Vadim Kruglov: “Burning Man Murder”丨MURDERISH Ep. 215
Every August, a city of 70,000 rises from the desolate salt desert of northwest Nevada. No money, no corporate sponsors, no permanent walls. Its citizens live by a strict code: Radical inclusion. Decommodification. Leave no trace. The Burning Man Project is built on the premise that humanity, when stripped of societal rules, will default to love and art. But that isn’t always the case. Saturday night. August 30th, 2025. Inside a red-and-white canvas tent on the festival’s fringes, 37-year-old Vadim Kruglov is trapped. A heavy kitchen knife strikes. A single, fatal jab to the throat. Vadim’s first-ever Burning Man …would be his last. At 9:15 p.m., a woman in a red dress flagged down one of the sheriff department’s roaming patrols. Panicked and out-of-breath, she managed to get out a few words: “There is a man bleeding out in my tent. He might be dead. I won’t touch him.” By morning, one of the guiding principles of Burning Man, leave no trace, proved to be investigators’ worst nightmare. The crime scene, the witnesses, and the killer didn’t just scatter in the wind, the entire city vanished from the face of the Earth. Follow Jami @JamiOnAir on Instagram and TikTok. Michele MacNeill: “A Prescription for Betrayal”丨MURDERISH Ep. 214
Imagine you’re lying in bed recuperating after a series of extensive cosmetic surgeries. Every inch of your face hurts from a full facelift, your breathing is strained, and you drift in and out of consciousness. As if you weren’t already vulnerable enough, recovery from eyelid surgery involves having your eyes taped shut for about 10 days. In April 2007 that was the exact situation 51-year-old Michele MacNeill found herself in. The Utah mother of eight was prescribed an array of sedating prescription pills to treat her pain and swelling. Dominic Russo & Davion Flanagan: "The Crash (Netflix)" | MURDERISH Mini Ep. 001
In July 2022, 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla drove her car into a brick building at nearly 100 miles per hour with her boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan inside. Both of Mackenzie’s passengers were killed on impact, but she survived. In 2026 Netflix released “The Crash,” a documentary detailing the case. An investigation cast suspicion over what really happened in the early morning hours when the fatal crash occurred. Was it a tragic accident, or did Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally torpedo her car into a building? Were there unknown variables like her car brakes malfunctioning or a medical emergency? From 2019 to 2022, Samuel Bateman led a breakaway polygamist FLDS sect in the aftermath of Warren Jeff’s imprisonment. The sect of loyal Warren Jeffs followers were struggling and vulnerable when Bateman showed up in their Short Creek community, near the border of Arizona and Utah. Nancy Campbell: "A Mood That Led to Murder" | MURDERISH Ep. 213
In the 1990s and early 2000s, trash daytime TV was in its heyday. Shows like Ricki Lake, Jenny Jones, and the notoriously scandalous Jerry Springer were a guilty pleasure for anyone craving peak drama. Guests on these shows were encouraged to be loud, explosive, obscene, shocking, and even physically violent. The more over-the-top they were, the better the ratings. The Jerry Springer Show, which made its debut in 1991, featured themes that were among the most controversial. From white supremacists to eccentrics married to farm animals, watching Jerry Springer was like seeing a tabloid magazine come to life. Christian advocacy groups and media watchdogs claimed the show was destroying America. Maybe Jerry Springer marked the end of a more wholesome era of television, but it wasn’t as serious as life or death. Except it was for 52-year-old Nancy Campbell. In July 2000 Nancy was murdered in her home not long after appearing as a guest on The Jerry Springer Show. Follow Jami @JamiOnAir on Instagram and TikTok. Jasveen Sangha: "The Ketamine Queen" | MURDERISH Ep. 212
Jasveen Sangha was seated at the breakfast table the morning of October 29th, 2023, when a headline flashed across the TV that would turn her glamorous world of privilege upside-down, Former “Friends” star Matthew Perry found dead at his Pacific Palisades home. A lump formed in her throat. Only days before she’d supplied someone connected to the actor 25 vials of liquid ketamine, enough to comatose an African elephant. She typed in a quick Google search: “Can ketamine be blamed for causing death?” Any hope she had that the story would simply fade away was quickly dashed. Despite his well-publicized struggle with drugs and alcohol, Perry, 54, was still worth millions and a legion of “Friends” fans demanded to know who was responsible for giving “Chandler” his fatal dose. In the months that followed, police arrested five individuals for having a hand in Perry’s tragic demise. It wasn’t a set of the usual suspects. Two physicians, a rehab counselor, the actor’s live-in assistant, and an international, jet-setting socialite authorities dubbed “The Ketamine Queen” were among those arrested in connection with Perry’s death. Best of MURDERISH: Ep.175 Doug Benefield: “Black Swan Murder or Self Defense?”
In August 2016, 24-year-old Ashley Byers and 54-year-old Doug Benefield got married just 13 days after meeting. To a hopeless romantic, a whirlwind romance can seem like a dream. From a more practical standpoint, marrying someone you barely know can be perceived as impulsive and reckless. People close to the couple wondered - how well can you know someone in such a short span of time? In this case, it’s not clear whether Doug and Ashley’s rushed nuptials had anything to do with the relationship’s tragic end. And to this day, there remains much debate over the reasons why one of them would end up dead. Follow Jami on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir and join the Serial Streamers true crime TV club! Arielle Konig: “What Happened on the Cliff?”丨MURDERISH Ep. 211
On March 24, 2025 two nurses hiking on the Pali Puka trail in Oahu, Hawaii heard a woman’s terrified pleas for help. Amanda Morris and her friend Sarah Buchsbaum rushed toward the screams to find a bloodied woman slowly inching down the trail on her stomach. A man was crouched over her, a rock clenched tightly in his fist. He violently smashed the jagged boulder against the woman’s head then froze in place when he noticed the two strangers watching him. The man took off up the trail and disappeared from sight. The woman had a massive head wound and blood was streaming down her face. While Amanda put pressure on the wound to try and stop the bleeding, Sarah shakily dialed 9-1-1. Sarah and Amanda tended to Arielle’s injuries as they waited for police to arrive. The two women rushing to her aid wondered: Who was the woman’s attacker? Was this a random assault? And, most chilling of all, what might’ve happened if they hadn’t heard her screams? Mark & Jacob Iskander: “An Aftermath of Entitelment” | MURDERISH Ep. 210
Imprisoned in the California Institution for Women in Chino, California, since 2024 for the murder of two young brothers killed in a hit-and-run, Rebecca Grossman is adjusting to a very different lifestyle than the one she was used to. The one-time publisher of a luxury lifestyle magazine and heir to a multimillion-dollar plastic surgery fortune hasn’t taken her dramatic fall from grace lying down. Since being sentenced to 15 years to life for two counts of second-degree murder, Rebecca Grossman has tapped every resource available to her to avoid consequences, both criminal and financial. Her refusal to accept responsibility has weighed heavily on the family of the two victims, 11-year-old Mark and 8-year-old Jacob Iskander. On September 29, 2020 Rebecca was behind the wheel of a super-charged Mercedes-Benz that struck the boys in a crosswalk as their mother and younger sibling looked on in horror—having just barely survived themselves. An investigation into the crash revealed Rebecca was under the influence of alcohol and Valium, and perhaps more damningly, was engaged in a high-speed road race with her lover, former Major League pitcher Scott Erickson. After five years of conjecture and speculation, a jury will have the opportunity to decide once and for all on Erickson’s level of culpability, and whether or not the Iskanders are owed a multi-million dollar sum from the Grossman’s for the death of their two boys.
