    27. Being a Wise Woman in a War Zone with Karen Young

How do these Wise Woman skills of soulful alignment and having oil in our lamps apply when you find yourself in a war zone? Back in December I did a podcast with Karen Young, a friend and mentor who was living as a missionary in Qatar. Karen and her husband Rob are mentors for me of both saying yes to God in our lives and living together with vibrant interdependence as a husband and wife. This week in coaching Karen shared her experience with me about the war breaking out in the Middle East and being evacuated to Morocco. Her insights were powerful, and she gave permission to share it so we can all learn from her experience and reflect on what it means to be a Wise Woman in a war zone. 00:00 War Begins in Doha 02:11 Alarms and Shelter Routine 03:41 Ordered to Evacuate 07:27 Tears on the Way Out 10:34 Oil in the Lamp Resilience 16:31 Signs of the Times 21:24 Leaving Heart in Doha 23:06 Equanimity Means Crying

In this short episode Emily encourages promoting novelty in our lives to instigate change and growth. This principle, which supports neuroplasticity, promotes “consciousness integration” where we become acutely aware that we are the choosers of our life, instead of operating on autopilot like our human brains are habitually designed to do. Emily shares how little changes in her daily routine activate agency and the invigorating effect it has. She encourages the integration of novelty into daily life to stimulate the brain, which invites the exploration and discovery of new options in areas where we may be stuck.
