23: Starting Soft: Finding a 2025 Word of the Year

Over the past few years, I’ve learned what’s best for me when it comes to goal planning for a new year is choosing a word of the year. Choosing a word to focus on feels more balanced than picking intense, strict goals. God has showed me something every year related to these words since I started this practice. And this year, I’m feeling led into gentler way of living. My good friend, Brooke, and I talk in this episode about:- A prayer retreat we took together that led me to my word of the year- How learning to take care of ourselves helps us love others more fully- An image God gave me at the beginning of 2025 that has started my year with hope for the futureIt’s never too late to pick a word to focus on, whether it’s for a year, a quarter, or even a week! I hope this episode helps you see how valuable you are and that taking care of yourself is just as important as (if not more!) than producing.Follow Grace for the Tryhard on Instagram!Watch on YouTubeWebsiteListen on Apple PodcastsListen on Spotify

21: Experiencing Grace Through Taking Responsibility

We all have choices every day. Choice can mean we have power, control, and freedom. It means we aren’t stuck with one option. It also means there are consequences of our choices. In the beginning of the Bible, we see the first humans had a choice: to trust and believe God or trust and believe a snake. Most of us know, they chose the snake and there were some not-so-fun consequences. We all make mistakes and bad choices, but our good God gives us an opportunity to respond to our choice. Will we cover, hide, or blame others for our mistakes? Or will we take responsibility?Taking responsibility is hard, especially when our worth is tied up in how we perform. But when our identity is in Jesus and His final work on the cross, we can take responsibility for our mistakes and it can actually produce connection. In this episode, I share the impact it can make in our community when we take responsibility and fight for right relationship with others. Hope you enjoy!Follow on Instagram!Watch on YouTube!

19: Pursuing Kingdom Culture with Kenji Kuriyama

In this episode, Kenji Kuriyama shares what he learned in partnering with Jesus to create a culture that reflects the Kingdom of God at Indiana University. We talk about the challenges in wanting an already established culture become more healthy and what our role is (and isn’t). Bryce also shares some examples of when he influenced the culture of his previous jobs by staying strong in his identity and convictions. Many tryhards want to change the world. And Jesus gives us authority and power to influence the world we are in. But, one upside-down reality of the Kingdom of God is a mustard-seed of faith can move mountains. We may never see the mountains move, but God sees every act of faith and obedience and He celebrates them! We can step into cultures and make an impact, but we will be crushed if we think we can transform it all. God can and does transform cultures and we can be a part of that.Let's let go of needing to be the hero and accept our role as influencers. Not IG influencers, but people-influencers. Jesus is enough. Jesus is faithful. He is changing hearts, changing lives, and changing cultures by His Holy Spirit. And we, get to be along for the ride. 17: Applying the Gospel to Food and our Bodies with Aubrey Golbek

Trendy diets. Clean food. Bikini bodies. 👙 It’s easy to see our society values physical appearance. It is also easy to get swept up in putting too high of a value on physical appearance or health which can start to shift our theology. “I am good, when I eat good. My body is good, when I exercise.” We start creating morality behind our food choices and the way our body looks. But, God has a different perspective about how we look at food and our bodies. God wants us to have abundant life. He deemed our bodies good when He created them in His image. He wants us to love ourselves because He loves us and made a good creation. As we learn to receive His love and rest in the new, unshakeable identity He has given us, we desire to care for our bodies. In this episode, I talk with registered dietitian, Aubrey Golbek, about how to look at our bodies and food through the lens of the gospel. 🤸‍♀️ Aubrey is passionate about helping people understand how the gospel and grace impacts our everyday life, such as our relationship with food. She shares about how she felt giving her patients diets was never leading them to true freedom, so she started searching the Bible to see if God had another way. He gave her a deeper revelation of grace and she saw how God could transform and heal our thoughts about and relationship with food. So many women let the enemy determine their worth with how their body looks. 😠 I stayed in that bondage for years until Jesus set me free. I want that freedom for every woman I know. I hope this episode inspires you and encourages you to notice your thoughts about food and your body. Maybe there is more freedom God wants to give you in this area of your life. He loves you so much and wants you to experience all the joy and abundance He has for you. 😊 Enjoy this episode!Follow Aubrey on Instagram!Grace-Based Food and Body Resources

    16: Grace for your Twenties

Whether you are twenty, thirty-seven, or fifty-nine…this episode is for anyone who had expectations for the decade they are in that haven't come to fruition. I turned 29 this May and I share what I thought my twenties would be like and how they turned out to be vastly different. While I was disillusioned, the person I became through my turbulent twenties, is someone I am proud of. God met me in my mess and grew a foundation that couldn’t have been grown in “just having fun” in my twenties. I hope this episode helps you to give yourself grace for the season of life you are in and be encouraged that God is growing something beautiful through the unexpected. 13: What Were We Made For?

Purpose. Fulfillment. Identity. Topics that humans have been pondering since the beginning of time. Why am I here? What am I living for? How should I live my life? On today’s episode, I share with a group of college students what I believe we were designed to do with our lives: glorify God. Sounds overly spiritual and maybe boring at first glance, but we read a passage and see how exciting living for God’s glory can be. I share a vision God gave me when I got saved that changed how I saw the world and it took me on a wild adventure. We end with some practical steps on how to put God at the center of your life and the eternal joy that comes with it. In Part Two of this three part series, we continue Andrea’s story after her study abroad experience into the “real world” after college. This episode is for anyone who is discouraged or disappointed that their life hasn’t turned out as they planned. Andrea’s story will show you how God can (and wants to) strategically use your most messy seasons to grow rooted confidence you couldn’t find anywhere else. Enjoy!

06: Forgiveness in Action with The Liby’s

In this episode, Kovenant and Gabe share their process in learning to forgive. Their experiences reveal their mindset of how personal identity influences their choice to forgive (AKA: who I am through Christ and who I want to be determines my choice to forgive, to do the hard thing, to confront my enemy.) 🤯 We also discuss the importance of accountability with those who have hurt us. Gabe shares a painful experience with a pastor and his process of forgiving them and setting healthy boundaries to protect his heart moving forward. Kovenant also shares the confidence and self-respect she gained and as she chose to be brave, humble confront a past boss, and continuously forgive them. If you struggle to forgive (which, let’s be honest, we ALL do), this episode is for you! Hope you laugh a little, reflect a lot, and grow with us ✌️For anyone wondering what a VHS is…Matthew 6:14-15Isaiah 55:8-9Honesty by Bethel Music feat. 05: How Boundaries & Rest Combat Perfectionism with Jessica Holcomb

In this episode, one of my closest friends, Jessica, and I have an organic conversation about friendship, boundaries, sabbath, and perfectionism. We’ve been friends now for nine years, and I’ve always wondered why Jess so easily rested in God’s grace and experienced His love. When Jess was a child, her church emphasized intimacy with God and worship, which helped her to trust His love for her and rest in His grace. Even though there are many areas where Jess naturally rests in God’s love and grace, there are certain areas where she wants control and order. Jess shares how God is helping her to see her desire for control in these areas and how He’s helping her to let go and trust Him through rest. If you enjoy hearing best friends chat and share how God is sanctifying them, this episode is for you! 04: Grace-Based Goal Setting

In this episode, I share a method, created by Lara Casey of Cultivate What Matters, I discovered a few years ago that transformed my view of goal-planning. I share how I used to create goals motivated by insecurity and dependent on personal striving and how those always led me to self-disappointment and exhaustion. I gave up on goal planning once I understood the gospel, until a friend introduced me to a new way of looking at goals, growth, and sanctification. I share what makes this method different and how it is fueled by grace and dependent on Jesus and I also share my grace-based goals for 2023.
