Today, my dad went out and had a gathering with his friends. 聚餐 means gathering.  Meaning having a meal together (When) they have a meal together, usually they would drink. And the alcohol they drink usually is 白酒. What is 白酒? 白 is white, 酒 is wine，don't tell me 白酒 is white wine？ Is it the white wine made with grapes that we're talking about? No. Actually, 白酒 refers to Chinese wine (Chinese Baijiu), a *wine that is specifically Chinese, It is not made with grapes but sorghum. Is 白酒 is actually sorghum liquor (kaoliang liquor) For this kind of liquor, the alcohol content is quite high. The low ones would be about 30%.  The most common alcohol content is 40 plus %, or 50 plus %. The high ones could reach 60 plus %. When people drink they would use a special calculation unit: tael and catty. One catty equals half a kilogram (kg). So, one catty equals half a kilogram.  What about tael? One catty equals 10 taels. So, catty is a smaller unit of calculation. Usually, people would say, 'I can drink 5 taels', 'I can drink 1 catty' to show how much they can drink. Or people would say, 'I've had 3 taels already; can't drink anymore or it's too much'. Ah? This guy sounds like he might not be able to drink a lot, just like me. So, dim sum refers to something sweet. On the other hand,  in Southern China, dim sum refers to what we hear all the time, dim sum. This kind of dim sum is various, consisting of different types. Under normal circumstances, people could choose to have it in the morning or in the afternoon. Some elders could spend their whole morning at the dim sum places, reading newspapers while having tea, and having dim sum at the same time. Meanwhile, they would chat with their friends, so having dim sum is also a way of their leisure. What are the common dim sum types? They could be steamed. Also (they) could be fried. For steamed dim sum, shumai is relatively common. Shumai is a kind of dim sum made with pork. Also, har gow is a kind of small dumplings made with shrimps. She told me she had to start school at 8 in the morning. The studying pauses at 11:30 *in the afternoon, and started having lunch. In the evening, starting around 6, she needs to start the self-studies. 自习 means self-studies, studying by oneself. So, she needs to decide by herself what to study during those 4 hours.
