King David led quite a life. He had incredible highs, and some mind-numbing lows as well. Today we see him once again threatened by someone who wanted to take over - this time a rebel named Sheba. This guy was pretty charismatic - he told the men of Israel that they should abandon David, and so they did. David also had a man named Joab to contend with. How do you normally respond to those who have hurt you, or done you wrong? The world would say, get em back! Give them a taste of their own medicine. But God would have us go in a far different direction, and it’s modeled by King David in the story before us. We see rebellion all around us... from the child who puts their foot down in disobedience to their parents, to the adult in prison who refuses to comply with the laws of the land. Sexual assault is a serious crime. In the day and age we live in, it is treated very seriously. Back in the days we are looking at in Second Samuel, we see a scene in which Amnon lures his half sister Tamar to his sickbed and assaults her. It’s a story with several tragic results.
