Ep. 100 | Is Purity Really Possible?
Is purity really possible, or is it a battle we are doomed to lose? In this meditation, Fr Gavan addresses one of the hardest struggles in the Christian life: chastity. He explains why sins against purity are uniquely difficult, what it means to avoid the occasions of sin, and why God's grace is not optional but essential in this particular fight. Drawing on the wisdom of Our Lady and the Book of Wisdom, he offers a clear and honest word of hope: purity is not only possible, it is worth every bit of the struggle.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 100Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 99 | Why Sunday Mass Changes Everything
Do you think of Sunday Mass as an obligation to fulfil, or as something far more important than that? In this meditation, Fr Gavan unpacks what the Catechism actually says about the Sunday Eucharist: that it is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice, a testimony of belonging to Christ and his Church, and the sacred beat that gives rhythm and meaning to the whole week. A reminder that Sunday Mass is not just a duty but a gift, one that orients our entire lives.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 99Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. EP. 98 | The Books Every Catholic Should Read
Do you know you should be reading more, but never quite get started? In this meditation, Fr Gavan draws on Pope Leo's recent call to read, exploring how the right books can help us think more clearly, connect more deeply with others, and grow closer to God. He walks through which books to prioritise, from the Gospels to the great spiritual classics, and why some books can actually damage our faith. A simple and practical encouragement to build a reading habit that feeds your soul, ten minutes at a time.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 98Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 97 | The Mental Diet Starving Your Soul
Are you living on a diet of headlines and quick scrolls? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on Pope Leo's recent call to read more books, and the three reasons behind it. Reading nourishes the mind, lets us meet others through their stories, and forms the heart through spiritual writing. A simple invitation to start feeding the mind properly, one chapter at a time.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 97Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 96 | Why You Can't Find Peace
When you watch the news, do the wars in the world feel oddly familiar inside you? In this episode, Fr Gavan traces the conflicts we see around us back to the smaller war within each human heart, the pull of competing desires that leaves us divided against ourselves. Drawing on Scripture and the wisdom of Augustine and Aquinas, he shows that the peace Christ gives is not a feeling we can manufacture but a gift that orders the soul, so love of God comes first and everything else falls into its proper place. If your inner life feels at war, this is an invitation to ask Christ for the peace only he can give, and to begin carrying it to the people around you.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 96Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 95 | Why Mary Is the Sign of Hope
Do you ever feel like the hard season you're in will never end? In this episode, Fr Gavan turns to Our Lady as the great sign of hope the Church gives us, especially in May. Drawing on the Song of Songs and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux's famous homily, he shows why Mary is called the Morning Star, and why turning to her is the right move when life feels like a storm. Take this as an invitation to give Mary a little more of your time this month, and to let her point you toward the dawn.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 95Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 94 | What Are We Made For?
Have you ever noticed that the most beautiful moments in life carry a strange ache with them? In this meditation, Fr Gavan draws on Saint Augustine, Teresa of Avila, Saint Paul, and the Irish poet Paul Pierce to explain why the joys of this life are meant to make us a little homesick for heaven. Eastertide, he shows, is a season of foretastes: spring, the people we love, and above all the Eucharist are small sneak previews of a joy that no eye has seen and no heart has yet conceived. A simple invitation to let the beauty around you point you home.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 94Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 93 | Why Holiness Feels So Hard
Why do we keep doing the very things we don't want to do? Saint Paul asked the same question, and so does every one of us. In this meditation, Fr Gavan explores the Church's answer: original sin, the seed that tilts us toward what we most regret. Drawing on Paul's letter to the Romans, a striking scene from The Thin Red Line, and the hidden struggles of Peter, Augustine, Jerome, Teresa of Avila, and Francis de Sales (who once dug his fingernails into the underside of a desk to stay calm), he offers three pieces of good news: we can improve, every saint fought the same fight, and our very struggle is what teaches us humility. A gentle reminder that holiness is always hard won, and that your struggle is not a sign something is wrong with you. It is the path.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 93Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 92 | Living Charity in Daily Life
Do you ever think about what it’s like for other people to be around you? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the life of the apostles after the Resurrection, and how they lived closely together, trying to recreate something of the presence of Christ among them. From this, he draws a simple and practical question: how do we make life better for the people around us? Looking at the example of Christ, he points to four concrete ways we can do this: giving our time, showing affection, being considerate in how we speak and act, and bringing a spirit of cheerfulness into our daily interactions. These are simple things, but they make a real difference. If you want to grow in charity in a practical way, this is an invitation to begin with what is right in front of you.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 92Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 91 | Jesus Is Calling You (Will You Follow?)
Do you ever feel like following God is something you have to do, rather than something you freely choose? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the meaning of Easter as a new creation, and what it means to live with the “glorious freedom of the children of God.” God does not force us. He does not want slaves or people acting out of fear, but sons and daughters who choose Him freely. Drawing on the parable of the talents, he shows that this freedom comes with responsibility. Each of us has been given something, and the question is what we are doing with it. Are we using what God has given us, or are we holding back? If you’ve ever struggled to see your faith as something freely chosen rather than imposed, this is an invitation to rediscover that freedom, and to begin using it well.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 91Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 90 | Don’t Waste Holy Week: 7 Ways to Go Deeper
Do you ever reach the end of Holy Week and feel like you missed it? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on a quiet mistake many of us make: treating Holy Week as something to observe rather than something to enter. But this week is not just a remembrance of past events. Through the liturgy, what Christ did is made present now—and we are invited to participate in it. He shows how distraction, routine, or keeping a distance can leave us unchanged, while even small, intentional steps can draw us into the heart of the mystery. Holy Week is not meant to pass us by. It is meant to transform us. If you want this year to be different, this is an invitation to stop watching from the sidelines, step closer to Jesus, and live this Holy Week more deeply.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 90Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 89 | The Lie of "I'll Start Tomorrow"
Do you ever tell yourself you’ll change tomorrow? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the quiet lie that keeps so many of us stuck: the belief that we can delay conversion and begin again later. But the spiritual life doesn’t happen in the future. It happens now. Drawing on a simple story and the Gospel, he shows how perfectionism and discouragement can lead us to give up, while delay keeps us from ever truly beginning. God is not waiting for a perfect moment. He is offering grace in this moment. If you’ve been putting things off or feel like you’ve failed, this is an invitation to stop waiting, start again, and respond to God today.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 89Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 88 | Embracing Jesus' Hardest Teaching
Do you find it difficult to forgive those who have hurt you? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on Jesus’ teaching that we must forgive not seven times but seventy-seven times. Through the parable of the unforgiving servant, he shows how easily we forget the immense mercy God has shown us and how quickly we refuse that same mercy to others. When we remember the debt God has forgiven in our own lives, forgiveness becomes not just a duty but a path to becoming more like Him. Learning to forgive is one of the clearest ways we imitate the mercy of God.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 88Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 87 | Learning to Overcome Temptation
Why does God allow us to experience temptation? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the Gospel account of Jesus being led into the wilderness and tempted by the devil. By allowing Himself to face temptation, Christ shows us both His solidarity with our weakness and the path to overcoming it. Temptation itself is not sin, but it reveals the desires that pull at our hearts and the areas where we need God’s help. As we fast, pray, and detach ourselves from unhealthy desires, we learn to reject temptation quickly and remember that God has greater things in store for us.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 87Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 86 | Why Your Prayer Feels Empty
Why does prayer sometimes feel empty, like your words go nowhere and your heart feels untouched? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the experience of dryness in prayer and why it does not mean you are failing or that God is distant. Drawing on the wisdom of the spiritual tradition, he shows how these seasons can purify love, deepen trust, and teach us to seek God for who He is rather than for the feelings He gives. Ep. 85 | The God You Actually Serve
What does real conversion actually look like? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the story of the prodigal son and the call to return not just outwardly, but with the heart. As Lent invites us to prayer, fasting, and penance, he reminds us that God is not interested in cosmetic change or external gestures, but in a radical reorientation of our deepest desires. Drawing on the words of the prophet Joel and the witness of St Augustine, this reflection asks a simple but searching question: where is your heart pointed? A gentle invitation to turn back to the Father, and allow your restless heart to find its rest in Him.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 85Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 84 | What God Really Wants in Lent
Why does Lent feel so heavy? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the fear many of us feel when we approach fasting, sacrifice, and self-denial — and the deeper question behind it all: why would God want us to suffer? Drawing on the message of Our Lady of Lourdes and the call to “penance, penance, penance,” he explains how sacrifice becomes a kind of prayer made not only with words, but with the body. Through ordinary daily duties — even the small crosses we resist — we learn what it means to take up our cross and follow Christ, and how true conversion begins little by little.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 84Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 83 | You Are Entertaining Your Mind to Death
What is constant entertainment doing to your soul? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the spiritual danger of always seeking distraction and how it can quietly weaken our ability to think clearly, choose wisely, and listen to God. Drawing on the story of Herod and the deadly power of spectacle, he shows how a life filled with noise can dull the conscience and make us vulnerable to temptation. A meditation on guarding the mind, recovering silence, and learning again how to live with wisdom in a world that never stops scrolling.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 83Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 82 | How to Help a Hopeless World
What does Jesus mean when He says, “You are the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on how ordinary Christians are called to bring preservation and meaning to everyday life through their example — at school, at work, at home, and among friends. He also reflects on the power of a single word of faith spoken at the right moment: a light offered to someone in darkness. A meditation on living with quiet courage, speaking with charity, and asking Jesus to make us salt and light in the world.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 82Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 81 | Strength That Overcomes the World
What does it really mean to be strong? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the virtue of fortitude and the quiet strength needed to endure the trials of ordinary life. True strength is not about impressing others or relying on enthusiasm alone, but about remaining faithful through what is difficult, boring, or disappointing. Drawing on the hidden life of Jesus and the steady example of Our Lady and Saint Joseph, this reflection invites us to grow in an inner strength that allows God to work through us. Ep. 80 | The Spiritual Danger of Distraction
Are you finding it harder to be present with God? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the subtle spiritual danger of distraction and how easily our attention can be pulled away from what truly matters. What begins as harmless curiosity can quietly fragment our time, our prayer, and our capacity to listen. Drawing on Scripture and the call to say “Here I am, Lord” in each moment, this reflection invites us to examine how we use our attention and how learning to be present transforms ordinary time into an offering to God.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 80Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 79 | Building Friendships That Last
In this compilation episode, Fr Gavan reflects on the nature of true friendship and the quiet ways it shapes the soul. Drawing on both human wisdom and Christian faith, he invites us to consider friendship not as something accidental or based on feeling alone, but as a calling rooted in virtue, patience, and love of the good. Through these reflections, we are encouraged to examine how we relate to others, how friendship forms us over time, and how faithful relationships can gently lead us closer to God. Ep. 78 | Christmas Is Too Big for One Day
It’s easy to feel that Christmas has already passed us by — but the Church insists otherwise. In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the Christmas Octave and the wisdom of lingering with a mystery too large for a single day. Drawing on Our Lady’s quiet pondering of the events of Bethlehem, he invites us to let the visible beauty of Christmas lift us toward the invisible love of God Himself. As decorations fade and routines return, this reflection encourages us not to rush past Christmas, but to stay with it long enough for it to truly change us.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 78Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 77 | You Were Loved Into Existence
Because the Father gave us His Son, everything about who we are is changed. In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects with St John the Evangelist on the astonishing truth that we are not merely called children of God — we truly are. Knowing that we are loved by the Father before we do anything transforms how we live, what we desire, and where we seek fulfilment. Ep. 76 | Why Christmas Is Not Sentimental
Christmas brings us face to face with tenderness, beauty, and joy — and then, almost without warning, the Church places before us the martyrdom of St Stephen. In this meditation, Fr Gavn reflects on why the Church does this so deliberately: to remind us that the Child in the manger and the man on the Cross are one and the same. Stephen shows us that real love is never sentimental, but always costs something, and that following Christ means learning to imitate what we worship. This reflection invites us to let our Christmas joy be purified and deepened into a love willing to give itself completely.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 76Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 75 | Preparing Your Heart to Meet Jesus
What does it mean to call Jesus “Emmanuel — God with us”? In this final O Antiphon, Fr Gavan reflects on the climax of Advent’s longing: the God who is no longer distant in majesty or hidden in prophecy, but who comes to dwell with us as a tiny child. Drawing on Isaiah’s prophecy, the acrostic ero cras — “I will be with you tomorrow” — and the tender way God chooses to win our hearts, we discover that the whole purpose of the Incarnation is intimacy. As Christmas dawns, this meditation invites us to welcome the Lord who calls Himself our God and who comes not to overwhelm us, but to be with us and to save us. 🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 72Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 74 | Ask Jesus to Rebuild What Is Broken
What does it mean to call Jesus the “Cornerstone” and “King of the Nations”? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on O Rex Gentium, the antiphon that presents Christ as the stone rejected by the builders yet chosen to anchor all humanity. Drawing on the ancient role of the cornerstone, St Paul’s teaching on the unity of Jew and Gentile, and our own frailty as creatures formed from dust, he shows how Christ alone holds the human family together. In this prayer, we ask the Lord who made us — and now remakes us — to come and save mankind, restoring us into a new creation founded on Himself.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 72Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 73 | Prayer of Hope in Winter’s Darkness
What does it mean to call Jesus the “Dayspring” or rising sun? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on O Oriens, the antiphon that celebrates Christ as the splendor of eternal light who breaks into our darkness. Drawing on Malachi’s prophecy of the “sun of righteousness,” the turning point of the winter solstice, and the early Christian practice of praying toward the East, he shows how the light of Christ promises that our winters are never final. Whether the darkness we face belongs to the world or to our own hearts, this prayer invites the Lord to shine upon us and restore hope: “Come and enlighten those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death.”🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 72Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. What does it mean to call Jesus the “Key of David”? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on O Clavis David, the antiphon that proclaims Christ as the one who opens what no one can shut and shuts what no one can open. Drawing on Isaiah’s prophecy, the image of the key laid upon the shoulder, and the deep symbolism of midwinter’s darkness, we discover how Christ alone can unlock the prisons within our own hearts. As the days slowly begin to lengthen, this antiphon invites us to ask the Lord to bring light into the shadows of our souls and to lead us out of darkness into His freedom.🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 72Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. What does it mean to call Jesus the “Root of Jesse”? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the O Antiphon O Radix Jesse, the promise that from a dead royal line a new shoot would spring forth — the Messiah born for all peoples. Drawing on Isaiah’s prophecies, the silence of kings before Christ, and the longing of the nations symbolised in the Magi, we discover that the Child in the manger comes not only for Israel but for every man and woman who has ever lived. As Christmas draws closer, this antiphon stirs in us a longing for the One who delivers us from evil — and we pray with renewed urgency: “Come to deliver us; do not delay.”🔴 THIS SERIESMeditations | Ep. 71Meditations is a weekly podcast with Fr Gavan Jennings produced by Called to More. Ep. 70 | Learn to Feel God’s Presence
What kind of God draws near to us at Christmas? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the O Antiphon O Adonai — “O Lord” — the ancient title that reveals the Child of Bethlehem as the same God who spoke to Moses from the burning bush. Standing before the holiness of Sinai, Israel trembled at God’s power, yet in the manger that same majesty becomes small enough to hold in our arms. What are you longing for this Advent? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the first of the O Antiphons, O Sapientia — “O Wisdom.” In this brief invocation prayed each evening before Christmas, the Church reveals Christ as the eternal Logos who orders all things “mightily and sweetly,” even in the hidden smallness of the Child in the manger. What made Mary’s heart overflow with joy? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the Magnificat — Our Lady’s song of praise after the Annunciation. Ep. 66 | From Doubt to Blessing (The Song of Zechariah)
In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the Benedictus – Zechariah’s hymn of praise after the birth of John the Baptist. Once struck silent, Zechariah’s voice returns in thanksgiving, blessing God for His faithfulness through generations. Fr Gavan explores how this canticle invites us to see ourselves within that same living tradition — heirs of faith, called to prepare the way for Christ in our own lives. Like John, we are each given a unique mission: to bring light to others and to serve God without fear.🔴 ABOUT USCalled to More is a Catholic not-for-profit media apostolate based in Ireland.
