The disciples needed to obey because it was Jesus who sent them. Obedience in evangelism is a key and often neglected starting point. In the light of this, he ended the talk by asking:Who are you sharing Good News of Jesus with?What distracts you from this important commission?How are you learning dependence on God and others?

Jesus willingly went to Jerusalem even though he would suffer and be crucified there. Take some time to thank God for the example we have in Jesus of faithfulness in the face of suffering.How do we respond to people that reject us because of our faithfulness to Jesus? Is it with kindness and love or anger?The three people that Jesus meets on the road are all made aware of the cost of following him. The three key challenges that Jesus makes them aware of in following him are to do with possessions, priorities and people. What does it look like for you to make Jesus Lord in each of these areas? What might it mean for you to wholeheartedly follow Jesus in regards to these things? What challenges you at the moment?

What stops us from allowing Jesus to deal with our shame in our place?The Paralysed Man and the Bleeding Woman (both Matt 9) are healed. Jesus forgives the man and commends them both for their faith. As a result, onlookers are amazed. How is your testimony of Jesus lifting you from shame, pointing others to Jesus?

What does it mean for us to see Jesus in this way? v52 shows us that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature as a young man. What can we learn about faith and obedience from that? Mary's Song was a response of joy toward God. Real worship is initiated by the Holy Spirit and is a response toward God. What are you rejoicing about in your life this week? Mary's Song reminds us of the nature of God's kingdom as opposed to the kingdoms of this world. What do we learn about God and His way of doing things from these verses?
