4.20. The Colt and Cocodona Episode
1KG was a one hit wonder, Colt is going to state, and Rachel and Courtney are serious badasses. This episode is just a fun one, as usual. Kara gives a masterclass on parenting a young athlete while trying to stay calm during Colt's push for a state qualifying time in the 2-mile. He gets it with a massive PR. Kara and Des break down the impressive action from Cocodona 250 where Rachel Entrekin WON the whole damn thing in a course-record time. Meanwhile, Courtney Dauwalter conquers the 200+ mile distance for the first time to earn 2nd female and 6th overall. Is there anything she can't do?! Abby Steiner is suing Puma over "defective shoes?" What does that mean? Are super shoes even safe?!? Who needs a cuddle from their dog? And, who needs a little Ketone for recovery? Grab a blanket, your favorite pet, and cuddle up for another great episode! 4.19. The Marathon des Sables Recap
This is the episode you have been waiting for! Des gives us all of the incredible (and sometimes gory) details of her podium finish at the Marathon des Sables through the Sahara. From the hectic travel to exactly what self-supported means and all of the details of each stage, she holds nothing back (including the water to rehydrate her portable toilet paper). She carried all of her food and gear for each of the 6 stages, and still managed to crush it. The queen of Boston becomes the queen of the desert, and it's an amazing tale to tell. As always, thank you to Brooks Running as our presenting sponsor. Also, thank you to our additional sponsor for this episode - Lever Movement. 4.18. Freshy Fresh for London 2026!
It's been a crazy three weeks for Des and Kara, and now they are happy to be home and sleeping in their own beds with their Lagoon pillows. In this episode, they recap all that was the London Marathon from their live pod with Cynthia Erivo to Des's run with CB to the blazing-fast elite races. Of course, they keep it real with their takes on the sub 2 and the women's only WR. Some of you (guys in particular) might not like their takes, but that's why we love them. They call it like they see it! Plus, they share their perspectives on the shocking 2:05 race at the Glass City Marathon in Toledo, including the fun implications for the men's marathon trials in 2028. Hello Vinny Mauri... welcome to the scene with a US debut record! Thank you to our sponsors for this episode: Ketone-IQ and Lagoon Sleep. 4.17. Live from London with Cynthia Erivo!
From Boston to London Des and Kara are live again, this time with very special guests! In this intimate conversation, Cynthia Erivo shares her journey into distance running, how she balances marathon training with a demanding creative career, and what's fueling her preparation as she heads into London 2026. She'll be joined on stage by Brooks pro marathoner Erika Kemp, her marathon coach, offering additional perspective on the training process, mindset, and work behind the scenes as race day approaches. If you aren't familiar with Cynthia's work, she is one of a select group of people to be nominated for an Emmy, Tony, Grammy, and Oscar, so far winning all but the Oscar. She made her West End debut in the stage musical The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (2011) and her Broadway debut as Celie in the musical revival of The Color Purple (2015–2017). She expanded to films in 2018 with the crime thrillers Widows and Bad Times at the El Royale and then later Harriet (2019), Wicked (2024), and Wicked: For Good (2025). Hosted live at the Brooks Hyperion House in the lead up to London Marathon weekend, this one-time event brings together honest storytelling, elite insight, and the global marathon community—live and unfiltered. 4.16. Freshy Fresh from Boston 2026!
Hot off the presses... it's another freshy fresh from Des and Kara. This was recorded just a few hours after Des ran 2:35 from the main field, and Kara finished commentating the world feed. So... the takes and reactions are as freshy fresh as they can be! You get their thoughts on the races of the day with Korir and Lokedi both defending their titles, and Americans setting all sorts of records on this course. Plus, Des shares the details of her race pacing Ryan after bouncing back from MDS. She was the fastest woman in the main field and second masters on chip time, all with a beer cracked in Newton. Unbelievable running from her and what a day in Boston! Listen in and bask in the after glow with us!

4.15. Live from Boston 2026!
"I may not be elite, but I will always be VIP." - Des Linden That quote alone should be enough to suck you into this one. What a night in Boston! Over 1,000 of you packed into the Berklee Performance Center near Boylston for a live taping of Nobody Asked Us with Des and Kara, presented by Brooks Running. Des and Kara delivered with an awesome night, breaking down the fields for the marathon, reminiscing on 2018, and giving you all of the motivation you need if you are racing yourself. This is a must-watch before Marathon Monday!

4.14. The Boston Preview Episode
This episode was recorded on March 30th before Des left for Morocco. She is now in her 4th stage of the Marathon de Sables and absolutely crushing it across the Sahara. You can check the live results via the "LiveTrail" app. She's currently 4th overall female after 3 stages with the big 100K stage up next. The podium is within reach! Go Des! In this episode, Des and Kara break down the start lists for the Boston Marathon and tell you what to expect at the front of the races - who are the favorites, who might win, and what to expect from the top Americans. They also talk Boston tactics and how those have evolved with the advent of super shoes. It's less than 2 weeks to Marathon Monday... let's go! Note: Since the recording, Conner Mantz, Natosha Rogers, Megan Sailor, and Gabi Rooker have all withdrawn from the race.

4.13. The Dropped Episode
Cue the latest running controversy because it had been a few weeks. But first (!), Kara and Des update you on their lives including the latest race from Colt, and of course, Des's final preparation for Marathon des Sables. She will soon be running self-supported across the Sahara desert. In fact, she lands in Morocco on the very day this episode posts. Go Des... we are ALL cheering for you! Then if you missed it, Emma Bates posted on IG about getting "dropped" by UCAN (her nutrition sponsor) because of her pregnancy. Naturally, the world came to her defense, and now Emma is sharing more of her story on Ali Feller's podcast. Kara is no stranger to this issue, so she and Des dig into it, raising some good questions on the topic as well as a host of related ones. The short answer is... it's complicated, as many things are for athletes that are contractors and not in-house employees. Overall though, more rights and support for pregnant athletes is needed, and Alysia Montaño and Allyson Felix are leading the way. If you want to help, then put your time, energy, and money behind their work! Finally, we want to thank Lagoon for supporting the podcast (as well as Emma Bates even through her pregnancy)! 4.12. The Cosmo Episode
We missed you last week as Kara was on vacation, and the internets weren't cooperating for a recording session. So... we are back this week with a longer episode to catch up on all the latest in life and running news. Grab your favorite cocktail or mocktail and get cozy! We start with extended life updates. Kara breaks down Colt's amazing race at New Balance Indoor Nationals in Boston, where he won his heat in the mile. You get all of the proud-parent moments from Kara and some great perspective on supporting your kids in their dreams. She then shares about her amazing spring-break vacation to St. Maarten with friends, where beach time was what the doctor ordered. Cosmos were served nightly as Kara channeled her inner Carrie Bradshaw. Who knew she was a Sex and the City fan?! Des talks about her weekend in Oakland where she used a half marathon as a training race and did some final testing with GU Energy to dial-in nutrition and hydration for MDS. She also discusses the result from her VO2Max test there, where nerves and her heart rate went to the max. Shout-out to GU for their extra support of Des for her race! Then, they turn to a long list of running news with some controversial topics, including: Jane Hendengren indoor NCAA titles DQ in the men's 3K at NCAAs D3 podium controversy involving Seth Clevenger 2:10 marathon debut for Fotyen Tesfay (and the associated chatter) Grant Fisher's half debut in NYC All of the action from World Indoors, including so many medals for Team USA, and another amazing battle between Hocker, Kerr, and Nuguse As always, they finish with a Top 5 to round out the episode including a warm welcome to team Brooks for Clayton Young! Thank you to Brooks Running and ButcherBox for sponsoring this one. As an exclusive offer from ButcherBox, our listeners get their choice of organic ground beef, chicken breast OR steaks added to every box for a year, PLUS $20 off on your first box when you go to ButcherBox.com/nobody. 4.11. The Running Drama Episode
The running community was up in arms this past week over so many things, so naturally Des and Kara must talk about it! Yes, they get to the positive aftermath of the Atlanta kerfluffle, and then they dig into the NYC marathon charity debate, the LA marathon "photo finish," the course misdirection for the leader there, and of course, the 18-mile medal drama. But first! They give you an extended life update where Kara talks about her tentative optimism about her own running (with support from her Lever), and Des shares the latest on training for the Sahara via sunny Florida. All in all, we just want people to relax a little on the socials. It is ok to vehemently disagree with someone on there without wanting to ruin their life. Plus, we have to give USATF and the Atlanta Track Club for doing their best to resolve the issue at the US Half Champs. And, we have to give the LA Marathon kudos for doing their best to avoid cancelling a race where weather presented a real risk for some. Congrats also to Nathan Martin for his win at LA! It was an epic finish for a great guy! Finally, you get a cameo from me - Chris McClung - the editor. Des and Kara invited me to talk about my first stage race at Moab Run the Rocks this past weekend. It was awesome, and I highly recommend it as a way to dip your toe into stage racing if interested. Not everyone has to jump straight to Marathon de Sables like Des! Now to support the pod and get your LEVER Movement system, use code NOBODYASKEDUS for 20% off here... 4.10. Disney, US Indoors, and the Atlanta Kerfuffle
New sponsor alert! New sponsor alert... see the offer link below for ButcherBox! Wow... what a crazy weekend of running news and results! We start with Des's secret race as she ran the Disney Princess Half Marathon and WON. She talks about the early 5 am start, helping Ryan a little with his workout, and having a blast touring the park in this fashion. Kara shares her weekend of flying to NYC and calling USA Indoors. Then, they dig into the fiasco that was the women's race at the US Half Marathon Championships in Atlanta, where the lead vehicle led the top 3 women off-course. What a tough situation, and there are no good solutions. Des and Kara try to make sense of it all and give some potential options. We are left wondering... what will USATF and ATC do to try to rectify the mistake? UPDATE: Atlanta Track Club has decided to pay out prize money to both the official winners and to the 3 women that were led off course. In much better news, Des and Kara dig into the exciting results from the distance action at USA Indoors in NY. From the 800m to the 3000m, the US should be sending solid teams to the Indoor World Champs in Poland. Finally, they finish with a top 6 after announcing a new sponsor for the show. Now, go support that new sponsor! As an exclusive offer, our listeners get their choice of organic ground beef, chicken breast OR steaks added to every box for a year, PLUS $20 off on your first box when you go to ButcherBox.com/nobody. 4.9. The Olympics Withdrawal Episode
The Olympics are over and Des and Kara are going through withdrawal like so many of you. Fortunately, we have some fun running news to keep us occupied and to ease the pain... After the usual life updates, they dig into the new 800m, indoor world record, set by Keely Hodgkinson from Great Britain. She faced some injuries last summer which meant only a bronze medal at the World Champs in Tokyo. Now, she is healthy, already blazing the indoor oval, and her splits indicate that there might be even more in the tank. Des and Kara break it all down. Then, they introduce you to the 6th fastest US marathoner ever, who no one had ever heard of him until this past weekend. Meet Ethan Shuley, a 27-year-old American from Kentucky who lives and trains in Tokyo. He just threw down a 2:07 in Japan with no sponsor after steady gains over the last 18 months. Who is Ethan? What does this mean? How was it possible? And what are the implications for the US Marathon Trials for LA? Finally, they give you their top Olympics moments as the Games have wrapped, while also explaining the mixed emotions of watching the Closing Ceremonies as a competitor. If you think two weeks flies by as a spectator, imagine what it is like as an athlete! Now for your best night sleep, get you a Lagoon pillow. 4.8. Des's First Trail Ultra
Your 50K world record holder - Des Linden - is now an ultra trail marathoner, and you get the full breakdown here first! After a little catch-up time, Des and Kara go deep on the results from the Black Canyon 100K and 50K, with Des finishing 13th female in the latter race this past Sunday. They start with an overview of the 100K, which both of them spectated virtually. The races at the front were FAST with the course records going down on both sides, plus Molly Seidel earning a golden ticket to Western States for her 4th place finish. Then, Des shares her experience in the 50K race from start to finish including expectations, the trail community vibes, and a tough day that had her neck/back locking up on her in the final 3rd of the race. She got it done in spite of those challenges and is happy with the finish. Kara can relate b/c her trail debut at the Leadville Marathon was a tough day as well. All in all, this was a great learning experience for Des, and now she looks ahead to the Marathon de Sables. Then, they talk about the expectations at the Winter Olympics, especially for top American hopefuls, and wonder outloud if it is too much or misguided. Finally as usual, they close the show with a Top 5 that you won't want to miss. Everyone show Des some love for putting herself out there on the trails!

4.7. The Winter Olympics Episode
The Winter Olympics are ON and Des and Kara have the fever for it. In this episode, they talk about two controversies from the Games so far and give you a preview of the athletes/events they are tracking. Plus, you hear some behind-the-scenes details on their opening ceremony experiences from Beijing and London respectively. Des also gives a quick preview of her race this weekend at Black Canyon before an episode-ending Top 5. Some highlights: injections in crazy places, downhills without an ACL, broken tibias, silly keyboard warriors, ice and curling upsets (oh my!), urine-urine everywhere, when meeting your heroes gets weird, and so much more! 4.6. The Millrose Recap
This is about the Millrose Games, but it's also not about the Millrose Games. We promise you are going to love it. As usual, they start with some life updates including an update on Des's training for MDS (Marathon de Sables). She gives us a little BTS on prepping for the pack she will carry during the race. There is a weight vest involved so she can prepare for the supplies she will bring en route. It's a self-supported race after all. This might mean that Des finally does some strength work, and Kara volunteers to be here personal accountability partner on that. Someone check the Vegas odds! Kara shares some beta on Millrose travel and time in NYC with Colt, and then they get into the fun details of the meet itself. There is talk of the results, but there is also so much more. They break down results from the key races and also give BTS on the production meeting, Kara's make-up, Sonya's return to the booth, that ONE particular commercial, and Colt's Millrose escapades meeting all of the athletes. They talk about the meet as only they can. Finally, they end with a teaser on the winter Olympics and their podcast with Sara Spain, before ending with a top 5. 4.5. The Brooks HQ Episode
This episode is a fun one because it contains a big announcement about the future of of the pod. Spoiler alert... Brooks is involved (if the episode title didn't give it away). Drum roll please... Brooks will continue their presenting sponsorship of Nobody Asked Us through at least LA 2028! To celebrate, we bring on Garrett Heath who is the head of sports marketing for Brooks to talk about the partnership. Des and Kara are excited to be together for this one at Brooks HQ. Before Garrett joins, they start by giving some love to Minnesota and the challenges that the community is facing there. They hope that compassion can rule the day - more of that please - and that this pod can be a fun/light respite from the news. They give short life updates and talk a little about the indoor results from the weekend. Indoor track is back and things are already fast and spicy! Then, they bring on Garrett. He gives you a background on his running (and skiing) career. He grew up in Minnesota, was NOT recruited by Kara's alma mater CU, but did have an amazing career at Stanford before signing with Brooks as a pro. He's worked his way up at Brooks and is now head of sports marketing. Garrett shares some fun stories of his running past (beating some of the all-time greats) and then gives you some behind-the-scenes intel on sports marketing and how Brooks chooses and partners with athletes. Plus, he tells you why Brooks is exciting to support the pod with some previews of fun/new stuff coming in 2026. If that's not enough to buy some Brooks shoes, then we don't know what is! Finally, they finish with a Lever uplifting Top 5, where they also announce a fun Lever contest. You could win one! See details at the contest link below! Lever contest link: https://levermovement.com/pages/nau-giveaway-lp. Contest will be live until Friday, Feb 6th at 12 pm MT (2 pm ET). 4.4. The Trail Mix Episode
The buzz is real when it comes to Des's trail plans for this year. She just announced her first trail race of the season - the Black Canyon 50K - on February 15th in prep for the epic stage race Marathon des Sables (MDS) in April. MDS is a self-supported, multi-stage ultramarathon, primarily held in the Moroccan Sahara, where runners cover ~250 km (155 miles) in six days, carrying all their own food and gear while facing desert conditions, and sleeping in communal tents with other participants. We know Des likes a sufferfest, so it shouldn't be surprising that this race has captured her attention. She gives a little preview of her prep and opens the floor for some help for her team name. Drop your ideas in the YouTube or Spotify comments! Then, Des and Kara talk about the impending choice for the host city of the 2028 Olympic Marathon Trials. Phoenix and St. Louis go head-to-head for the opportunity to choose our Olympic marathoners for LA. What factors should be considered and which city might have the edge? Finally (before a Top 5), they preview the indoor track action coming up at the NB Indoor Games and at Millrose. There are some fun and exciting races to watch in the coming weekends, and they give you some tips on what and who to watch! Track is back! Thank you to Lagoon Sleep for sponsoring this podcast. 4.3. Houston and World XC Recap Episode
"The files are in the computer." Guess that movie reference as we open the show! Well, the runners were in the TV this weekend with live action at the Houston Marathon/Half Marathon and the World XC Champs in Florida. Des was on the call in Houston on Sunday, and both Des and Kara watched the coverage of the races in Tallahassee on Saturday. What amazing races they were! They cover all of the amazing chaos from World XC (from water to "mud" to obstacles and snakes), which made for some carnage on the course. Jacob Kiplimo from Uganda won the men's race, and Caroline Agnes Ngetich absolutely stole the show on the women's side. Des and Kara talk about it all and assess the US performances, with both men and women finishing in 4th place in the team results. Congrats to Tallahassee for putting on a great show! Then in Houston, perfect weather brought some very fast times. You had 4 US men under 60 for the first time in a single race, with both the US men's and women's half records very nearly going down. And in the marathon, Zouhair Talbi won the men's marathon in 2:05:45 with the third fastest time ever by an American. Talbi is a recently naturalized citizen. He can't compete for the US yet but should be eligible by the 2028 Games, so watch that name. Great Britain's Calli Hauger-Thackery won the women's marathon in 2:24:17 after also winning Honolulu just a month ago. Finally, they talk about a big doping bust in marathoning - Albert Korir - before ending on a more positive note with a top 5 for the week. We are only 13 days into January and already 3 episodes into this fourth season of podcasts for Des and Kara. It's going to be a good year!

3.46. The Transparency Episode
Breaking news: There will be a live pod in Houston. I repeat... there will be a live pod in Houston! Save the date for Friday, January 9th at 7 pm at the Cullen Theatre. Ticketing link coming very soon. This episode starts with an update on Kara's power outage and some crazy house issues that she's been dealing with over the weekend. She and family are ok, but there's been a lot of extra stress lately. Cue the deep breaths needed. Then, they turn to a discussion on the emerging details from Grand Slam Track's bankruptcy filing, including the large sums of money they owe so many creditors. Michael Johnson promised us transparency, and we are finally getting it because the court is forcing his hand. These new details also raise questions of transparency for some of the "journalism" partners involved. Des and Kara weigh in on whether Citius Mag in particular owed us more transparency about their financial partnership with GST. Big J or little j? Does it even matter when we are just asking for the big T - Transparency?! To conclude the episode, you get thoughts on The Marathon Project's place in the sport, an update on Save the 10,000, and a holiday top 5 to finish it off. Happy holidays everyone!

3.45. The Coaching Episode
In this episode, Des and Kara welcome a special guest - their editor and show-notes writer - Chris McClung. That's me! For those that don't know, I am also a running coach, and my business, Rogue Running, coaches athletes to help them achieve their running goals (both in-person and virtually). We just published a book called Running the Rogue Way where we teach you the how and why behind our coaching methods. Des and Kara were nice enough to have me on to talk about it. Links below if you want to check it out, but you get some teaser-tips in the conversation. The main message is that the book is for anyone who puts one foot in front of the other and wants to get faster - no certain speed or pace needed to start. But first(!)... we cover recent news and events including Kara and Des's experiences at Brooks XC Nationals, where runner-parents get some parent-coaching tips. We talk about Athing Mu's departure from Coach Kersee and how that certain news outlet reported it. And, we discuss the bankruptcy filing from Grand Slam Track with some insider intel on what it means for athletes and their recent partial payments. Finally, we finish with a Lagoon Sleep Top 5 to finish it off. Thanks so much to Des and Kara for inviting me on the show! To get your copy of Running the Rogue Way: a. This isn't the final episode of 2025 for Des and Kara, but this is the last episode of the year with a long list of running results to discuss. Listen in because there was A LOT of running action this past weekend from XC to the indoor track to the marathon. Des and Kara start with updates on their recent travels - Des to Shanghai and Seoul, Kara to snowy Wisconsin. As highlights, we learn Des's nickname in China and get an update on Colt's race at Brooks XC regionals in proper blizzard conditions. Then, they turn to this past weekend's results, starting with Nike NXN and the US XC Champs in Portland. Who showed up and showed out to earn spots on the World XC team for the US? Plus, holy Hedengren(!) as Jane H ran 14:44 to break the collegiate indoor and outdoor 5K record at BU. That's also the 2nd fastest time ever by an American indoors. She is only 19, but it seems like she is making it look too easy! The sky is the limit for her. Finally, they drill in on the US Marathon Champs at CIM (including Courtney D's near OTQ) and some fast times at the Valencia Marathon in Spain as the fall marathon season finally wraps up. Thanks to Lever Movement for sponsoring the very uplifting Top 5 this week. For 20% off on your Lever system, use code NOBODYASKEDUS at levermovement.com.

3.42. The X-Rated Episode (XC that is...)
"So, it doesn't hurt or bother you when someone's in your mouth?" - Kara "For his Thanksgiving, he used to go to a strip club that would have a potluck." - Des OMG... this is a good one. Where do we even start? Des and Kara start with some catching up, talking about the dentist, holiday decorations, and Thanksgiving plans. We also get a proper update on Colt and his team's amazing performance at NXN Regionals, plus a preview of what's to come at the Brooks XC Championships (live NAU podcast alert!). Des shares her travel plans to China and Korea over the holiday, while prepping a collab with the one and only Courtney Dauwalter at CIM. Then, they dig into all things NCAA XC Championships, including the amazing races and the controversies. From Jane's historic run to the team competitions, beef between coaches, and the course-cutting, there is plenty to talk about... Finally as usual, they end with an uplifting top 5 to cap this Thanksgiving-week episode. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We are grateful for everyone who listens!

3.41. For the Women and the Girls (and the Moms)
Des and Kara return this week, fresh off of Kara's annual, girls weekend and Des's trip to the Every Woman's Marathon in Scottsdale, AZ. You get proper updates and behind-the-scenes stories on both of those. Then, they turn to interesting discussions on the upcoming Brooks XC Championship presented by Fleet Feet. The regional qualifying events are at the end of November with the finale in San Diego in mid December. Spoiler alert: Des and Kara will be there for it with a live podcast incoming. Finally, before a Top 5, they have an in-depth conversation about NCAA XC including the dominating performances of break-out freshman Jane Hedengren, as well as the potential impact of having many more international athletes in those fields. You might be surprised by the factor that could be most challenging/disruptive about this trend. Stay for the end when Kara gives the funny story about a mom listener and her son that gave Kara and her friends the ultimate laugh at girls weekend. And... don't worry guys... you will like this one too. Special thanks to our sponsor for this episode Lagoon Sleep. Lagoon's biggest sale of the year is happening right now - and it's better than the usual deal we share. 3.40. The Transitions Episode
Life is a series of transitions from one thing to the next, and this year marks a transition for Des with the move from elite marathoning to her next chapter. This episode is about just that and her documentary titled "The Next Chapter," where she talks about the timing and reasons behind this transition for her. If you haven't checked out the documentary already, then do so here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuPVzH3HN8I. It's a must-watch that will have you wiping your eyes. Kara shares the moment with Des as she relates back to her own transition from elite marathoning. This episode, however, is not all tears. There are plenty of laughs too, as with any conversation between these two. They also talk about signing and getting autographs, hugs from Taylor Swift, first pitches, Kara's new tattoo, hiding purchases from your partner/spouse, food delivery, and some very fast times on the trails at Tunnel Hill. Plus, you get an update on Kara's running and her dystonia. Though running news was light this week, this conversation has so much good stuff in it. As always, they finish with an uplifting Top 5 sponsored by Lever Movement. For 15% off on your Lever system, use code NOBODYASKEDUS at levermovement.com.

3.39. The NYC Recap Episode
This is the post-NYC episode you have been waiting for! First, we catch up on Colt's race on Saturday at the CO state meet where somehow Kara dropped the ball and missed seeing him mid-race. Fortunately, he and his team still ran well, but Des coaches Kara up on how she can be a better specator next year ;). We also get an update on Des's knee and whether or not she will be racing the 50-miler this weekend after running 26.2 in NYC. Then, it's all about New York where Des and Kara mix together Des's run with Anthony Ramos (to an impressive 4:44) with the excitement in the elite races, especially on the women's side. Did Des really experience what it's like to run with the masses in the main field, or is she still a little bit elitist?! How are her legs feeling after 26.2 miles in what might have been her longest run ever by time on her feet? How about that exciting women's race where so many Americans were in the mix and then Obiri, Lokedi, and Chepkirui fended off the challenges from Hassan who just wouldn't go away?! Plus, what about the men's near-photo finish and amazing races for all of the top Americans? What a day in NYC which never disappoints! Special thanks to new sponsor Celcius for sponsoring this episode's top 5 to close the episode. Yes, Celcius is an energy drink but did you know they have electrolyte-based hydration powders with no caffeine as well? Kara and Des are both fans so check them out!

3.38. NYC Marathon Preview, aka the Spicy Episode
"If you could smell ringworm... " - Des Linden Des and Kara took ketones before this episode so you know it's going to be a good one. They start with life updates including a tick bite and a banged-up knee for Des :( and amazing performances from Colt and his team at XC Regionals to qualify for the state meet. Then, they get spicy and fired up about a host of topics including the recently-announced Treadmill World Championships, a doping storyline on The Morning Show (spoiler alert!), and details about the Ruth Chepngetich doping case. There is plenty to get frustrated about in there, but it is more fun when Des and Kara do it. Finally, they give a thorough NYC preview covering the international and American fields with hints and picks on who might win and be top American on each side. This is a must-listen before you watch (or run) it on Sunday! As always, thank you to Brooks Running who is our presenting sponsor. Thanks also to Ketone-IQ for supporting this episode. 3.37. The Showgirl Episode
From two of your favorite showgirls... this episode covers Taylor's Life of a Showgirl, but it is so much more than that! Some highlights... neti pot usage, (violent) dreams, books, Hunting Wives, Alanis Morissette, Japanese maples vs. redwoods, Showgirl, TS marathon prediction, Femke Bol to the 800m, Courtney Dauwalter on the roads, pillow talk, motivational sunglasses, and so much more! And the real question is: do you hear the words in your head when you read to yourself?! Now, use code NOBODYASKEDUS for 15% off on your first order at Lagoon Sleep. 3.36. The Chicago Marathon Recap Show, aka the Raw Denim and Happy Sweater Episode
It's October, and marathon season is fully here, which means you will be hearing plenty from Des and Kara over the coming weeks. We know you aren't mad about that! First, you get some fun intro banter talking about college tours, hotel rooms, raw denim, and happy sweaters from the sale rack. You might want to check out YouTube to see the happy sweater. Can you guess who was wearing it?! Then as the main course, they recap the results from the Chicago Marathon including Conner Mantz's American Record, before finishing with their takes on the 2nd Athlos meet that happened in NYC this past weekend. The sport of running is alive and well in its many forms, and we are here to cover it all! Next up... NYC!

3.35. Live from Chicago 2025!
Last night, Des and Kara were live at the Chicago Marathon in a live event hosted by Brooks Running and Fleet Feet Chicago! As with all of the live episodes, this is a fun one with their usual catch-up banter, a very special guest in CJ Albertson, race previews for the marathon on Sunday, and some great questions from the live audience (with all of the audio captured!). Just some of the fun... CJ's recovery post Tokyo and his goals for Sunday, race day predictions, quick takes on The Life of a Showgirl, what Des and Kara think about each other as friends, tips for evolving your training and goals as you age, and so much more! Good luck to those racing on Sunday. Go get it done!

3.34. The Anthony Ramos Episode
This is an exciting episode with a very special guest, thanks to our presenting sponsor Brooks Running! Anthony Ramos seems to have done it all from musicals to movies to music to television and more, but he hasn't run a marathon... yet. Thanks to Brooks and the NYRR, plus some sage coaching from the one and only Des Linden, he will achieve that milestone at the NYC Marathon this year. You might know Anthony as the original actor for the dual role of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in Hamilton or for playing the lead role of Usnavi in the movie version of In the Heights. He is also starring in the upcoming movie A House of Dynamite to be released in theaters on October 10, 2025, before its streaming debut globally on Netflix on October 24, 2025. This is a fun one because Anthony brings all of the doubts and fears and challenges of a new marathoner to the conversation as Des and Kara coach him up a little bit. He relates the challenges of running to his career and is very blunt about his biggest concern for race day in NYC (to which all of you will relate). This one is for all of the Hamilton fans and for the marathoners, new and experienced, that have ever faced a challenge putting one foot in front of the other. Anthony puts words to the pursuit that are very inspiring!

3.33. Final Tokyo Recap
In this final bit of Tokyo coverage, Des catches up with Kara's alter ego (Carol?) to talk about Tokyo recovery and recap the last night of action at the World Champs. Carol is a dead ringer for Kara with a much raspier voice and a deep, deep love of karaoke (no mic needed). They intro by talking about their return trips from Japan, overcoming jet lag, and trying to avoid getting sick along the way. Kara may not have been so successful there. Then, they did into the final night of track action including recaps of the W800m and M5000m, where Kara's predictions came true and Cole Hocker got his much deserved redemption from the 1500m DQ. Plus, they talk about other fun/exciting moments from the entire meet, and Kara reveals the secret karoake star hiding within the NBC team. We know the World Champs are over, but let's soak it in one last time with these two! Thank you to our sponsor for this podcast - Lagoon Sleep - as they are helping Des and Kara get over their jet lag. Use code NOBODYASKEDUS for 15% off on your first order at Lagoon. Susanna and Jess were both leading at one point, and Erika gutted things out on a tough day. They give you the behind-the-scenes info on the prep, the pre-race time in Tokyo, and of course, the race itself. The bond that these 3 women have is really special and inspiring. 3.25. The "Short" Episode
"What are we even going to talk about? We just did an episode last week..." - Des and Kara before they blink and produce 70 minutes of glorious podcast content. As such, this "short" episode turned long in all of the best ways. It starts with a laugh-inducing intro with life updates from Des and Kara and ultra training updates from Des. Then, they get into all of the latest running news - 20K US Champs, Sydney Marathon, UTMB, DL Final, GST, and a suprising and very maddening US doping positive. From leopard-print pajamas to Red Fox Regattas and all the running news that is fit to talk about, this episode was the best kind of "short," meaning that the time listening to it will fly by! Thanks to Ketone-IQ for sponsoring this episode and helping Des and Kara get revved up for this one. 3.24. The Long and Straight (Talk) Episode
Des and Kara are not capable of recording short episodes so this one is long with plenty of straight talk about running drama and the upcoming Chicago + NYC marathon fields. No one wants their episodes short (and curly) after all... This one starts with life updates that quickly devolves into hilarious, hotel horror stories. You will be laughing along and thinking about your own nightmare hotel stays. Just make sure you are in a place where you can laugh out loud, because you will, and it might get out of control! Then, they lean into the recent Tracksmith and trail drama along with the sprinting, where-abouts drama. Does Tracksmith belong in trail and what do we make of Gabby Thomas on TikTok surrounded by books and talking about missed tests? Finally, they dig into the Chicago and NYC fields complete with way-too-early predictions for each. Des puts Kara on the spot regarding some of the Americans in the fields, and then gives us an NYC confession of sorts. Listen to the end to hear it and stay for an off-the-rails top 5. This is a fun one. Enjoy!

3.23. The Gossip Episode
Gossip? Facts? Real news? This episode has a little bit of all 3 in a back-and-forth dynamic that will leave you laughing and loving it. Des and Kara start with an update on their girls trip to Cincinnati to visit their friend @runningcb. There was baseball and tennis and so much walking involved that Kara is still sore today. There were also shenanigans with dog Miles and beer challenges for Des and shared bedrooms. It's safe to say that Des and Kara have entered into a new level of friendship with this trip (and that Crouton might be jealous). Then, they turn to all of the running chatter from this past week including a comeback race for Keely, WR attempt for Faith, hope for Yared, and of course, the latest "transparency" from Michael Johnson and Grand Slam Track. They talk doping offenses from Fred Kerley and collegiate Parvej Khan, remind the pros how easy it is to use the whereabouts system, and wonder when more rigorous testing will come to the collegiate and high school level. With NIL expanding, are high schoolers and their parents ready for testers to watch them pee in a cup?! Finally, they end with an unhinged Lagoon Sleep top 5 (err... 4?). Now to support the podcast and our sponsor Lagoon, use code NOBODYASKEDUS for 15% off on your first order. 3.22. The US Champs Recap Episode
We know you want US Champs reactions, but this episode starts with the real post-mortem you've been waiting for... the redux on the Hot Ones challenge where Kara and Des go full TMI on you. They tell you all about the spicy aftermath of last week's episode, and Des shares that she has been going back for more. Then after quick life updates, they get into in-depth recaps of every event 800m+ at the US Champs. There are almost too many storylines to cover from surprises in the distance events to some sprint drama both on and off the track. There was so much good stuff that it took a full 95 minutes to recap. We can't wait for Tokyo... can you?!

3.21. Des & Kara Meet the Hot Ones Challenge
We are mixing it up with this episode, and let's just say that things get a little bit spicy! If you haven't subscribed to our YouTube channel yet, then now is the time b/c you will want to watch this one there for sure. In this episode, I (editor Chris) join as host to take Des and Kara through the Hot Ones challenge, using the hot sauce line-up from Season 27 of the show. Hot Ones is the show with hot questions and even hotter wings, but since we recorded this in Austin, we swapped in smoked brisket for hot wings, with all of the same sauces from the show. To start, we cover fun running questions and then get into deeper life stuff as the bites getting hotter. Des and Kara hang in there pretty well until brisket bite #8, when things drastically fall off the rails as we hit the infamous "Da Bomb" sauce. Des starts sweating dramatically from the sides of her nose, and suddenly Kara can't form a coherent sentence. In addition to the hilarious spectacle of it, you learn some fun stuff along the way including their post-long-run food of choice, their alt Olympic sport from another life, some very questionable road-trip hygiene choices, and how they remain authentic in the public eye (plus so much more). How will these two Olympians handle the challenge?!? Tune in to find out!

3.19. The Crouton Episode
And we aren't talking about Caesar salad... Kara and Des are joined in-person by a very special guest on this one. She isn't very talkative, but they can't stop interacting with her throughout the show. You might jump over to YouTube for the full experience on this one. This episode is a good one that is absolutely jam-packed. You get all of the life updates from both. Des gives us the rundown on pacing Western States and her epic, hut-to-hut trip in Switzerland, where she learned the magic of trekking poles. Now, trekking poles might be coming to a road marathon near you ;). Kara shares about her summer in Minnesota, calling Grandma's and then calling Pre, and the always-welcomed Colt Goucher running news. Then, they dive into the commentary for which you've been waiting a few weeks... what did they think of the Faith sub-4 attempt and her WR to follow at Prefontaine? Plus, which results at the Prefontaine meet turned their heads, including the women's 5K record and the always-exciting men's 1500m where Yared Nuguse was nipped at the line? Bonus topics include the Donovan Brazier comeback and where oh where is the Grand Slam Track prize money which has yet to be paid? Michael Johnson promised transparency but still has not showed us whether or not GST's wallet is deep enough for the promises made. Finally, they end with a Lagoon Sleep top five to celebrate all of the July birthdays from the show, including Kara's older sister Kelly. 3.18. Oh Ruth... (Bonus Episode!)
You asked for it, and here it is. This is a bonus episode with Des and Kara's freshy fresh takes on the Ruth Chepngetich doping positive and provisional suspension. Ruth shocked the world with a 2:09 WR at the Chicago Marathon last year, and now, it appears that it wasn't real, even as the WR will likely still stand. If you are curious about their reactions, stop everything and press play. Plus, come back for our regularly scheduled programming on Tuesday, July 22nd when our next episode will land!
