Exclusive Premiere: Broken Keys - Do I Have To (Tall Black Guy remix)

Ahead of his forthcoming album Moving With the Current, Los Angeles multi-instrumentalist and producer Broken Keys returns to Outer Spaceways with “Do I Have To,” the first single from the project. Today we’re premiering side B from the 7", Tall Black Guy’s remix, which brings his Detroit touch to the track through dusty drums, bumpy bass, and a warm, cosmic feel. About the release, Broken Keys said: “When I played TBG the album, ‘Do I Have To’ was the one that caught him right away. He asked for the stems, and a couple days later the remix was back. Working with him is always easy because the flow is there, and this version has been in rotation for me ever since. I’m stoked to finally share it!”

Exclusive Premiere: MJK "Late To Camberwell" (Forthcoming on Mr Bongo)

Luke Una’s É Soul Cultura series continues with a new collaboration between UK garage pioneer Zed Bias and Ghanaian-British producer MJK, bringing together influences from techno, house, bass music, and beyond. Exclusive Premiere: Dramaboy "Janet" (Forthcoming on Paradoxy)

Paris-born, London-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Dramaboy is bringing his distinct, spacy, synth-led sound on the Reality compilation via Paradoxy Records, alongside artists such as LDLDN, Pearla, Aleqs Notal, and more. MIMS has the pleasure of premiering “Janet,” a track built on warm pads, melodic synth lines, a low-slung rhythm, and well, Janet. As Dramaboy puts it: “I wanted to explore a more carnal groove after witnessing for the first time all Janet Jackson’s very provocative 90s live performances. Then it evolved into its own more dramatic thing. For the solo at the end, I recorded it like 20 times before pulling it off – it’s a bit of a first for me to have this on a track. It’s somewhat of a transition track for me, slightly departing from the more celestial, spacey sound of my first album.”

Exclusive Premiere: Detroit Rising "Dre's World" (Makèz remix)

Detroit Rising / Lush Grooves returns with its second volume of reinterpretations from This Is Neo-Soul, the live album curated by Roy Ayers musical director Mark Adams and released via Down Jazz Records. Once again, the project brings together a wide cast of producers connected through deep house, broken beat, future soul, and jazz-rooted dance music. We have the pleasure of premiering Makėz’s remix of “Dre’s World,” with the Amsterdam-based duo reshaping the original into a disco jazz house rework aimed straight for the dancefloor.

Exclusive Premiere: Arsene "Hot Sweaty Nights" (Forthcoming on Global Caress)

Chicago house native Arsene returns to Star Creature’s Global Caress sub-label with It’s A Feeling, his first new material since last year’s debut 12”. MIMS Premiere: Benjamin Samuels "Negra Verdad" (Forthcoming on Worm Discs)

Premiering today on Music Is My Sanctuary, Negra Verdad is a key track from Benjamin Samuels’ forthcoming EP Visions, set for release in 2026 via Worm Discs. Built around a spontaneous recording session in Madrid, the track captures the Australian artist’s approach to composition, rooted in rhythm, shaped by collaboration, and open to influence from across musical traditions. Benjamin Samuels is a Sydney-based saxophonist, clarinetist, producer and composer whose work sits at the intersection of jazz, electronic music and global sounds. His music combines improvisation-led composition with groove-focused production, often bringing together complex rhythmic structures with layered, textural arrangements. He first introduced this approach on his debut album Dissensation (2024, Bridge the Gap), which established his interest in blending intricate rhythmic interplay with immersive, cross-genre sound design. On Visions, Samuels expands that palette further, working with a broader group of international collaborators including Spanish vocalist Rafita de Madrid and trumpeter Grifton Forbes-Amos. Negra Verdad emerged from a chance meeting in Madrid. After being introduced through mutual friends, Samuels and Rafita de Madrid quickly arranged a recording session in a small studio apartment in the Embajadores neighbourhood, engineered by Adriana Terrén. Despite having never worked together before and with limited shared language, the session moved ahead with minimal preparation. Following a brief outline of the track’s shifting time signatures, the pair recorded the piece in a single take. Rafita approached the composition through a flamenco lens, delivering a vocal that both anchored and expanded the track’s direction. The result brings together a range of influences that sit at the core of Samuels’ work. Elements of flamenco intersect with rhythmic and melodic ideas drawn from Turkish, Jewish and Indian musical traditions, not as a constructed fusion but as a natural convergence shaped in the moment of performance. As part of the wider Visions project, Negra Verdad highlights Samuels’ collaborative process, one that prioritises immediacy and responsiveness over extensive planning. The recording stands as a clear example of how his compositions evolve through interaction, with structure providing a framework rather than a fixed outcome. With this premiere, Negra Verdad offers an early insight into the direction of Visions, a project defined by international collaboration, rhythmic exploration, and a continued blurring of boundaries between genres and traditions.

Tribute to ZIAD RAHBANI - Selected by Dusty FingerZ

This mix is a humble tribute to the late Ziad Rahbani, the great Lebanese composer, pianist, playwright, and pioneer of Fusion and Oriental Jazz. His voice, raw and unfiltered, spoke truth to power and captured the soul of Lebanon. You’ll hear glimpses of his vast legacy — music and interview excerpts where he reflects on life, politics, creativity, and love. No mix could ever fully capture his impact, but this is my way of honoring it. I grew up on my parents’ music, rushing home from school to play funk, disco, hip hop, and Arabic tapes on a Sony CFD-V7 Boombox. One day, my father gave me Houdou’ Nisbi — a cassette I played endlessly. It was unlike anything else: emotional, layered, and deeply rooted in Lebanon’s cultural rhythm. That’s the power of Ziad — his music holds memory, movement, and meaning. Exclusive Premiere: Ruby Rushton "Walk to Regio's" (22a Records)

Ruby Rushton return with cinematic new single “Walk to Regio's”, the lead single from the London UK jazz quartet’s highly anticipated 'Legacy!' album on 22a Records. As a bandleader, flautist, saxophonist, producer, DJ and label boss, Tenderlonious has earned his polymath stripes. On "Walk to Regio's", Ed takes inspiration from multi-talented legend Isaac Hayes, in particular his ‘Shaft’ soundtrack. “I’ve always been obsessed with film music and it’s played a key role in my approach to composition. Issac Hayes’s ‘Shaft’ soundtrack is one of my favourites and has had a big influence on my music over the years. “Walk to Regio’s” is my salute to Issac Hayes and is a nod to one of the coolest films ever made!” Ruby Rushton trade the hustle and bustle of 1970s Harlem for the restless, ever-shifting energy of contemporary South London. A hypnotic piano motif sets the tone, locking into a deep groove laced with crisp horns and percussive layers. The rhythm section stays tight and purposeful, giving space for quick bursts of improvisation - each solo a snapshot of raw, soulful musicianship. It all circles back to that familiar refrain, closing with a flourish that feels both grounded and soaring. 'Legacy!' marks the fifth full length outing from the Ed ‘Tenderlonious’ Cawthorne led group who helped pave the way for the recent wave of jazz that has ignited the capital and enchanted the world. “Walk to Regio's” is released across all digital platforms on 31st July and you can pre-order ‘Legacy!’ on LP / CD / download on this day as well.

Tribute to ROY AYERS (Selected by GrandHuit)

From @grandhuit_514 I discovered Roy Ayers early in my musical journey. He’s an artist who had a huge influence on me, and over the years, I kept realizing just how important his career was to the history of music at large. From jazz to jazz-funk, jazz-fusion, disco, boogie, and even his influence on hip-hop & house—his impact is undeniable. Today, I’m incredibly moved to see how much he inspired DJs, producers, and musicians across generations. But more than anything, it’s the universal love for him that stands out. Everyone loved Roy, and I think that’s what makes him such an important artist. I became truly fascinated with his work the day I watched his live performance at Ronnie Scott’s, during the famous Battle of the Vibes. That’s when I realized not just his incredible musicianship but also his sense of humor. He had this incredible emotional range—his music could make you cry, laugh, or dance, sometimes all at once. That really struck me, and from that moment on, I started diving deeper into his music. Over the years, my passion for his work grew. I started hunting for rare records, original pressings—until one day, I had the chance to see him perform on a rooftop in Brooklyn. He was already past 75 at that point, already fragile, but still so magical. Watching him play live as the sun set over the city is an image I’ll never forget. I remember bringing my original pressing of Roy Ayers Ubiquity with me, hoping to get it signed. But I was too shy, too in awe of the moment. It’s a small regret, but also a memory I’ll cherish forever. With this mix, I wanted to pay tribute to him, as he passed away just a few days ago. I decided to take a chronological approach—starting with his debut album West Coast Vibes, moving through his time as Herbie Mann’s vibraphonist, then into his solo work and his years with his band Roy Ayers Ubiquity. From there, I included tracks from his 80s period, some unreleased material released by BBE, and even a few collaborations with Fela Kuti, Wayne Henderson, Guru & Erykah Badu. I chose to close the mix with Remember to Remember by Rick Holmes—it felt like the perfect closing theme for this tribute. May his soul rest in peace and his music lives forever. Please note: I deliberately chose not to include his work as a producer for other artists like Sylvia Striplin, Ladies of the 80s, Bobbi Humphrey to name a few, except for Daylight and Remember to Remember. Same for Coffy as this one was a movie soundtrack and not a solo album. I also left out most of his collaborations, except for his track with Guru, which felt too important to omit. Additionally, I didn’t include any remixes, as it would have made the mix too long. Maybe all of that will be part of another recording one day... GrandHuit

FWD.010 → Alex Coles: "Jazz Fusion is a process, not a genre"

Welcome to the second edition of FORWARD,
a brand new series of conversations with artists, authors, curators and innovators who are pushing music forward. The goal of this series is simple: to invite our guests to present their new works in their own words—whether it’s records, books, documentaries, exhibitions, or whatever truly inspires us. This series will feature rotating hosts, but for today, it’s Lexis! Today’s episode is a special one. We’re having a discussion with Alex Coles, author of a brand-new book that charts the history and impact of jazz fusion, using key songs to trace its 50-year evolution and contributions to Rock, Hip-Hop, Electronic music and more. The central idea from the book that really stood out to me is that Fusion should be viewed as a “process” rather than a genre. In the last 50 years, this process of exploration and collaboration between genres, cultures, generations and production techniques has contributed so much to contemporary music. I really loved this book and i’m very happy to welcome Alex Coles for a chat Alex is a London-based art, design and music writer, critic and also a senior editor at the fabulous Sternberg Press publishing house. FWD.009 → Rafa Aslan: "What If We Added Vocals?"

In this brand-new interview series, we invite artists we love to present their newest work in their own words. We felt that too often, album releases are reviewed by music journalists who interpret and give the record a rating based on their personal viewpoints (and sometimes biases). This is why we wanted to give the floor directly to the artists. The host is simply there to help carry the conversation. We go behind the scenes and dig into the inspirations, context, and emotions that went into making the record. There’s no better way to start this series than with our talented friend Rafa Aslan's newest album, titled Again and Again. FWD.001 → Angel Bat Dawid: "All Black Music Is Spiritual"

Composer, clarinetist, singer & spiritual jazz soothsayer Angel Bat Dawid descended on Chicago's jazz & improvised music scene just a few years ago. In very short time, the potency, prowess, spirit & charisma of her cosmic musical proselytizing has taken her from relatively unknown improviser to borderline ubiquitous performer in Chicago's avant-garde. On any given night you can find Angel adding aura to ensembles led by Ben LaMar Gay, or Damon Locks, or Jaimie Branch, or Matthew Lux, or even, on a Summer night in 2018, onstage doing a woodwind duo with Roscoe Mitchell. For her recorded debut on International Anthem, The Oracle, we've chosen to release a batch of tracks that Angel created entirely alone – performing, overdubbing & mixing all instruments & voices by her self – recorded using only her cell phone in various locations, from London UK to Cape Town RSA, but primarily from her residency in the attic of the historic Radcliffe Hunter mansion in Bronzeville, Southside, Chicago. Angel's first album "The Oracle" is out now on International Anthem. Get it! https://intlanthem.bandcamp.com/album/the-oracle
