It is another wonderful week of the Hive Music Festival–Week 186, Round 3, and I am particularly excited about the reunion I have prepared for this week's challenge. My rendition for this week's hive music festival entry is a country song that I really love titled FIRE AWAY. Chris Stapleton is just so good at what he does and I am in awe of his talent and skill every time I happen upon his music. Fire Away is what I would call a country ballad, a slow-paced story told with the utmost emotion and narrated using all the right instruments necessary to convey the message that the song is screaming into the world – a tale of persevering, unconditional love, a tale of a kind of live that stays through hardships and difficulties. This is best demonstrated by the official music video of the song, which I consider to be an absolutely brilliant creation. The video was released on YouTube 10 years ago now, but it remains as relevant today as it was all those years ago when it was first released. It is another wondrous week to share and enjoy varied musical renditions from varied musical talents all across the globe. I look forward to watching some of the renditions by other members of the community. This is week 185 of the Hive Music Festival and this week I have chosen to serve up a rendition of an old classic by an artist I would consider for the title of King of Soul. The song is titled Hit The Road Jack. Ray Charles was a revolutionary musician, a Black-American Singer-songwriter and pianist who was almost singlehandedly responsible for the birth of soul music in the 1950s. Although originally written by Percy Mayfield after a failed romantic adventure, the song was later recorded and released by Ray Charles in 1960 and it went on to top the charts and later win a Grammy for Best Rhythm and Blues recording. I personally love this song so much because it has such a swingy jive feel to it. The moment I start playing it, I'm taken back in my mind to a dusty old ballroom in the Wild West or something😂. A pretty woman in my hands, a revolver sheathed in my waist, and a half-full bottle of whiskey on the table waiting for me to be done dancing. There's just something about the upbeat rhythm of the chords that make it danceable on almost any instrument. The lyrics of the song also add a lot of depth to the song. A song about heartbreak will always be relatable anyways. I hope to someday be half the musician that Ray Charles was. There is a 2004 biopic about Ray Charles's life that starrs Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles, you should check it out and watch it. I promise you'll love it. It is an absolute pleasure of mine to be here again to bring you this performance this week. It is week 170 round 2 of the Hive Music Festival organized by the @musiczone community. I just want to say how awesome it is that amateur musicians like me have been given this stellar opportunity in the form of a neutral platform to share our talents and get recognized and rewarded for our efforts. And even though, I am not the most consistent person of this platform, it is still always an absolute pleasure whenever I'm able to get away from my day job and make an appearance here. The song I will be performing this week is titled It'll be okay by Shawn Mendez. This song as far as I am concerned, is probably Shawn Mendez's magnum opus. It is a very heavy song with deep lyrics that most people will certainly be able to relate to. The slow pace of the song really allows ample time for the lyrics to sink into your soul and pierce even the thickest layers of protection, revealing that emotional being underneath. The song is essentially about realizing the fact that a relationship is not going to ripen until death the way you'd initially imagined. But instead of freaking out with arms flailing in the air and tears welling up in your eyes till they block out the light rays, you just accept your fate in a stoic fashion. I suppose it is funny in a way, but only in retrospect, as someone who has actually been in such a situation before. I love the lyrics so much, and I also particularly love the visual imagery in the official music video of the song, which shows Shawn Mendez alone walking down the street as he sings the song. I think it really depicts the aloneness and loneliness that stems from such a situation and how it would typically take a while to begin to feel whole again. https://3speak.tv/watch?v=emmaba1/dzpbbcjg This is my entry for The Song Challenge for the year 2025. Phase 2. This song is an original composition of mine titled HEALING BY FIBROSIS. This song has a particularly interesting history because, first of all, it was not one of those songs that just burst out of me in one continuous, unbroken go. The song came together over a span of about 10-11 months, piece by piece, verse by verse, till I was left with one coalesced, tightly knit song that somehow felt like it indeed burst out of me in a singular moment borne by intense passion. Although, it didn't start out as a crazy, heartfelt, passionate song, in time, it came to be that way, and no other way. The year was 2020, the month was January, and I was about one week away from my second professional medical board exams, or MB2, as we call it. I was in my room, revising a pathology slide which was titled WOUND HEALING, and I'm sure by now you can guess that that's where the title of the song came from, its birthing place. One of the ways a wound can heal is by fibrosis, that is when it leaves a scar. Something sparked within me and I grabbed my guitar, and I began to sing what would eventually become the chorus of this song. This is healing by fibrosis This is healing by fibrosis This is healing by fibrosis This is healing with a scar I then continued reading or went on to do whatever else it was I did that day. Months down the line, around July that year, it was the middle of the lockdown which was as a result of the corona virus pandemic and I had been writing a lot of poems and songs with all the free time I had. That particular day, I stumbled upon the voice recording of the chorus I had made in January, and decided to make it into a full song, so I got to work and wrote the first verse, which is more like four verses really. Lol. But I didn't finish it that day. Another few months passed and we're in October or November by now, I came across the incomplete song in my songbook and finally decided to work up the courage to finish it up, so I wrote the second verse and the bridge. And voila, the song was finally complete. Ultimately, this song of mine is the story of a guy who was heartbroken, healed with a scar, and now finds it hard to give in to love coz of the hurt it had given him in the past. Don't be like him. Love with reckless abandon nonetheless. Be better. Enjoy.

I previously had no idea that this challenge even existed until just a few days ago, and how glad I was. I've never really had the opportunity to put any of my original songs out there, for many reasons. I have never been really financially bouyant enough to get any of them produced professionally. I also have the occasional bout of doubt and imposter syndrome in my abilities as a songwriter and musician generally, so much so that I often shy away from putting my work out there. But I realize that fortune only favors the bold so I've been dealing with that, and this platform is one of those that help me deal with that. Here, I have found acceptance for my beginner music and I am very grateful for that, beyond what I can fully express. The song I play in this video post is an unreleased song of mine titled CHANGE IS A CONSTANT. I wrote the song early this year, sometime in late May. The song is mostly self-explanatory and is the summation of two to three major life events that happened to me around the time. I had graduated last year October as a medical doctor. Early in April, I left my residential town of Ibadan, Nigeria to go commence my one year of compulsory housemanship or internship in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state, Nigeria. This is how the song starts, and what the first half of the first verse talks about. The rest of the verses detail some circumstances that contributed to me wanting to move. I had a huge falling out with my dad in February that led to him disowning me and me being unapologetic about anything and going willfully into exile. Before you go ahead and judge me, as I can sense some will do, remember, you don't know all the details. That some month in February, my girlfriend of over 6 months broke up with me, not coz either of us did anything, coz we were perfect for each other, but over differences in religious beliefs at the time. So much has been left unsaid but all of these culminated into the chorus. The chorus, in conjunction with the bridge is a statement of acceptance. A choice not to wallow in self-pity or any other wasteful emotion. Something that says “I realize this is a change, and change is a constant, and with change being the only constant thing in life, the only choice left is to accept the changes while praying, hoping, and working you way better days. I hope there is a lesson in here somewhere for anyone who listens to my song. Thank you.

John Mayer has said the inspiration for the song came to him on a Sunday when he was surfing the net and searching for an old ex, who happens to have been his very first girlfriend ever who he met when they were both 15 years old. I think it is simultaneously a very cute and very sad storyline. Anyways, let's halt the long talk, enjoy the song.

This is Hive Music Festival Week 138 round 3, and I am more than excited to be participating in this music festival after at least two whole months of inactivity on this platform. I have absolutely missed playing music and engaging on this Hive platform, but to drop an explanation that nobody asked for, lol; I have had full time employment as an intern doctor for over 7 weeks now, which has been unbelievably busy and has left me with reduced free time to pour into other activities such as Hive. Hopefully, I'm able to find a balance and still be reasonably active on Hive, coz I really love this platform. In this video, I perform a song that has been trending on social media since its release in August 2, 2024. I only recently found out about the song when one of my viewers on my YouTube channel requested as a comment under one of my videos that I play a cover of this song. I immediately swung into action and went to listen to the song on YouTube, and I have to tell you, I was pleasantly pleased with the sounds that blessed my ears. I have been quite sick for a while now, which also caused me to lose my voice. As a result, I have been inactive on Hive for a little over a month now. I'm doing much better now and it is my absolute pleasure to finally get to do what I love doing the most–perform music for an audience, however small or large. For this entry, I am going to be performing a song that I have listened to repeatedly recently. BRUISES BY LEWIS CAPALDI. I also recently went through a romantic heartbreak in the past month, so this song is one that really hits close to home right now. Bruises was initially released in 2017 as a single , before being rereleased in the same year as a track on his debut album after signing on to a record label. There are so many things to love about this song. For me, it is firstly the lyrics. The very first line in the song being Counting days, counting days since my love up and got lost on me is just so freaking great and heartbreaking. I think it is an absolutely wonderful way to start a heartbreak song for real. Another great thing is just the laid-back, chill instrumental backing of the song. Oh Lord, the harmonies at the bridge always get me. If you have never seen the music video of this song, you absolutely should. Lewis Capaldi has performed this song at multiple live shows since its release, and it has become one of his most popular songs, probably the most popular one of his songs. Lewis Capaldi was recently diagnosed of Tourette's syndrome, which makes him have tics during some of his live performances staccato-ish. The song I have chosen to perform this week is titled Will You Remember Me? This week's prompt proved to be a bit abstract for me. However, I stumbled upon this song again yesterday while I was surfing YouTube and thought to myself "this is not exactly my truth at the moment, but it's pretty close enough,” so I thought I'd give it a go. The song is from the TV series Kyle XY, and I'm still angry with abc for discontinuing it when they did, and so abruptly too. Anyways, I've always loved songs in movies, musicals, and things like that, and this one was just particularly good to listen to. It is always an absolute pleasure of mine to participate in this Hive Music Festival week after week alongside other great musicians across the globe. It is Hive Music Festival Week 121 Round 1, and I am going to be performing one of my favorite Adele songs, probably my most favorite, titledONE AND ONLY. I love this song for so many reasons. One of those reasons is that it is genuinely one of the few songs by Adele that goes against her brand, in a way, because she mostly sings songs that have a theme of heartbreak. She has even been dubbed The Heartbreak Queen by the entertainment media on multiple occasions. Among the plethora of heartbreak songs authored by Adele, it was such a breath of fresh air to discover this song that speaks of true love and longing for a singular partner, wanting them to be yours and wanting to be theirs. Another reason that I really love the song is that it really gives off a strong oldies vibe. Like the kind of sound Aretha Franklin and friends used to make in the 1900s. The organ sound in the song also gives it a certain feel of black church kinda choir music, in some weird way. I just love the instrumentation of the song as a whole. It was also perfectly produced with such a balanced mix. Then, the lyrics. Oh, the lyrics. I absolutely love the lyrics so so much. I dare you to let me be your one and only. I promise I'm worthy to hold in your arms. Come on and give me the chance to prove that I'm the one who can walk the mile until the end starts. In my opinion, nothing beats the beauty of the lyrics of that chorus. It's unbelievably beautiful and romantic.
