Episode 7 -- Jack Raines of Young Money Newsletter
Jack Raines, in his own words: "Who is Jack Raines?" That's a loaded question to answer for internet strangers, but I'll do my best. I'm a staff writer for Robinhood's media venture, Sherwood News, covering (in my opinion) the most interesting stories in business. Did you know that Blade, the luxury helicopter network, is actually America's largest organ transit network? Well, you do now. I wrote about it (the article is pinned in my features, check it out). I've been sharing personal musings about money, life, relationships, building your ideal career, and more in my blog, Young Money, since August 2021. 50,000+ people have subscribed, and millions of people have read my thoughts, which is, I think, pretty cool! You should subscribe too by clicking below. I graduated from Columbia Business School in May 2024, which was one of the best experiences of my life, and it gave me a terminal degree from a university that people actually recognize outside of the state of Georgia. (I have degrees in finance and Spanish from Mercer University, which I lovingly refer to as the Harvard of Macon, Georgia). In 2020, I generated a 6,000% return in 9 months by trading SPAC warrants in my Roth IRA. After the SPAC bubble popped and I lost half of those gains on a speculative, non-SPAC trade, I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Barcelona, and spent most of the following year traveling around Europe and Argentina before moving to NYC for business school. This was, without a doubt, the best use of one's SPAC trading gains at age 24. I also previously served as the Editor-in-Chief of Exec Sum, a large daily financial newsletter. I speak Spanish with the fluency of an underachieving 6-year-old Guatemalan child, I was deported from Norway in November 2021, and most of my career decisions stem from an existential crisis I had during a turbulent flight to Denver, Colorado in 2021. I appreciate those who pursue their interests, instead of the things that they believe others will find interesting, and I think any self-respecting man should be able to bench press 225 at least once. I also treat LinkedIn like a personal blog. You can check out Young Money blog here: https://www.youngmoney.co/
