I spent 15 years playing the cello and piano through high school but it wasn't until I graduated college that I discovered electronic music. My earliest memorable club experience was in Chicago going to see Basement Jaxx spin. It was many years ago and the details are a bit of a blur but I remember dancing all night and more importantly, that was the night I fell in love with dance music. I clubbed and danced through the next 6 years in Chicago and Dallas, keeping up with DJ's and new CD mixes (remember that thing called Napster??). In 2002, I moved to San Francisco and it is here that I discovered the art and joy of DJ'ing. This month I celebrate my 11th year of DJ'ing and I can't think of anything else that has so deeply helped shape my community of friends, creativity and fun! So to celebrate my 39th birthday, I'd like to share the gift of music with you... the gift that keeps on giving! Enjoy! I love playing in intimate spaces like the upstairs room at Public Works... being able to reach out over the turntables and say hi to friends on the dancefloor makes the booth feel so much homier. As always, the Space Cowboys kept the dancefloor going from start the finish and I appreciate the chemistry that the Cowboys stir up when we play back to back all night. I've been on a booty breaks spree since Burning Man 2013 and I keep coming back to the bass heavy beats for my sets... from the looks of everyone on the floor, the bass was well-received. :) XO, shOOey About shOOey... shOOey has been a staple in the San Francisco dance scene since 2003. This week's RIPEcast features Space Cowboy's one and only ShOOey who not only served up a rockin' set in one of our outdoor tents, but also helped serve up some much needed support for Food Bank SF as well. ShOOey says: "2013 was a year of big changes for me but one thing has not changed... Breakfast of Champions is *still* favorite party of the year! As always, it's a privilege to play such an amazing event and I was soaking in the love from my friends onstage and out on the dancefloor. After my set, I was so warmly greeted by smiles, hugs and kind words from new and old friends and I can't think of a better way to start the new year. I'd like to thank the rock star volunteers who helped collect food and money for the San Francisco Food Bank. I spent a few hours at the food bank table and was in awe of the generosity of our community and attendees. A *HUGE* thank you to every single one of you that donated. We collected 450 pounds of food and over $9,500 in cash and online donations. The Space Cowboys matched every dollar for a grand total of a little over $19,000. For this week we're bringing back ShOOey with her main stage closing set (played in the guise of Pauly D). About this set ShOOey sez: Playing the closing set at Ghostship this year gave me an excuse to play a little bigger, harder and darker than my usual sound. I had an absolute blast on stage dancing, jumping, and fist pumping my heart out. Seeing all my friends in the first few rows of the dacefloor was a treat as always and love that people were in the for the long haul to see me play.
