Tanya Chomyk is the author of ‘Bringing Light to Loss’ a book which aims to help people redefine their grief, and reclaim hope and meaning. Having just lost her Father, Tanya found herself in the throes of grief once again, when her little boy Danilo died at just six months old. Taking hope and resilience from her 5 year old daughter, Larissa, Tanya learned how to cope with life again, manage the inevitable triggers and rebuild her future.

At just 29, Jenny Eastwood, has experienced multiple family bereavements in very quick succession, losing her Mum and Dad less than four years apart, as well as her cousin, Julianne in the middle of both her parents deaths. On this episode of The Grief Pod, Jenny discusses the magnitude of such loss at such a young age, and in such a short space of time, how she’s coping with her grief and how she remains optimistic for the future.

After three month battle, Neil lost his life to pancreatic cancer, in 1993, aged just 40. In this episode of The Grief Pod, Deirdre talks about her and Neil’s incredible love story against a difficult backdrop, her letter to her two young daughters after Neil died, which was the foundation of the book, running the business while navigating her grief, and her ‘happy ever after’ with her new husband Richard.

At the start of 2020, Emma Charlesworth was a married, working Mum of one, whose life was suddenly turned upside down due to Covid 19. On Mothers Day of that year, they were passing the day as a family in lockdown, when her husband Stuart started running a temperature. He was taken to hospital later that week, and would never come home. On September 26th 2007, Bray Firefighter Brian Murray was killed tragically in the line of duty, alongside his colleague Mark O’Shaughnessy . Brian was 46, and Mark was 26. On what would have been his 65th birthday, Brian’s son, Brian, talks about the unspeakable tragedy that unfolded that day, the controversy that followed and why, in his role now as a firefighter he wants to ensure both his Dad, and Mark are never forgotten.

National Grief Awareness Week is now in its 6th year, it’s run by The Irish Hospice Foundation to help send the message that you are not alone in your grief. This year NGAW focuses on the many different ways we can be aware and support those going through a bereavement and especially those navigating grief in the workplace.
