Meanwhile, Roo’s cat, Philippe, is busy plotting how to train the dog and impressively  pooping outside. Roo tries to convince Aimee that cookie dough yogurt is legit, but Aimee remains firm—especially since her daughter has only been eating the cookie dough chunks and not the yogurt.Roo is also dealing with a new struggle: Pilates-induced hydration madness. She’s drinking more water, which means she has to pee constantly. Aimee suggests using a bladder bag like David Sedaris, but Roo refuses to be that person. They debate the unfairness of being both thirsty and having to pee at the same time. Roo hates that she has to put in extra work just to keep her pee in, and she absolutely will not be doing kegels. Also, peeing in the ocean? She struggles to find a middle ground between being genuinely herself and not getting taken advantage of.Roo solves the mystery of why men always think you’re hitting on them if you’re nice: because no one is nice to men.Generations of men were raised by men who were mean to them. Women, at least, are socialized to be somewhat nice to each other, but men are taught to be tough and detached.This leads to a deep dive into how people react to kindness. If Aimee is too nice, people shut down. If Roo receives a compliment, she instinctively downplays it because she was taught not to be arrogant. Women in general are often conditioned to shrink themselves—don’t be too confident, too boastful, too anything.
