    Creating Space

Click here to send the host a message! What if the thing you're craving isn't escape?  What if it's space? When life feels crowded, it's easy to believe the answer is a completely different schedule, fewer responsibilities, or a break from everything you're carrying. But for most of us, walking away isn't realistic—and it may not even be what we truly need.In this episode of Live Unhurried, we're continuing the Practical Rhythms series by exploring how to create breathing room within the life you already have.Because creating space isn't always about removing something. Sometimes it's about becoming more intentional with what is already there.Together, we'll explore:• Why feeling overwhelmed often creates a desire to escape• The difference between needing a different life and needing more room within your current one• How awareness helps reveal where space is missing• Why small moments of margin matter more than we realize• The habit of filling every available gap—and what happens when we stop• How creating space helps us become more present to ourselves, our lives, and God's presenceSupport the show

When Enough Becomes Too Much (Practical Rhythms Series)

Click here to send the host a message! There is a difference between a life that is full and a life that has become too full.  The challenge is that most of us don't notice when we cross that line. Not because anything is wrong. Not because we're doing something harmful. Often, it's because the things filling our lives are meaningful, necessary, and important. But over time, even good things can begin to crowd out the margin we need to think clearly, rest well, and remain present. In this episode of Live Unhurried, we're continuing the Practical Rhythms series by exploring the hidden weight of overcrowding and the subtle ways mental and emotional overload can disguise itself as productivity, responsibility, or simply "getting through the season."Together, we'll explore:• The difference between a full life and an overfilled life• Why overload often develops gradually rather than dramatically• How the loss of margin affects clarity, presence, and capacity• The question many of us stop asking when life becomes crowded• Why awareness is often the first step toward meaningful changeIf you've ever felt like you're carrying a lot but couldn't quite explain why everything feels heavier than it should, this conversation is for you.Live Unhurried is a podcast about living with greater clarity, presence, faith, and intention in a world that constantly pushes us to move faster.Support the show

The Things We Keep Saving for Later (Practical Rhythms Series)

Click here to send the host a message! In Part 2 of the Practical Rhythms series, we step away from strategy for a more reflective conversation about presence, self-postponement, and the quiet ways we stop fully inhabiting our own lives.Inspired by the viral “Lavender Soap Theory,” this episode explores the habit many people have of saving meaningful things for “later”—the nice candle, the beautiful journal, the good dishes, the version of life we assume we’ll eventually have more time for.But beneath that idea is something deeper. Many people become incredibly skilled at carrying responsibility while slowly moving themselves into the background. Over time, rest, joy, creativity, and presence quietly disappear—not all at once, but gradually. In this episode, we explore: the emotional weight of constantly caring for others  how self-postponement becomes normalized  why many women feel disconnected from their own lives  the difference between surviving life and fully living it  what it means to stop withholding life from yourself If this episode resonated with you, consider sharing it with someone who may need the reminder that their life is meant to be lived now—not only managed for later.Live Unhurried is a podcast about living with clarity, presence, faith, and intention in a world that constantly pushes us to move faster.Support the show

When Life Feels Slightly Out of Sync (Practical Rhythms Series)

Click here to send the host a message! There are moments when nothing is technically wrong… and yet something feels slightly off.Not heavy.  Not chaotic.  Just… off.In this opening episode of the Practical Rhythms series, we begin by naming the subtle shifts that often go unnoticed—the early signs that your rhythm is no longer supporting your life in the way it once did.Because most of us don’t experience misalignment all at once.  We drift gradually...almost without realizing it.If you don’t recognize the early signals, it becomes difficult to know when something needs to shift. This episode creates space to notice what may already be present—without pressure to fix anything—so you can begin to move with greater clarity and intention. In this episode, we explore: What it feels like when your rhythm starts to shift  How internal space becomes crowded  Why simple things can begin to feel heavier than they should  The subtle loss of clarity and discernment  What it means to feel slightly disconnected from your own life A Simple Practice for this WeekAt the end of each day, take a moment to ask yourself: Where did I feel most present today?  Where did things feel slightly compressed? Ask without pressuring yourself to change anything.  Just notice. If you’ve been feeling: Slightly off, but can’t explain why  Lacking mental capacity, even when your schedule isn’t overwhelming  Less present in your day-to-day life  Like you’re moving through things instead of fully experiencing them...this episode is for you. What’s next:In Part 2, we move from awareness to visibility—looking at what is actually filling your life and how that shapes your daily experience.Support the show

The Quiet Rebellion of the Unhurried Woman - Part 2

Click here to send the host a message! In Part 1, we talked about something many women have experienced but may have never had language for—Hurried Woman Syndrome.A way of living marked by constant pressure, emotional overload, and the quiet feeling of always being behind… even when you’re doing everything you can.The question that naturally came up after recognizing the pattern was:  Is there another way to live?In this episode, we move from awareness to possibility. What does it actually look like to live unhurried—not by doing less, but by carrying life differently?  The conversation explores the internal shifts that begin to break the cycle of hurry and create space for a more grounded, present, and deliberate way of living.Because becoming unhurried isn’t about stepping away from your life…it’s about learning how to fully be present within it.In This Episode, We Explore:What it means to move from a hurried life to an unhurried oneWhy unhurried doesn’t mean unproductiveFour characteristics that define an unhurried womanThe origin story behind The Unhurried Woman and the transition to Live UnhurriedWhat it looks like to go deeper into this work in a more intentional wayA Note on What’s AheadThis episode marks the beginning of a deeper journey... What started as conversations, coaching, and small group work is now being developed into a more intentional framework for women who don’t just want to understand this way of living—but truly want to practice it.  Support the show

The Quiet Rebellion of the Unhurried Woman - Part 1

Click here to send the host a message!Years ago, a friend shared an article about Hurried Woman Syndrome. As I began to read more about it, I realized something unsettling—it wasn’t describing a rare condition.  It was describing what many of us have come to accept as "normal" life.Constant pressure.  Emotional overload.  The feeling of always being behind. In this episode, we take an honest look at the pace so many women are carrying—and the cost of living that way over time.Because what we often label as “just a busy season” or “part of life” may actually be something deeper. And more importantly… something we were never meant to sustain. This conversation is an invitation to begin noticing:Where has hurry become normal? What expectations are shaping your pace? And what might it look like to live differently? In This Episode, We Explore: What Hurried Woman Syndrome is and why it feels so familiar The layered and often invisible expectations women often carry The internal experience of hurry—and why it’s so exhaustingHow our pace impacts those we love, lead, and serve  The emotional and physical cost of living a hurried life The question that sparked a different way of living for meA Simple Reflection for This WeekWhere in your life does hurry feel normal?Take a few moments to notice—without trying to fix anything yet.Awareness is often where change begins.Coming NextIn Part 2, we’ll explore what it actually looks like to become an unhurried woman. What changes, what doesn’t, and how to begin shifting your pace in a way that is real and sustainable.  If this episode resonated with you, follow the show so you don’t miss what’s next!Support the show

The Strength You Stopped Noticing: Something for the Strong Ones

Click here to send the host a message! There’s a quiet kind of strength that doesn’t ask to be seen.It doesn’t announce itself. It doesn’t demand recognition. It simply… keeps going. In this episode, we explore a subtle but powerful idea: what happens when your resilience becomes so familiar that you stop recognizing it altogether. If you’ve ever: carried more than you expected  moved through difficult seasons without making it a big deal  or assumed that “anyone would have done the same” this conversation is for you.Because over time, many of us build our lives not around what is sustainable…but around what we’ve proven we can survive.  And that belief quietly shapes everything. This episode is an invitation to slow down long enough to see your strength clearly— not as something ordinary, but as something worth acknowledging… and caring for.Support the show

Live Unhurried Bonus: An Invitation to Rest--National Day of Rest for Black Women

Click here to send the host a message!March 10 has come to be recognized as the National Day of Rest for Black Women — a day that invites Black women to intentionally step away from constant pressure and make space for rest, restoration, and care. For generations, Black women have often carried extraordinary expectations within families, communities, and workplaces. Strength has frequently been required — and celebrated. But strength without rest eventually becomes exhaustion. In this short Live Unhurried bonus reflection, Kat pauses the usual rhythm of the podcast to acknowledge the meaning of this day and to explore the connection between rest and freedom. Listeners are invited to reflect on the pace of their own lives and consider what it might look like to choose rest not as a reward for exhaustion, but as a practice that helps sustain a healthy and whole life. The episode concludes with a brief guided reflection designed to help you pause, breathe, and consider what restoration might look like for you today.A printable reflection sheet is available in the show notes if you’d like to spend a little more time with the questions shared in the episode.Because rest is not something we earn after burnout.Rest is something that protects the life we are trying to live.Support the show

    It's Not a Storage Problem

Click here to send the host a message!“We need to stop buying containers to hold things that we shouldn’t be keeping in the first place.” -KatWhat started as an offhand comment about clutter and excess became  a deeper reflection  on how we manage the things we hold onto in our lives. In this episode of Live Unhurried, we explore the difference between organizing something and deciding whether it belongs at all. Because sometimes the issue isn’t that we need better systems or prettier containers — it’s that we’re trying to store things that were never meant to stay. From physical clutter to overthinking, outdated identities, and lingering expectations, this conversation invites you to pause and consider what may be occupying space in your life unnecessarily. An unhurried life isn’t built by managing more efficiently.  It’s built by being intentional about what we allow to remain. In this conversation we explore:Why buying containers can create the illusion of productivityThe difference between organizing something and deciding if it belongsHow overthinking can become a mental storage unitThe identities and expectations we sometimes keep long past their seasonWhy pace and capacity are connectedHow making room internally allows us to live more intentionallyThree simple questions to ask before you “buy the container”Reflection Questions:What am I organizing instead of releasing? What thought, role, or expectation no longer belongs in this season? Is this sustaining my peace — or slowing my soul?Support the show

The Pace of Peace: Listening to Your Soul

Click here to send the host a message!Life doesn’t always slow down when you need it to.In this companion episode of Live Unhurried, we continue the conversation about the pace of peace by shifting from the body to the soul. What happens when opportunities accelerate, expectations increase, and responsibilities multiply? How do you stay steady when everything around you speeds up?In this episode, we explore:The difference between external speed and internal paceHow to recognize when your soul is struggling to keep upPractical ways to protect your inner rhythm in a fast-moving worldHow to grow without living in constant hurryThis conversation builds on The Pace of Peace: Listening to Your Body and completes the broader reflection surrounding sustainable rhythms. Peace isn’t restored through overhauls — it’s restored through attention, alignment, and small, steady shifts. If you’ve ever felt successful on the outside but unsettled on the inside… If life looks full but your soul feels thin… If everything is moving quickly and you’re not sure you are…This episode will help you listen inward, recalibrate your pace, and remain grounded — even when life accelerates. Because peace isn’t found by keeping up.  It’s found by staying aligned. Support the show

The Pace of Peace: Listening to Your Body

Click here to send the host a message!Peace has a pace. And when we move faster than our bodies were designed to handle and ignore the messages it sends us, we keep ourselves from achieving the peace we desire — sometimes without realizing why.In this episode, Kat talks about how your body often notices misalignment before your mind does. Fatigue, tension, shallow breathing, irritability — these aren’t random. They’re signals. You’ll learn:How the state of your body reflects your true paceWhy ignoring small signals leads to bigger interruptionsSimple ways to build small pauses into full daysHow slowing down can help restore steadiness and peaceYour body isn’t working against you.  It’s trying to protect you.  When you learn to listen to its messages, peace becomes more accessible — not because life gets quieter, but because you stop overriding the rhythm within you.Support the show

    The Pace that Peace Requires

Click here to send the host a message!Peace isn’t a personality type.  It isn’t the result of perfect productivity.  And it doesn’t automatically arrive when life slows down. Peace has a pace.In this episode, Kat explores what it looks like when your internal rhythm is out of sync with the life you’re living. Misalignment doesn’t always show up as burnout—it can surface as restlessness, urgency, irritability, or the constant feeling of being just slightly behind. You’ll learn:Subtle signs your pace may be unsustainableHow cultural expectations shape urgencyWhy clarity requires marginThe difference between a full life and a frantic oneIf you’ve ever ended a productive day feeling unsettled, this conversation will help you recalibrate your rhythm and rediscover the steady pace that sustains peace.Because peace isn’t restored by overhauls; it’s restored by our rhythms.Support the show

    Standing in the In-Between

Click here to send the host a message! In this episode, Kat talks about what it means to stand faithfully in that waiting space.  After the vision becomes clear and we commit to walking it out, we often find ourselves in a position we don't really talk about—the in-between.The in-between can feel uncomfortable and quiet, but it is not empty. It’s often where trust is deepened, faith is refined, and peace is practiced on purpose.Whether you’re holding onto a promise, navigating uncertainty, or learning how to wait without rushing the outcome, this conversation is an invitation to slow down, release pressure, and trust God’s timing in the unfolding. In this episode, we explore:Why the in-between is real and necessaryHow God works beneath the surface before things change outwardlyPractical ways to stand faithfully without strivingHow to practice peace in the middle, not just at the endReflection Questions:Where am I currently standing in the in-between?What feels unresolved or unclear right now? What might God be forming in me during this season?Support the show

Staying Anchored When Life Gets Demanding

Click here to send the host a message!Clarity doesn’t always bring calm. After the vision becomes clear, life rarely slows down to accommodate it. Responsibilities remain. Expectations increase. And the question becomes not what we’re called to—but how we’re meant to live it out faithfully over time.In this episode, we explore what it looks like to stay anchored when life gets demanding. You’ll learn why growth often brings resistance, how drifting happens quietly, and what kinds of anchors help us remain grounded in the middle of full, complex lives.Rather than offering quick fixes or productivity hacks, this conversation invites you to return to what steadies you—especially when you’re tired, overwhelmed, or unsure. In this episode, Kat shares:Why clarity often increases pressure rather than relieving itHow growth without grounding can lead to burnoutThe subtle ways we drift in demanding seasonsFour practical anchors that can help you stay groundedReflection Questions from the Episode:Where do I feel most unsteady or reactive right now?Which anchor feels weakest in this season—and which feels most accessible? What demand am I carrying that may not actually be mine to hold?Where have I been confusing urgency with importance? If I’m honest, what am I afraid would happen if I slowed down? What do I already know to be true—but have been too busy to listen to?Support the show

Moving Through Seasons of Change with Grace

Click here to send the host a message!Change is not an interruption to life — it is life.Whether transition arrives by choice or by circumstance, most of us are always navigating some form of change. Sometimes it’s loud and unmistakable. Other times, it’s subtle and internal — a shift in priorities, capacity, or direction that’s harder to name.In this episode of Live Unhurried, Kat explores what it looks like to navigate seasons of change with grace instead of force. Rather than rushing toward clarity or pushing through discomfort, this conversation invites listeners to slow down, name the season they’re in, and find steadiness even when the path ahead is still unfolding. In this episode, we explore:Why seasons of change are a normal — and ongoing — part of lifeHow transition can quietly disrupt our sense of stability, identity, and successWhat Scripture teaches us about moving through seasons, not around themThe difference between rigid routines and anchors that provide steadinessFive practical strategies for navigating change with graceHow to trust that growth is still happening, even when progress feels hiddenThe five strategies shared include:Naming the season you’re in with honesty and compassionReleasing old measures of success that no longer fitCreating anchors that offer stability without rigidityStaying connected instead of withdrawing during tender seasonsTrusting that unseen growth is still taking placeThroughout the episode, Kat reminds us that we don’t need to rush, fix, or prove anything in order to be faithful in a season of change.Scripture references:Ecclesiastes 3:1Isaiah 43:2Philippians 1:6After listening, consider journaling or reflecting on these questions:What season am I in right now?Where might I be resisting what is?What would grace — not striving — look like this week? What anchors could help hold me steady during this season?Support the show

One of the Keys to My Unhurried Life

Did you know that you are up 80% more likely to execute a written weekly plan than a plan that is in your head?  In this episode, I explain why it's so important to me and share my "super not-so-secret" planning steps.  Planning takes discipline but gives you freedom at the same time; the more I embrace it, the more flexible I can be.  Now, when I look at my full calendar, instead of feeling overwhelmed, I feel invigorated.  I know when busy weeks are coming and have a plan for how I am going to approach them.  Doubling down on my approach to planning brought more clarity and focus to my life across the board. If you get off track, turn the page and keep going.  Planning is a discipline that develops by committing to it.3. Why Vision and Action Boards Can be a Game Changer for You

Click here to send the host a message! In this episode, I share some thoughts about the importance of vision boards.  A simple Google search yielded nearly TWO BILLION links on the subject. Why are they so popular? What is so great about them?Do they really work?Vision, by definition is the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.  A vision board, then, is a physical representation of your dreams and plans.   Their popularity has increased over the last 20 years.  They have gone from poster boards with magazine cuttings glued to them to Pinterest dream boards and now people are making vision videos.    VISION BOARDSCreating an effective vision board is definitely a "garbage in, garbage out" situation.  Which means, if the images do not resonate you or don't make sense, then spending time looking at it will not change anything for you.  Whether you have a vision board or not, having a vision for your life is critical.  How you connect to that vision is entirely up to you.  Setting clear intentions and taking deliberate action is the only way to achieve goals.  I am personally a big fan of vision boards.  I use my vision to write my goals and my goals to write my action plans.  As I take action, I learn new things which sometimes lead to my making revisions to my vision board.  I have learned that there is nothing wrong with realizing that what I thought I wanted and what I actually wanted were two different things.  My vision boards is living, breathing representation of I am becoming.    ACTION BOARDS  I have recently started to create quarterly action boards, which serve a different function.  The idea is to put together a visual representation of what I want to complete over each 90-day period.  I ask myself questions like "What do I need to complete that I have been putting off?" or "What uncomfortable action do I need to take?"  Once I have the answers to these questions, I find images that represent them and create a rolling action board.  When I review and update each 30 days, I am celebrating what I am able to check off and completely committed to the next thing. You are becoming who you are going to be this time next year RIGHT NOW.  Do you know what you look like? How you feel? Where you are? What you’re doing?  What about who you are spending time with and the conversations you are having?  These are the types of questions that you should answer as you create your vision board.  Once you have answered them, you can start living into that life.Join me for a Vision or Action Board Workshop! Are you ready to create your vision board for 2022 and beyond? One Word for 2022

Click here to send the host a message! It's the time of the year that everyone starts to focus more on what they are planning to do in the next on.  You do not have to look hard to find information about New Year's resolutions, goal setting, and making plans for 2022 right now.  For years, I would write lists of my resolutions or goals for each area of my life.  I found that I would stay on track with some things but not others--it was a rollercoaster of ups and downs.   My first time around with having a "word of the year" was the same--up and down.  Until  five years ago,  I had an opportunity to hear one of the authors of One Word That Will Change Your Life and my relationship with the practice totally changed.  In this episode, I am going to talk about having a word of the year practice--specifically how I approach it, what I have gained from it and why I think you should start.Find out more about the One Word community and the challenge that begins on December 27th clicking here:  One Word ChallengeI recommend children's version; I shared it with elementary-age students and was amazed at how much they loved the concept.  It's called One Word for Kids:  A Great Way to Have the Best Year Ever!PRE-SALE FOR LISTENERS!To order a custom candle from This Little Light that features your word of the year, click here and place your order by December 31st to receive an exclusive discount and free shipping! How to Win the Last 30 Days of 2021

Click here to send the host a message! The last 30 days of 2021 are here—are you ready to make them your best?  How are you going to set intention? What action will you take to create positive momentum to carry you into 2022?  One of my favorite definitions of unhurried is deliberate.  I do not know if there is a better time to focus on deliberate intention setting and taking progressive action than now.   John Maxwell says, “Consistency compounds.” This statement is true for both good and not-so-good habits.  If you set clear intention for the rest of this month, combine it with progressive action and you will reap the benefits of the compound effect of doing so.  In this episode, I give you two simple statements to help you set intention and identify the daily action that you need to take.Over the next 30 days, I choose to be __________________.The one thing that I can FULLY commit to doing that will help me become ________________ is ____________________________________________.These two statements will help you set yourself up to win IF you act on them.  The next thing is to KNOW YOUR WHY, which is critical--because it is the thing that will keep you moving when you want to stop.  "People don't burn out and give up because of what they are doing; they burn out and give up because they forgot why they are doing it."   I highly recommend that you watch the Dean Graziosi video linked below or search for a "7 Levels Deep" exercise on your own to find the why behind your why.     Remember--go for the micro-wins with consistency for the next 30 days.  It will propel you into 2022 with purpose and before you know it, the BIG wins that you are going after will be yours.Know Your Why--Dean Graziosi Video LinkFollow me on Instagram: https://instagram.com/theunhurriedwomanVisit www.thislittlelightcandles.net your source for all-natural, palm wax candles.Support the show
