Independent, Intentional, Australian Made: The Fleur Collective Story | Fleur Richardson
What does it really mean to build a fashion brand around a woman the industry has spent decades ignoring? In this episode of Fashion Business Mindset, Elizabeth Formosa is joined by Fleur Richardson, founder and creative director of Fleur Collective, a 100% Australian-owned, female-founded womenswear brand built on a simple belief: clothing should move with you, not against you. Fourteen years in business. 95% made in Australia. Sizes 8 to 24 from day one. And a direct-to-consumer model built on genuine community and customer closeness. Fleur shares the real story behind those numbers. The design decisions, the sourcing challenges, the commercial pivots, and the personal discipline required to build and sustain a purpose-led fashion business in 2026. This is a grounded and commercially honest conversation for founders navigating growth, manufacturing complexity, and the challenge of serving a customer who deserves better. In this episode, we explore: How Fleur’s career across swimwear, menswear tailoring, raw materials and women’s wear shaped her commercial and creative lens The design philosophy behind Fleur Collective, and why fit, fabric and function drive every decision What inclusive sizing from 8 to 24 actually requires technically, and how the brand approaches grading across a diverse female body The decision to shut down wholesale and go direct-to-consumer, and why owning the customer relationship changed everything Live selling before it was a trend, and how the brand’s content model has evolved over nine years The realities and risks of sustaining 95% local manufacturing in Australia, including ageing maker networks and fabric supply challenges Why Fleur moved a small percentage of production offshore and how she approached that transition consciously Buying out a business partner and going all in, and what that decision unlocked What Fleur is building towards next, including an adaptive clothing project inspired by her brother Where AI sits in the business right now and the reality of adopting it as a small independent brand Key Takeaway Building a fashion brand with genuine commercial integrity means making decisions the outside world doesn’t always see. Fleur Richardson has spent fourteen years making those decisions. Quietly. Consistently. With her customer at the centre of every one. About the Guest Fleur Richardson is the founder and Creative Director of Fleur Collective — a 100% Australian-owned, female-founded womenswear brand crafting small-batch, considered collections for women who are done with compromise. Built on a belief that clothing should move with you, not against you, Fleur Collective has spent over a decade redefining what it means to dress with ease, confidence, and intention. The Pathway to Profitability in 2026
In this opening episode of Season 7, Elizabeth Formosa unpacks what profitability really requires in 2026 — and why net cash in the bank matters just as much as the P&L. Across the industry, many brands are growing. Revenue is up. Orders are flowing. From the outside, things look strong. But internally, margins are tighter, cash flow feels heavier, and decision-making has become more complex. This episode explores the shift required for founders who want sustainable, commercially sound growth. Elizabeth shares the five core pillars she sees separating reactive businesses from intentional ones: Clarity before growth Intentional product and inventory decisions Channel discipline Structure that matches the stage of the business Reducing founder and leadership decision load You’ll also hear why: – Profit is an accounting outcome– Cash is operational reality– And disciplined decision-making is the true driver of both This is not a tactical episode about quick wins. It’s a strategic conversation about building resilient fashion businesses that can grow, reinvest and stabilise with confidence. If 2026 feels like a year where your next decision truly matters, this episode is for you. _____ Work with Fashion Equipped in 2026 Ready to scale with clarity, confidence and intention? Shanya Suppasiritad, Founder of Rntr | Rental, Resale & Repair | Powering the Circular Economy
My guest today is Shaya Suppasiritad. Shanya is a change maker and creative thinker set out to disrupt the fashion industry with the circular movement. Shanya is the founder of Rntr, a platform helping brands drive growth through RE-commerce which includes Rental, Resale and Repair. Season after season brands are struggling to maximise their ROI for each collection as trends move rapidly. Items are often being discounted and many are left unsold. At the same time, more and more consumers are participating in re-commerce (rental + resale), shifting towards responsible consumption. But for brands to tap into the benefits of rental, resale and repair (New customer acquisition, loyalty, data, increased ROI efficiency and more)…, it can be costly and complex if done inhouse. That’s why Shanya founded Rntr. Shanya and her team want every brand to have the opportunity to step into and profit from the circular economy while owning the re-commerce experience for their brand. I took so much away from this dynamic conversation with Shanya and no doubt you will too. _____________________________________________ If you would like to take your Fashion Business to the next level, connect with us via any of the following links and enquire about Consulting, Mentorship or Online Learning. Impact Edit: Mary Lou Ryan, Co-Founder of bassike | Building A Successful, Iconic Australian Brand
Welcome to Impact Edit, where we bring you the most powerful insights and golden nuggets from our impactful conversations with thought leaders and changemakers in the fashion industry. We are revisiting a remarkable episode that left a lasting impression. In this snippet from our original podcast episode, I’m chatting with Mary Lou Ryan who co-founded bassike with Deborah Sams in 2006 to create what they couldn’t find: high quality, design-led, sustainably sourced wardrobe essentials. Lou & Deb chose to work with organic cotton, Australian makers and responsible business practices from the beginning. The pair designed the first collections from a 1950s cottage on Sydney’s Palm Beach, and bassike has the ease and vitality of Australian beach life in its DNA. Their debut collection was a considered edit of luxurious, organic cotton jersey t-shirts and pants that instantly connected with wearers in search of contemporary designs with the versatility to work within their existing wardrobes. Mary Lou holds the title of Director of Sustainability & Supply Chain at bassike, with a commitment to accelerating and amplifying positive change at the brand, within the community and the broader fashion industry. bassike is proudly B Corp and Climate Active Carbon Neutral certified. During our dynamic chat, Lou talks us through: Lou’s early days in the industry Why and how Lou and Deb launched bassike Bassike’s Responsible Business Journey Building Meaningful Partnerships Local Manufacturing & Sustainable practices Nurturing their loyal, engaged customer Working on Mindset & Wellbeing and so much more. I loved every minute of my time with Lou and no doubt you will too. Today’s episode focuses on an everyday accessible solution that provides the GIFT of health and wellness services to support to those who need it. This is something that can be integrated into any Workplace Wellness Program and shared with our family, friends and communities. Nikki Williams is a repeat entrepreneur, marketer and health and wellness advocate who has recently launched Mentwell; a digital gift card for health and wellness services where the receiver gets to choose how they redeem, at any service provider, Australia-wide. This means GPs, dentists, psychologists, all Allied Health, all alternative and complementary therapies, gyms, yoga and pilates studios, wellness centres, retreats and more. It's evident that Nikki has a unique ability to use her life experiences as a way of fuelling her passion when it comes to her work life. First, music was a coping mechanism to deal with a challenging family situation; so she became a music manager and PR professional. Then she dove head first into hospitality as a job, but realised she wanted to help hospitality owners and operators, so she started a successful digital marketing agency for this sector. Then wellness became important during a particularly difficult time during Covid, so she created a kids yoga mat company and started building Mentwell. Now Nikki is on a mission to make wellness the 3.0 of gifting. We've had material gifts like flowers and chocolates, then we moved to experience based gifting like hot air balloon rides, and now gifting wellness allows one another to potentially change the lives of those around us. Just 22 weeks after launching Mentwell, Nikki and her team have $5.8m in sales revenue secured for 2024 and are raising $1.5m through a Birchal crowdfunding campaign in May, 2024. Nikki dreams of being able to be a philanthropist as a full time job, helping to increase the global health and wellness of our communities, in particular those who are less fortunate or disadvantaged. Nikki has continuously used her intuition and curiosity to create businesses and she's excited to share her journey with Mentwell so far with our community. During our dynamic conversation, we dive into: The significant changes taking place in the health and wellbeing space The power of gifting Mentwell, Australia’s FIRST Health and Wellness Gift Card What choosing to align with Mentwell could mean for your business How embracing discipline rather than motivation can be transformational in each of our lives And so much more. Erin Deering, Co-Founder Triangl | Hanging By A Thread To Having it All
For anyone in business, this will be one of the most profound and moving episodes that you will listen to all year. Erin Deering, the accomplished Australian entrepreneur and co-founder of the renowned global swimwear brand, Triangl, has left a permanent mark on the fashion industry. Her innovative use of neoprene cuts and strategic embrace of the influencer effect propelled Triangl to cult status, culminating in a staggering valuation of USD$200 million. Yet, amidst the resounding success, Erin, like many women striving to 'have it all,' discovered the profound personal sacrifices that accompanied her professional journey. Feeling "totally broken" after years of relentless brand growth, Erin made a pivotal decision to step away from Triangl at its peak. This marked the beginning of an intensive period of self-discovery, during which she explored various avenues, including meditation, manifestation, and traditional therapy. Through this transformative process, Erin emerged with a rekindled sense of passion and purpose. In 2023, she launched a podcast titled "The Work," where she generously shared insights on business, personal development, and self-care. Erin, a multifaceted individual, has also embraced roles as a speaker, entrepreneur, mentor, and author. Her memoir, "Hanging By A Thread," recently claimed the #1 spot on Booktopia's charts. This year, Erin gears up to unveil her eagerly anticipated fashion brand in September. This venture reflects her unwavering commitment to blending style with substance, embodying the lessons learned from her remarkable journey. During this dynamic conversation, we dive into: The inspiration behind Erin’s book, Hanging by a Thread The highs and lows of growing the iconic Australian swimwear brand Triangl The experience of exiting Triangl and how it was navigated Erin’s healing journey from hanging by a thread to having it all The exciting upcoming launch of Erin's new fashion brand You can connect with Erin at: Instagram https://www.instagram.com/erinkdeering/ https://www.erindeering.com/ _______ If you would like to take your Fashion Business to the next level, connect with us via any of the following links and enquire about Consulting, Mentorship or Online Learning.
