Episode Highlights: The idea that you belong to a corporation (something that’s not yourself and an idea that’s problematic for Allison, even though she loves what she does) A bit of wisdom from Allison’s dad: you don’t need a classroom to be a teacher If you think about it, both leadership and brand are classrooms—both represent an exchange of information and accommodate different styles of      thinking What inspired Allison and her co-author, Liz High, to write their celebrated book Why does the un-corporate individual need an emotional connection to their company’s brand? The importance of language, which often gets overlooked in favor of visuals when establishing a brand And lots more! S1E11 - Stephanie Helfer | Part 2 | The Balancing Act of Remote Work

Season 1: Episode 11 PBL is back with part two of my insightful conversation with Stephanie Helfer, Head of Expert Acquisition at Paro.ai, the AI-powered finance and accounting marketplace for businesses. For today’s discussion, we delve into the topic of remote work, a seismic shift that has changed our workplaces in major ways. But is it here to stay? Stephanie shares her opinion on what the future holds for remote work as well as tips for keeping your workforce engaged and efficient in a virtual office space. And while it may be harder (but not impossible) to stay in constant contact with employees in a remote setting, the ability to spend more time with family and take care of kids makes it all worthwhile. Working remotely is truly a balancing act that requires intention and creativity, and Stephanie has great ideas on how to find balance—and success. Let’s get into it! Episode Highlights: Stephanie is truly a PBL in her own right with two teenagers at home! The best work setup (remote, onsite, hybrid) will depend on a person’s unique needs. It takes intention to keep remote employees engaged and on task. Remote meetings feeling stale? Trying taking a walk during your next meet! A major benefit of remote work is giving you more time to spend with kids (and getting them ready for the day). And lots more! S1E10 - Phil Johnson | Mastering Your Emotional Intelligence

I’m so excited this week to have Phil Johnson, author and creator of the Master of Business Leadership Program, a 16-week course that helps professionals access their emotional intelligence, inspirational leadership skills, higher consciousness, freedom from ego-based fear, and more. We spend much of our time discussing that first component—as it turns out, emotional intelligence can act as a “big brother” that helps us deal with anxiety in a healthy way that leads to greater business outcomes and deeper relationships. This is especially important today in our current climate of constant stress! We also break down the importance of setting better habits, since these are the driving forces that guide our day with very little variation. Set better habits, see better outcomes! These are just a few of the great lessons I learned from Phil during our discussion. Hope you get as much out of it as I did! Episode Highlights: Phil’s amazing background, which includes overcoming dyslexia before it was a widely known condition How emotions are a bigger driving force in our lives than intellect How our 500-million-year-old brains don’t like change, which is increasing at an exponential rate, leading to unhealthy amounts of stress Only two motivators spur us to leave our comfort zones: pain and passion We’re only conscious about 3-5% of time—the rest of the time, we’re reliant on our habits with very little variation And so many more wonderful insights! It’s not always easy, but Stephanie shares some great ways to get creative when talking about it on LinkedIn or within your resume. She also explains how almost every moment in life is a prime opportunity to network, and we can all benefit from making more connections. Let’s dig in! This was a great opportunity to have a candid chat with an old friend and trusted business partner about the top lessons we learned in 2022, a year that tested our limits in so many ways. S1E7 - Ashley Hyman | Give Yourself a Little Grace

Season 1: Episode 7 Welcome back to PBL! This week I had the privilege of sitting down with Ashley Hyman, Vice President of Customer Success at Drata, a leading compliance automation platform. She’s a brilliant person who stepped away from a life in academia to transition into the business world. And wow—she’s been very successful at it, to say the least! But even throughout her success, she’s always kept in touch with her educational roots and channeled her love of learning and research into her role at Drata. Ashley has great insights about parenting, being deliberate with your time, and the hidden strength of asking for help when you need it (and lots more). As she puts it, it’s all about “giving yourself a little grace.” Enjoy the episode! Episode Highlights: We touch on Ashley’s fascinating background in public health, education, and research Her involvement with Portfolium, an ed-tech start-up focused on helping students showcase what they’ve done in the classroom to get jobs, and how it set the tone for success in her career Ashley and Laura share stories of rising up as women leaders and how sometimes, depending on your work environment, the dreaded glass ceiling doesn’t always  get in the way How Ashley’s views on having children have evolved over the years and how parenthood makes you a more effective leader In parenting and at work (and in balancing the two), you have to be deliberate with your time to set boundaries and get things done Connect with ATR: LinkedIn and Instagram Thanks for tuning into this week’s episode of Parent.
