved from traditional journalism toward a more balanced role in sports. She reveals her decision to pursue a master’s in sport administration in Louisville while keeping podcasting as a future creative outlet. Together they discuss brain development, redefining independence as asking for help, advice for teens and parents navigating college stress, and practical guidance for new college students on reaching out, staying open-minded, and embracing growth. From the Episode: " ...that's a lot of time where a lot of life changes have happened, and I've made a lot of personal decisions on the journey that my life is about to take, and I feel like everything Kelly is talking about with how you have to be conscious with your choices and who you really wanna become, that's definitely where I'm at right now." " Maybe our entire life is a weird in-between 'cause we're constantly becoming." " When nothing is certain, anything is possible Uncertainty isn't always a bad thing, and it can create lots of room for possibility and pure potentiality." " And it's a hard reality to come to terms with, like, what I thought I wanted to do and what I spent so much time focusing on isn't actually where I am headed." " So if there was really anything that I wish I could like nail on the head for lil' old me, I wish I could go back and say, "This choice is only yours and no one else's." The Weird In-Between: Teens and Their Journey to Independence (Ep 90)
Host Kelly Jackson explores why the teenage years feel like a confusing in-between: teens crave autonomy and respect while still needing support, and parents see responsibilities and long-term consequences that teens—whose prefrontal cortex is still developing—often can’t yet track. Drawing from raising two teenage daughters, she reframes teen “resistance” as healthy developmental separation and explains the tension between freedom and accountability, emphasizing that real freedom comes from taking responsibility, not avoiding it. Kelly shares practical guidance for navigating the rescue-versus-support line, including asking kids whether they want you to listen, offer advice, or get involved. She widens the lens to show that adults also live in transition, previewing a next-week conversation with her apprentice Chloe about identity after school, and closes with a call to offer teens more grace. From the Episode: " I think one of the strangest seasons of life is being a teenager. You are old enough to want independence, but you're still young enough to need support, and you want freedom, you want autonomy, you want to make your own decisions, but often you don't yet fully understand the weight of those decisions, and I think that's why raising teenagers can feel so confusing because they're not children anymore, and they're not yet adults either." " Teenagers are often experiencing adulthood emotionally before they're experiencing it practically, especially now, now this day and age, 2026." " Imagine if tomorrow someone handed a 16-year-old a mortgage, health insurance, taxes, payroll, a sick parent, a leaking roof. Most of them would immediately realize, "Oh, shit, adulthood is more than freedom." " " The truth is this: freedom is not the absence of responsibility. Freedom is the result of taking responsibility, and that is a huge distinction." " They should be questioning. They should be pushing. They should be separating. That's literally part of becoming an individual." Festival of Whatchawant: A Celebration of Curiosity, Creativity, and Collaboration (Ep 89)
Host Kelly Jackson announces that the June 22 episode leads into her newest project: a 10-day immersive storefront takeover in Baton Rouge called the Festival of Whatchawant (July 7–16 at 11445 Coursey Blvd, Suite M). What began with a frustrating attempt to rent a pressure washer surface cleaner unexpectedly led her to notice vacant spaces, call a landlord, and quickly secure a better location—turning a short-term pop-up idea into an evolving creative residency. Kelly previews how the festival is “all of those and none of those”: part art gallery and marketplace, part open studio with self-guided “pay to play” activities, and 23 ticketed workshops across four themes—create, move, reflect, receive—plus a free Saturday night vibe with zero-proof beverages. She shares key collaborations, highlights signature sessions like Hot Girl Launch, Words Matter, Mis Sombras Experience, Glow Up Flow, Self-Love Flow, New Moon Circles, and Rest & Receive, and explains the deeper purpose: giving adults permission to play, reconnect, and explore one guiding question—what do you want? From the Episode: " For 10 days (July 7-16, 2026), I'm taking over a storefront in Baton Rouge and creating something called the Festival of Whatchawant." " ...I kind of live by that mantra: what if it gets to be easy?" " The Festival of Whatchawant is not built around one topic, as you may have started to notice. It's built around one question: What do you want? Some experiences help you create. Some are gonna help you move. Some are gonna help you reflect. Some are gonna help you receive. Over ten days, you will have the opportunity to explore that question from every angle. What do you want? That is the umbrella that ties this whole thing together, and it immediately makes the schedule feel like a curated journey instead of a list of random workshops." " It's not because I need sales. It's not because I need visibility. It's because I believe adults need more spaces to play and create and wonder and reconnect with themselves." " One of the drivers behind everything I do is: become a conscious creator of the life that you want to live." The Fear of Not Fitting In: Peer Pressure Doesn't End at Graduation (Ep 88)
In episode 88, host Kelly Jackson shares why the number 88 is meaningful to her, then spotlights a “podcast project” created by her high school freshman daughter and a classmate called True to You, focused on peer pressure, self-love, boundaries, and the line “fitting in should never cost you your safety.” Kelly reads their transcript, including a cautionary story about two girls pressured into meeting “older guys” from Snapchat with tragic consequences, and reflects on how the same dynamics show up in adulthood through drinking culture, hustle culture, beauty standards, social media conformity, and staying silent to avoid exclusion. She explores the biology of belonging, the importance of honoring intuition, and how self-love is practiced through truth, boundaries, and walking away. From the Episode: " Staying silent is a common form of peer pressure as an adult because how many times have you not said what you really thought, or you haven't asked the question, or you didn't disagree out loud, or you didn't speak up because, once again, belonging feels safer than honesty..." " And the problem isn't belonging, and the problem is not wanting to belong. The problem begins when belonging becomes more important than truth." " The body knows. Before the mind can explain something, the body often knows. Tension, hesitation, unease, a feeling in your gut." " Sometimes people don't lose themselves all at once. Sometimes they lose themselves one uncomfortable yes at a time." " One of the deepest forms of self-love is trusting your discomfort enough to leave situations that consistently violate your values." From Chaos Comes Clarity: The Closet as a Mirror to Life (Ep 87)
Host Kelly Jackson shares how a fallen closet rod and an unexpected nine-drawer dresser sparked a full closet renovation and a bigger realization: sometimes your “inventory” changes, and old systems—whether closets, schedules, business models, relationships, or self-concepts—can’t support who you are now. She walks through the messy, overwhelming week of pulling everything out, taking a true inventory, and rebuilding a setup with breathing room, connecting the process to identity evolution, emotional clarity, and the idea that chaos can be a necessary phase before order. Kelly reflects on lessons from minimalism and past downsizing dreams, then describes creating a closet that feels aligned and sanctuary-like, inviting listeners to rethink their own systems. From the Episode: " It's what happens when old identity, old system, old structure can no longer support who you've become." " And then people are like blaming themselves because the system no longer works. The problem isn't that. The system was built for who you were. It's not who you are now, and that's the difference... " " You cannot organize what you are unwilling to look at, and you cannot create order around things that you have not inventoried." " Often clarity comes after confusion, after disruption, after dismantling, after the chaos, after pulling everything apart. Because once everything is visible, then you can sort, and you can categorize, and you can prioritize, release, rebuild, all of the things that we need to do. But first you have to see it. You have to know what all you have." " I'm looking at a physical manifestation of alignment. The outside matches the inside, and that feels good." Emotionally, Most Adults are Student Drivers: Emotional Mastery Without the Sticker (Ep 86)
Kelly Jackson shares a “student driver” traffic moment that sparked a fresh way to view emotional growth: adults often lack the visible “sticker,” yet many were never taught skills like regulation, communication, boundaries, conflict repair, or self-soothing. She explains how shame tends to cluster where people feel least experienced, why “functional” isn’t the same as emotionally integrated, and how adulthood can become a performance of composure while anxiety and dysregulation simmer underneath. Using the student driver metaphor, she explores how context can increase compassion without removing accountability, and why understanding isn’t excusing—especially when healing language gets used to dodge responsibility. Listeners will hear practical reframes for reducing judgment, building emotional skills through real relationships, and replacing self-attack with self-compassion to support lasting change. From the Episode: " Emotionally, a lot of adults are still student drivers, but adulthood removes the visible sticker. So everybody's out here expecting emotional mastery from people who have never actually been taught emotional skills in the first place." " And age alone does not create emotional intelligence. That's something that has to be taught, learned." " And there are many people who have learned how to appear composed long before they actually learned how to feel safe internally." " Compassion and boundaries are not opposites, and emotional maturity includes both empathy and discernment. So sometimes loving someone includes creating distance. And grace does not remove accountability, so a student driver still has to obey traffic laws. Similarly, emotionally learning adults are still responsible for their actions and apologies and repair work and willingness to grow. So being wounded does not exempt somebody from responsibility." " Boundaries are not punishment. Boundaries create clarity and safety and structure, and in many cases, boundaries actually support growth because they interrupt those dysfunctional patterns." Rejection Therapy: Embrace the 'No' and Grow (Ep 85)
Host Kelly Jackson introduces the topic of rejection therapy as intentional exposure to hearing “no” to reduce fear, shame, and nervous-system reactivity, and then takes it deeper: it’s really about uncoupling outcomes from identity, becoming less approval dependent, and staying self-connected while being visible. She explains why rejection hurts (humans are wired for belonging), how social media metrics can amplify rejection sensitivity, and how people-pleasing, over-editing, perfectionism, and fear of embarrassment keep people small. Drawing from her own experience with low engagement, silence, and public creation, Kelly shares how resilience grows through repeated participation despite uncertain outcomes, how rejection can offer refinement or redirection, and invites listeners to try a weekly challenge: make a visible ask, risk a “no,” and practice surviving it without collapsing. From the Episode: " at some point, you either decide rejection means stop, or you realize that rejection is simply part of being visible." " So the idea is the more your nervous system experiences rejection and survives it, the less power rejection has over your behavior." " So the reason that rejection hurts so deeply is because most people unconsciously fuse the outcome of whatever it is with their identity. And if the offer doesn't sell, they think that they're a failure. If someone leaves, they think they're unlovable. If nobody responds, they assume they're invisible. If nobody buys, they think they're not good enough. But an outcome is not an identity." " Your nervous system really does learn, "I can survive this." And once rejection stops feeling life-threatening, your willingness to participate in life expands dramatically, and that's what we want." " So I believe that one of the biggest invisible forces that is shaping people's lives is the fear of being rejected or embarrassed or judged, ignored, misunderstood And That fear of rejection can run people's lives." The Horsefly Paradox: Learning When to Stop Running (Ep 84)
Host Kelly Jackson shares a story from a hot day in Southern Louisiana when she tried repeatedly to outrun horseflies—only to later learn they can fly up to 90 mph—turning the experience into a memorable lesson about how humans keep using ineffective strategies because they feel productive. She connects the “running loop” to modern hustle culture and overstimulation, and to coping patterns like overworking to avoid inadequacy, staying busy to dodge grief or loneliness, overthinking to escape uncertainty, and perfectionism to outrun shame. Kelly explores how effort and movement aren’t the same as resolution, and offers a preview of what real change can look like: awareness, pausing, honesty, boundaries, nervous system regulation, and changing strategy instead of increasing force. She also mentions her notes-app idea archive and invites listeners to explore Self-Love Uni and other resources. From the Episode: " I was trying to solve the problem with a strategy that was fundamentally incapable of working." " Which means I was never even close. And I was exhausting myself trying to escape something that speed was never gonna solve." " ...avoidance creates the illusion of movement, but movement is not the same thing as resolution..." " That's literally the loop, trying the same method repeatedly, harder, faster, more intensely, without realizing that the method itself is incapable of solving the problem." " Some things in life cannot be healed through speed. And you cannot outrun your nervous system, and you cannot outrun grief, and you cannot outrun truth. You cannot outrun yourself." Your Playlist is Programming You (Ep 83)
Host Kelly Jackson explores how repeating the same songs can condition your nervous system, reinforce emotions, memories, and self-concept, and keep you stuck in heartbreak, anger, despair, nostalgia, or chaos loops long after a season has passed. She explains why music bypasses logic, how your body responds automatically, and how familiarity can start to feel like identity—even when it’s painful. Kelly offers practical ways to shift your state by consciously curating new playlists, discovering fresh music, borrowing playlists from inspiring environments, using calming or frequency tracks, and even choosing silence while driving. Tying the topic to Mental Health Awareness Month, she frames music as an emotional environment and invites listeners to ask whether their soundtrack reflects who they are becoming or what they’ve been rehearsing. From the Episode: " If you want to change your life, you may need to stop listening to the same songs on repeat." " And then when we repeatedly listen to the same songs over and over again, especially emotionally charged songs, you are not just consuming sound, you are rehearsing emotional states." " So think back to when you were a teen. Think back to the songs that you played over and over and over again, and how that was part of your identity." " Your brain loves repetition. Repetition creates familiarity, and familiarity starts to feel safe even when it's painful. So if every day your nervous system is being flooded with the same emotional themes, the same stories, the same energetic states, eventually your body starts to memorize them." " At some point, you have to ask yourself whether the soundtrack still reflects who you are or who you have been. Are you expressing your emotions through your music or practicing them? May the Inner Force Be With You (Ep 82)
On May 4th, host Kelly Jackson uses the Star Wars idea of the Force to explore your “inner force”—intuition, nervous system signals, truth, and felt alignment that you sense before you can logically explain it. She explains how people learn to override this guidance by ignoring red flags, staying too long, second-guessing, outsourcing decisions, and defaulting to logic over feeling, and what it looks like to follow it instead: saying no without over-explaining, leaving without full clarity, choosing what feels right, moving slower, and trusting timing. Kelly shares a personal example of overriding exhaustion with energy drinks, recommends Episode 14 (“Unlocking Potential: Meditation and the Quantum Field”) for quieting the mind, and invites listeners to stop chasing signs and act on what already feels true. From the Episode: " Like, what if we stop looking for something outside of us and start trusting the force that already exists within us?" " So silence the mind, and the soul will speak." " So we can condition ourselves to ignore or override the signs and signals and things like that." " Most people are waiting for a sign, and then a signier sign for more clarity, for certainty. But the truth is this, guys, you've been feeling it the whole time, okay? And your inner force does not shout, and it doesn't convince, and it doesn't argue, and it doesn't have to; it just knows. " " And instead of asking what you should do, ask yourself what already feels true. And then have the courage to follow it." Host Kelly Jackson reflects on her hand-lettered message, “You can change the world simply by being a kind human,” and explores what real kindness actually looks like beyond being agreeable, passive, or conflict-avoidant. She breaks down how “kindness” is often confused with people-pleasing—saying yes when you mean no, staying silent to keep the peace, overexplaining, overgiving, or staying in misaligned relationships—and why kindness that costs you your truth is disconnection. Kelly shares practical ways to embody kindness with presence, honesty without harshness, calm boundaries, and responding instead of reacting, while emphasizing that lasting kindness starts with self-kindness and self-trust. She also unpacks “kill ’em with kindness,” reframing it as meeting the moment with integrity. From the Episode: " ...you cannot consistently be a kind person externally if you are harsh and critical and disconnected internally..." " You're not obligated to be the same person that you were five years ago, five months ago, five weeks ago, five days, or even five hours ago. We get new information and sometimes we change, and that's okay." " Kindness is not abandoning yourself to keep the peace." " No is an answer. No is a sentence. Okay? And you can choose not to engage. If something is gonna pull you out of alignment, you do have that choice." " That's not kindness though. That is more like strategy, and real kindness is not something that you use against somebody. You're not trying to win anything. You are not trying to prove a point. You are not trying to come out looking better. You're simply choosing how you want to show up regardless of how somebody else is behaving." Reclaiming Value: Embracing the Art of Rebirth, Inspired by Earth Day (Ep 80)
When the preciously announced planned guest for this date had to reschedule, Kelly decided to record an Earth Day inspired episode in their place. In this episode, she reflects on a Western, disposable culture that rewards replacing and discarding—of objects and also identities—exploring how people often restart or reinvent instead of refining, integrating, and staying long enough to transform. Drawing from her upcycled art practice, she describes reclaiming overlooked, broken, or weathered materials and turning them into meaningful work without erasing history, and connect this to self-worth: discomfort, stagnation, mistakes, and changing shape don’t mean something is waste. She explains how constant “new” can mask repeating loops (new relationship, new goal, same burnout/avoidance) and contrast this with nature’s repurposing. From the Episode: " And what hit me is that we don't just do that with things. We do that with ourselves. We discard identities, we abandoned versions of ourselves. We start over instead of integrating..." " ...and a lot of people are not actually craving a new life. They are craving relief from the parts of their life. The parts of themselves that they haven't learned how to hold yet." " A lot of people stay trapped in cycles of constant restarting because restarting can feel cleaner than reclamation. 'cause reclamation ask more of you. It ask you to stay, it asks you to see clearly and asks you to work with what is, and that is slower, it's less glamorous and it doesn't always photograph well, but you know what? It's real and it's sustainable." "I wanna be like, you are not waste. You are unused." You're Not Stuck—You're Looping: The 'Jessica' Effect (Ep 79)
Host Kelly Jackson unpacks the viral “Jessica” trend—where a tantruming child instantly stops when an adult says “Jessica”—as a real-time example of a nervous system pattern interrupt that breaks an automatic loop and brings awareness back online. She connects it to the invisible loops adults still live in, including overthinking, anxiety spirals, repeating relationship patterns, self-doubt, avoidance, and burnout cycles, and argues that awareness is the interruption that creates a pause and restores choice. She also introduces her new virtual space, the Reset Room, designed to help people interrupt patterns in real time, and teases a guest episode coming next week on 4/20. From the Episode: " I am seeing pattern interrupt. And it made me realize how much of our lives we spend in loops that we don't even realize we're in." "Overthinking can look like replaying a conversation from earlier and thinking of 10 different ways you should have responded, or having a conversation and feeling really good about it at the time. Maybe you met someone new, or maybe it was even somebody you know already, when you had this great talk and it was deep and then you get home later and you're like, did I say too much? Did I overshare? It felt good at the time, and now I wish I could take it back." " We get stuck in avoidance loops, like knowing exactly what needs to be done, but then suddenly feeling the urge to clean or to scroll or to do anything else instead of what needs to be done." " Most people think that they are stuck, but they're not stuck. They are looping and the moment you interrupt the loop, even if it's for a second, you realize you were never trapped, you were just unconscious." The Unplanned Path to Alignment: Why Going With the Flow Works (Ep 78)
Host Kelly Jackson shares a day where every plan unraveled—missed a 4:30 a.m. text, rain canceled skating, a gym visit felt misaligned—yet each pivot led her closer to what felt right. By leaving where her energy contracted and following what expanded her, the sun broke through and the skate park became the setting for spontaneous joy, deep connections with strangers, and a powerful reminder that you don’t attract what you say, you attract what you are. She reflects on holding your center while supporting someone in emotional chaos, practicing “care without collapse,” and trusting the body’s signals before the mind catches up. Kelly also announces the newly opened Reset Room for real-time alignment through your environment From the Episode: " Alignment isn't planned, it's followed." " You can be in a perfectly good environment, which I was, but it's completely wrong for you." " The moment I stop trying to control the day is the moment the day opens wide up... and this happens over and over and over again, and sometimes it just happens in such a big way..." The Beginning of the Apprenticeship — We Decided to Document It (Ep 77)
Kelly Jackson introduces Chloe, a recent LSU journalism graduate and former Reveille sports editor, as a recent addition to the Whatchawant team and shining star in a new 12-week Creative Media Apprenticeship they’ll document from day one. They share how they met at Baton Rouge’s Black History Trail unveiling—after Kelly mentioned her D-D Breaux podcast episode—and reflect on the “butterfly effect” of small moments leading to big opportunities. Chloe describes feeling in a liminal post-grad season, eager to create again through podcasting and content, but nervous about vulnerability and delayed gratification. Together they outline the apprenticeship: reviving Kelly’s archived hand-lettering work through a renewed Pinterest strategy, expanding and deepening storytelling and emotional branding, and preparing Chloe to launch her own podcast, including development, refinement, equipment, RSS, and episode planning. The series will deliver two behind-the-scenes episodes weekly, tracking progress from idea to ready-to-launch. From the Episode: " Don't be discouraged sometimes if you say something that felt like the right thing to say, and then it doesn't land, because maybe that wasn't your audience. Maybe you were speaking to the field for someone else to pick up whatever it was you were saying." " ...something that I lead with a lot is... You don't know what anybody has going on in their life, like, whatsoever, at any moment in time." " And he came in there and was like, 'Ordinary people have extraordinary stories.' And immediately, that's all it took. I changed my major the next day to journalism, and I haven't regretted it since." " You just named the conditions of a growth edge. Cause you feel the fear, you lean into it, you know that the challenge is going to be there. You know that there's this element of practicing the discipline of delayed gratification. You know all that stuff, and you're still excited anyway." What Happens Underground Before the Bloom: Preparing for a Life Season of Emergence (Ep 76)
Host Kelly Jackson reflects on the shift that followed release six weeks ago, describing how the pace, energy, and focus in her home changed—opening space for ideas, creativity, and momentum to return. Using spring as a metaphor, she explores how real growth begins underground: roots forming in winter, seeds germinating in darkness, and clarity spreading from one honest decision into new priorities and aligned action. She connects this to yard work after the last freeze—cutting back dead growth to protect roots and make room for new life—and to her own season of turning inward through home practice and personal reorganization. Kelly offers signs you may be “entering your spring,” encourages listeners not to force the bloom, and teases a totally new surprise guest episode next week. From the Episode: " Something interesting has unfolded in my life. The pace of my days shifted and the energy of my house shifted and my attention shifted." " Growth is gonna show itself when the roots have done their work. And that idea brings me a lot of peace." " Roots matter just as much as blooms and underground work supports everything that eventually rises above the surface." " You don't reap the same day that you sow." The Space That Opens Up After Letting Go: When the Horse Begins to Run — Part 3 of a 3 Part Series (Ep 75)
Host Kelly Jackson closes her three-part journey about Pongo by exploring what happens after you let go: the strange quiet, the disorienting spaciousness, and the temptation to mistake emptiness for regret. Five weeks after rehoming Pongo, she shares how daily routines and the home’s energy shifted. Kelly reflects on the mental bandwidth caregiving required, the relief of turning off the constant background pressure of finding Pongo’s forever home, and the surge of creativity and momentum that followed, including rapid home renovations and new business clarity. She describes “reclamation, revival, and renaissance,” a sweet symbolic moment that felt like a wink from Pongo, and invites listeners to consider what might expand in their own lives if they trusted their clarity. From the Episode: " Because letting go is not the end of the story. In many ways it's the beginning of a completely different one." "What I did notice is that things felt calmer, things felt more spacious, things felt more available. Possibilities started being put back on the table." " Three and a half years. That was a long loop. That was a loop that was open for a long time that I was finally closing, and I noticed every single day just how much I was not able to be me at my full potential while still inside of this chapter." If You Love Something, Let It Go: Part 2 of a 3-Part Series (Ep 74)
A continuation from last week's episode about stewardship, Kelly Jackson explores the uneasy, sacred space between realizing a truth and acting on it, where nothing changes externally but everything shifts internally. Using her experience fostering Pongo, she describes three and a half weeks of calm, repeating clarity—feeling tension when imagining him staying and relief when imagining his forever home—while holding grief and peace at once. She reframes “if you love something, let it go” as honoring natural completion rather than abandonment, guided by the mantra “the same or better,” and connects release to the snake’s shedding and the horse’s momentum: movement follows letting go. Kelly shows how love and release can coexist across dogs, businesses, friendships, and roles, and shares how releasing Pongo revealed unseen compromises and sparked immediate renewal at home, deepening self-trust. From the Episode: " And eventually clarity asks a question that most of us don't wanna answer, what needs to be released?" " ...still living inside of something that your nervous system has already moved beyond." " And I noticed that when I imagined one path, I felt tension. And when I imagined another, I felt calm. And this, there was this... grief." "... trusting that love doesn't disappear when form changes. Because sometimes, letting go is the most loving act available." Living Fully in Temporary Chapters: What Pongo (A Foster Dog) Taught Me About Stewardship — 1 of 3 — (Ep 73)
Kelly Jackson shares an unplanned reflection sparked by Pongo, a foster dog that was a part of her life for over 3.5 years. Kelly explores stewardship as a form of devotion—caring fully without claiming ownership—and how temporary chapters can be deeply meaningful. She also reveals how her resistance to neutering delayed adoption until she made peace with it, and what it felt like to finally have a goodbye date. She closes with insights on loving wholeheartedly in seasons you know will end, and teases next week’s conversation about what clarity changes after release. From the Episode: " ...sometimes when something enters your life like that, the role isn't ownership, it's guardianship, and it's being the person who shows up during a chapter. And what I find beautiful about that is that even when you know something may be temporary, you can still choose to care and you can still choose to feed and walk and protect and comfort and notice and include, and you still love." " All of that taught me something unexpected too, that you don't need certainty to love fully. You can live wholeheartedly inside of a chapter, even though you know it's not a forever chapter. You can still be fully present inside of it and still absolutely love it for the season that you're in it..." "...stewardship is a different kind of love 'cause stewardship says, alright, I'm going to care for this while it's mine to care for, and I will be responsible while I am responsible, and I will be present while I am present, and I will not measure the value of this relationship by how long it lasts. That's a radical idea because it means that love is defined by the quality of care, not the duration. And it means that you can be a meaningful chapter in something's life or someone's life without being the whole story." "... maybe the measure of life is not in how many things we keep. It's in how many things we care for well while they're in our hands." Tales of The Fighting Tiger: D-D Breaux's Legacy at LSU (Ep 72)
Host Kelly Jackson sits down with legendary LSU women’s gymnastics coach D-D Breaux, whose 43-year tenure is chronicled in the SEC Network documentary The Fighting Tiger. Breaux retraces the pivotal moments that launched her career—from a phone call that brought her to LSU in 1977 with no facility, budget, or equipment, to the years of battling for basic resources, medical care, and respect for women’s sports. She opens up about a career-altering knee injury that ended her Olympic path, the grit it took to coach while raising two daughters during competition season, and the behind-the-scenes fights that shaped LSU athletics—like bringing Dr. Brent Bankston into the LSU system and advocating for the standalone gymnastics training center that finally became reality after decades of persistence. Along the way, Breaux shares the coaching philosophy that defined her teams—“everything counts,” repetition, pride, community presence, and building a culture where individual performances serve the team score—while reflecting on leadership, administration turnover, mentors who saved the program, and what it meant to retire during COVID and return as an LSU ambassador. The conversation also highlights LSU’s broader sports culture, the importance of selling tickets and building a fan base, the new realities of NIL, and the emotional payoff of seeing a lifelong vision fulfilled—inviting listeners into the untold story behind one of the most influential builders in LSU athletics. From the Episode: " Success is wrapped in boldness." " ...the most powerful weapon on earth is a human soul on fire. And that fire is our passion." " ...I bet there's not a whole lot of schools in this country where you can have a gymnastics meet as a sellout on Friday, a baseball game as a sellout on Saturday, and a softball game that could be close to a sellout and also have a track meet going on where you can't put anybody else in the stands. That is what LSU is now." " ...if they mentioned something that I thought was a decent idea or a wing nut idea, I did it. Because even if it's a bad idea, it might work." Stop Auditioning for Your Life: Step Into Your True Self (Ep 71)
In this Lunar New Year episode airing January 16, Kelly Jackson challenges listeners to ask a simple, confronting question: what are you really waiting for before you fully step into your life—time, or permission? She unpacks “auditioning” as the exhausting habit of trying to qualify for your own life, then names what it looks like in real time: overexplaining to avoid being questioned, cushioning your dreams so you won’t look like you care, waiting to feel ready, shrinking your truth to fit others’ comfort, performing humility, getting stuck in “prep mode,” needing proof before you move, and staying overly available to earn belonging. Kelly explains why this pattern makes sense as a nervous system strategy rooted in past conditioning, and uses Lunar New Year as a cycle shift—“new year, new standard”—to end the constant negotiation of worth. She invites listeners to choose one non-negotiable standard to live for 30 days and take one bold action this week—post the draft, send the email, launch imperfectly, set a boundary without a long explanation, ask directly, submit your work, or say no—to prove the audition is over. The goal isn’t to become louder or fearless, but to make one clean decision, stay with the discomfort of growth, and practice visibility until your body learns it’s safe to live as you. From the Episode: " Auditioning is living like you are trying to qualify for your own life." " ...you never feel fully safe when you are waiting for safety to be handed to you." " Overexplaining is a form of bracing and you're trying to build this wall of logic so nobody can hurt you with their opinion." " ...there is a difference between preparation and hiding; preparation moves you forward and hiding keeps you in the same place with like better notes." In episode 70, host Kelly Jackson dives deep into redefining love beyond the romantic clichés of February. This episode, titled 'Love is a Standard', explores how love is a daily practice that starts with the relationship you have with yourself. Kelly emphasizes the importance of self-love, setting standards, and the ways in which true love stabilizes rather than overwhelms. She shares personal insights on how consistent self-love can transform every aspect of your life and provides a clear guide on what real love looks like. Tune in to discover how to stop settling for less and start embodying love as a lifestyle that supports you and keeps you in alignment with your highest self. From the Episode: " Love is how you live. Love is how you speak to yourself. Love is how you treat your time. Love is what you tolerate and love is what you stop negotiating with." " ...the most important relationship that you will ever have in your entire life is the relationship that you have with yourself." " I've learned that love has to be something that you can live inside of. Love has to hold you. Not drain you." " This episode is for the ones who are done settling and who are done shrinking and done convincing and done waiting for crumbs and calling it a meal. *BONUS TRACK* Shapeshifter Cindy X Kelly Mix
This is one of those things I didn't even realize was weighing on me until I felt the pull to do it. This track was created by Cindy Wonderful using edited segments from an interview with me recorded at Wonderground in Baton Rouge, LA (2025) — and it's such a vibe that I wanted the full song to live right here so I can pull it up anytime and play it on repeat. Wonderground is also a place I'm proud to support publicly. It's a safe, affirming place that centers the arts, supports the LGBTQIA+ community (including trans folks), and celebrates creative expression. When you walk in, you can feel it — the events, the conversations, the resources, the visibility. It's real. You can feel it's a space built on respect, safety, and community care. Sometimes support looks like showing up, amplifying, and putting love behind the spaces that hold people. Here's a little story about the song: One day she sent me the file and said she made a mix... but I couldn't open it at the time. Then a couple months later, I was back at Wonderground with Cindy planning Anger Circle: The Breakthrough Room, and the song got brought up. She played it over the speakers right there in the space — and I got to hear it for the first time right where the inspiration first struck. Full circle moment. Loved it. One of the most unexpected, beautiful surprises. Cindy also created a montage video from Anger Circle inside Wonderground using a clip from this track — you can watch it here I love this song so much that I wanted a place for the full version to live... so I'm calling it a bonus track. Do podcasts even have those? Don't know. Don't care. I'm doing it:) Enjoy. Embodiment Is Where the Work Becomes Visible (Ep 68)
In this episode, Kelly explores the concept of embodiment—where true transformation happens as awareness and healing manifest in real-life actions. Understand why embodiment is more challenging than mere awareness, as it demands honesty, consistency, and courage to live out the insights you've gained. Kelly shares personal stories of navigating this journey, offering a blend of lived practice, behavioral integrity, and the importance of honesty over perfection. If you're ready to move beyond understanding to embodying your truth, this episode is a must-listen. From the Episode: " Embodiment is where the work becomes visible, not just to other people, but to ourselves as well, and it's often quieter and slower and more confronting than we expect." "Awareness happens internally and embodiment shows up externally." " ... when you're no longer numbing and distracting and over functioning and people pleasing or intellectualizing, all the things that we do, there's nowhere to hide, and that can feel destabilizing..." " Because most people don't quit because it's not working. They quit because it is working. Isn't that funny? And that's because embodiment threatens identity. So it removes the excuses." The Difference Between Rest and Avoidance (Ep 67)
In this special Martin Luther King Jr. Day episode, host Kelly Jackson dives deep into Dr. King's teachings on love and its powerful role in creating sustainable change. Kelly distinguishes between burnout and disappearance culture, exploring the nuanced differences between true rest and mere avoidance. Through personal anecdotes and thought-provoking insights, she emphasizes the importance of regulation, sustained presence, and supportive relationships in maintaining self-love and effective leadership. Tune in to discover how to restore your capacity, stay engaged, and harness the energy to keep moving forward without self-abandonment. From the Episode: " Sometimes what we are calling rest is actually the nervous system pulling away because it doesn't feel supported enough to stay, and that's not a personal flaw. That's physiology." "Burnout culture is gonna tell us, push harder, override your limits, prove your worth through output... But when people finally collapse under that pressure—and they do—the pendulum often swings all the way to the other side." " ...rest that only removes demand doesn't automatically restore capacity." " Avoidance isn't laziness and it's not a lack of desire. It is essentially your nervous system that is saying. I don't feel safe enough to sit with this yet. I don't feel safe enough to stay with this yet." Why Awareness Isn’t Enough (And What Actually Creates Change) (Ep 66)
In this episode, host Kelly Jackson addresses the frustration of those who, despite being highly self-aware and emotionally intelligent, still struggle with recurring patterns of behavior. Kelly explains that awareness alone isn't sufficient to create real change, emphasizing the need for integration and the importance of support in transforming awareness into lived experiences. Tune in to discover how practicing new responses, building nervous system safety, and integrating insights through support can help you truly change and grow. Don't miss out on this eye-opening discussion. From the Episode: " There is a particular frustration that I hear from people who have done a lot of inner work and they say things like, I'm so aware of my patterns. I know exactly why I do this. I can see it happening in real time, and yet the pattern still repeats." " ...awareness is a doorway. It's not the room. And knowing why you react the way you do doesn't automatically give your nervous system a new response." " Support is not a crutch, it's a bridge. There is this cultural myth that if you really understood yourself well, you wouldn't need support." " You're not broken. You're not failing, and you're not missing something. Awareness opened the door. You're standing at the threshold. What comes next is integration, and that requires support, not self pressure." You Don’t Need a New Year — You Need a Nervous System That Can Hold Your Vision (Ep 65)
In this episode, Kelly Jackson delves into why the motivation of New Year resolutions often fades by mid-January or early February. She reveals that the issue isn't a lack of discipline, but rather how our nervous systems perceive growth as dangerous, leading to self-protection rather than self-sabotage. Kelly offers insights into why willpower alone is not enough and emphasizes the importance of self-love and support systems for sustainable change. Tune in to learn how to build a safer internal environment, why vision needs capacity for long-term success, and explore the transformative power of Self-Love Uni, a live group coaching container designed to help you build lasting change. From the Episode: " ...willpower is a short term strategy. It can initiate change, absolutely, but it cannot sustain it if the body doesn't feel safe." "We regulate in relationship. That's not a weakness. That is biology. When you are inside a consistent, safe container, your nervous system settles. Your patterns become visible without shame, and growth feels supported instead of forced." " That's not self-sabotage, it's self protection." " ...the issue isn't intelligence or desire. It is that the nervous system is overwhelmed. When your system perceives stress, it greatly narrows your capacity and your body is going to prioritize... survival." " Your body will always tell you the truth before your mind does." "New Year's resolutions ask for behavioral change without creating internal capacity." The Void Is Not Empty, It’s Activated: How to Let Go Without Losing Yourself (Ep 63)
In this insightful episode, host Kelly Jackson delves into the concept of 'the void'—an essential space between identities where transformation occurs. As the year comes to a close, Kelly guides listeners through navigating this challenging yet pivotal period without succumbing to old coping mechanisms. The conversation covers the importance of surrender, emotional completion, and letting go of attachments to outcomes. With personal anecdotes and practical advice, Kelly emphasizes the significance of presence over performance and offers tools for integrating new, authentic identities. Tune in to discover how to harness the void as a portal for growth and embrace a life of true alignment and peace. From the Episode: " The field responds to what you are not what you think you want." " This isn't abandonment. This is subtraction into sovereignty." " It's internal leadership. It's not emotional bypassing. And letting go is not giving up. It's ceasing this tug of war that you were never meant to win." " Surrender is safety. The nervous system registers surrender as safety, and so you soothe burnout by reducing the stakes war that's happening inside of your body..." "Desire itself is not the issue. Attachment is. So when you grip outcomes as these like identity badges, well guess what? You're gonna suffer inside of a story that you're not meant to live anymore." "When when you deny emotions, the nervous system keeps them stored like code running in the background and that is draining your bandwidth." The Holidays Are a Cognitive Load Test — Pass Without Performing (Ep 62)
This episode discusses the intense demands placed on our cognitive and emotional systems during the holiday season, describing these as 'cognitive load tests.' It explores how holiday stress leads to decision fatigue and burnout, and offers practical steps to manage these pressures. The focus is on understanding cognitive load, the importance of small, repeatable alignment practices, and the role of meditation, breathwork, and gratitude in breaking the cycle of stress hormones. The ultimate goal is to support listeners in maintaining their identity and well-being during high-stress periods, emphasizing self-care and sustainable practices. From the Episode: " The holidays turn your life into a multi-monitor operating system. If you are tired or overwhelmed, or snappy, or avoidant, or overdoing, numbing, collapsing. Guys, it's not breakdown. It's a system notification. Too many emotional apps are running at once." " Your body trusts exhale more than explanation." "Ease feels weird until your body learns to trust it. And this explains why people wear stress like a badge and peace like an experiment." " ...you can get addicted to a life you don't even like. Resets Aren’t Relational Ruptures — They’re a Return to Yourself (Ep 61)
In this episode, we explore the transformative power of resetting in various aspects of life—identity, relationships, emotions, and especially the body. Emphasizing that resetting is not a sign of regression, but rather a return to clarity and regulation in overwhelming times, particularly during the busy holiday season. Through personal anecdotes and practical advice, we learn that proper sleep, deep breathing, emotional labeling, and managing our digital spaces can significantly lower stress levels and promote self-love. This isn't just about making progress; it's about reclaiming our power and meeting our true selves without judgment. From the Episode: " Resetting is not regression. Resetting is regulation. Regulation is the name of the game." " Cortisol is the body's chemical alarm system. It's lifesaving in short bursts. It's devastating if lived in long loops. " " Sleep debt isn't weakness. It's information." "... resetting is how we recalibrate the body so that we can respond with connection instead of collapse." " ... and I was just driving and started crying, and I don't even exactly remember why... I was like, what am I even crying over?" " People outgrow identities that used to fit. And when you reset, your brain tries to make it mean something dramatic. Like, well, did we even change? Yeah, you did." " ...there are some of us who are still running on Windows 98 is what I'm saying; it's time to upgrade your operating system." " You can either be your own worst enemy or you can be your own best cheerleader..." " You scroll to cope... doom scrolling. You get addicted to your own stress chemicals, guys. Yes, you can absolutely become addicted to a life you don't even like." " ... digital discernment really beats passive consumption every single time. ...your feed is inventory too. So, if you scroll through aggressive, divisive, stressful, shame-based content all day, your nervous system doesn't recognize the difference between online threats and real ones." Bullying, Identity & Becoming: What They Don’t Tell You About Healing From It (Ep 60)
In this episode, the focus is on addressing the far-reaching effects of bullying beyond childhood and into adulthood. The discussion centers on the identity wounds bullying creates, how it reprograms the nervous system, and shapes subconscious beliefs. Practical tools like naming the identity wound, setting firm boundaries, and using nervous system repair techniques are explored, along with personal anecdotes of overcoming bullying. Listeners are encouraged to reclaim their power, heal past wounds, and learn how to handle contemporary bullies effectively while maintaining their dignity and peace. From the Episode: " Because bullying does not end when school does. It evolves and so do we." " Bullying activates chronic fight or flight in the developing nervous system that leads to hyper vigilance, people pleasing, shut down, collapsing boundaries." " Sometimes your first bully is your parent. I want you to let that land. Some of you that might not resonate, and some of you might go, "Hmm, that's the truth." And it's unfortunate, but it's factual that sometimes our first bullies are our parents or caretakers." "...she started instantly crying, saying we killed a family. And in that moment I was like, oh my gosh—yes, we did." " The distortion here is that you assume the bullying means that you're defective, you're flawed. You're fundamentally less than." " ...if I shine, I'll be attacked. And this is a big one. And it comes from bullies, often targeting people who stand out or who have something special. And the distortion becomes that you associate visibility with danger." " Bullying plants false identities in children that adults mistake is their personality. It's not who they truly are. It's who they became to survive." " Shame is the lowest vibrational frequency there is. This is why I'm always coming back to shame and one of my favorite mantras: Shame off me. Shame off me." " Understand that bullies feed on your reactivity. Bullies do not thrive on your existence. They thrive on your response. They want your tears, your fear, your defensiveness, your over-explaining, your cracked voice, your emotional spiral. Not because they win, but because it confirms the role that they need to be powerful." " Another big one is don't argue with people who are committed to misunderstanding you." Gratitude as a Portal, Not a Practice (Ep 59)
This episode explores why old emotional patterns resurface during periods of personal growth, emphasizing that these moments are not regressions but signs of evolving to a deeper level. Using the metaphor of a spiral to illustrate how growth revisits familiar issues with increased awareness and maturity, it teaches listeners to see these patterns as opportunities for deeper integration and expanded capacity, rather than failures. Practical steps are provided to support the nervous system, ensure emotional regulation, and guide self-reflection, reinforcing that progress is a layered journey where each cycle offers new insights and strengths. From the Episode: " People talk about gratitude like it's a list you make or a habit you check off. What if gratitude isn't a practice at all, though? What if it's a portal, a doorway? Your whole body steps through a frequency that reorganizes your nervous system, your choices, your perception, and literally shifts your reality." " It means that gratitude is a biochemical state. It's not a cute affirmation. It's not a cute journaling practice or an idea to add to your Pinterest board." " Gratitude expands perception. RAS... filters reality. And when you feel gratitude, the RAS looks for more things that match that frequency altering what you notice and what becomes possible." "... humans take in over 11 million bits of information per second through your senses, but your conscious mind can only process about 40 of those bits per second.." " The more you're grateful, the more you have to be grateful for. It's not a cliche, guys, it's neuroscience gratitude, literally reprograms your perceptual filters." " It's not that the world changed, it's that the version of the world you're able to access changed." " Gratitude raises your frequency. Your frequency instructs the RAS. Your RAS changes what you notice. What you notice becomes what you choose. What you choose becomes your life." " There is a metaphysical chemistry of gratitude, and that's why the quantum field responds to it. Because again, gratitude isn't just an emotion. It's chemistry, it's coherence, it's communication with the quantum field; it's the highest vibrational frequency there is." " When your heart is in gratitude, you become a vibrational match for the realities that you're calling in. Not because you forced them, but because you became coherent enough to receive them." " Gratitude isn't positive thinking it's coherence." Practical steps are provided to support the nervous system, ensure emotional regulation, and guide self-reflection, reinforcing that progress is a layered journey where each cycle offers new insights and strengths. From the Episode: " You are hitting a dip deeper layer of the same pattern, which means that you're actually ready for the next level that you've been asking for." " Healing is not linear. Growth happens in a spiral. We come back to familiar triggers, wounds, fears. Not because we're failing, but because we're ready to meet them with more awareness and more capacity and more maturity and more truth." " It's a reorganization of identity. You are literally becoming someone who can hold more—your capacity has expanded. Not just more success—more intimacy, more truth, more alignment, more life." "...sometimes that's what it feels like you're going around in circles. Okay? Shift your perspective. You look at it from the side instead of the bird's eye view. You're going up, you're going up, you're moving, you're going up." " If you panic, you sink deeper. If you shame yourself, you reinforce the pattern. Please hear that." " Regulation is self-love in action...and then return to choice because this is ultimately where your power lives. In this moment, I get to decide who I am. In this moment, I might not be able to control the things that are happening, but I can control the way I choose to respond, the way I choose to show up." " Your next level does not arrive when you're fully ready. I can tell you that it arrives when you decide to allow it." " I want you to think of it like renovating a house that you're still living in. You don't bulldoze the whole thing and start from scratch. You're updating one room at a time." " The real sign of success is a regulated nervous system." " And guys, if you're listening, there are some of you out there who want transformation, but fear being seen. You still have those visibility wounds to work through and hey, been there, done that." Year Two Starts Now — The Embodiment Era (Ep 57)
In this special one-year anniversary episode, the 'Dreamed it, then Real Life did' podcast reflects on its transformative journey and how it has reached and supported listeners across the globe. This episode is not just a look back but a gateway into a deeper journey of self-love and embodiment. Announcements for the second year include more guest appearances, a new video series called 'Unmasked,' and weekly and bi-monthly emails focusing on reflection, action, and personal growth. The podcast will also feature a revitalized blog to help listeners easily find resources and further support their journey. This next chapter promises richer conversations, real-world applications, and a commitment to personal growth and community. Tune in to be a part of this evolving journey and embrace your own transformation. From the Episode: " It felt like stepping forward without a map, only a knowing, and somehow that was enough." " This year required you to dig deep and to really, really, really, really ask yourself. The big questions and be willing to sit with yourself as the answers reveal themselves." " Yes, you have arrived. You are here, right here, right now. You are the embodiment of all of this work. You've been doing all of this intention. Right now. Feel that, feel that moment, feel that gratitude for every single thing that you have overcome and that you have endured and that you have come up against, that has not broken you, it has not stopped you." " We're in a moment when playing small is no longer an option. The old ways of shrinking and pleasing and hiding, and numbing and distracting and pretending are exhausting, and they're starting to feel impossible to maintain." " Your subconscious mind will never outperform your self image—who you believe yourself to be—and your subconscious mind runs the show. 95% of everything you do say and think's coming from the subconscious mind." "And threshold moments are where identity shifts happen." "This is the year that you stop admiring the idea of your highest self. And you actually embody it— fully, totally, completely embody it." " Year two is where we stop consuming inspiration and start living it. You know, this is not self-love as a concept. It's self-love as a daily identity... We love ourselves. We show ourselves how we love ourselves by the way we show up for ourselves." " We are not here to repeat old cycles. We are not here to stay small to dim. Quiet or careful. We are not here to protect old identities that were built on survival." " This is the year where you stop shrinking to fit old versions of yourself, and you stop negotiating your worth, and you stop waiting for permission to be who you were meant to be— who your soul came here to be." Seeing Life Clearly: The Metaphysical Insight (Ep 56)
Kelly Jackson delves into the concept of metaphysics and how it has transformed her life and can transform yours. She explores the idea that every life experience, physical symptom, and environmental factor carries a deeper, metaphysical message. Through personal anecdotes and client stories, Kelly illustrates how adopting a metaphysical perspective can turn pain into a teacher, patterns into maps, and everyday moments into divine guidance. She also covers the importance of self-awareness, holistic health practices, and the powerful link between our inner state and our outer environment. Listeners are guided through practical steps to begin interpreting these metaphysical signs for a richer, more aligned life, encouraging a shift from living on autopilot to living with intention and purpose. From the Episode: " Imagine if every ache, every random encounter, every season of life wasn't random at all. It was a message. What if the universe was constantly speaking to you through your body, your surroundings, your experiences?" "When you learn to view life through a metaphysical lens, nothing feels wasted. Pain becomes a teacher and patterns become maps, and everyday moments become divine guidance." " Sometimes we just need a reminder to, ah, relax. You don't have to hold onto all of that." " ...our body has a yin and a yang side. So the right side of your body is the masculine energy, the yang energy, and the left side is the feminine and the yen energy. And so depending on the side of your body that something is happening on, that can tell you something " " I once was blind and now I see hello. This is like the story of my life. I was so blind to the possibility of the magic of us, of humans, of this world, of this universe, of everything." "I used to be highly medicated and now I'm highly meditated. That was a shift and a shift that made a really big difference." " A healthy liver is linked to a sense of purpose and clear planning and ambition. It's the flow of life. So the metaphysical message is to adapt and go with the flow like a flexible plant would bend with the wind." "Instead of rushing past discomfort, ask, what is this really about?" " Patterns are your soul's curriculum, and again, if something keeps repeating, it's not random and sometimes, it just helps to have someone else hold up that mirror for us so we can see." " You have to ask the right question. You know, it's moving from 'why me?' to, 'what is this teaching me?' From 'why is this happening to me?' to 'this is happening for me'..." Unmasking Shadows: Halloween's Hidden Lessons (Ep 55)
Kelly Jackson delves into the deeper meanings of Halloween, exploring how the shadows, costumes, and masks we associate with this holiday can reveal hidden aspects of ourselves. Through personal anecdotes and insights on self-growth, Kelly shares her journey of using Botox as a metaphorical mask and how she learned to remove it to embrace her true self. The episode tackles the idea that facing our fears and shadows can lead to personal empowerment and growth. With practical advice on how to unmask yourself and embrace your shadows with compassion, Kelly invites listeners to transform their pain into possibilities and live more authentically. Tune in for an enlightening discussion that aims to help you reclaim your power and step into your true self. From the Episode: "What if the monsters that we run from are actually teachers in disguise?" "... avoiding shadows keeps you stuck and facing them sets you free." " Today I'm going to show you how what you're most afraid to face could be the exact thing that makes you magnetic, whole and powerful." " And the one that you give your energy and attention to is the one that grows and multiplies." " When you learn to meet your shadows with love instead of fear, you stop living on autopilot and you start living in alignment." " Your shadows, those dark parts of yourself, those shadow aspects of yourself are asking you to become consciously aware that they are a part of you without denying them, without repressing them, without disowning them..." " Spoiler alert, it didn't ruin me and it wasn't the worst thing that happened to me either..." " I'm hoping with sharing these stories and providing some insight, that you will have the courage to get that flashlight and shine the light of your consciousness on some of your shadows as well." " That is exactly what shadow work is. Our shadows feel terrifying because we're meeting them in the dark. But when you shine the light of awareness, you see that they're not here to destroy you. They're just parts of you that are playing roles." " We have all seen people who are haunted by their past because they won't face it. That doesn't have to be your story though." I just realized my nervous system is still holding this in my body." " ... we did really big jobs. We did. When I say really big jobs, like... I didn't even know what I didn't know. I was like, yeah, we can do it... and I'll figure out how to do it later. I'll learn what I need to learn and do what I need to do." " ...you have to cut things back so that they can grow. You have to prune to promote new growth." " We have to prune back the dead, dying, diseased in our life too; maybe it's a habit, maybe it's a friendship, maybe it's a relationship..." "By pruning your plants thoughtfully, you can help your plants thrive and enjoy healthy, vigorous growth. And by pruning your lifestyle thoughtfully, you can help yourself thrive and enjoy healthy and vigorous growth." " It's a dark night of the soul. It's an ego death, it's a transition, it's an awakening. It's a rebirth." " Some of us grow fast and some of us need more time underground before anyone even sees us bloom. Trailblazing Wellness: Shelly Mullenix and Holistic Health at LSU (Ep 53)
In this episode of the podcast, host Kelly Jackson sits down with Shelly Mullenix, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health and Wellness at LSU. Shelly brings her decades-long experience in sports medicine and athletic training to discuss her pioneering work in integrating mental health and wellness programs within collegiate sports. As the first female athletic trainer in the SEC and a recent inductee to the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame, Shelly shares invaluable insights into the holistic approach to athlete development. From navigating high-pressure transitions to supporting student-athletes through mental health challenges, Shelly’s unique perspective is both inspiring and educational. Tune in to learn more about the dynamic initiatives at LSU and how they set a new standard in athletic care. From the Episode: "...they just don't show up here at 18 years old and we assume that they're an elite, five star athlete, and we treat 'em as such. They're children, and they're children with parents, and they're children with parents who just lost their parents. So they've got a lot of baggage that they bring with them." " ...every day that you can keep someone alive is a day that they can learn more about themselves." " I wanna know when you're smoking weed, what does it make you feel? You know, that's not a question you typically ask someone who's 18 or 19 'cause they're not used to talking about that." "Everyone's just not brave enough to talk about it." " ... we all can say something and we may not say the right thing, and it doesn't matter; because in the absence of what you say, they're isolated." " They don't care if you never step on the field. They'd love to see that, but they don't care if you do or not. They're here to really basically help mold you, help you grow, help you kind of not feel so alone when you are in fact alone." " It's amazing when you ask these people, what do you love about yourself? The pause. They can't even think, they can't even come up with the words. 'Cause they don't know themselves in any other way other than being an athlete." " If you were to ask an old player what they miss most, they miss the locker room, they miss the training room, they miss those things, 'cause that's where life happens." " If you haven't seen the mental health professional, you've not reached your capacity. You have not reached your peak." " Mental health is not a taboo topic here. No. And, for anyone who is still living in that old, outdated paradigm that this is hush hush and that you don't talk about this, guys, wake up because this is what we're talking about now." " I was first diagnosed with clinical depression at the age of 11. I was in. Middle school, they said I had a chemical imbalance, that my body didn't produce enough serotonin. This is the story that I was told. I started being medicated for depression at the age of 11, and then soon following that it was ADHD medication, anxiety medication. There were also physical things that were happening at the same time in my life at age of 11." " ...mental health needs to be talked about even more until people don't put it in the same category as having diarrhea." " If you want something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done." " The whole thing about that though is just because...it's your belief system and you believe it to be true, doesn't mean it's actually true." " ... because the quality of your life depends on the quality of the questions you ask yourself." " Guys, it's nothing to be ashamed of, and it's something that needs to be prioritized. " " It's a dark night of the soul. It's an ego death, it's a transition, it's an awakening. It's a rebirth." " But I am here to tell you, I haven't taken any pharmaceutical medicine in over eight years and I'm thriving and my health is better than ever. And so it's possible. It's possible. And if I can do it, you can do it..." "...there's a saying that says that the branches of a tree can't reach heaven if the roots don't reach hell. And maybe one of the reasons that I feel so fricking grateful for this life that I feel so blessed to be living and experiencing today, it is beyond my wildest imagination... and I don't think that I could experience this level of bliss and peace and joy had I not also experienced such low, low, low, low, low lows." From the Episode: " Trees don't cling to their leaves out of fear. They let them go and maybe that's the lesson that we're here for. How to release with grace, how to find beauty in endings, and how to trust what's coming next." "Releasing feels poetic in theory and terrifying in practice. Why? Because we equate release with loss. Humans clinging to the familiar, even if it hurts. Familiar chaos often feels safer than the unknown. Isn't that wild?" " Endings are not failures. They're transitions. Nature doesn't fail when a leaf falls. The void that we fear is actually fertile ground." " Burnout is often a sign of holding on too tightly. When you are physically and mentally drained, it's your body saying, 'uh, this attachment, it's gonna cost you. This attachment is gonna cost you. This attachment is costing you.' " " What weight can you let go to lighten your energetic load? Emotional and energetic release is liberation; when energy moves, life moves." " Release is not just about loss. It's about creating space for everything beautiful that's waiting to arrive. It's about allowing." " Autumn isn't a story of loss. The Hero: Becoming the Champion of Your Own Story (Ep 49)
In this episode, Kelly Jackson dives deep into the concept of the Hero's Journey, emphasizing that each of us is on our own personal journey of transformation. Drawing parallels to classic storytelling, she explores the stages of the Hero's Journey—from answering the call to adventure and facing internal dragons to seeking allies and mentors. Kelly underscores the importance of self-love as the ultimate guide through life's challenges. She advocates acknowledging and integrating our shadows, overcoming resistance, and recognizing that our journeys are not punishments but pathways to growth. She provides personal anecdotes and encourages listeners to see their current struggles as parts of a larger transformative process. From the Episode: " Every hero begins in the ordinary world, the familiar, the safe, the routine, right? And then something whispers or maybe shouts. It's a call to step out, to grow, to change." "Growth never waits for perfect timing. So because of that, because it's rarely convenient, right? It's often inconvenient. Many of us resist the call. At first we pretend we didn't hear it, but the call always returns louder each time until we acknowledge it." " The call to adventure is simply your soul asking you to wake up, pay attention, and start walking toward who you want to be." " Resistance is natural because change feels like death to the ego." " Many people get stuck here forever. They live a whole life refusing the call. And deep down they know it. That's where bitterness lives." " If you are in resistance right now, I want you to remember this: Resistance doesn't mean stop. It means something big enough is calling you that fear had to show up too." "This stage — the ordeal stage — is messy and raw. Yes, it is. However, it's also where the deepest transformation happens. Okay? So if you are in the thick of it, remember this isn't a detour. This is the path. Every scar becomes part of your power." " The truth is that every challenge in your life has been training you. You're not waiting for a hero to arrive. You are the one. You, yes, you." " ...heroes rise, but they rarely rise alone. You don't have to do it all alone." " Being your own hero means you stop outsourcing your power. You stop waiting to be rescued. You stop waiting to be chosen. You realize you were the one holding the sword the whole time." Reclaiming September: Self-Compassion as the Fresh Start You Actually Need (Ep 48)
In this episode of Dreamed It Then Real Lifed It, host Kelly Jackson explores the emotional transition from summer to fall, emphasizing the pressure and promise September brings. Recognizing September as Self-Improvement and National Self-Care Awareness month, Kelly encourages listeners to reclaim it as a fresh start rooted in self-compassion rather than productivity pressure. The episode underscores the importance of creating compassionate rituals, addressing emotional fallouts, and finding joy in micro moments. Kelly also introduces the concept of a Self-Love September calendar to help listeners navigate the season with ease and alignment. Tune in for practical tips on easing into new routines, embracing self-compassion, and sustaining joy under pressure. From the Episode: " So what if we reframe September, not as another deadline, but as this temple for self-care and reflection?" "We don't need more productivity hacks. We need internal reset rituals, ones that are fueled by self-love and not self pressure." "Self-compassion isn't just soft. It's smart." "Self-compassion is your internal reset button and it rewires how you show up, how you pace, how you trust yourself, and not by changing your plans, but how you hold yourself while you're living them." " Play. Play is medicine. When overwhelm hits, allow delight — not as procrastination, but as nourishment — and maybe novelty is what is going to turn your joy on again." " ...self-compassion is not denial. It is reclamation." " And look, a calendar isn't an obligation. It's an ally. You gotta look at it that way." " Joy doesn't live in someday. It lives in the micro moments of right now." "You don't have to fake joy. You can borrow it from the self who already knows that you made it through." " You don't have to armor up and grind your way through every season of life. You can choose to meet pressure with softness, and you can choose to meet it with presence, and you can choose to meet it with joy, and maybe that feels radical." Cultivating Inner Glow: The Art of Becoming Magnetic (Ep 47)
Join host Kelly Jackson as she unveils the secrets of becoming truly magnetic through self-love. Imagine walking into a room and naturally captivating everyone without uttering a word—it's all about the energy you carry. In this inspiring episode, Kelly reveals how loving yourself unconditionally not only boosts your confidence but also radiates a powerful, authentic glow that draws others in. She distinguishes between confidence and self-love, and explains why the latter is key to an all-encompassing personal transformation. With metaphorical stories of caterpillars, goo, and even borrowed beliefs, Kelly artfully guides you on a journey to self-acceptance and inner peace. Ready to stop chasing validation and start embodying your true worth? Tune in to discover how you can light up from the inside out and transform not just your life, but the lives of those around you. Don’t miss this chance to awaken your inner glow and become the magnetic presence you were always meant to be. From the Episode: " The topic is becoming magnetic—why Self-love makes you glow—and there is something unexplainable about people who radiate. You know that moment when you walk into or when someone else like walks into a room and everyone turns their head, and it's not because of what they're wearing. It's not because of their job title. It's because of the energy that they are carrying." "Your energy broadcast a frequency before your voice even enters the space. And when you're rooted in self-love, your energy signals safety and openness and confidence, and that makes people drawn to you without you having to perform anything." "A lot of people confuse confidence with self-love, but they're not the same thing. Confidence can sometimes be situational. You may feel confident in your job or your style or a certain role. You're like, oh yeah, I'm confident here, but self-love is deeper... It's unconditional acceptance of who you are, even when you're not performing well." "... true magnetism, it doesn't come from puffing yourself up. It comes from being so anchored in self-love that nothing can knock you off your center." " You resonate it by being. When you love yourself, you vibrate at a frequency that attracts what matches you. So whether it is opportunities or friendships or love, you don't have to chase it. Things start gravitating toward you." " When you embody self-love, you give others permission to love themselves too, and your presence becomes this mirror. And it's like: hey, it's safe to be fully yourself here. I'm doing it. Yes, you can do it too." " The glow up... It's an inside job." " And the deepest glow ups come when you stop outsourcing your worth, and you start cultivating love from the inside. That's when you radiate." " It's authenticity that is lit up by love." " Self-love is the universal glow, and it is what makes you magnetic." When the Old You Stops Fitting—But the New You Hasn't Arrived Yet (Ep 46)
Kelly Jackson guides listeners through the challenging and often disorienting process of transformation, known as liminality. She explains this 'awkward in-between space' as the period when the old self unravels and the new self has yet to fully emerge. This isn't a void but a sacred space where true becoming occurs. Kelly emphasizes the importance of patience and trust during this phase, sharing anecdotes and practical advice on how to sit with discomfort, embrace shedding old identities, and find resonance in the process. Through reflections on ego death, the power of pause, and aligning with one's true self, she offers a compassionate roadmap for navigating the path to becoming one's highest self. From the Episode: " You're not broken though. You're not late. You're just between versions. This is not an error in the timeline. This is the timeline, okay? You're not falling behind. You are falling deeper into yourself. And this isn't a breakdown. It is a breakthrough mid-process." " When life quiets your external world, it's an invitation to hear your internal one." " This sacred middle space isn't meant to be rushed. It's meant to be revered. Something is stirring, something is preparing to emerge." " When they begin to dissolve, your ego panics, but your soul exhales, and that's the part I want you to hear and focus on." " When those old archetypes start to loosen, it can feel like you're falling apart, but really you're falling open." " You are not who you used to be, and that is a sign of evolution and not failure." " ...the void isn't empty... Like I said, it's pregnant with possibility, but if we rush to fill it with distractions, performances, premature decisions... we miss the quiet wisdom that lives there." " The void is your cocoon. It is not your grave. You did not come into the void to die a slow, miserable death. Even though at times that is exactly what it feels like." " ...transformation rarely introduces itself by name. You don't get a neat little announcement, 'hi, you're becoming your highest self. Here's what to expect in the next three to five business days.' No, guys, it's messy." " You're not too sensitive. You are tuning in, and resonance first shows up as discomfort. Then as clarity." The Language Beneath Words: Energy is Universal (Ep 45)
In this episode, the host Kelly Jackson takes a dive into the universal language of energy, discussing how it transcends spoken dialects and is inherently understood by all beings from birth. Kelly explores how energy literacy can enhance our awareness and connectedness, emphasizing the significance of aligning our words, actions, and true feelings. She offers practical advice on managing one’s energy, particularly in challenging environments, and underscores the importance of setting energetic boundaries. Throughout, Kelly shares personal anecdotes and encourages listeners to trust their body's intuitive responses, aiming to inspire a fuller, more authentic way of living grounded in energetic awareness. From the Episode: " ...there is one language that transcends dialect. It's one you have always known. It's one you were born fluent in, and it's the language of energy." " Energy was your first language, and it's still the most honest one that you will ever speak." " Energy is like learning a language. So the more you practice, the more fluent you become and you start to notice things like: 'she smiled, but something felt off', or 'I left that conversation feeling drained even though nothing bad was said', or 'This decision looks right on paper, but my gut is saying no'." " Energy doesn't lie. It whispers when words mislead, and it's the truth beneath the tone." " Energy doesn't lie, guys. It's where the real power lives, because when your energy and your words don't match, people can feel it." " Your unspoken grief, your quiet shame, your anger that you've never been allowed to express. It all has a frequency, and that frequency can be felt." " It is not about fearfully avoiding other people's energy... It's about strengthening your field so that you're not a sponge, you're a lighthouse." " When you are highly empathetic or sensitive or simply awake, you can feel everything, but just because you feel it doesn't mean you need to carry it." "Energy is a language that you were born understanding. You are remembering how to speak it more fluently every day. Your awareness is your power. Your coherence is your leadership. Your energy is sacred. Always protect it." " When you stop chasing resonance and start honoring it. You begin to create a life that feels lighter and more magnetic and more you." Patterns: Your Life's Way of Trying to Wake You Up (Ep 44)
In this episode, host Kelly Jackson delves into the concept of patterns that repeat in our lives, affecting our relationships, careers, health, and emotions. She argues that these recurring situations are not coincidences but patterns that serve as portals for self-discovery and transformation. Through a mix of psychology, neuroscience, spirituality, and personal storytelling, Jackson explores how recognizing and understanding these patterns can empower individuals to transform their lives. She emphasizes that awareness of patterns leads to personal growth and breaking free from subconscious programming. Whether it's through shadow work, journaling, or therapy, this episode provides tools and insights to help listeners become aware of and shift their deeply entrenched patterns. Jackson also touches on the scientific and metaphysical aspects of patterns, offering practical advice for how to recognize, question, and rewrite them for a more fulfilling and authentic life. From the Episode: " ...the moment you stop calling it a coincidence and start calling it a pattern, is the moment you reclaim your power." " What we don't make conscious will continue to run our lives." " The mirror doesn't lie, but it can be cleaned." " When something shows up again and again, a toxic job, a draining friendship, money, drama, rejection, and love—like whatever the case may be—it's not punishment. It's an invitation to interrupt the loop." " Most people think that healing is about moving on, but sometimes it's about zooming in and asking, what am I being asked to see here that I have never seen before?" " Your brain is wired to follow the familiar and not the functional. We repeat what's predictable, even if it's painful, and that is called neuroplasticity and emotional survival." " You're not addicted to the pain, you're addicted to the pattern that once made you feel safe, but maybe it's not making you feel safe anymore." " Patterns are sacred teachers in spiritual growth. For instance, repeating patterns are like soul assignments... Until you pass the lesson, you repeat the class. I mean, this is Earth School after all..." "...your triggers are breadcrumbs. Every trigger is tied to a pattern... When you can trace it, you can transform it." " When you separate who you are from what you have learned, that's when freedom becomes real."
