Gus Ramsey: ESPN and Full Sail University
In 2018, Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida launched the Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting. Billed as the only Bachelor's program in the country dedicated specifically to sportscasting, the Dan Patrick School has placed hundreds of students in the sports media industry, with graduates working in dozens of local markets plus places like CBS, ESPN, and FOX. Gus Ramsey has been the Program Director of the degree since day one. A graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park and former producer at Orlando's WESH-TV, Gus spent two decades as an Emmy-winning producer at ESPN, helming the iconic SportsCenter shows that were appointment television. He worked side by side with notables like Keith Olbermann, Rich Eisen, Craig Kilborn, Bob Ley, and Dan Patrick himself, shaping the feel and tone of ESPN's most prominent studio shows. Gus recently announced his retirement from Full Sail, but before he heads off to the mountains of North Carolina, he joins the podcast to share our common memories of 1990's Orlando and early 2000's Bristol, offer insight into the current state of the industry, and describe the challenges of starting a degree program from scratch.

Sean Salisbury: QB, Broadcaster, Coach
I met Sean Salisbury almost three decades ago in Bristol, Connecticut when he was a football analyst at ESPN. Sean was a quarterback in the NFL and CFL for over ten years who transitioned to television, pioneering the X-and-O breakdown style of analysis that is omnipresent today. He's been very successful in radio, including 8 years in morning drive in Houston, and now has two podcast projects: "Unpaved," daily on YouTube, and "The Findable Podcast," which focuses on golf. He's an entrepreneur, a QB coach, a counselor, and someone whose many opinions are informed by homework. This episode covers everything from legacy media to new media to college recruiting to NIL to Sean's real passion: golf.

You Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You: Tour Veteran Jay Delsing
Jay Delsing is a PGA Tour veteran, award-winning broadcaster, and now a published author. His new book, "You Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You," is a rollicking compilation of stories from his youth in St. Louis, his stellar college career at UCLA, and his time as a pro. Jay was the fourth of five children, the son of a major league baseball player. When his dad was "at work," as he puts it, Jay would hop the fence at the now-defunct North Shore Country Club to search for golf balls. A few short years later, he was playing for the Bruins under legendary golf coach Eddie Merrins, teeing it up at Bel-Air with Sean Connery, and preparing for a professional career that would place him toe-to-toe with greats like Johnny Miller, Hale Irwin, and Andy North. We talk about his playing career, his motivation to write a book, and his views on current events, like Brooks Koepka's return to the PGA Tour and the future of LIV Golf.

Family Ties: Tracey Watson
My wife Tracey and I first met at the old Orlando Arena, while both working for the Magic. It was her first day as a marketing intern, and I was a sideline reporter for the Magic Radio Network. We couldn't have imagined what would follow over the next 28 years. A move to Connecticut for my dream job at ESPN, followed by an unexpected return to Florida for yet another gig, then a long stretch at Golf Channel that kept me on the road for weeks at a time, and now a new chapter for us as empty nesters where she's got the 9 to 5 and I'm building a business as a freelancer. Tracey has been front and center for all of it and remembers much more than I do. We discuss Vince Carter, the Backstreet Boys, why Boise is one of the best-kept secrets in North America, how the Magic franchise is inextricably tied to our life together, how we created wanderlust in our two grown kids, and how this third act has become an opportunity for learning. A little inside baseball? Sure. But it's a really fun conversation.

Shane Robichaud, President, PopStroke Greens
With 18 stores around the country and more in the pipeline, PopStroke is a tech-heavy, elevated mini-golf experience that goes way beyond the days of windmills and dinosaurs. Each location features 36 holes of custom-designed miniature golf, plus a full kitchen, outdoor activities, event space, and more. As President of Greens for PopStroke, Shane Robichaud works with a design and build team to create unique layouts at each new venue. PopStroke just opened a second location in Orlando in the summer of 2025, with plans for a third location in 2026 and more Florida venues in the works. Shane tells me how he went from engineering student at Georgia Tech to working in golf course design with Tom Fazio, and eventually to PopStroke.

Behind The Magic, with Dante Marchitelli
The "Media Credentials" podcast is filled with stories and people from the Orlando Magic, my hometown NBA team and the first place I worked after college. Dante Marchitelli's path to the Magic was very similar to mine, in that he landed an internship in broadcasting that developed into a full-time role. The main difference between us? He never left. For over 25 years, Dante has been a fixture as a Magic producer and broadcaster on radio, television, and digital. He shares his arrival in Orlando from Massachusetts by way of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1998, when the NBA was under threat of a lockout. From that uncertainty to meeting his future wife and raising a family in Central Florida, Dante's got stories. Plus, we look ahead to the coming NBA season, when the Magic will face rising expectations.

David Steele, Voice of the Orlando Magic
David Steele was one of the very first employees of the Orlando Magic and now one of the longest tenured announcers in the NBA. He was the Magic's first radio announcer starting in 1989, eventually moving to television in 1998, where he currently works alongside former Magic player Jeff Turner. Before coming to Orlando, David served as the play-by-play voice of the Florida Gators and worked at local TV stations in the Southeast. His numerous accolades include induction into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame in 2019, when he joined a roster that includes Shaquille O'Neal, Penny Hardaway, and Dwight Howard. He's an ambassador for the franchise and a role model to many -- myself included.

He's Been Everywhere, Man: Jeff Phillips, News/Sports Production Vet
Jeff Phillips and I worked together at ESPN for a brief spell in the 1990s, and while his career took more of a hard news direction, we have stayed in touch via social media. Never shy about his opinions -- and with a wealth of experience in local and national news organizations -- I knew he would be a wheelhouse guest for the pod. We cover his St. Louis Cardinals fandom, his thoughts on how sports coverage is changing, and his pivot away from broadcast media. We also take hard left turns into "fake news," local TV and radio, and the importance of maintaining meaningful connections to stay afloat in this industry.

Brendan Sweeney, Director of Golf Media Relations & Player Development, French Lick Resort
My guest on this episode has a history in media that includes a move to Orlando in the early days of Golf Channel and Universal Studios, but his current path is something else entirely. Brendan Sweeney is the Director of Golf Media Relations and Player Development at the French Lick Resort in Indiana, home of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship. His job is multifaceted, but you can call him a PR guy and builder of relationships. He owes his passion for golf to his early days in Chicago, where he caddied at famed Medinah Country Club, home to multiple majors and Ryder Cups. We talk Medinah, French Lick, the direction of golf, the influence of "influencers," and the power of storytelling.

A Pro's Pro: David Moulton
My guest on the podcast is a man who wears many hats. David Moulton is a sports talk radio host, play-by-play guy, spotter for NCAA and NFL football games, and a veteran in the trenches of sports media. He co-hosts a syndicated show, "Miller and Moulton," which airs in multiple markets in the Southeast. I've been a guest on their show many times, usually during golf's major championships, and I was eager to return the favor. This conversation was not limited to golf. We talk about how to watch a football game, the future of the Tampa Bay Rays, the future of our industry, and how Hank Aaron jump-started David's career.

Grills and Greens: Jeff Tracy, Golf Media Veteran and Cowboy Cook
Ask Jeff Tracy what he does for a living, and prepare to be there a while. A veteran of radio, TV, and podcasting, Jeff is a man of many interests, including cooking barbeque and talking golf. He's created multiple syndicated radio programs and has appeared on countless television shows as a BBQ chef and golf expert. His podcast, "Grilling At The Green," combines those two passions, and I was lucky enough to be a guest. Was happy to return the favor as we discuss his diverse career, trends in media, and the state of our favorite game.

Nick Sherburne, Co-Founder, Club Champion
Nick Sherburne is the co-founder of Club Champion, the industry leader in golf club fitting centers with over 100 locations nationwide. While a teenager in Chicago, Nick took a job at famed Cog Hill and was there when the PGA Tour made its annual stop. He was fascinated by the manufacturers' tour fitting trailers and wondered if that level of technology and service could be made available to the recreational player. In this episode, we trace the history of his business and the philosophy that drives him, plus tackle some big picture topics in golf, including LIV, TGL, and the post-pandemic golf boom. Not precisely a "sports media" topic, but a fascinating discussion of the golf business and the power of staying true to a dream.

Moving from sports to local TV news in Hartford, Mike found himself at a career crossroads. After taking a hard look at his skills and interests and doing some networking, Mike took the leap in 2025 with a new role as Senior Director of Communications for RFK Racing, the powerhouse NASCAR team founded by the legendary Jack Roush. In this episode, we discuss the process of researching and writing the books, plus touch on the club's relationship with the city of Augusta and how the current corps of caddies are still making an impact.

The book is a joint venture with sports psychologist Dr. Curt Ickes. Geared towards junior players but valuable to all, Gary's book is a welcome addition to the golf instruction canon.

Hither And Yon: Chris Yon, Camera Operator, Renaissance Man
NYC-based Chris Yon is a versatile, experienced camera operator with a long list of clients -- NBC, CBS, FOX, the MLB Network, plus local broadcasts of the Yankees and Mets. His interest in media started on the playground, where he and a buddy would deliver mock newscasts with the latest elementary school gossip and occasionally deliver play-by-play for kickball games. We worked together for six years in the Orlando studio at Golf Channel, where his positive attitude (and savage skill at impersonating our colleagues) made long studio days much more palatable. In this episode, Chris outlines his path from Pittsfield, Massachusetts to the big leagues, and how his willingness to learn new skills opened all kinds of doors. Chris Yon is the epitome of "always say yes."

Field of Dreams: Chris Datres, Sports TV Field Producer, High School Umpire and Referee
The word "producer" has many different meanings in sports media. ESPN and Golf Channel veteran Chris Datres has worn many hats as a highlight producer, graphics producer, and field producer — the last of which means he's the eyes and ears for news on the road. He's also worn many chest protectors and whistles as a longtime high school baseball umpire and basketball referee. We cover his beginnings in Harrisburg, PA, his start in the industry, and our shared paths at both ESPN and Golf Channel, including a bizarre night during the last PGA Tour event at Walt Disney World in 2012. In addition to being a reliable and willing golf partner, Chris is a frequent co-host on "Making The Cut, with Whit Watson" on Orlando's 96.9 The Game.

Golf Broadcaster Lisa Cornwell: The Women's Game, The Men's Game, The Mental Game
Longtime golf announcer Lisa Cornwell joins the podcast with thoughts on the current state of the professional game -- which, she says, is a very different answer between the women and the men. A former pupil of David Leadbetter, Lisa won the Arkansas Women's State Championship four times, and played college golf with an eye towards a pro career. We trace her pivot from playing golf to broadcasting the game, and how mental health played a role in that move. Some important topics here that I haven't discussed much in previous episodes.

As an aspiring writer myself, I was interested in hearing about Dave's process in writing. In this episode, we talk about his background as a student announcer at Yale, his journey through the minors, and the Lightning's three Stanley Cup wins and our mutual friend Paul Kennedy. This was one of my favorite conversations since the start of the podcast.

Super Bowl Preview and Silly Prop Bets, with Todd Wright
Todd Wright is one of my oldest friends in the business. He's known for "All Night with Todd Wright," a national show on ESPN Radio that he started in 1996. He was also on nationwide on Sporting News Radio, and made frequent appearances on local radio in Tampa, where he still lives. We worked together for several years at the old Sun Sports, where Todd was a panelist on our talk shows. Now in semi-retirement from radio, Todd runs the Todd Wright Tour, a wildly successful amateur golf series in the Tampa Bay area, and hosts a couple of podcasts, including one dedicated to fantasy football. As someone with very little background in the NFL, I rely on Todd for all of my pro football questions. Hence, our Super Bowl preview — a mix of serious football talk and speculation on stupid prop bets. And for all those search engines out there: Taylor Swift.

Gary Christian: A Life In Golf
For an Englishman, Gary Christian has an All-American story. Coming from a working class background in Britain, he learned to play golf with a set of cut-down, hickory-shafted clubs. A successful amateur career led to a scholarship at a junior college in Alabama, where he played well enough to transfer to Auburn. Turning pro at the age of 28, he played minitours all over the US, eventually graduating to what is now the Korn Ferry Tour. There, he won twice before earning his PGA Tour card for the first time at the age of 40. When his playing career was cut short due to injury, he began a second act as a golf commentator. He's now in a transitional phase of his career, something that is imminently relatable. Our topics included career pivots, 'Welcome to Wrexham,' and what it's like to be paired with Tiger Woods.

Florida Man: Television's Paul Kennedy
In 1988, a new regional sports network was launched in Tallahassee, Florida. He was on the mic when the Orlando Magic played their first game; same for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He's done play-by-play for the Miami Marlins and hosted talk shows for the Miami Dolphins. There are few, if any, pro teams or major colleges in Florida that haven't welcomed Paul into the broadcast booth. In this episode, we dive into his packed resume' and follow his road to broadcasting, plus share some unique experiences outside the Sunshine State. We also hear about his varied interests outside of sports media.

Jerry is a good friend, and this was a great interview.

Ron Sirak, Journalist
If it happened in golf in the last 40 years, Ron Sirak probably saw it, and wrote about it. Dave Stevens: Sports Reporter, Motivational Speaker, Teacher, Disability Advocate
My guest on this episode is a 7-time Emmy winner as a sports journalist. A three sport star in high school, he played college football and later had a brief stint in minor league baseball. Today, he teaches media and production at the college level while also hosting a nationally syndicated podcast and running youth sports camps, and is prominently featured in a recent Netflix documentary. By any measure, that's a full life. Now, what if I told you he was born without legs? Dave Stevens is my guest on Media Credentials.
