Stretch Mobility Coaching
by Kim Nartker
Founder of Stretch Mobility Coach™ and Creator of The Stretch Method®Kim Nartker is a healthy movement pioneer who spent more than 20 years studying how the body moves only to discover the truth most of us were never taught: stiffness and tightness are not aging. They are the first signs that your joints are silently losing mobility. After decades of working inside traditional healthcare Kim realized there was a massive gap between what the system treated and what people actually needed. Science clearly showed a different story about joint mobility muscle health and the nervous system yet no clinical model addressed it.So she built one.Through years of research testing and hands on work with thousands of clients Kim developed the Mobility Health Assessment™ the first comprehensive testing protocol designed to identify joints that are in decline long before pain shows up. She discovered what she now calls the Silent Shutdown Cy

Ep# 248 Why Does My Knee Feel Pressure When I Bend Down?
Your knee feels fine walking. Fine on stairs. Then you go down to the floor and there is a pressure. Most people call this pressure aging. and avoid that deep knee bend. It is not aging. Your knee has a lock and unlock mechanism you have no control over, and going to the floor is the only movement in your day that will tell you it has stopped working. In this episode I break down what that pressure actually is, what the research supports, where the evidence runs out, and three real women standing at three different points on the same road. Please share this episode with friends or family that want answers about knee pain or pressure with deep bending positions. Ep #247 Healthy Movement 101
Healthy Movement 101: What You Can Control, What's Stealing Your Movement, and the Gap Between ThemThis is the foundational episode — the one to start with, and the one to share when someone asks what healthy movement actually is.We cover a lot of ground. First, what you can control: why holding any position too long lets the tissues around your joints slowly deform and quiet the muscles that stabilize them, why keeping your strength is one of the highest-leverage things you can do, what stretching and mobility work actually change, and how sleep, stress, and nutrition support the system. Then, what steals your movement: a layer of motion deep inside the joint that is not under your voluntary control, how it can begin to fail before you feel anything, and the cycle that follows — what the research calls arthrogenic muscle inhibition, and what I call the Silent Shutdown Cycle. And finally, the gap between the two: the things you can do act on the layer you can reach, while the decline begins in the layer you cannot.Along the way we stay honest about what the research establishes and what I am proposing from what I see in my studio. If you have ever done everything right and still felt yourself getting tighter, stiffer, or less capable with the years, this episode explains why. Hosted on Acast. Ep# 246 Why You Wake Up Stiff, Tight, and Sore
You wake up stiff. Your back, your hips, your feet take a while to loosen up. You stretch, it helps for an hour, and the tightness comes right back. Most of us call this aging and move on.In this episode, movement coach Kim Nartker explains what is actually happening — a documented process the research calls arthrogenic muscle inhibition, and what she calls the Silent Shutdown Cycle. You'll learn why your tightness is a signal from the joint, not a short muscle; why stretching never seems to hold; and how this cycle can run silently for years before pain ever shows up. Kim shares three real case studies of hypermobile women who woke up in pain with no injury, and what changed when they stopped chasing the symptom and started supporting the system underneath it.If you have tightness that appears and lingers, this episode explains why — and what you can actually do about it.https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=319744 Hosted on Acast. Ep #245 What Is Healthy Movement
Key PointsKeywordshealthy movement, movement system, joint health, pain management, functional movement, aging, muscle function, mobility, nervous system, joint spaceSummaryIn this conversation, Kim discusses the concept of healthy movement, emphasizing the importance of understanding the movement system that governs our physical capabilities. She explains how aging and pain are often misinterpreted, and introduces the idea of a silent shutdown cycle that leads to joint restrictions and functional decline. Kim advocates for a proactive approach to maintaining movement health through awareness and targeted practices.TakeawaysHealthy movement is about the integrated health of your movement system.Pain is often a late signal of deeper issues. The movement system includes joints, muscles, and nerves working together.Range of motion alone does not indicate overall movement health.Joint restrictions can occur without immediate pain signals. The nervous system plays a crucial role in movement restrictions.Functional joint space is essential for healthy movement. The silent shutdown cycle can lead to chronic pain and mobility issues.Healthy movement can be measured and scored for better awareness.A proactive approach to movement health can enhance quality of life.titlesUnlocking the Secrets of Healthy MovementSound Bites00:00 "Healthy movement is a lifelong approach."Chapters00:00 Understanding Healthy Movement02:51 The Movement System Explained05:43 The Silent Shutdown Cycle and Its Implications Hosted on Acast. Ep #242: How To Relieve Neck Tightness For Good
Your neck tightness is not a muscle problem. And that is the whole reason your neck tightness never goes away. You stretch it. It feels better for a moment. Then the tightness comes right back. You have been told this is tight muscles and bad posture. The research tells a different story. In this episode Coach Kim explains the real reason your neck stays tight. The tightness you feel is more complex than what you have been taught to understand. The problem lies deeper, in your cervical joints. They have lost functional joint space and your nervous system has quietly switched off the deep muscles that support your neck joints. The big muscles take over and grip to brace those joints, limiting how far they can now move. That bracing is the tightness you feel. Coach Kim calls this the Silent Shutdown Cycle and it runs silently for years before pain ever shows up.In this episode, you will learn why stretching only provides short term relief. Why neck tightness shows up long before neck pain. Why posture is not the full story. And why neck tightness peaks in midlife and hits women hardest. Most people wait for pain to act. Coach Kim works upstream of pain. She built a way to measure your tightness before it becomes something bigger. You will learn what is really happening inside the joint. You will learn why your hip flexors stay tight no matter how much you stretch them. You will learn how sitting and stress and dropping estrogen and old injuries all stack up until one day your body says it cannot move for you anymore. This is not about pain. It is about the quiet decline that starts in your 20s and shows up in your 50s. The Silent Shutdown Cycle. The good news. You can catch it. You can change it. Ep #238: The Movement Health Score: The Test That Predicts How Well You Live And Move
Your Movement Health Score may be the single most important number nobody has ever measured for you. In this episode, Kim Nartker pulls apart the word healthy and shows why most of us are only tracking one or two layers of it while the layer that decides how well we move gets ignored completely. It starts with her husband in the recliner. He asked her to work on his neck. She asked him to turn his head. He said he felt fine and had no pain. He had quietly lost about half the rotation in his neck and had no idea. That is the trap. We were all handed the same broken measuring stick that says no pain means healthy. Pain is one of the last things to show up.You will learn what every current health test actually measures and what every single one of them misses. You will hear the research tying how well you move to how long you live, including a study of more than three thousand adults followed for over a decade. And you will learn how the Movement Health Score catches the silent decline at the stage where the work can still bring it back.If you have been feeling something nobody has explained to you, this episode names it. Ep #237: Women's Movement Health: How Menopause Affects You
Peter Attia and Dr. Abbie Smith Ryan had a powerful conversation on Women's Health and Performance. They covered training nutrition and hormones across life stages. But two questions hung in the air without answers. Why are older adults falling when they get bumped? And why is Dr. Abbie afraid of tearing her Achilles tendon when she trains?I am bringing the missing piece. The joint capsule and the deep stabilizer shut down that lives upstream of every muscle and tendon conversation happening in menopause health right now.In this episode, you will learn what metabolic flexibility means for your muscles and your joints. Why are your Type II fast-twitch fibers the ones that catch you when you trip? Why do tendons get more fragile after estrogen drops? And the five-step order that protects your movement system so you can train hard and load safely without ending up in the surgery line.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at our Beckett Ridge studio. Ep #236: Why Menopause Quietly Sets Up a Shoulder Tear Before You Feel It
Menopause shoulder pain is the warning signal most women miss until they are scheduled for surgery. In this episode, I walk through a real case from my studio. A 53-year-old woman in menopause came in with a Mobility Health Score of 85. Within 30 days, her score rose to 33, and her Movement Age moved from 85 to 81. She was getting better in measurable ways. Then she lifted a suitcase on a work trip. Now she is scheduled for rotator cuff surgery. This episode answers the question that the case raises. How can someone be getting better and tearing at the same time? The answer is the Musculoskeletal Syndrome of Menopause. Estrogen withdrawal hits every joint capsule, muscle, tendon, ligament, and bone at the same time. Research shows women with estrogen deficiency have 48 percent higher odds of rotator cuff repair. Frozen shoulder rates are also higher in women not on hormone therapy. The Silent Shutdown Cycle runs faster and louder in a menopausal body, and pain is the last signal, not the first.I walk through the case. I explain the deconditioning cascade. I show why symptom-directed care misses the shoulder until it tears. And I lay out what frequency of work the research supports for women in perimenopause and post menopause.FREE SELF TEST:GO TO OUR WEBSITE AND TAKE THE FREE SELF-TEST: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/health-test/Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility session here: https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933Test. EP #235: Healthy Movement Self Test: 7 Tests for Your Mobility Score
The Healthy Movement Self Test is the at-home assessment most adults need before they ever need a doctor. In this episode of The Stretch Mobility Coaching Podcast, Kim Nartker walks you through seven simple movements you can do at home in five minutes that reveal whether your healthy movement system is working or quietly shutting down.Pain is the last signal your body sends. Not the first. By the time something hurts, the work that creates the pain has been running for years. The signals that come before pain are the ones that matter. Tightness. Stiffness. Soreness. A joint that catches when you reach. A range of motion that is not what it used to be.Most adults brush these off as aging. They are not aging. They are early signals from a system that has started to silently shut down.Inside this episode, you will learn the 7 specific tests that surface silent decline. You will hear the peer-reviewed research that proves joint mobility is a survival variable, including the Araujo 2024 mortality study and the 12.4-year healthspan gap published in JAMA Network Open. You will learn how to read your Healthy Movement Self Score and what each failed test is telling you about your body. You will also learn the order that actually reverses decline. Joint capsule first. Deep stabilizers second. Strength last. Most adults are working in the wrong order, which is why their efforts have not held.Take the free Healthy Movement Self Test at https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/health-test/. Ep #233: Why Physical Therapy Did Not Fix Your Hip
There is a question a surprising number of people have stopped asking out loud. Why did physical therapy help for two weeks and then stop? Kim Nartker walks through what a 2014 randomized controlled trial in JAMA found when it compared standard PT to a sham treatment for hip osteoarthritis — and what 25 years of published research on Arthrogenic Muscle Inhibition tells us about the system underneath the muscles that standard PT does not test for. Ep #231: Your Rotator Cuff Is Not the Problem. Here Is What Is Actually Happening in Your Shoulder and What Your Upper Back Has To Do With It.
In this episode, I’m breaking down why your rotator cuff is not actually the root cause of your shoulder pain. If you’ve been stretching, strengthening, or doing physical therapy and your symptoms keep coming back, there’s a reason.I explain what’s really happening inside your shoulder, starting with the joint capsule and how a silent loss of end-range motion triggers muscle shutdown, instability, and compensation patterns. Over time, this leads to common diagnoses like impingement, tendonitis, and tears.I also connect the role of your thoracic spine, because if your upper back isn’t moving, your shoulder can’t function properly. You’ll learn the early warning signs of shoulder decline, why traditional approaches often fail, and what you can do to protect your mobility before pain and damage set in.Get your 📥 Free Shoulder Mobility Self-Check Here so you can identify limitations and start addressing the real problem.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #230: What Your Doctor Actually Means Decoding the Language of Healthcare So You Stop Feeling Like the Problem
In this episode, I’m breaking down the language of healthcare so you can stop feeling like you’re the problem. After more than 20 years inside the system, I’ve seen how documentation is written for insurance and legal protection, not for you. That’s why phrases like “non-compliant,” “no clinical evidence,” or “patient appears to…” can feel personal, even when they’re not.I walk you through what these terms actually mean, why they’re used, and how they often reflect system limitations, not your effort or experience. If you’ve ever felt dismissed, confused, or blamed after a visit, this will give you clarity.More importantly, I explain the gap between what you feel and what healthcare can measure, and why that gap matters. When you understand it, you can stop second-guessing yourself and start taking control of your movement, your health, and what to do next.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #229: Why Your Muscles Are Always Tight And What Is Actually Happening in Your Body (The Science behind The Silent Shutdown Cycle™: why stretching does not work and what actually does)
In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on what’s really causing your muscles to feel tight all the time and why chasing quick fixes hasn’t worked. I introduce what I call the Silent Shutdown Cycle—a predictable, progressive process happening inside your body long before pain ever shows up.I walk you through how joint restriction leads to muscle inhibition, compensation, and eventually breakdown, even if you’re stretching, strengthening, or doing “all the right things.” If you’ve ever said, “I feel fine, I just feel tight,” this episode is for you. We’ll reframe how you think about pain, aging, and “root cause,” and I’ll show you why tightness is actually a signal, not the problem. Most importantly, I’ll explain what your body is trying to tell you right now and how to take back control before it turns into something bigger. If you’re ready to stop guessing and start understanding your body, this is where it starts.Download your free mobility guide and take your first step toward lasting relief: https://api.leadconnectorhq.com/widget/form/WskE7GNM5lw4EaT5R9s7Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #228: Why Your Heel Hurts in the Morning And What Your Hip Has to Do With It
If you’ve ever stepped out of bed and felt that sharp, stabbing heel pain, this episode is for you. Today, I’m breaking down what’s really going on and why your hip plays a much bigger role in your heel pain than you think.I walk you through how your foot actually functions as a complex movement system, how those 33 joints are meant to work together, and what happens when they start to lose mobility. More importantly, I connect the dots between your foot and your hip so you can finally understand why this pain keeps coming back, even if stretching or rolling seems to help temporarily. This episode will change the way you think about plantar fasciitis, stiffness, and “tight” muscles. I’ll also explain the silent decline happening in your joints and what you can do to stop it.Download your free foot mobility guide and take your first step toward lasting relief: https://api.leadconnectorhq.com/widget/form/WskE7GNM5lw4EaT5R9s7Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #227: Why Your Hips Are So Tight and What Is Actually Happening Inside the Joint
In this episode, I break down why your hips feel tight and why that tightness keeps coming back, even if you’re stretching, strengthening, or getting treatment. I explain what’s really happening inside your hip joint and introduce the concept of hip joint decline, a silent loss of mobility that most people don’t catch until pain shows up.You’ll learn how this decline affects your muscles, nervous system, and movement patterns, often leading to compensation and even low back pain. I also explain the difference between decline and diagnosable dysfunction, and why traditional care often misses this early stage. Most importantly, I share how you can take control of your hip health before it progresses and what steps to take next.Download your FREE Guide → https://api.leadconnectorhq.com/widget/form/WskE7GNM5lw4EaT5R9s7Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #226: What Your Shoes Are Doing to Your Feet (And What to Do About It) Part 2 of 2
I continue our discussion on what your shoes may be doing to your feet and why it matters for your entire body. Last week, I broke down the complex structure of the foot and explained how joints in the ankle, subtalar joint, and midfoot work together to create stability and movement.Today, I explain what happens when those joints begin to lose end-range mobility. When that mobility is lost, pressure shifts through the foot and creates a cascade that can lead to plantar fasciitis, bunions, hammer toes, and pain that travels up the chain into the knees, hips, and low back.I also talk about how modern footwear can contribute to these issues by limiting the natural mechanics your feet need to function properly. Most importantly, I explain why stretching or massage alone won’t restore joint mobility and why proper testing and mobility restoration are key to preventing bigger problems later.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #225: What Your Shoes Are Doing to Your Feet (And What to Do About It) Part 1/2 Episodes
In this episode of the Stretch Mobility Coaching Podcast, I talk about what your shoes may actually be doing to your feet and why that can affect your knees, hips, and low back. Many modern shoes are designed for comfort, with thick cushioning and rigid structures, but these features can quietly change how the joints and muscles in your feet function over time. I break down how the foot and ankle system works, how restricted joint motion and weakened foot muscles can begin what I call the “silent shutdown cycle,” and why common conditions like plantar fasciitis, bunions, and hammer toes often develop. This is part one of a deeper conversation about how foot mechanics influence the entire body.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #224: The Barefoot Truth: Why Your Feet Are Silently Failing You and What to Do About It (Part 2 of 2)
In Part 2 of The Barefoot Truth, I’m breaking down one of the biggest myths in movement today. Sitting all day is not ideal. But standing all day is not the fix either. With spring finally arriving here in Ohio, it’s the perfect time to rethink how we move. In this episode, I share research on prolonged standing, foot pain, low back pain, and why simply switching to a standing desk does not solve the real issue. The problem is not sitting versus standing. It is joint decline and muscle shutdown. We also unpack barefoot shoes, orthotics, and the truth about footwear. The right choice depends on the health of your joints and muscles, not trends.Inspired by the healthspan concept discussed by Peter Attia, I explain why protecting your movement system is key to living well longer. If you want lasting mobility, this episode gives you the roadmap.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933----------✊🏻 Become a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach✨ Open A Stretch Mobility Coaching StudioDid you enjoy this episode? Ep #222: How to Stop Losing the Way You Move: 7 Behaviors That Are Shutting Your Body Down
In this episode of the Stretch Mobility Coaching Podcast, I’m unpacking the silent shutdown cycle that may be quietly stealing the way you move — even if you’re doing all the “right” things. You’re working out, stretching, strength training, and investing in recovery… so why are joint replacements, back pain, and mobility loss still rising?I break down the seven behaviors that are shutting your body down, including stretching muscles that aren’t actually tight, adding strength to joints that aren’t functioning, relying on recovery tools without testing your mobility, and waiting for pain to tell you something is wrong. Pain is the last signal — not the first. We’ll also cover the five drivers of healthy movement and why joint health and muscle health must come first. Ep #221: Snow Related Tightness: It's a Thing
In this episode, I’m coming to you from snowy Ohio, where the cold and relentless shoveling have a lot of people feeling tight, stiff, and old weeks after the snow is gone. If you shoveled, felt fine at the time, and now your back or hips feel off, this episode is for you.I break down why snow shoveling causes delayed tightness and soreness, even when you use good mechanics and don’t feel pain right away. I explain what’s really happening inside your joints and nervous system, including a powerful concept called arthrogenic muscle inhibition, and how your stabilizing muscles can silently shut down and stay off. You’ll learn why pain shows up last, why normal scans often miss the problem, and how the silent shutdown cycle leads to recurring stiffness and back issues. Ep #220: The Silent Decline That Is Happening in Your Joints: Get Your Flexibility Health Score Today
In today’s episode, I’m breaking down what I call the compensation cascade and the silent shutdown cycle that happens inside your body long before pain ever shows up. I explain how one joint not moving properly can trigger a chain reaction from your feet all the way up to your neck, creating tightness, stiffness, and soreness that most people mistake for normal aging.Your bunion isn’t just a toe problem. Your knee pain isn’t just a knee issue. Your tight hips and sore back are often part of a deeper movement breakdown that started years ago without symptoms. Pain is actually the last warning sign, not the first.I walk you through how this cycle starts, how the nervous system and joint health are connected, and why treating isolated symptoms never truly fixes the problem. I walk through the predictable changes that happen in your 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond, and why your 40s are the most powerful intervention window. Ep #218: Why You Think Physical Therapy Didn’t Work and What You Can Do About It
In this episode, I’m diving into a question I hear all the time: why didn’t physical therapy hold, and why did the pain come back? I spent over 20 years inside the physical therapy system, and today I’m breaking down what most people never get explained. This is not an attack on PT. Physical therapists do incredible work. But the system itself is built around symptom management, not long-term movement health.I explain how insurance-driven goals often stop care once pain is “manageable,” even when the underlying movement dysfunction is still there. We’ll talk about compensation patterns, deep stabilizer muscles, joint decline, and why stretching and strengthening alone often aren’t enough to create lasting change. If you’ve done PT, chiropractic care, massage, or injections and still feel stuck in the same cycle, this episode is for you. You’ll learn what may have been missed, why your body keeps protecting itself, and what you can do differently to restore movement, flexibility, and confidence for good.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #217: New Year’s Resolutions: Have You Gotten Your Flexibility Health Tested?
In this New Year episode, I talk about something most people never think to test until pain forces their hand: flexibility and movement health. I share a real story from the clinic that shows how someone can feel “fine,” work out regularly, and still be quietly declining beneath the surface.I explain the difference between chronological age and movement age, why stiffness is an early warning sign, and how your nervous system compensates long before pain ever shows up. We dig into the silent decline cycle, the role of deep stabilizing muscles versus larger movement muscles, and why tightness is not just annoying, it is urgent.I also break down why pain is not the beginning of the problem, but the end of your body’s ability to hide it, and why waiting for pain often leads to symptom-based care instead of real solutions. If your New Year’s goal is to move better, stay strong, and protect your future, this episode will change how you think about flexibility forever.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #216: A Healthspan Recap of What We Learned in 2025
Happy New Year, and welcome back to the Stretch Mobility Coaching Podcast. In this episode, I’m taking the opportunity to reflect on what we uncovered over the past year about Movement Health and why it matters far more than most people realize.I recap the biggest insights from my research and in-studio work, including how movement health is different from longevity, wellness, and traditional healthcare, and why stiffness, tightness, and soreness are not just “normal aging.” I walk you through what movement health actually means, how joint capsules and the nervous system play a central role, and why pain is not a reliable indicator of whether your body is truly healthy or ready to move.I also share real client case studies from the studio, showing how stress, travel, holidays, and daily life quietly push the body into a state of movement decline, even in active, motivated people. You’ll hear exactly how flexibility resets work, what happens when deep stabilizing muscles shut down, and why stretching, massage, and workouts alone often miss the root problem. If you want to live longer and still move well, lift, run, travel, play with your kids or grandkids, and feel confident in your body at any age, this episode will help you see movement health through a completely new lens. I also share what’s coming next for the podcast, updates on my upcoming book, and how you can start taking control of your movement health now. Thanks for being here, and here’s to a year of moving better, not just longer.Get Your Free Copy of “Why Am I So Tight?Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #215: Healthcare vs Healthspan: Why Joint Health is Not Covered By Health Insurance
In this episode, I’m breaking down the difference between healthcare and healthspan and explaining why joint health is not covered by insurance.I talk about how your body actually works as a movement system, why tightness is an early warning sign of joint decline, and what’s really happening inside your joints, muscles, and nervous system long before pain shows up. I also answer the question I get all the time, “Does insurance cover this?” and why that question reveals a misunderstanding that’s costing people their independence. You’ll learn why stretching and strengthening alone don’t fix joint decline, how compensation quietly leads to stiffness, muscle loss, arthritis, and surgery, and what you can do now to protect your movement for life.I also explain what a flexibility health score is, why it matters, and how working with a Stretch Mobility Coach helps restore joint motion, reactivate deep stabilizing muscles, and reverse what most people accept as normal aging.Healthcare keeps you alive. Healthspan keeps you living. Ep #214: The Hidden Cost Of Tightness
In today’s episode, I’m breaking down the hidden cost of tightness and why it’s not just a muscle issue you can stretch away. Tightness is one of the earliest warning signs that joint decline and muscle loss have already started, long before pain ever shows up.I explain what’s really happening inside your joints, muscles, and nervous system when you wake up stiff, feel locked up after sitting, or notice movement is getting harder. We talk about why tightness is often mistaken for “normal aging,” how it quietly leads to weakness, arthritis, and loss of independence, and why waiting for pain puts you years behind.I also walk you through the two paths in front of you, continuing down the slow decline most people accept, or taking control by restoring joint motion, muscle health, and movement confidence early. If you’ve been stretching and strengthening, but still feel tight or off, this episode will change how you view your body and what it needs.Tightness is not normal. It’s a signal. Ep #213: What Stretch Mobility Coaches Do: Why Your Stretching Will Not Improve Your Flexibility Long Term
In today’s episode, I’m sharing what stretch mobility coaching actually is and why stretching, foam rolling, and mobility drills don’t fix flexibility long term.If you feel tight, stiff, or sore no matter how much you stretch, this episode is for you. I explain why tightness is not an aging issue or a muscle problem, but a joint and nervous system problem. When joints lose normal motion, the nervous system tightens muscles and shuts down deep stabilizers, which is why tightness keeps coming back. You’ll learn how Stretch Mobility Coaches work differently by restoring joint motion first, reactivating deep stabilizing muscles, and rebuilding movement health so flexibility returns naturally and holds. We also talk about why compensations show up as balance issues, fatigue, slower recovery, and feeling like movement is harder than it should be.If you’ve been guessing, stretching more, or working harder with no lasting change, this episode will help you understand what’s really going on and what to do next. Tightness is common, but it’s not normal, and it can be reversed.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? EP #212: You Can Prevent Low Back Surgery. Here’s How.
In this episode, I’m talking about low back surgery and how you can prevent it. If you’re experiencing tightness or discomfort in your lower back and worry it might lead to surgery, this episode is for you.I break down how most spinal issues—herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, and spinal stenosis—develop slowly over time and why pain is usually the last signal your body gives.I explain how joint capsule restrictions, muscle shutdown, and poor spinal glide set the stage for injury, and why traditional approaches like stretching, massage, or rehab alone aren’t enough.I show how testing your flexibility biomarker and resetting your system can restore joint health, improve muscle activation, prevent degeneration, and stop back problems before surgery becomes necessary.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #211: You Can Avoid a Shoulder Surgery. Here’s How.
In this episode, I’m talking about shoulders, shoulder surgeries, and how to prevent them. Many of us think rotator cuff tears, labral injuries, or shoulder replacements are inevitable, especially if our parents had them—but that’s not true. I break down how joint capsule health, flexibility loss, and silent mechanical stress set the stage for injury long before pain shows up. I share how early signs—tightness, clicking, or limited overhead motion—signal deeper issues, and why stretching or physical therapy alone isn’t enough. I explain how testing your flexibility biomarker and resetting your shoulder system can restore glide, retrain stabilizers, prevent micro tears, and protect your joint long term. Ep #210: Could Your Workout be Decreasing Your Flexibility? Learn more.
In this episode, I dive into a topic most people in their thirties, forties, and fifties overlook. You’re working out harder than ever—lifting, running, stretching, doing yoga, and cardio—but still gaining midsection weight, feeling tight, and wondering why results aren’t matching your effort. The truth? It’s not your discipline—it’s the system you’re training on. Most people over 40 are damaging their joints long before pain shows up. I share real client stories, explain how joint capsule restrictions shut down stabilizers, trigger muscle wasting, slow metabolism, and accelerate aging. Stretching, foam rolling, or training harder won’t fix it. I reveal how flexibility testing and system resets restore joint glide, fire stabilizers, and calm the nervous system, helping you finally see the results you’ve been chasing. Ep #209: Flexibility 101
In this episode, I’m diving into something most people misunderstand completely: flexibility. Not the “touch your toes” kind, but the real, foundational kind that affects your health span, your longevity, your balance, your strength, and honestly, the way you move through every decade of your life.I’m breaking down why you don’t lose flexibility just because you stopped stretching. What’s actually happening is far deeper. Your joints begin losing their natural glide, the space inside them starts to narrow, and your muscles tighten to protect what your body can no longer trust. Those tiny changes you feel when you wake up stiff, turn slower, or struggle to get to the floor? They’re early signals that your flexibility system is shifting. In this Flexibility 101 episode, I walk you through the six domains that make up your body’s flexibility toolkit. We’re talking readiness, mobility, deep stability, strength, recovery, and composition. Each of these plays a critical role in how your joints move, how your nervous system responds, and how your muscles stay active and strong.I also dig into what happens when flexibility slips away silently over the years, why your reaction time changes, why your posture shifts, why your muscles feel tight even after stretching, and how this all connects to joint health, aging, and the long game of staying capable in your seventies, eighties, and beyond. And before we get into the weeds, I give credit where it’s due. Dr. Peter Attia’s conversation around lifespan and health span set the stage for this deeper look at movement. I’m zooming in on the missing side of that equation: how maintaining healthy joint motion and muscle activation keeps your body young on the inside. If you care about staying mobile, strong, and independent for as long as you’re alive, this episode is your roadmap. Grab your earbuds and let’s talk about the real foundation of movement longevity.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #208: You Stretch, Train, and “Do All the Right Things”… But Your Body Still Feels Older Every Year. Here’s Why.
In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on something we all rely on but rarely question—the healthcare system. We’ve been led to believe it’s here to keep us healthy, but the truth is, it’s built to manage sickness, not prevent it.I’m breaking down what the system was actually designed for, why it quietly conditions us to wait for symptoms before taking action, and how that mindset is fueling chronic conditions across the country. We’ll talk about how modern fitness and “quick fix” treatments—massage, PT, chiropractic, stretching, even weight loss drugs—often keep us stuck in the same reactive loop. Then, I’ll show you what real prevention looks like: restoring your flexibility, testing your movement health, and rebuilding from the joint capsule out. Because your movement is your foundation—and once you lose it, everything else follows. If you’ve ever wondered why you’re doing all the right things but still feel stiff, tired, or stuck in pain, this episode is going to connect the dots for you.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? EP #207: The Movement Paradigm Needs To Change: Here's Why
I’m taking a hard look at the current healthcare and fitness paradigm—and why it’s failing us when it comes to true movement health. We’ve been taught to believe that stretching, strength training, and pushing through fatigue mean our bodies are “fine.” But the truth is, many of us are silently breaking down at the joint level without even realizing it. I share the story of a client in her 30s who was doing everything right—walking daily, training with a personal trainer, staying active—yet her body was already in decline because her joint capsules had become unhealthy. You’ll learn how bone glide, joint capsule health, and muscle activation are all connected—and why ignoring early signs of restriction can fast-track you toward pain, degeneration, and even surgery. I’ll also explain how flexibility testing as a biomarker can reveal the real state of your body before symptoms ever show up.If you’ve ever felt frustrated by vague aches, stiffness, or “nothing’s wrong” diagnoses, this episode will help you understand what’s really going on—and how to take back control of your movement health before it’s too late.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #206: The Hidden Key to Movement Health: How the Joint Capsule Remodels and Why It’s the Missing Link in Longevity
In today’s episode, I’m diving into one of the most overlooked structures in your body when it comes to movement health: the joint capsule. I’ll explain what it is, why it’s critical for how you move, age, and feel, and how it can go from healthy to unhealthy without you even realizing it.I break down the three stages of joint capsule health, how restrictions happen, and why traditional stretching or strengthening alone isn’t enough to restore proper movement. You’ll also hear how my joint optimization and muscle optimization techniques, combined with red light therapy, help remodel tissue, restore glide, and improve muscle activation for lasting results. If you’ve been feeling stiff, losing flexibility, or just want to protect your joints as you age, this episode is for you. Ep #205: The Knee Joint Capsule: The Missing Link in Movement Health
If you’ve ever wondered why your knees feel stiff, why you lose smooth movement as you age, or why injuries seem to happen out of nowhere… this episode is going to change how you think about knee health forever.I’ll walk you through the science of movement longevity and break down what happens when the knee capsule loses its natural “slide and glide.” You’ll learn how this tiny structure controls movement, stability, and even the way your brain senses your knee position — and why restoring capsule health is the true foundation for joint health (not just stretching or strengthening).I’ll also share how a Stretch Mobility Coach uses The Stretch Method to rehydrate the capsule, realign collagen fibers, and retrain muscle control — creating lasting improvements in flexibility, strength, and overall movement quality.By the end of this episode, you’ll understand:The 3 key roles of the knee capsule and how it affects your joint healthWhy are tightness and stiffness early warning signs of capsule restrictionHow The Stretch Method restores healthy glide, nutrition, and joint functionWhat to expect as your capsule heals and your movement transformsHealthy movement starts from the inside out — and flexibility is a biomarker of movement health. So grab your headphones, tune in, and let’s restore the foundation of your knee health together.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #204: Don’t Wait Until Your Body Breaks: The Urgency of Testing Movement Readiness
In this episode, I dive into why waiting until your body “breaks” is the absolute worst approach. I share real stories of athletes—a high school cross-country runner and wrestler, and a former top doubles tennis player—who were struggling with stiffness, fatigue, and silent muscles that were limiting their performance. We’ll talk about how joint glide, muscle activation, and movement readiness are often overlooked, why traditional rehab and strength training sometimes aren’t enough, and how MAPP testing can pinpoint exactly what’s holding you back. I’ll show you how optimizing your body now can prevent bigger issues later and keep you moving at your best.If you’ve ever felt tight, off, or like your body isn’t performing like it should, this episode is for you. Ep #203: Hydration and Cramping: Could My Spasming Be More Than Hydration?
Today, I want to bust a big myth in sports about muscle cramps and spasms. Most people assume they’re just caused by dehydration or low electrolytes—but what if that nagging cramp or spasm is actually a sign that your body isn’t fully ready to move?In this episode, I break down how healthy flexibility and movement readiness play a major role in preventing cramps, whether you’re a teenage athlete, an adult soccer player, or just someone who wants to move better. We’ll talk about how tight or restricted joints can cause muscles to “silence” themselves, leading to weakness, spasms, and delayed recovery—even if you’re drinking plenty of water.I’ll walk you through how joint and muscle optimization, combined with our proprietary testing methods, can identify the areas that need attention and help you regain strength, mobility, and confidence in your movement. If you’ve been struggling with recurring cramps or tightness, this episode will give you a fresh perspective on why hydration isn’t the whole story—and what you can do about it.Tune in to learn how to keep your body cramp-free, ready to move, and performing at its best.Book your Unlock Healthy Joint Mobility Session at https://www.wellnessliving.com/rs/appointment-start.html?id_class_tab=3&id_mode=1&k_business=770209&k_class_tab=78026&k_service=310933-----------If you are interested in becoming a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach, schedule with me using this link: https://thestretchmobilitycoach.com/beckett/Did you enjoy this episode? Ep #202: Your Elbow Is Weak: Could It Be Related to Flexibility?
In this episode of the Stretch Mobility Coaching Podcast, I’m diving into one of the most overlooked issues I see in the gym and in daily life—nagging elbow aches and weakness. You know the feeling: it’s not painful enough to stop you from working out, but it keeps showing up during curls, presses, pulls, or even when you’re just going about your day. What if I told you the real problem isn’t your elbow at all? In this episode, I break down why the elbow often takes the load when your shoulder, wrist, or even your spine isn’t moving the way it should. I’ll explain how unhealthy flexibility in key areas of your body can silence muscles, disrupt movement, and leave your elbow carrying the burden. You’ll learn:Why the elbow is more like a “middleman” than the root of the problemHow unhealthy flexibility in your neck, thoracic spine, shoulders, and wrists shows up as elbow pain or weaknessWhat joint optimization and muscle activation really mean—and why they’re the key to lasting strength and movement healthWhy wait until it hurts (or bracing, stretching, and masking symptoms) only delays your recoveryIf you’ve been rubbing, stretching, or massaging your elbow without lasting relief, this episode will give you a whole new perspective. Ep #201: Healthy Hip Flexibility: What Is Healthy and Unhealthy When It Comes to the Hip
In this episode of Stretch Mobility Coaching, I dive into the science behind flexibility and why it’s one of the most important biomarkers for healthy movement. Using the hip joint as an example, I break down how healthy flexibility should look and feel, what happens when it’s lost, and why that matters for long-term joint health, muscle strength, and even disease prevention.I’ll walk you through what’s really going on in the capsule, ligaments, muscles, and fascia when flexibility becomes unhealthy—and how that can lead to weakness, stiffness, joint instability, and even systemic issues like sarcopenia. To bring this to life, I also share two real client stories from my studio. You’ll hear how small changes in hip mobility showed up in their lives, what we found during testing, and how a reset and muscle optimization helped them regain healthier movement. If you’ve ever wondered why your hips feel “off,” why stiffness creeps in, or how flexibility ties directly to your long-term health, this episode will give you clarity and practical insight.-----------✊🏻 Become a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach✨ Open A Stretch Mobility Coaching StudioDid you enjoy this episode? Ep #199: Defining the Lane of Stretch Mobility Coaching
In this episode, I break down exactly where Stretch Mobility Coaching fits in the movement health space. With so many providers out there—PTs, chiropractors, trainers, massage therapists, yoga instructors—it can get confusing for both clients and professionals to understand who does what and how outcomes differ.I share why Stretch Mobility Coaching is the missing link for movement readiness and healthy flexibility, and how our proactive approach keeps people doing what they love without being sidelined by breakdown. You’ll hear how we collaborate—not compete—with other providers, plus real client stories that show how this lane fills a critical gap between therapy, training, and performance. If you’ve ever wondered what makes Stretch Mobility Coaching different, why it matters for long-term movement health, and how it works hand-in-hand with other professions, this episode will give you clarity.-----------✊🏻 Become a Certified Stretch Mobility Coach✨ Open A Stretch Mobility Coaching StudioDid you enjoy this episode? ABOUT THIS SHOW
Founder of Stretch Mobility Coach™ and Creator of The Stretch Method®Kim Nartker is a healthy movement pioneer who spent more than 20 years studying how the body moves only to discover the truth most of us were never taught: stiffness and tightness are not aging.
