Delegating Effectively So Your Team Stops Guessing and Starts Winning (Ep 104)
Ever catch yourself thinking, “Why can’t they just figure it out?” In this episode, Lauren Goldstein breaks down the No. 1 reason most business owners (and leaders) get frustrated with their teams: unspoken expectations. From client onboarding disasters to dropped balls to messy handoffs, Lauren explains how lack of clarity (not incompetence) is often the root cause.Drawing from her 7 C’s of a High-Performance Teams framework, Lauren reveals how “definition of done,” outcome-based delegation, and the five-question clarity check can radically improve execution speed, reduce bottlenecks, increase success (and profits) and unlock player-level performance. If you want a more accountable team, fewer interruptions, and a business that doesn’t rely on you to referee every decision, this episode is your new playbook.Mic-Drop Moments“Unshared expectations are nothing more than premeditated resentments.” - Lauren Goldstein“You can’t be disappointed when a team misses a target you never defined.”“Clarity is the cheapest performance enhancer and profit creator in business.”Episode Highlights[00:40] Why most business & team frustration is actually caused by ambiguity, not failure[02:30] The 7 C’s framework & why clarity is the first non-negotiable[04:45] The 5-question clarity test that stops rework, second-guessing & bottlenecks[08:10] Why ‘taking initiative’ requires rules of engagement + definition of done[11:20] From worker bees to players: how clarity changes ownership & culture[14:55] Reset conversations, real-world scripts & the ripple effect across a team-------------------------If you enjoyed this episode and it sparked something in you, please give us a 5-Star rating/review and share this with your friends and fellow business owners. Also, don’t forget to subscribe so you are the first to get notified when our next episode is live and ready for your ears.-------------------------Meet your host. Death by Meeting? How Leaders Cut Meeting Overload and Get 100 Hours Back (EP 98)
Let's be honest: you're spending half your week in meetings that accomplish very little. You know the ones. Someone drones on about updates that could've been a Slack message. Eight people sit there while two hash out something irrelevant. You walk out wondering "what did we just accomplish?" and immediately get pulled into another one.Meanwhile, the actual work that would grow your business and create momentum? Squeezed into the margins because your calendar looks like Tetris designed by a sadist. Here's what most people aren't saying: your meetings are probably broken. And it's likely costing you momentum, focus, and your team's sanity; not to mention your profitability. The good news? This is SO fixable. Whether you're dealing with meeting overload, ineffective leadership meetings, or a team drowning in calendar chaos, there's a better way to run your meeting and your business. In this episode, I'm walking you through the exact framework I use with my clients to cut the meeting madness. The four types of meetings you actually need, the metrics worth tracking, and how to give your team their time back. Here's what's waiting in the episode:[2:40] The 4 meeting types that create real momentum (not more busy work)[1:29] Why "leadership meetings" with everyone on the call tend to accomplish very little[3:53] The 3 questions that surface problems before they become dumpster fires[6:16] How to stop tracking vanity metrics and watch the numbers that better predict what's coming[10:15] The 1-3-1 rule that stops meetings from turning into complaint sessionsThe average employee spends 103 hours per year in unnecessary meetings. Woof. That's three full work weeks per person your team could spend shipping products, closing deals, and going home on time. Your meetings don't have to suck. Let The Biz Doctor® show you how to fix them.-------------------------If you enjoyed this episode and it sparked something in you, please give us a 5-Star rating/review and share this with your friends and fellow business owners. Have you ever invested so much time, money, and energy into a new employee only for them to quit after a short amount of time? Leaving you bewildered as to why.Or maybe you hired someone who you thought was a perfect fit only to discover things during onboarding that made it clear they were not a fit and you had to let them go within their first few days, weeks, or even their first month? It is basically the worst, isn’t it? In fact Lauren shares that she had two people in two days sending her emails about “burning through employees” or having to let someone go after THREE days… shesh. While she have yet to dig in deeper into why, her gut told her it is a few simple tweaks that would have made all the difference. We’ll be the first to admit that hitting the bullseye with new hires can be a challenge - that is if you don’t know how to ready, aim, fire - which is why we know today's episode is going to be so valuable for you.Welcome back to The Biz Doctor Podcast, with your host Lauren Goldstein. Would You Buy Your Business? (EP 71)
In this episode Lauren recalls talking to one of her favorite humans, Tim Francis the other day and as two operational experts they were discussing how often operational health gets overlooked. It is very sexy to have a million dollar business. But you know what is sexier? Having a highly profitable million dollar business with not only good cash flow, but a deep cushion of “free cash” in the bank. Welcome back to The Biz Doctor Podcast, today’s show is something that is top of mind for me and sure to be a perspective shifter so let’s dive in. Something that Lauren admits that irks her to no end are the smoke and mirrors 7-figure businesses and launches that look good on the face, but when you peel back the curtain the behind the scenes is a different story. Some might say Lauren is on a mission to end this silly braggadocious way of thinking about business because, let's face it… there is nothing sexy or fun about living on the edge with your business and going through the doldrums or worse revenue roller coaster fretting about how to make payroll. Which brings us back to the question… what if we built businesses with the end in mind? The end being an exit. What if we built, ran, and scaled our businesses asking this simple question “would I buy my business?”It's a good question, huh?Personally, we love the question because it forces us to take off the emotional glasses we normally view our businesses through and instead makes it objective, and dare we say vulnerable. Apples to apples. When you look at the team you have, the business's operational vitals, your profitability and balance sheet, and the kicker - YOU … if you were looking to buy a business, would you buy yours and pay a top multiple?-------------------------If you enjoyed this episode and it sparked something in you, please give us a 5 Star rating/review and share this with your friends and fellow business owners. How To Internally Promote The RIGHT Way (EP 59)
Do you have someone in your team who is a rockstar and you keep going back and forth on if you should promote them to a leadership position or not? Weighing the pros and cons while also secretly worrying that you might be promoting a high-performing team member to their detriment?Well, you aren’t alone and this is the very subject. We’re going to dive into it today. Welcome back to The Biz Doctor Podcast, with your host Lauren Goldstein.Today we’ll talk about how you can internally promote someone the right way to ensure more success, team harmony, and effectiveness.
