Soul Stirrers-Stand By Me Father 11/21/25 5.49 PM

Story by: Gail NoblesKeyboardist: Gail NoblesPhoto: Wikipedia Public DomainLet’s dive into the soulful world of Sam Cooke, a man whose artistry transcends boundaries and whose influence continues to reverberate through the corridors of music history. Born in the rich gospel music, Cooke's evolution as a musician was profoundly shaped by his roots. One particular gem that shines brightly in his catalog is “Stand by Me Father,” co-written with the talented J.W. Alexander. This gospel spiritual beautifully reflects Cooke's deep connection to his faith and the traditions that molded him. The song is recorded by the iconic Soul Stirrers with Johnny Taylor on lead vocals. It’s easy to mistake Taylor’s silky tones for Cooke’s own heartfelt tones. Both artists are masters of evoking deep emotions, and it’s only fitting that the track captures that same intensity. Released in 1959 on Cooke's own SAR Records label, “Stand by Me Father” is a heartfelt expression of brotherhood and divine support. Johnny Taylor's powerful singing, filled with the passion of gospel music, continues the tradition of the Soul Stirrers even after Sam Cooke became a solo artist.Cooke's amazing talent for mixing gospel music with the growing rhythm and blues was not only new and different; it also inspired many other artists to find their own musical styles. "Stand by Me Father" is a strong reminder of this legacy, expressing a deep wish for help and strength—a message that still connects today, just like it did in the late '50s. It's impressive how Cooke, after moving from singing with a group to becoming a solo star, kept the spirit of the Soul Stirrers alive in his heart, allowing his love for gospel music to guide him.So, when you listen to “Stand by Me Father,” take a moment to appreciate the depth of those smooth melodies and rich harmonies created by the Soul Stirrers, led by Johnny Taylor— a performer who carries the spirit of Cooke within him. Listen closely and let that spirit infuse your heart with hope, faith, and an unyielding connection to the music that defined not just a generation but an entire legacy. Both Cooke and Taylor remind us that the power of music lies in its ability to connect us all.I’m Gail Nobles. Thank you for listening to Spoken In Words-Gospel

A Gospel Night in Disneyland 8/10/25 6.39 PM

Photo: Spotify Promo CardKeyboardist: Gail NoblesGood evening, everyone. I'm Gail Nobles, and tonight, let's take a moment to imagine something truly special—a night where the magic of Disneyland meets the soul-stirring power of gospel music. That's right, folks. Back on Friday, September 16, 1983, The Los Angeles Times reported Disneyland bringing gospel music in a way we don't hear about nearly enough. The happiest place on earth transformed into a sanctuary of song, with some of the biggest names in gospel coming together to spread a message of hope and the good Lord above. It's a story that reminds us how music can bridge worlds, and I, for one, find it utterly delightful.According to the Times, this "Gospel Night in Disneyland" was a one-of-a-kind celebration, starring legendary performers who brought their heartfelt harmonies to the park. Leading the lineup was the incomparable Shirley Caesar, known as the "First Lady of Gospel," whose powerful voice has inspired generations. Joining her were the Mighty Clouds of Joy, that dynamic quartet whose upbeat rhythms turn every song into a joyous testimony. Then there's Reverend James Cleveland, the pioneering "King of Gospel," who not only sang but preached with every note. The Clark Sisters, with their smooth, contemporary flair, added a fresh energy, and rounding out the evening was the great Albertina Walker, the "Queen of Gospel Music," whose timeless gospel songs have touched so many hearts.Imagine a full evening of soulful gospel singers sharing messages of faith, love, and redemption—right there amid the castles and carousels.. It's not your everyday Disneyland spectacle, that's for sure. Imagine these artists turning the park into a temporary revival, proving that gospel music's universal appeal can shine anywhere.Tickets for this magical night were surprisingly affordable—$11 if you got them in advance, or $13 at the gate. In a world where entertainment can sometimes feel out of reach, that made it an opportunity for families and fans alike to experience something profound. I don't know about you, but hearing about an event like this makes me smile. It's a reminder that music has the power to unite us, no matter the setting.I’m Gail Nobles. Thank you for listening to Spoken in Words - TheGospel. Good night

Keyboardist: Gail NoblesPromo Card: Spotify Permission Story by: Gail NoblesLet’s take a glorious trip down memory lane to the soul stirring sounds of a gospel group that’s been lifting heart since 1964 - TheEvereadys. Oh what a journey they’ve embarked upon - a journey filled with faith harmony, and the unshakable love for Jesus Christ. From 1984 they have an album titled Just Think of His Goodness. They bless us with a timeless single entitled: “My Soul Loves Jesus.” When I hear them sing those heavenly words, let me tell you, I hear not just a melody but a resounding chorus. They’re not just singing: they’re proclaiming, “Bless His Name.”When I hear the uplifting words of the Evereadys, I know they share a deep truth when they sing the words “He has done great things for me.” What an amazing thought to remember how much grace he has shown. It touches my heart, reminding me of the countless blessings the Lord has given me.They sing that “He died on Calvary” - a moment that changed everything where love sacrificed and mercy overcame sin. Do we really understand how heavy that is? A perfect Savior chose to take on the sins of a rebellious world, carrying all our mistakes. It was the greatest act of love. But thank God, the crucifixion was not the end. No dear friends, it was just the start of hope and the door to eternal life. The Evereadys sang “He died that I might have eternal life.” And that my friends is what our faith is all about. He rose, triumphantly from the grave, breaking the power of death and giving us the gift of everlasting life - a life filled with purpose, joy, an endless connection with our creator. As I think about these powerful truths, I feel the urge to share this good news with a world that needs hope. We believe in a God who is strong to save, and who keeps doing wonderful things in the lives of those who trust him.The Evereadys! Their voices rise, like incense, pure, and holy invoking the very spirit of joy and worship. Every note connects with the truth that when your soul loves Jesus, it can’t help but rejoice! Friends, when the Evereadys take the stage, they bring forth an anointing that transforms the atmosphere and invites the Lord’s presence in.So let your hearts be uplifted, and your spirits be rejuvenated when we listen to the Evereadys - a group whose love for the Savior shines through every chord and lyric. The Evereadys!, My Soul Loves Jesus. Shirley Caesar 12/30/23 2.48.PM

Photo: Commons Wikimedia Public Domain Music Intro by: Gail Nobles Shirley Caesar is a gospel singer, and her career began in 1951 when she signed to Federal Records at the age of 12. Throughout her seven decade career Caesar has often been referred to as the First Lady of gospel music and the Queen of Gospel Music. I want to talk to you today about a gospel song from her 1977 album entitled “First Lady” the song is titled He's Got Love That Will Lst Forever. The song is a powerful and truthful song. The music is just right, but in 1977, they would not have agreed with me. In the old days, gospel music was different. To reach more people with her music, Caesar signed with a secular record label called Roadshow Records in 1977 and released her album First Lady Many within the gospel community felt that the music itself was "too worldly," and many gospel DJs refused to play it on their radio station. But that didn't stop Shirley Caesar. She kept singing for the Lord and the Lord blessed her to be successful with her music. Her song He's Got Love That Will Last Forever is a beautiful gospel song. Shirley Caesar has so much passion and conviction in her voice. Shirley Caesar sings the words “you need this love that will last forever. The only thing that you need is faith. You're listening to Spoken In Words-Gospel. I'm going to talk to you today about The Five Blind Boys of Alabama. They are a pretty amazing gospel group. They are also called The Blind Boys Alabama and Clarence Fountain and The Blind Boys of Alabama. When I first saw them sing, I asked: Are they really blind for real? They sing and stand as if they can see. The group was founded in 1939 and Talladega Alabama. I want to talk about their music. I was listening to their album from 1993 titled The Original Five Blind Boys of Alabama:The Sermon. In my opinion, I think they made a great choice to title the album The Sermon. The single talks to the people and has an important message. The lead vocalist of the song speaks out. Some of you just just like that sucker fish. He feeds way down on the soil. He acts out the preacher speaking to the people that haven't been right and those finding fault of everything. Everybody he speaks to is compared to different a different kind of fish. Ones a sucker fish and ones a catfish and so on. As the narrator of the song tells the story, the gospel group hums a gospel tune. Sounds like near the cross. No music just acapella. It's an old hymn for all the world to sing. Yes, it was a wonderful choice to name the album the sermon. The album has 27 songs altogether and the single The Sermon is the first song on the album. So check out the album The Original Blind Boys Alabama:The Sermon.

    The Consolers

Music by: Gail Nobles Story by: Gail Nobles Words by: Gail Nobles Those of you that listen to gospel music, do you remember the Consolers? They were a husband and wife singing duo in the old days. I remember an old green 45 record titled Nashboro Records. And I remember hearing these songs: Waiting For My Child To Come Home, May The Work Done Speak For Me, and Thank God Things Are As Well As They Are. Their songs were life lessons for me growing up. The Consolers told stories in their songs. I really learned what gospel music was all about in those days. The Consoles were before my time, but I was born in a household that always played their songs. I didn't know why then but I know now why. Though gospel music has changed, the lyrics of the Consolers speak out now. The songs they were singing applies to life today. We should thank God, let our work speak for us, and somebody is still waiting for their child to come home. I feel like the songs helped to show me in life. You’re listening to Spoken In Words.
