The GoPro Session mounted to my bass was used to capture this footage. The mount is a stuck between the pick guard and the tone controls. I have the GoPro on minimal setting… 1080, 30fps, and wide angle. The battery usually runs out before the last part of our performance. This footage is from earlier/middle of the gig. I recently discovered that I save myself a lot of battery life and a lot of editing work if I just start and stop recording between songs. Bass: Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe 4 String… also known as “Bread and Butter.” when I was a full-time musician I used this bass and I modified it for longevity. I broke off the mid-range tone knob. The original song is called, “Soulful Strut.” It’s groovy and doesn’t need a low Eb that is only accessible on a 5-string bass or a 4-string tuned down. https://3speak.tv/watch?v=steemseph/804d68bb ## Welcome to MORE of Josephs BassCam footage from April 12, 2026 featuring Chicago's “Feeling Stronger Every Day” as performed by me and the Jazz Derelicts Horn Band. New regular venue. It's a "locally world faoumous" type of place. Lot's of local band have performed here. They have a steady line-up of good coverbands/impersonator bands. I'm in a cover band too, but we don't try to act and dress like the original artists of the songs. I know the drummer in one of the bands. He is a funny dude and played well on a few gigs we shared back in the day. Anyway, the venue seems to pay these bands well and it's probably smart of the venue to have most of sound and music equipment. I'm glad we can use their PA, bass amp, and drums, and all the other things they have. Same gear: GoPro: GoPro Session. (No Hero 11 Black Mini.) Bass: Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe 4 String… also known as “Bread and Butter.” when I was a full-time musician I used this bass and I modified it for longevity. I broke off the mid-range tone knob. It's okay. I'll fix it someday. Beer: Some type of IPA. This venue is not a brewery. They always hand out a free drink ticket after half of the perfromance if over. Maybe they are tyring to meet their numbers. The waitresses act like it's a burden. One of them acted like they won't see me again. That's opposite of what I tell people in regards to tipping. I practice and I suggest tipping well if you plan on being back. Even when I get a free drink/drink ticket I tip five dollars at least. It'll be interesting to see this evolve. I totally understand where they're coming from, they see a lot of bands a lot of faces a lot of local dildos. Oh and by the way the venue is located on a main busy highway. As in, a section of 10 measures get interpereted as 8 measures and nobody gets lost of complains. Lol, i've seen the director become aware of it and make a gas face. It's smart to record rehearsals and performances. Going through all these steps and making elaborate videos and backgrounds blah blah blah is not necessary. Any recording, use a voice recorder, download the app, use GarageBand, download some stupid little app that lets you record audio quickly. Record it and then just as important listen to it later. Even if you want to do this it's easier said than done. Good luck, trust that it really helps. We lie, recordings and metronomes don't lie. We need that. It’s appropriate for us to use as on opener because the song was used that way originally. This is is about a juicy butt cheek. They called, “Squib Cakes.” I like butt cheeks. Doesn’t everyone? The original bass part is important, but getting as close as possible will help everyone keep their place in the long chart. We don’t play it like the original because the original recording has an epic organ solo by Chester Thomas. The bass part is written out for the head and the ending, but not the solo sections. I had to memorize that and do lots of studying. Again, the bass part was not easy for me and has required lots of practice just to do what I’m doin’ now. The OG bass player is a TITAN. It’s probably a song about doing drugs. The original bass part is probably not important to the audience or other musicians in Jazz Derelicts. Other than the solo break, the exact bass part is written out. It’s not exactly easy and has required lots of practice just to do what I do know. These big band-ish or swing era tunes are fun for LOUD trombone players. This FLASHBACK song is called “Makin' Woopi.”** The guy playing trombone in this trombone feature enjoys a good laugh. He likes to play loud and proud. I'm not mad. We all like it. He sounds good and reads better than most of the people in the room. A humble accidental section leader at the same time. His name is Stew and I am glad he is there. A classic jazz tune or "jazz standard" as they say. I think the bass part was written to compliment some of the trombone parts. I tried to stay our of the way. I usually allow myself to dominate bass frequencies and low end presents. It's what y'all want. People want hypnosis and feeling. This was a fun song to play and like I said, I’m glad to have a song with vocals and sections for horn players to horn-sturbate. No rants… I played every note perfectly twice. It’s healthy to create walking bass lines on this beast of a bass guitar. I seem to do it all better than last year at this time. This song could allow me to move around the bass neck and that’s very healthy, but again, at this concert, I’ll probably stay in familiar territory. Best to avoid high risk maneuvers and just stay focused on my place in the music and providing the horns players with rhythmic and tonal reference/confirmation. It would be super super super lame to make it all up and poison in with jazz-brain eating random infinite soloing style. The value of musical hypnosis should not be under-estimated. This is flashback and I fuct it up. I think I started in the wrong position.
