Evil Everywhere: A True Crime and Horror Podcast

Skara, Sweden. A small, quiet city with more than a thousand years of history. It was founded, according to local tradition, nearly a thousand years ago. For centuries, Skara was known as a center of religion and education. It is home to one of Sweden's oldest schools, and its medieval cathedral still stands at the heart of the city. It's not the kind of place you would expect to become synonymous with one of the most disturbing crimes in Swedish history. But in November of 2010, behind the doors of an apartment, something horrific happened. And at the center of it was a man named Isakin Drabbad. But Isakin wasn't always Isakin Drabbad. He was born Jimmy Daniel Isaksson in 1978, and from a young age, his life was marked by instability. He spent much of his youth moving in and out of institutions and eventually accumulated convictions for crimes including theft and drug offenses. As he grew older, his struggles with substance abuse and serious mental health problems became increasingly significant. And then there was his fascination with the occult. He talked about demons. He talked about the devil. He talked about evil spirits and what he called “the other side.” Eventually, Isakin met a woman named Helle Christensen while the two were patients at a psychiatric clinic. They fell in love, moved to Skara together, and tried to build a life. But behind that attempt at a new beginning, their relationship was becoming increasingly volatile. Arguments became more frequent. And Helle's family began to worry about her safety. In November of 2010, Isakin committed a crime so horrific that it was almost impossible to comprehend. This is the story of Isakin Drabbad, the man known as the Skara Cannibal. It's the story of Helle Christensen. This story reminds us that evil can be anywhere, even behind the face of someone we believe loves us, even as they slowly descend into darkness.

During World War II, the U.S. government created a secret study to learn what plutonium did to the human body. Plutonium is the radioactive metal used in nuclear weapons. What may or may not cause shock, the subjects in this experiment were NOT volunteers. They were hospital patients, all with some form of critical ailment, one of which was only 4 years old. Without any physical evidence of informed consent, 18 patients were injected with plutonium as part of a classified Manhattan Project experiment. Others lived for decades and were monitored for the rest of their lives.  Years later, government investigations found no evidence that the patients had been told what they were being injected with. Family members wouldn’t find out about it until almost 50 years after. It was supposed to be just another Halloween party. On October 23, 1981, seventeen-year-old Kurt Sova left his home in Newburgh Heights, Ohio, to spend the evening with friends. By all accounts, Kurt was a kind, gentle teenager who was close with his parents. He wasn't known for staying out all night, and if he was ever running late, he always made sure they knew where he was. But that night, Kurt never came home. For five days, his family searched desperately, following every lead they could find and hoping someone had seen him. Then, just half a mile from the Halloween party he'd attended, Kurt was found dead in a ravine. His body was lying face up in what witnesses described as a strange, "Christ-like" pose, yet there were no obvious signs of violence. Even more unsettling, the autopsy concluded that Kurt had only been dead for 24 to 36 hours even though he'd been missing for five days. The area where he was found had reportedly already been searched multiple times. So where was Kurt during those missing days? How did he die? And why did police suspect foul play while the coroner ultimately ruled his death was due to natural causes? More than four decades later, those questions remain unanswered. In October of 2020, in a quiet part of northeast Texas, a young woman named Reagan Simmons-Hancock was getting ready for one of the most important moments of her life. She was a wife, a mother. On March 3rd, 2008, John and Elizabeth Calvert walked into a meeting with their accountant and were never seen again. Had they left town? Maybe something had simply been missed. But within days, their silver Mercedes was found abandoned in a parking lot, covered in debris, with no sign of the couple inside. investigators began looking everywhere. The Calverts’ credit cards had not been used. Their private plane never left the ground. Their boat was still in the marina, no signs of struggle or papers with plans of travel. Attention quickly shifted to the last known point of contact. Surveillance footage and phone records began to paint a more complicated picture of what may have happened to the Calverts, a phone turned off for hours, strange late-night movements and a series of actions that didn’t match this accountants' original statements. Although circumstantial, enough evidence was obtained to execute a search of this accountant’s home which turned up even more circumstantial evidence. But the most critical items he had been seen purchasing were missing. Even with mounting suspicion, all the evidence remained circumstantial. And still, no sign of John and Elizabeth Calvert. High above the Victorian town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the Crescent Hotel & Spa has stood watch in the Ozark Mountains since 1886. Originally built as a luxury resort for travelers intrigued by the area’s healing springs, the hotel would become much more. It once served as a women's college when tourism slowed, survived a devastating fire, and became the site of a particularly dark chapter when a fraud doctor turned it into a cancer clinic, promising miracle cures. But there was no cure. The treatments were described as torture, claiming at LEAST 42 desperate souls. Today though, it's known for something else entirely. There have been numerous reports of hearing disembodied children laughing, seeing Victorian figures appear and vanish, and other strange activity in some of the hotel's most infamous rooms. Stories have been spread of a ghostly child playing with a red ball, the spirit of a nurse who tidies up, an Irish stone mason who met a tragic fate and even sightings of the fraudulent doctor himself. News headlines were going nuts this past January 2026 with disturbing headlines: Corpses discovered in someone’s home. For months, police in Pennsylvania were receiving reports  of graves and mausoleums being desecrated and robbed around the Philadelphia, Yeadon area. Not only were treasured items taken, like jewelry or clothing but the remains themselves had also been taken. A tip pointed them in the direction of 34 year old Jonathan Gerlach. After being caught in the act, a search of his home revealed more horrors than anyone could have anticipated. Jonathan currently sits in custody held on over 500 charges of theft, burglary and abuse of a corpse. The city is full of quiet streets, experiences endless wind and according to many who live there, something else lingers beneath the surface. Downtown Cheyenne is said to be full of locations tied to unexplained stories. And at the center of it all stands the historic Plains Hotel. Built in 1911, the five-story hotel once hosted figures like Ernest Hemingway, Charles Lindbergh, and even the first female governor in U.S. history. But over time, its reputation changed. Guests report hearing crying from empty rooms. A woman in a blue dress wandering the halls. The scent of cigar smoke with no source. A room tied to mysterious 911 calls. But the Plains Hotel isn’t the only place said to be haunted. Just blocks away sits St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the oldest church in Wyoming. Bergen, Norway 1970. A woman is found dead in an isolated Norwegian valley. No name. Every clothing label removed. A few days after, two suitcases are discovered at a nearby railway station, filled with wigs, multiple currencies, and a notebook filled with coded messages. When the codes were cracked, it proved she had checked into hotels under at least 8 different aliases. Reports from witnesses at these hotels revealed the woman had changed her appearance constantly. She also may have been seen near sensitive military sites during the height of the Cold War. And decades after her death, forensic testing revealed she was likely born in Germany and spent part of her childhood in Paris. But still, 56 years later, there is no identity. No clear answers. Back in 1971, a woman named Maria was casually doing house chores in her home in Belmez when she noticed a strange pattern forming in the concrete floor. What would you do in the face of murder charges? Most people would be frantic, pleading their innocence, and very anxious of what is to come. But that was not the case for Jessie Costello in 1933. That February, she found her husband, Captain William J. Costello, dead on the floor of their home in Peabody, MA. At the request of close friends, an autopsy was performed which found poison, despite the body having already been embalmed.  It was confirmed the poison had been sold to Mrs. Costello the night before the captain’s death, but Mrs. Costello claimed she had been using it simply as a cleaning agent. In one of the sunniest counties in Ireland stands a mansion, known for being haunted but it all began with a simple game of cards. On the southeastern coast of Ireland, in County Wexford, Loftus Hall stands on the Hook Head peninsula overlooking the sea. It is often described as one of the most haunted houses in the world. The land itself has 800 years of history and stories, beginning with the Norman invasion in the 1100s. Over centuries the property changed hands, eventually becoming Loftus Hall. But the story most people remember began in 1765. During a violent storm, a stranger arrived at the door of Loftus Hall seeking shelter. Welcomed inside by the Tottenham family who currently owned the estate and the stranger stayed for several nights. One evening during a game of cards, Anne Tottenham dropped a card and bent to pick it up. When she looked under the table she exclaimed the stranger was not human. Unfortunately, Anne never recovered from this incident. Seemingly going insane, she was locked away for the remainder of her life. Since then unexplained occurrences have been reported inside Loftus Hall. Disembodied voices, shadow figures, cold spots, and an overwhelming feeling of being watched. In October of 2024, 35-year-old Dustin Kjersem set up a tent at a remote campsite near Big Sky, Montana. He was planning a quiet weekend in the mountains and was supposed to pick up his girlfriend the next day so they could spend a few days camping together. But that pickup never happened, and no one could reach him. At first, the silence didn’t seem completely unusual. The campsite he had chosen was deep in the backcountry, in an area with little to no cell service. But as more time passed, the concern started to grow. So, on October 12th, his girlfriend and a friend drove out to try and find the campsite themselves. What they discovered was a scene was so violent that investigators initially believed Dustin had been attacked by a grizzly bear, and in that part of southwestern Montana, that explanation didn’t seem impossible. But as investigators began looking closer, something didn’t add up. There were no bear tracks, no signs of wildlife, nothing that suggested an animal had been there at all. And when the truth began to come out, it revealed something far more disturbing than anyone had expected: a peaceful campsite in the mountains, a friendly man who had welcomed a stranger, and a crime so brutal that it was believed only an animal could have done it. In 1997, 44-year-old realtor Michael “Irish” McMorrow was known for his easy laugh and love of Central Park. He was always the life of the party so it came as a shock to all when he was at the center of one of the most shocking crimes New York City has seen. It started when a 15-year-old girl, Daphne Abdela, had been reported missing only to be found moments later washing blood off with her boyfriend, 15-year-old Christopher Vasquez. At first, it sounded like a rollerblading accident. Later that same night, Daphne called officers back saying “There’s a body in the lake in Central Park.” Police went to the location she described and were able to locate the body of Michael McMorrow. But the scene was more gruesome and horrific than they had expected. Evidence gathered at the scene and both teen’s homes connected both of them directly to the murder, blood evidence, a knife and the discovery of McMorrow’s wallet in Daphne’s bedroom. But the case became complicated in court. Both teenagers, who became known as the Baby Faced Butchers, were both sentenced, but it felt far from justice to the McMorrow family. Today, a memorial bench in Central Park’s Strawberry Fields honors “Irish” McMorrow, remembering the man friends say was always laughing in the park he loved.        

Back in the 1970s, the United States was facing the aftereffects of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal. There wasn’t much to do for young teens like there is today so most teens would enjoy cruising in their vehicles with friends down long stretches of roads and stopping by the local Taco Bell to hang out. Carla Walker and her boyfriend Rodney did the same after they left their high schools Valentine’s Day Dance in Fort Worth, Texas on February 16, 1974. As they were making out in the front seat of the vehicle, a man swung the passenger door open and pointed a gun directly in Rodney’s face. After Rodney was knocked unconscious, Carla was kidnapped by the man and never seen again. Her body was found in a culvert a few days later brutally beaten and sexually assaulted. No one knew who could have done something to this sassy, fiery, vibrant teenager. A lot of physical and forensic evidence was collected but the testing at the time was not advanced enough. For 45 long years, Carla’s case remained cold, her parents passing on without knowing what truly happened to their daughter. Built in 1773 in the heart of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, the Red Lion Inn began its life as a colonial tavern, serving travelers for nearly a century. When the Plumb family purchased the property, they didn’t just preserve it they transformed it. Mrs. Plumb personally filled the halls with colonial furniture, china, and artwork, curating an atmosphere that still lingers today inside the Inn. Unfortunately, in 1896, a devastating fire destroyed the original structure. Two world wars, Prohibition, and the Great Depression all threatened the future of the Inn. And yet it endured. Over the centuries, presidents, poets, and celebrities have all checked in, helping build its legendary reputation. Visitors and staff have long reported ghostly apparitions, sudden cold spots, and the unmistakable feeling of an unseen presence drifting through the historic corridors. And here’s where it gets even stranger. This isn’t the only Red Lion Inn with paranormal claims. Across England in places like Avebury, Salisbury, and Gloucester, you’ll find other locations bearing a similar name such as Red Lion Hotel or Red Lion Square, many with their own paranormal experiences attached. In late 1980 and early 1981, the Northwest region of the United States was under a cloak of terror. It seemingly all began in October 1980 when a young woman named Cherie Ayers was found murdered in her Portland bedroom. No forced entry, No clear suspect. Weeks later, on Thanksgiving night, a young woman and her boyfriend are discovered murdered and bound with athletic tape. The only thing missing from the home was a .32 caliber silver revolver. Then the 911 calls began. In Seattle, a man with a silver revolver and athletic tape across the bridge of his nose was committing robberies up and down Interstate 5. Twenty-four attacks in just weeks. The media dubbed him the I-5 Bandit. In January 1981, another young woman, Shari Hull was bound, shot, and left for dead in Salem. Her friend survived the attack, giving the same description as the I-5 Bandit. Same build. Same gun. Same tape. Days later, in California, a nurse and her teenage daughter are found murdered in their home just off I-5. Ballistics confirm it’s the same .32 caliber weapon. 500 miles of highway. 3 states. And at the center of it all. One killer. Harrisonburg, Virginia is known as a quiet Shenandoah Valley college town framed by the Blue Ridge Mountains, home to James Madison University, a place often described as safe, close-knit, and steady. But in late 2021, that sense of steadiness was shaken. Behind an unassuming shopping center on Evelyn Byrd Avenue, human remains were discovered concealed, discarded, and at first unidentified. What followed was the uncovering of a pattern: women disappearing. At least four women across Virginia from Harrisonburg to Fairfax County, lost their lives. They were not all found in the same place. Their remains were discovered in different jurisdictions, in separate communities, at different times a pattern that might not have immediately appeared connected. What if I told you that one of the deadliest outbreaks in history didn’t spread through sickness, but through movement? In the summer of 1518, in Strasbourg, the residents experienced an outbreak that had happened only in minor cases before.  A woman stepped into the street and started dancing. No music. No celebration. And she didn’t stop for days, not eating or sleeping. After just a week, dozens of people had joined her. But this dancing wasn’t out of joy it was agony.  Within a month, hundreds were convulsing, twisting, leaping uncontrollably through the streets. They danced until their feet bled, or until they collapsed. Some danced until dying from exhaustion, heart failure, or strokes. Theories around what could have caused this have been debated for centuries. Some blame poisoning, other historians point to mass psychogenic illness, collective hysteria fueled by starvation, disease, religious terror, and constant death. Eventually, the dancing stopped as suddenly as it began with no explanation.  And to this day, we don’t really know why hundreds of people danced themselves to death in 1518. In the woods of Tennessee, there’s a circle you’re not supposed to step inside. Locals call it the Witches Circle, a ring of stone which sits somewhere outside Kingston, TN although the specific location is not known. Although not much information is confirmed, legend tells of a coven turned to stone for practicing their craft. People have seen dark figures roaming the forests and even heard whispers coming from the stones themselves. The location is said to be a possible portal to the underworld, but where? This not the only legend told in the state of Tennessee. Just miles away in what is now called Adams, TN, in the early 1800s, one family was terrorized by something unseen. An entity that scratched. Choked. And claimed it was a witch. The Bell family endured years of torment from an entity that would take the form of a beast with glowing red eyes as well as attack one of the family’s daughters physically. Only after the death of the patriarch John Bell did the occurrences cease. Today, locals still claim to see the figure with the glowing red eyes wandering the old Bell farm property. Others have claimed to encounter the witch in the network of caves underneath Adams. Montreal, Canada in 2012 was full of civil unrest. Between college protests and corrupt government officials, the city was full of tension. Among its residents was Jun Lin, a Chinese international student who came from China to attend college and brighten his future. The same day he was reported missing to the police on May 29, several more disturbing calls had come into the station of Montreal and to Ottawa police.  Body parts found in a suitcase and packages mailed to Canadian pollical party offices. An autopsy confirmed all the body parts belonged to Jun Lin. The investigation uncovered disturbing videos, a man desperate for fame and an international manhunt. With the help of authorities overseas, the suspect of Jun’s murder was caught and extradited back to Canada to be prosecuted. We hear it all the time from those accused of committing crimes….”I’m Innocent….i didn’t do it”. The problem? Convincing every else, including a judge and jury and providing evidence. Patricia Stallings faced this same speculation in 1989 when she was accused of poisoning her infant son. While in jail awaiting trial, maintaining her innocence, Patricia discovered she was pregnant again. What she and her husband David couldn’t imagine was this unexpected baby would end up providing the proof of Patricia’s innocence. The new infant, while under foster care, exhibited the same symptoms as his late brother. Testing confirmed a rare genetic disorder which if left untreated, would exhibit the same symptoms of antifreeze poisoning which was the initial cause of death of the infant Patricia was facing charges for. Despite the findings, Patricia still was convicting and sentenced to life in prison for poisoning her son. After her last appeal which aired on Unsolved Mysteries, local scientists conducted their own examinations and proved the mistakes of the evidence used to convict Patricia. Back in 1830, in Salem, Massachusetts, a wealthy retired sea captain, Joseph White, was found brutally murdered in his own home. 13 stab wounds and a bludgeoning to the skull, but there were no signs of robbery. The holiday season is a time where some may feel lonely despite being surrounded by the holiday cheer. Some decide to seek some sort of companionship during this time to ease their feelings. Kevin Bacon, 25 year old stylist from Swartz Creek, Michigan was a beacon of light to his loved ones. In December 2019, during the holiday season he was feeling a little lonely after not having much luck in prior relationships. He decided to meet up with a contact he met on grindr on Christmas eve. But when he didn’t show to his family’s Christmas brunch the next day, everyone became immediately concerned. After reporting him missing to the authorities, his father found Kevin’s car, abandoned. Police were able to gain access to Kevins’ phone left inside the vehicle and traced his last messages to a secluded home belonging to Mark Latunski. Mark was no stranger to police but no one was prepared for the horrors they found in his basement. Latunski admitted to atrocities that shocked the small town of Swartz Creek. He would ultimately plead guilty to open murder and mutilation, sentenced to life without parole, never showing a flicker of remorse.
