I've Been Taking Care of You All Along

Dvora didn't choose her audience through market research. She followed a thread for forty years without knowing she was following it -- from GYN nursing to the NICU to twenty-five years as a School Nurse -- and one day looked back and could see the whole line. In Part 3 of A Bridge, she traces the career arc that led her to women in midlife, the community post that made this work feel true, and what she learned by finally leaning into the territory she almost skipped. In this episode, we talk about: The forty-year thread Dvora followed without knowing -- from GYN to antepartum to NICU to school nursing to women 50+ Why being told to "choose a niche" felt like shrinking -- and what changed her mind The Facebook post she wrote to her Lamorinda community that made this work feel true, not strategic Why she almost skipped menopause entirely -- and the doctor's line that stopped her "Menopause is not just one day. It's forever. The rest of your life." Nothing was wasted. Not one year of it. About Dvora Citron:Dvora Citron is a Registered Nurse, National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, and Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner. After twenty-five years as a school nurse, she now helps women in midlife create the health, confidence, and vitality they want -- through science, story, support, and soul. I Was the Last to Know

Episode 23: I Was the Last One to Know (A Bridge, Part 2) In 2012, recovering from back surgery on her therapist's couch, Dvora was asked a question she wasn't prepared for -- and her answer told her everything about what had been getting in her way. In this solo episode, she traces the story from that couch to a seventeen-course sushi dinner, and asks the question she wants every woman in midlife to sit with: what is the story you've been living inside for so long you stopped noticing it was a story? In this episode, we talk about: The question Dvora's therapist asked in 2012 -- and the answer that came out before she could think about it The Yiddish word balabusta, and what it means to confuse a role with an identity Why clinging to a blueprint keeps you from being present in the actual experience The sushi dinner where Dvora didn't get her own way -- and got something better How what's getting in the way is almost never the circumstances or other people The only first step: seeing the story About Dvora Citron:Dvora Citron is a Registered Nurse, National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, and Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner. After twenty-five years as a school nurse (40 years in nursing), she now helps women in midlife create the health, confidence, and vitality they want -- through science, story, support, and soul. The Price of Beginning

There's a Friday that looked like every other Friday -- until it didn't. In this solo episode, Dvora Citron tells the story of a fentanyl overdose she responded to as a school nurse, and what it revealed about twenty-five years of showing up scared and doing it anyway. This is Part 1 of a four-part solo bridge series leading up to something she's been building for a long time. In this episode, we talk about: - The school nurse story that captures what it means to be fully in your role -- not performing it- What imposter syndrome actually feels like when you're the only healthcare provider in the building- Why waiting to feel ready is the one thing guaranteed to keep you stuck- The moment Dvora realized she had become the person the team turned to in a crisis- What it looked like to start this podcast without a plan, a production team, or a roadmap- The one shift that changes everything: "You don't get ready and then begin. You begin, and that's how you get ready." About Dvora Citron:Dvora Citron is a Registered Nurse, National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, and Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner. After a 40 year nursing career, twenty-five years as a school nurse,  she now helps women 50 and older create the health, confidence, and vitality they want -- through science, story, support, and soul. Nothing Is Wasted: Reinvention and Confidence with Annette Naif

Episode 21: Nothing Is Wasted: Reinvention and Confidence with Annette Naif Annette Naif has spent nearly four decades producing events that mark the biggest moments in people's lives. In this conversation, she and Dvora explore what a nonlinear career path really teaches you, why confidence is something you practice rather than possess, and what it looks like to advocate for yourself in healthcare when the people around you are not listening. In this episode, we talk about: How decades of experience across film, television, legal work, and corporate operations built the foundation for Annette's event business, even when none of it felt connected at the time Why Annette started her company at 47, what it cost her to underprice herself early on, and how she found her footing by surrounding herself with people who reflected her value back to her The importance of being in rooms with other women who are aging with confidence and vitality, and why that kind of community is a health practice, not just a social one What Annette did when she woke up at 2 a.m. with excruciating calf pain, why she pushed back when a medical professional was ready to send her home, and what women need to understand about self-advocacy How Annette coaches aspiring event planners through her Dreams to Dollars Masterclass, and what she sees holding women back from trusting the dream they have been carrying About Annette Naif:Annette Naif is the founder of Naif Productions, a strategic event planning, design, and production firm based in New York City. Going Back to School After 50: Reinventing Your Career in Midlife

Is it too late to reinvent your career in midlife? If you've ever asked yourself that question — quietly, in the in-between moments — this episode is for you. In this conversation, Dvora Citron sits down with Casey Sasner, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who went back to graduate school after 50 and built a clinical career while caring for aging parents, supporting young adult children, and navigating the full weight of midlife life. Casey's path wasn't linear. It moved through corporate marketing, years of raising children alongside significant community and synagogue leadership, entrepreneurship, and finally — a master's degree in Counseling Psychology and clinical practice. Her story isn't about starting over. It's about recognizing that leadership and capacity never stopped accumulating — even during the years that didn't come with a paycheck. This is what midlife career reinvention actually looks like: negotiated, layered, and worth it. The Menopause Monologues: Bringing Menopause Into the Spotlight

Menopause is universal. Silence around it has been cultural. In this episode, I sit down with Lulu Braunstein, Carrie Vanhouten, and Lisa Anne Morrison, the creators of The Menopause Monologues, a live theatrical movement bringing menopause out of the darkness and into the spotlight, one real-life story at a time. This is not just a performance. It is women telling the stories our mothers and grandmothers could not tell. Publicly. Embodied. Without apology. And yes, that includes a pink vagina puppet. What We Talk About • How The Menopause Monologues began • The cultural silence around perimenopause and menopause • Medical dismissal and why so many women feel unprepared • Why live theater creates a different kind of impact than information alone • Humor, rage, grief, and relief in midlife • Their three pillars: Listening. Sharing. Serving. • Why they include a menopause-trained clinician for live post-show Q&A • Healthcare equality across race, income, and gender identity • Redefining what sexy means in midlife Why This Production Matters As a nurse, I care deeply about access, language, and informed care. What I respect about this work is that it does not stop at storytelling. After each performance, they bring in a menopause-trained clinician for a live Q and A. That is not decorative. It is service. Validation matters. Validation plus access is where change begins. The Menopause Monologues is built on three pillars. Listening. Sharing. Serving. It is theater. It is community. It is cultural disruption in the best sense of the word. A Moment That Stayed With Me At the end of our conversation*, I asked each of them the same question I ask every guest. What does sexy mean to you right now? Their answers were grounded, funny, and honest. They talked about: • Freedom from the male gaze • Humor as power • Ferocious self-acceptance • Appreciating stretch marks and wrinkles as evidence of a life lived • Speaking more openly and expressing what they actually feel Menopause as an Inflection Point Menopause is not a decline. It is an inflection point. A recalibration. A reorientation. A moment when many women begin asking how they actually want to feel rather than how they are expected to appear. The Menopause Monologues creates space for that conversation in community, in public, and yes, in the spotlight. Connect with The Menopause Monologues Website: The Menopause Monologues® Instagram: @the.menopausemonologues *A Note About the Closing Due to a technical glitch at the end of our recording, the final segment of our live conversation was lost. I reached back out to each of the creators, and they graciously recorded their responses to the question I ask every guest. What does sexy mean to you right now? You will hear their individual reflections at the close of this episode. I am grateful for their generosity, and I think their answers are worth the extra effort. About the Creators Lulu Braunstein, Producer and Co Founder Raised in a theatrical family in the UK, Lulu has spent much of her life immersed in performance and production. After years producing live televised events in London and directing elementary school musicals in Northern California, she co founded The Menopause Monologues to bring empathy, language, and community to a life stage too often misunderstood. Carrie Vanhouten, Creator and Co Founder Carrie is a theater trained creative, lifelong feminist, and Reiki master who blends performance, activism, and healing in her work. Through The Menopause Monologues, she uses storytelling as a tool for cultural change and women’s advocacy. Lisa Anne Morrison, Director and Co Founder With over 25 years of professional theater experience across stage and television, Lisa directs work at the intersection of art and activism. Her leadership in The Menopause Monologues centers on amplifying women’s voices and building community through live performance. Do Women Still Need a Gynecologist After 50? with Dr. Cheruba Prabakar

Midlife isn’t the end of gynecologic care. In many ways, it’s where the real work begins. In this episode of Sexy in Your 60s, I sit down with Dr. Cheruba Prabakar, MD, FACOG — board-certified OB-GYN and nationally certified menopause practitioner — to talk about what women over 50 truly need when it comes to their health. As a Master’s-prepared Registered Nurse with over 40 years of clinical experience and a Lifestyle Medicine–certified Health & Well-being Coach, I’ve seen how often women step away from gynecologic care once they’re done having children. But as Dr. Prabakar explains, this is often when the most important work begins. In this conversation, we discuss: Why women should continue seeing a gynecologist after menopause What often gets overlooked in midlife care Urinary incontinence and pelvic floor changes Painful intercourse and vaginal dryness The evolving role of hormone therapy Bone health, strength training, and preventive screening What thriving in your 50s and 60s really looks like This is not about chasing youth. Episode 13: Motion Is Lotion: Pilates, Core Strength, and Independence After 60

What does sexy mean in this season of life? For me, it has less to do with appearance and more to do with steadiness and capability. In this episode, I’m joined by Dana Kramer, a lifelong fitness professional with more than 45 years of experience and certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise, along with comprehensive Pilates training. Dana works primarily with beginners, women over 60, and clients rebuilding after injury or surgery. Recently widowed, she shares how movement became structure and orientation during a season of grief and transition. We talk about what the core really is and why it matters more as we age. We discuss strength training, posture, balance, rheumatoid arthritis, and the importance of consistency over intensity. Dana offers a quieter message than what we often see online. Start with breath. Build gradually. Stay consistent. Stop comparing. “Fit at my age isn’t about looking fit. It’s about being capable.” This episode is for any woman recalibrating what “enough” looks like now. If this conversation resonates, you may also want to revisit two pieces I wrote recently. One explores why walking matters more than ever as we age. The other reflects on what it means to stay vibrant instead of fading quietly into the background. I’ll link both in the notes below. Color, Texture, and the Nervous System with Susan Goldie

As we move through midlife and beyond, many of us become more sensitive to our surroundings, not less. In this episode of Sexy in Your 60s, Dvora is joined by Susan Goldie, an abstract mixed-media fiber artist whose work centers on color, texture, fiber, and making as a form of presence and care. Together, they explore how creativity can support emotional well-being and nervous system regulation - not as performance or productivity, but as something we enter through our hands, our materials, and our environments. Susan shares her creative journey, from fashion design and couture bridal work to large-scale theatrical costuming and her current focus on abstract fiber-based art. She reflects on how working with color, texture, and natural materials has helped her process emotion, stay grounded through life transitions, and cultivate a deeper sense of meaning, especially after turning 60. This conversation is about noticing: How color and texture affect how the body feels Why sensitivity often deepens in midlife Creativity as a form of care, not self-expression for display Letting go of “I’m not creative” stories Small, embodied ways to feel more at home in yourself Susan also shares a behind-the-scenes look at her process through a short video documenting the making of her daughter-in-law’s wedding gown - a beautiful example of her relationship with fabric, detail, and attention: Watch the gown-making video here: https://youtu.be/4FV0A9F1mwg  (Video length: ~2.5 minutes) To stay connected with Susan’s developing work, exhibitions, and new pieces available for purchase, she invites listeners to subscribe to her newsletter ArtNotes, where she shares weekly studio updates and behind-the-scenes reflections. Sexy as Essence: What Vitality Looks Like When Life Is Uncertain

Sexy as Essence: Jane Hyde on Aliveness, Energy, and Living with Cancer What does sexy mean when life is uncertain—when the body changes, when illness interrupts, and when control is no longer guaranteed? In this deeply human conversation on Sexy in Your 60s, Dvora sits down with her close friend Jane Hyde, who is living through her second experience with cancer. Rather than focusing on diagnosis or timelines, this episode explores something quieter—and more profound: essence. Jane radiates a magnetic presence not because she denies what’s hard, but because she meets life with honesty, humor, and deep connection. Together, Dvora and Jane talk about what it means to feel alive in your body, to receive care after a lifetime of giving, and to stay grounded in the present moment when the future feels uncertain. This is not a conversation about “fighting” cancer or staying positive at all costs. It’s a conversation about vitality, embodiment, and inhabiting your life fully—right now. If you’re navigating illness, midlife transitions, caregiving fatigue, or simply redefining what it means to feel at home in your body, this episode offers a gentle, steady invitation to reconnect with what’s essential. Listener Reflection As you listen, you might gently ask yourself: What feels alive in me right now—and how can I honor that, just a little? 📖 Read the companion blog post: Sexy as Essence: What Vitality Looks Like When Life Is Uncertain https://www.slant2plants.com/blog A Gift for You Download the Sexy in Your 60s Starter Guide — a free resource designed to help you reconnect with your body, your energy, and what feels true in this season of life. https://slant2plants.com/starter-guide  It’s not about fixing yourself or getting back to who you were — it’s about feeling at home in who you are now. Episode #10: Flow Over Perfection: Creativity, Yoga, and Aging with Wendra Lynne

Flow Over Perfection: Creativity, Yoga, and Aging with Wendra Lynne What if aging well isn’t about doing more — but about loosening our grip? In this episode of Sexy in Your 60s, I sit down with lifelong friend and creative guide Wendra Lynne for a conversation that unfolds at the intersection of creativity, embodiment, and aging with intention. Wendra is a visual artist, author, and illustrator whose work spans painting, writing, teaching, and deeply embodied creative experiences. Our conversation moves through her lifelong relationship with art, the role yoga has played in quieting a busy mind, and how practices like watercolor invite presence, flow, and trust — especially as we age. We talk about creativity not as output or achievement, but as a living practice — one that supports emotional resilience, steadies the nervous system, and helps us stay connected to ourselves through different seasons of life. Along the way, we explore how confidence can deepen with age, how purpose can soften without losing meaning, and how caring about the world doesn’t have to mean carrying its full weight. This episode is less about answers and more about listening — to the body, to curiosity, and to what’s calling now. It’s an invitation to rethink perfection, to value flow, and to remember that creativity isn’t something we leave behind. It’s something we grow into. And yes — as with every episode, I ask Wendra the question that opens the door to our deepest reflections: What does “sexy” mean in this season of life? You’ll have to listen for her answer. You can explore more of Wendra’s work here:https://www.bywendra.com/  If this conversation resonates — if you’re craving more ease, clarity, and a grounded sense of what this chapter of life can hold — I invite you to download my Sexy in Your 60s Starter Guide. Menopause, Intuitive Eating & Rebuilding Trust with the Body

Menopause, Intuitive Eating & Rebuilding Trust with the Body Guest: Kathleen McDermott, RN Founder, Women & Balance Episode Description What if the struggle with food and body changes in midlife isn’t about willpower — but biology? In this episode of Sexy in Your 60s, Dvora sits down with Kathleen McDermott, a registered nurse with over 25 years of experience, Certified Menopause Coaching Specialist, and Intuitive Eating Counselor, to unpack what’s really happening in the female body during perimenopause and menopause. Even as a nurse, Kathleen found menopause confusing, under-explained, and isolating. That personal experience led her to bridge nursing science with compassionate coaching — helping women 40+ rebuild trust with food, understand their changing bodies, and move away from restriction and diet culture. Together, Dvora and Kathleen explore why traditional dieting backfires in midlife, how hormones quietly impact heart, bone, and metabolic health, and why intuitive eating is not about “eating whatever you want,” but about nourishment, awareness, and nervous system regulation. This conversation is grounded, honest, and deeply reassuring — especially for women who feel frustrated, exhausted, or disconnected from their bodies in this season of life. About the Guest Kathleen McDermott, RN is a women’s life and health coach, Certified Menopause Coaching Specialist, and Intuitive Eating Counselor. After more than 25 years in nursing — including leadership and bedside care — she founded Women & Balance, where she supports women navigating perimenopause and menopause with education, compassion, and evidence-based strategies. Kathleen helps women reconnect with their bodies, make peace with food, and create sustainable habits that support energy, mood, and long-term health — without restriction or perfection. Episode 8: Walking Into What’s Next: Movement, Meaning & Reinvention After 60 with Gail Perry

Walking Into What’s Next: Movement, Meaning & Reinvention After 60 What if one of the most powerful tools for brain health, emotional resilience, and reinvention after 60 isn’t a supplement or a prescription—but simply walking? In this episode of Sexy in Your 60s, I sit down with Gail Perry, also known as Gail Perry Treks, to explore how movement can become a gateway into what’s next. Gail’s story isn’t about chasing reinvention—it’s about listening for it. Through global trails, hut-to-hut hikes, and the creation of her Walks of the World page-a-day calendar, she followed curiosity and found herself stepping into a new chapter, including becoming a hiking guide at age 65. We ground our conversation in science—walking and brain health, the hippocampus, dementia risk, and emotional regulation—and then move into lived experience: how walking clears mental fog, regulates the nervous system, and helps us reconnect with ourselves beyond roles, expectations, and people-pleasing. This is a conversation about movement, meaning, and courage—and about trusting that sometimes the path forward reveals itself one step at a time. If you’re navigating life after 60 and wondering what’s next, this episode is an invitation to lace up your shoes, step outside, and begin. 🔗 Connect with Gail Perry Website: https://gailperrytreks.com  Instagram: @gailperrytreks Email: [email protected]  📅 Walks of the World Calendar Explore the 2026 Walks of the World page-a-day calendar, featuring inspiring trails from around the globe. Episode 5 - Authentic Connection

EPISODE 5: AUTHENTIC CONNECTION — WHAT WE’RE REALLY CRAVING (ESPECIALLY DURING THE HOLIDAYS) In this final solo episode for a while, I’m slowing things down and going deeper. As the holidays approach, many women feel an uncomfortable mix of togetherness and loneliness, connection and disconnection. In this episode, we explore what authentic connection actually means in midlife — beyond the buzzword, beyond obligation, beyond performance. This conversation is an invitation to reconnect: with yourself with others and with what truly matters in this season of life IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL HEAR ABOUT: Why connection can feel harder — not easier — in midlife and during the holidays The difference between performative connection and authentic connection How overusing the word connection can actually dilute its meaning The role of presence, boundaries, and self-trust in deeper relationships Why loneliness is common — and not a personal failure A gentle reflection on letting go, forgiveness, and emotional spaciousness THE DEEPER TAKEAWAY Authentic connection doesn’t come from doing more, fixing relationships, or forcing closeness. It comes from showing up honestly — first with yourself. LISTENER REFLECTION As you listen, I invite you to consider: Where am I craving more authenticity right now? Where might I be overextending or performing instead of being present? What would it look like to soften — just a little — this season? WHAT’S NEXT This episode closes out my solo reflections for now. Coming up next, I’ll be sharing guest conversations with inspiring women who embody vitality, honesty, reinvention, and soul in their 50s, 60s, and beyond. Rituals, Radiance & Redefining Sexy — How Daily Moments Shape Your Midlife Glow Sexy in Your 60s Podcast with Dvora Citron (Season 1, Episode 3) Why do rituals matter so much in midlife and menopause? In this beautifully grounded episode, Dvora blends science, personal story, practical support, and soulful guidance to help you understand how rituals — from morning gratitude to mindful coffee to nature walks, meditation, skincare, and Shabbat — support vibrant aging. You’ll explore: • The neuroscience of rituals in menopause & post-menopause • How daily rhythms create emotional resilience • The rituals that shaped Dvora’s own midlife transformation • A simple 60-second grounding practice to begin today • How rituals cultivate radiance, sensuality, presence, and connection If you're craving calm, clarity, and deeper meaning in your 50s, 60s, or 70s, this episode offers accessible tools to reconnect with yourself — and redefine what sexy means in this chapter of life. Episode 2 - The Vibrant Woman Mindset

Episode 2: Mindset Matters — The Inner Story That Shapes Your Aging Host: Dvora Citron, RN, MS, NBC-HWC Episode Summary In this episode, we explore one of the most powerful foundations of vibrant aging: your mindset. The beliefs you hold about yourself, your body, and what is possible in your 60s and beyond directly influence your energy, habits, health, confidence, and overall well-being. This episode looks at how to rewrite outdated stories that no longer serve you and begin stepping into a more grounded, intentional, and empowered chapter of life. In This Episode, You’ll Learn: Why mindset is the gateway to every other part of your well-being How beliefs about aging influence motivation, biology, and behavior The difference between decline-based aging narratives and evolution-based ones How personal history, culture, family, and society shape your inner story What sparked Dvora’s mindset transformation in her 50s Three reflection questions that help you rewrite your internal narrative How to begin shifting from limitation to possibility About This Episode Mindset is not about forced positivity or pretending everything is fine. It is about the lens through which you interpret your experiences, your age, and your potential. In this episode, I share how my mindset began to shift years ago through mindfulness, meditation, recovery from surgeries, and the steady rebuilding of physical and emotional strength. I also discuss the cultural narratives that often shape women’s beliefs about aging and how many of those stories are inherited rather than chosen. You will learn why aging is not a decline but an evolution — a clarifying, deepening, and powerful season of becoming. You will also hear three guided questions to help you gently challenge old beliefs and craft a new story about the woman you are and who you are becoming.
