EP 13// Advice Column: ADHD Medication

Let's get something straight--ADHD stimulant medication IS NOT m*thamphetamine, nor are they dangerous to take *if you have ADHD, and take them as prescribed.* In this episode of Sorry I'm Late, I share my advice and spit some facts about ADHD medications, specifically stimulants. I discuss the common phenomenon that many ADHD'ers experience after taking a stimulant medication for the first time in their life--rage and grief. It's not uncommon to experience grief after realizing your life has been so difficult and you didn't even know it; grief for the loss of the life you thought you would have, grief about the reality of your true mental and physical capacity. I discuss the stigma surrounding ADHD medication and why it's harmful.I also share my opinion about how stimulants can be used as another mask that society expects from ADHD'ers. Tune in to hear all my perspectives about ADHD medication.Disclaimer:And as always, please remember that at the time of publishing this episode, I’m only a mental health professional in training, and this podcast is designed to feel like I’m just your bestie giving you some solid advice. EP 10//7 Tips For Meditating When You Have ADHD

“I can’t meditate, I have ADHD.” Yes you can, baby!If you’re interested in meditation or the act of meditating, but you have a hyperactive mind/have ADHD, and find meditation to be frustrating or overwhelming, this episode is for you! Being neurodivergent means that we experience every single thing in life differently. That includes meditation. Meditation can seem a daunting feat for someone with a brain that never stops! I know, I’ve been there. But I’m here to spread the good news that yes, even you can meditate!! And so I’ve compiled all my best tips and tricks how to meditate when you have ADHD.[*CORRECTION:* In this episode I mention that humans have 60,000 thoughts a day, and after researching it, that might be incorrect. I will include a link below in “Helpful Links” about current research regarding how many thoughts a day an average person has.]Helpful Links:Article about how many thoughts/day a human has (A Selection of Fascinating Facts About the Brain and Heart, Joseph S. EP 9//MINIPOD SERIES: WHY EVERYONE IS *NOT* A LITTLE ADHD

Hi neurospicy babe! Welcome to my Minipod series on Sorry I’m Late. I made this series to create short form, consumable podcasts that are designed with ADHD listeners in mind. It’s quick advice. I keep it brief, I get right to the point, and I made them short enough so you can binge listen to as many as you want in one sitting! Hey guess what, everyone is NOT a little ADHD. Everyone is NOT a little Autistic. In this episode I dissect the (incorrect and harmful) stigma of why everyone is not “a little ADHD/Autistic.” My quick advice: There’s a difference between experiencing ADHD symptoms once in a while, and experiencing them all the time, for as long as you can remember. When your ADHD/Autistic symptoms have brought negative consequences that are distressing and disrupting your everyday life, that’s when it’s real.  Keywords: ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, neurodivergence, neurodivergent, stigma. DISCLAIMER: I forgot to include in the audio an official disclaimer. EP 8//MINIPOD SERIES: ADHD OR JUST A LIGHT BEING?

Hi neurospicy babe! Welcome to my Minipod series on Sorry I’m Late. I made this series to create short form, consumable podcasts that are designed with ADHD listeners in mind. It’s quick advice. I keep it brief, I get right to the point, and I made them short enough so you can binge listen to as many as you want in one sitting! What if we’ve been sold a lie? What if everything we’ve heard about ADHD is pathologized bullshit? In this episode I challenge the norm of neurodivergence as a pathologized condition you’re simply a victim of, and reframe it through a compassionate and empowering, holistic/spiritual lens. Your nervous system is fundamentally diverse, and maybe there’s a profound reason for that. I believe that neurodivergent individuals are really just divinely-coded, sensitive souls with a deliberate purpose to bring to the Collective. My quick advice: Consider this new narrative. Take it or leave it as it suits you best. HELPFUL LINKS:In this episode I mentioned how Autistic brains have more brain activity than neurotypical brains. After researching it further, I remembered the research findings that Autistic brains have more active synapses. Link to the study and image I discussed here.  (Cite: embrace-autism.com)Keywords: ADHD, Autism, Autistic, Light being, spirituality, enlightened, holistic, neurodivergence, neurodivergent, neurology, nervous system, Clair senses. DISCLAIMER: I forgot to include in the audio an official disclaimer. NO MORE ADHD HACKS. NO MORE TIPS AND TRICKS! In this episode I offer a crucial piece of advice to my neurospicy fam(especially my very burnt out ND babes)—sometimes the best “hack” you need to cope with your ADHD(or Autism) is to just meet yourself where you’re at. My quick advice: Stop trying to fix yourself. And start cutting yourself some slack. Keywords: ADHD, Autism, neurodivergent, neurodivergence, ADHD Hack, ADHD advice, tips, neurodivergent burnout, burnout, skill regression, self loathing, self compassion, low demand lifestyleDISCLAIMER: I forgot to include in the audio an official disclaimer. EP 6//MINIPOD SERIES: YOU'RE DOING THIS & DON'T KNOW IT / MASKING & WHY IT'S PROBLEMATIC

Welcome to my first episode of my series I affectionately call, MiniPod's! I've designed these episodes to be quick informational/educational episodes to discuss certain ND/ADHD-related topics that are important convos that need to be had. Today's episode discusses a topic that is a very real issue that all ND's(neurodivergent folks) experience - masking. According to The Brain Charity* (see Source citation below linked under "Helpful Links"), Masking is "...the act of suppressing or concealing neurodivergent traits in schools and workplace in order to appear neurotypical." The article continues, "(n)eurodivergent people who mask their conditions tend to do this by mimicking or mirroring the behaviors of neurotypical people around them, such as their peers, colleagues or friends." In this episode I discuss what Masking is, draw examples of how it may appear in your life, and what to do in the moment when you notice that you're masking. I also bring up the topic of Ableism, and how this form of prejudice is unfair and absurd; how masking leads to burnout, as well as a friendly and necessary reminder that it's not your job to make others feel comfortable when they're around you! You deserve to exist wholly, unapologetically as yourself, without external, people-pleasing (and frankly stupid) expectations that keep you small and miserable! ----- Key Moments: 1:24 Introduction to my MiniPod Series! 2:12 Topic: Masking. Defined, explained. 5:54 Why Masking is problematic. This is why you need to de-mask.... 6:57 "How do I know when I'm masking?" "How do I stop?" Ask yourself these questions.... 8:05 Thank you for listening! 9:55 Disclaimer ------ Hi, beautiful soul! If this episode was helpful to you in any way, I invite you to please leave a 5 star review, tell your friends and family, and share the show. I would appreciate it so much, love! ------ YOU'RE INVITED TO FOLLOW! Instagram: @amyfeels ----- Helpful Links: *Source: The Brain Charity, "What Is Masking?" More information about Ableism
