Why Context Matters in Retellings? | Pride and Prejudice Devotional

Have you ever read a modern retelling of a classic book, like Pride and Prejudice, and felt it completely missed the point? Today on Geek Devotions, we're talking about why context changes everything, both in our favorite literature and when we study Scripture! In this episode, Celeste shares her honest (and maybe a little brutal) thoughts on the 2013 retelling, Eligible. We dive into why removing a story from its original timeframe can completely change its core message, and discuss the big difference between seeing yourself in a story versus projecting your own prejudices onto it. More importantly, we explore how this exact same "retelling" problem happens when we open our Bibles without looking at the historical context.Question of the Week: What is your LEAST favorite retelling of a classic story? (We're looking at you, modern Wuthering Heights adaptations...) Let’s talk about it in the comments! Why You Can't Run From Your Brokenness | Immortal Legend Batman Devotional

Over the last six months, I've been reading an Elseworlds Batman story where Bruce accidentally creates six shadow monsters out of his own brokenness. But it turned into a huge lesson about facing the things we run from.In this episode, we're talking about issue six of Immortal Legends Batman. Bruce Wayne tries to distance himself from his personal weakness, but it backfires, creating literal shadow monsters that tarnish his name. We connect this to the biblical story of Jacob wrestling with God, learning that we can't do this alone, and we often have to be humbled before we can truly heal💙 THANK YOU TO OUR PATRONSWe are so thankful to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who help make this ministry possible:Ruiz Family, Adam Arciniega, Branson Boykin, Nerd Chapel, Jacob Russell, Jeffrey Leon, Jonathan Herrman, Kevin Lovelace, Lady Lomax, Paul Turner, Paul J Powers, Savie Wilson, The Cel Cast, Monster Island Film Vault — and so many more.Thank you for your continued support!Become a Devoted Patreon Geek: 👉 https://www.patreon.com/GeekDevotionsDiscover other ways to support: https://geekdevotions.com/support/📒 Show Notes and Resources 📒⚡️ (Podcast) Listen to our extended chats on Comm Talk: https://geekdevotions.podbean.com/=============================📱 Connect with Geek Devotions:Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/GeekDevotionsInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/GeekDevotionsFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/GeekDevotionsTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@geekdevotions =============================Here are the ways to support us: ⚡️ PATREON: Become a monthly supporter: https://www.patreon.com/GeekDevotions⚡️ DONATE: Give a one-time gift via PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/GeekDevotions⚡️ WISHLIST: Check out our Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1OA5D71138PDO?ref_=wl_shareTimestamps:00:00 - Immortal Legend Batman 01:41 - Welcome to Geek Devotions02:22 - The Danger of Escaping Your Issues03:20 - Lessons from Jacob: Wrestling with God04:50 - Returning to the Source for Help06:29 - Growth and Passing the Mantle07:39 - Your Favorite Elseworlds Story? 08:35 - GeekCon Shreveport & Support Us

Real growth isn't usually about flashy moments—it's about the unflashy, daily disciplines that change how we react to the world around us.Time Stamps00:00 – Drew Hayes' Fred the Vampire Accountant: A Series Review.00:37 – Character Arcs: How Fred goes from Meek to Leader.01:47 – The Biblical Mandate for Maturity and Growth.02:16 – 1 Corinthians 13:11: Putting away childish ways in your faith.02:58 – How to stop being a "child" in your spiritual life.03:19 – The difference between Childlike Faith and Spiritual Immaturity.03:53 – Simple Habits for Spiritual Growth: Prayer and Scripture.04:26 – The Reaction Test: How to measure your maturity.05:03 – Overcoming struggles with Anger and Scripture Memorization.06:03 – Question of the Week: One small step for your faithKey TakeawaysGrowth is a Process: Just as Fred changes over the span of years in the book series, our faith requires time and intention to mature.Don't Stay Ignorant: We cannot remain in the same state of "not knowing" that we were in when we first came to Christ. We must push ourselves to learn biblical accuracy.Check Your Reactions: A major marker of spiritual maturity is emotional regulation. If you are struggling with the same anger or reactions you had a year ago, it's time to find a biblical way to move past it.Question of the WeekWhat is one small step you can take this week to grow in your faith? We aren't looking for giant leaps like preaching on a street corner—we're looking for commitments like reading the Bible for 7 days straight or dedicating time to prayer.Let us know your answer in the comments or on our social media!💙 THANK YOU TO OUR PATRONS We are so thankful to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who help make this ministry possible: Ruiz Family, Adam Arciniega, Branson Boykin, Nerd Chapel, Jacob Russell, Jeffrey Leon, Jonathan Herrman, Kevin Lovelace, Lady Lomax, Paul Turner, Paul J Powers, Savie Wilson, The Cel Cast, Monster Island Film Vault — and so many more.Thank you for your continued support! My Theory on Gui from Samurai Troopers 2026

In today's episode, we dive into the brand-new sequel series, Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers (famously known to many as Ronin Warriors), to explore the shocking origin of the new Red Trooper, Gui. We discuss Dallas' theory on how Gui’s journey from a corrupted "demon prince" to a human hero serves as a powerful reminder that no matter your past, you are never beyond the reach of redemption.Key Takeaways from Today’s Devotion:Your Past Does Not Define Your Future: Just as Gui was liberated from demon energy to become who he was truly meant to be, 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that in Christ, the old has passed away and the new has come.Gifts Can Be Redeemed: The enemy may try to corrupt or bury the "gifting" and "special calling" on your life through past trauma or bad environments, but those gifts can be reclaimed and used for great things.Walking in New Identity: Redemption often involves an internal conflict between an "old mindset" and your true purpose; choosing to walk in humility and grace allows God to soften hearts and rebuild what was lost.Question of the WeekWe want to hear from you! Why Delays Matter: Sentenced to Be a Hero

Waiting for the next episode of an anime like Sentenced to Be a Hero can be frustrating, but what if that "in-between" time is actually an opportunity for growth? Join us as we look at Jeremiah 29 to discover how to stay productive and prepare for the future, even when the wait feels crushing. In this episode:- Don't Waste the Wait: Just as God commanded the Israelites to build and plant during their captivity, we are called to "put our hand to the plow" and work diligently during our own seasons of waiting.- Community Sustains Passion: Silence kills excitement; sharing what we love with our community keeps our passion alive and prepares the environment for when the wait is finally over.- Legacy Over Instant Gratification: sometimes our preparation isn't just for us—we may be clearing the ground for the next generation to experience the fruition of the promises we are working toward.❓ Question of the Week: What anime coming out this season are you absolutely loving right now? Why Feeling Weak Doesn’t Mean You’re Failing | Predator Badlands Devotional

In this episode of Geek Devotions, Celeste looks at Predator Badlands and the struggle Dek faces as he tries to prove himself. His story lines up with something many of us deal with every day. We push so hard to be strong that we forget weakness is part of being human. This devotion digs into what Scripture says about God’s strength showing up in our weakness and why leaning on community matters more than we admit. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, dealing with self doubt, or wondering how faith fits into those moments, this conversation may help you rethink what weakness actually means. What Tron: Ares Gets Right About the Value of Life

In Tron: Ares, we hear Flynn tell Ares that the "Permanence Code" should really be called the "Impermanence Code." This idea struck a chord with us. We only get one life to live on this side of eternity, and James 4:13-15 reminds us just how brief it is. But Scripture reminds us that healing begins when we’re honest, with God, with ourselves, and with someone we trust. 📖 Scripture References: Matthew 18:15, James 5:15–16🧠 We’ll explore:Why confession isn’t about shame, it’s about healingHow community and honesty go hand in handWhat it really means to "let the past be the past till it’s weightless"THANK YOU TO OUR PATRONSWe’re incredibly grateful to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who help make this ministry possible:Ruiz Family, Adam Arciniega, Lady Lommax, Paul Turner, Jacob Russell, Mike Alderman, Nerd Chapel, Monster Island Film Vault, PaulJPowers.com, Michael Manacci, The Cel Cast, Savie Wilson, John Harju, Kevin Lovelace, Branson Boykin, Leah Miller, Brianna Sheagley — and so many more.Thank you for your continued support!SUPPORT GEEK DEVOTIONSWant to help us keep doing what we do? Discovering Faith part 3 | Faithfulness Explained | Lessons from Ghosts of Tsushima

In Part 3 of our Discovering Faith series, we’re talking about faithfulness, not just as a trait, but as the fruit the Holy Spirit produces in us as we walk with God every day. It’s not flashy. It’s not always easy. But it’s powerful. This week, we look at Ghost of Tsushima and how Jin Sakai’s journey reflects the kind of faithfulness that shows up in real life, built on a foundation, tested through emotion, and lived out in hard choices.📖 Featuring: Lamentations 3:22–23, Psalm 13:5, Luke 22🎮 Based on: Ghost of Tsushima (base game)Check out part 1: What is Faith: https://youtu.be/rTRMfFGjfjQ Check out part 2: What is Saving Faith: https://youtu.be/CK806ps38Ns THANK YOU TO OUR PATRONSWe’re incredibly grateful to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who help make this ministry possible:Ruiz Family, Adam Arciniega, Lady Lommax, Paul Turner, Jacob Russell, Mike Alderman, Nerd Chapel, Monster Island Film Vault, PaulJPowers.com, Michael Manacci, The Cel Cast, Savie Wilson, John Harju, Kevin Lovelace, Branson Boykin, Leah Miller, Brianna Sheagley — and so many more.Thank you for your continued support!SUPPORT GEEK DEVOTIONSWant to help us keep doing what we do? Discovering Faith Part 2 - What Is Saving Faith? The Matrix, the Gospel, and the Step That Changes Everything

Saving faith is more than just believing something in your head or feeling something in your heart. It’s a real, full-on step forward. In this episode, we break down what saving faith actually is and how it plays out in real life.Using The Matrix as a metaphor, we walk through the three key parts of saving faith: hearing the truth, being convicted by it, and taking that next step into action. Just like Neo had to make a choice, red pill or blue pill, we all come to a moment where we decide what we’re going to do with what we’ve heard and what we feel.Whether you’re a long-time believer or just now asking questions about Jesus, this conversation is for you.See Part One: What is Faith - https://youtu.be/rTRMfFGjfjQ Scriptures Used:Ephesians 2:8Romans 10:17Psalm 19:1John 16:8Matthew 13:3–9; 18–23Special shout out to  @ChristForTheNationsInc , Back in the early 2000's Dallas went to  @Youthforthenations  and your matrix themed camp that year helped to solidify some things in him.THANK YOU TO OUR PATRONSWe’re incredibly grateful to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who help make this ministry possible:Ruiz Family, Adam Arciniega, Lady Lommax, Paul Turner, Jacob Russell, Mike Alderman, Nerd Chapel, Monster Island Film Vault, PaulJPowers.com, Michael Manacci, The Cel Cast, Savie Wilson, John Harju, Kevin Lovelace, Branson Boykin, Leah Miller, Brianna Sheagley — and so many more.Thank you for your continued support!SUPPORT GEEK DEVOTIONSWant to help us keep doing what we do? Running the Race of Faith Isn’t About Winning — It’s About Finishing | Feat. Drew from The Cel Cast

In this week’s Geek Devotions, guest host Drew from The Cel Cast Podcast takes the wheel for a powerful and geeky devotional inspired by Mario Kart World and Hebrews 12:1–2. Life can feel like a chaotic race — full of red shells, detours, and moments where we just want to give up. But what if the goal isn’t to come in first… but simply to finish the race?Drew explores what it means to keep moving forward in your faith, even when you stumble, and reminds us that we’re not running alone — there’s a crowd cheering you on, and Jesus already crossed the finish line to make a way for you.Check out  @TheCelCastPodcast  : https://thecelcast.podbean.com/THANK YOU TO OUR PATRONSWe’re incredibly grateful to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who help make this ministry possible:Ruiz Family, Adam Arciniega, Lady Lommax, Paul Turner, Jacob Russell, Mike Alderman, Nerd Chapel, Monster Island Film Vault, PaulJPowers.com, Michael Manacci, The Cel Cast, Savie Wilson, John Harju, Kevin Lovelace, Branson Boykin, Leah Miller, Brianna Sheagley — and so many more.Thank you for your continued support!SUPPORT GEEK DEVOTIONSWant to help us keep doing what we do? Discovering Faith Part 1 - What is Faith?

What is faith, really? Is it just believing harder, or is there something deeper going on?In this first episode of our new 4-part series Discovering Faith, we dive into Hebrews 11 to uncover a biblical understanding of faith, one that blends the testimony of the past, conviction in the present, and bold action into the future.Whether you're into anime, comics, or gaming, we’ve all seen those moments when a hero is called to step out, not just because they believe, but because something inside them knows it's time. That’s what real faith looks like.📖 Scripture Reference: Hebrews 11:1🧠 We’ll explore:Why faith isn't just emotional or intellectualHow the testimonies of others spark our own journeyWhat it means to step forward even when things feel uncertain🙌 Stick around for the full series:1️⃣ What is Faith? She Said I Couldn’t Do a Devotion on House Flipper… Challenge Accepted

Can a game like House Flipper really teach us something about faith? This week, I took on a student’s challenge to create a devotion from one of the chillest games out there. Turns out, flipping virtual houses has a lot to say about spiritual growth. We don’t start with all the skills, we grow over time. And as we grow, we start to see things we never noticed before.Scripture reference: 1 Timothy 4:15"Practice these things. Be committed to them so that your progress may be evident to all."If you're into geek culture, love Jesus, and want to grow in your faith — you're in the right place.Let us know in the comments: Has a game ever taught you something deeper than expected?THANK YOU TO OUR PATRONSWe’re incredibly grateful to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who help make this ministry possible:Ruiz Family, Adam Arciniega, Lady Lommax, Paul Turner, Jacob Russell, Mike Alderman, Nerd Chapel, Monster Island Film Vault, PaulJPowers.com, Michael Manacci, The Cel Cast, Savie Wilson, John Harju, Kevin Lovelace, Branson Boykin, Leah Miller, Brianna Sheagley — and so many more.Thank you for your continued support!SUPPORT GEEK DEVOTIONSWant to help us keep doing what we do? What 'The Will of the Many' Taught Me About Faith, Growth, and Doing Hard Things

This week on Geek Devotions, Celeste shares her honest thoughts after finishing The Will of the Many by James Islington, a book that unexpectedly sparked a lot of emotions and thought. One specific quote stood out:“The man who is never nervous, never does anything hard. A man who is never nervous, never grows.”In this devotional, we unpack how that quote parallels biblical wisdom from Philippians 4:10–13. What does it really mean to face challenges while choosing contentment in Christ?
