They Buried the Abuse. She Buried the Shame. | Healing Unapologetically with Fierra Johnson
On this episode of The Heart Helper Podcast, host Jodie Shannon sits down with Fierra Johnson-Graham, co-author of Mirror Wounds: A Mother and Daughter's Journey to Healing — a raw and unflinching memoir told in the alternating voices of a mother and daughter bound by love, scarred by trauma, and determined to find freedom. Darlene and Fierra share parallel yet intertwined stories of childhood abuse, family secrets, and the generational silence that kept them bound. Through letters to their younger selves, they pull back the veil on shame and survival — showing that healing is possible even when the scars run deep. This is one of those conversations that will stay with you.In this episode we discuss:The story behind Mirror Wounds and what it meant for a mother and daughter to write their truth together in alternating voicesHow sexual abuse within a family creates wounds that are silently passed down — and how that silence secretly destroys families generation after generationWhat happens when the person who hurt you is a family member, and that same person has harmed others, yet no one has had the courage to speakHow shame thrives in silence — and how truth is the door to freedomThe mirror wounds Fierra discovered her mother was carrying — and how their healing became intertwined across generationsWhy Fierra made the conscious decision to get well not just for herself, but to properly steward the gift God placed inside her and to show up whole for her childrenThe truth that you cannot carry hurt and expect it not to bleed on the people you loveHow to heal unapologetically — giving yourself full permission to pursue wholeness without shrinking for the comfort of othersThe benefits of therapy and why getting professional support is not a sign of weakness but an act of courage and self-stewardshipHow Fierra stopped being a victim and became a victor — and how she did it with GodThis episode is for anyone who:Has been carrying a wound they were told to keep quietLoves someone who is still in their silenceNeeds permission to stop smiling while brokenHas been hesitant about therapy and needs to hear why it changed everythingNeeds to know that healing is not just possible — it is available to them right nowWhile wounds may mirror from mother to daughter — healing, too, can be mirrored and multiplied. Prepared, Surrendered, Filled and Overflowing | Going Deeper with God | ft. Bri Boyd
Prepared. Surrendered. Filled & Overflowing. | ft. Life Coach Bri BoydTwelve years of suffering. Lamps burning low. A river with no end. What do they all have in common? They all point to one truth — God is not withholding. He is flowing. But there is a move you have to make.If you have been running on empty, trying every solution, and still coming up short — this episode is for you. If you have been going through the motions but feel like something is missing in your relationship with God — this episode is for you. If you are ready to stop standing on the bank and actually step into what God has for you — this one is for you.In this conversation, Jodie sits down with life coach Bri Boyd to walk through three powerful scriptures that tell one story — what it looks like to be prepared, surrender everything, and come out filled and overflowing. The Woman with the Issue of Blood had been suffering for twelve years. She had spent everything she had on doctors, on treatments, on answers that never came. She was ceremonially unclean, isolated from her community, and had no business being in that crowd. But she had heard about Jesus — and faith without action is dead. So she moved. She pressed through the crowd, reached out, and touched the hem of His garment. The power that went out of Him met the faith that was moving in her. Jesus stopped, turned, and called her Daughter. She didn't just receive healing — she received her identity back. The Ten Virgins remind us that intimacy with God is not something you can borrow. Matthew 25:1-4 tells us five were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil. The wise ones took oil in jars along with their lamps. Preparation is not a one-time event — it is a daily, sustained posture of staying close to Him. You cannot pour from an empty lamp, and you cannot enter on someone else's relationship with God.Ezekiel 47 gives us a picture of what full surrender looks like. A river flows from the threshold of the temple — ankle-deep, then knee-deep, then waist-deep, then too deep to cross. This is the river of God. Living water. Where it flows, everything lives. The invitation is not to stand on the bank and admire it. Step in, go deeper, and let it carry you. We decrease. He increases. We empty ourselves and He fills us with living water that overflows into everything around us.In This Episode:Why preparation is a daily posture, not a one-time actHow the woman with the issue of blood models faith with actionWhat it means to decrease so God can increaseHow to stop standing on the bank and go deeper with God"Where the river flows, everything will live." — Ezekiel 47:9"Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, rivers of living water will flow from within them." — John 7:37-38If this episode blessed you, share it with someone who needs to hear it and leave a review — it helps more women find the show.Stay Connected Guest: Bri Boyd, Life Coach @BriBoydCoaching Host: Jodie Shannon @IamJodieShannon | Show: The Heart Helper Podcast @thehearthelperpodcastwww.thehearthelper.comThe Heart Helper Podcast is faith-rooted conversations for women ready to move from being to becoming.

Architect of Your Mind: Rewriting Your Story with Bri Boyd
What happens when the people who were supposed to pour into you — didn't? In this episode, Jodie sits down with executive function coach Bri Boyd for a raw, real, and deeply necessary conversation about what it takes to rewrite your story when the first chapters were written by people who weren't healed themselves. We're going there — toxic parental relationships, unsupportive family systems, mother wounds, and the silent ways enmeshment and parentification shape who we become. And yes, we're talking about something that doesn't get said enough: no one taught us how to date. As Black women, navigating love and relationships while carrying generational wounds is its own journey — and we don't shy away from it.But this episode isn't just about what happened to you. It's about who you decide to be because of it.Bri brings her coaching lens as they unpack attachment styles, self-betrayal, nervous system regulation, and what it truly means to become the architect of your own mind. Whether you're leaving a toxic environment, healing from a narcissistic family system, or simply ready to show up as the highest version of yourself — this one was made for you.Follow UsShow @TheHeartHelperPodcastHost @IamJodieShannonGuest @BriBoydCoachingResources for This Episode:Codependent No More — Melody Beattiehttps://www.amazon.com/Codependent-No-More-Controlling-Others/dp/0894864025The Body Keeps the Score — Bessel van der Kolkhttps://www.amazon.com/Body-Keeps-Score-Healing-Trauma/dp/0143127748Sacred Woman — Queen Afuahttps://www.amazon.com/Sacred-Woman-Guide-Healing-Feminine/dp/0345434080Dr. Ramani — Narcissist Recoveryhttps://www.youtube.com/@DoctorRamaniHeidi Priebe — Attachment Styleshttps://www.youtube.com/@heidipriebe1Tim Fletcher — Complex Trauma & Recoveryhttps://www.youtube.com/@TimFletcher

The God Who Raises Dead Things
We celebrate Easter remembering what God did on the third day. But what about the dreams that have been dead longer than three days? What about the marriage, the business, the calling, the version of yourself you quietly buried and stopped talking about? In this episode of The Heart Helper Podcast, we're sitting in Ezekiel 37 — the Valley of Dry Bones — and asking the same question God asked Ezekiel: Can these bones live? The answer is still yes. We'll walk through what resurrection power actually looks like beyond the empty tomb — in your finances, your faith, your relationships, and your purpose. Because Jesus didn't just say He conquered death. He said I am the resurrection and the life. Present tense. Active. And Romans 8:11 reminds us that same Spirit lives inside of you. This isn't a history lesson. This is a word for the woman who has been standing in her valley long enough to memorize every dry bone by name.God is still breathing. And He's not done with what you've given up on.Scriptures referenced: John 11:25 | Ezekiel 37:1-14 | Romans 8:11 | Joel 2:25 | Isaiah 43:19

Becoming the Man I Needed with Rico Flash
In this episode of The Heart Helper Podcast, artist Rico Flash opens his heart and shares a truth many men live with, but rarely name — having a father in the home, yet lacking emotional presence and guidance. What began as a vulnerable social media post about the absence of fatherly support unexpectedly went viral, as men across the world reached out to say, “I feel this too.” Through his honesty, Rico created space for others to acknowledge their own wounds, reminding us that healing often begins when one person is brave enough to tell the truth. This conversation is not about blame, but about becoming. Rico reflects on what it means to seek guidance from God when earthly guidance feels incomplete, how intimacy with God reshapes the heart of a man, and why starting each day at God’s feet allows us to walk more firmly in faith.Rico also shares the heart behind his latest EP, Polaroid, and how music has become a vessel for processing memory, emotion, and healing — capturing moments of love, growth, pain, and transformation through sound. At its core, this episode is a sacred reminder: men carry deep feelings too, and vulnerability is not weakness — it is the doorway to connection, brotherhood, and healing. Hearing God's Whisper
We often expect God to speak through the loud, dramatic moments—the earthquake, the fire, the storm. But what if the message you've been waiting for is in the whisper? In 1 Kings 19:11-13, when Elijah stood on the mountain, God wasn't in the powerful wind, the earthquake, or the fire. Instead, God came in a gentle whisper—a still, small voice that could only be heard in the quiet.Sometimes you have to be still to hear what The Spirit is saying. Maybe you've been missing the message while waiting for the bottle, and in doing so, you've been missing the blessing.Join me on The Heart Helper as we explore what it means to quiet our hearts, listen for God's whisper, and discover the blessings that come when we stop striving and start hearing.Follow Us On InstagramShow The Heart HelperHost Jodie Shannon

Strong Man, Wrong Woman: The Story of Samson and Delilah
What if the person you're holding onto is the very thing destroying your purpose? In this episode, I'm diving into the story of Samson and Delilah—a cautionary tale about what happens when we ignore the red flags and let our desires lead us into destruction. Here's what I'm unpacking:The danger of ignoring repeated warnings – Delilah asked Samson about the source of his strength THREE times before he finally gave in. Sometimes God allows people to show us their true colors over and over again, but we refuse to see it because we're blinded by what we want them to be."She pressed him daily with her words and urged him, so that his soul was vexed to death" (Judges 16:16) – Real talk: if someone is constantly pressuring you, draining your peace, and pulling you away from your purpose, that's not love. That's manipulation. Stop painting a different picture of them than what they're showing you.Your anointing wasn't meant to be shared with everyone – Samson's strength was tied to his consecration to God, but he gave his secret to someone who was literally being paid to betray him. Not everyone deserves access to what God has placed inside you."And she said, 'The Philistines are upon you, Samson!' So he awoke from his sleep, and said, 'I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!' But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him" (Judges 16:20) – This verse breaks my heart every time. Samson didn't even realize he'd lost his power. When we compromise our relationship with God for temporary pleasure, we can become numb to His absence. But here's the good news: God still hears your final prayer – Even after everything, when Samson cried out to God one last time, God restored his strength. "Then Samson called to the Lord, saying, 'O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God'" (Judges 16:28). Your past mistakes don't disqualify you from God's mercy.I know it's hard to walk away from someone you have feelings for, but if they keep showing you who they really are—believe them the first time. Don't let your desires become the altar where your destiny dies.Tune in now and let's have this honest conversation. Your deliverance might be on the other side of letting go.Follow Us On Instagram@thehearthelperpodcast@iamjodieshannon

Despite Saul's relentless pursuit and murderous intent, David chose mercy over revenge, demonstrating unwavering faith that God would handle the situation in His perfect timing. We'll discover how David's early relationship with Saul began with favor and mutual respect, examine the pivotal moment when jealousy transformed their friendship into deadly enmity, and learn practical applications for when we face our own "Sauls" – those who wrong us, persecute us, or stand against us.Key Lessons You'll Discover:Why David repeatedly called Saul "the Lord's anointed" even when Saul was clearly in the wrongHow trusting God's justice frees us from the burden of personal vengeanceThe difference between defending ourselves and seeking revengeWhy patience in persecution often leads to greater victories than retaliationHow David's mercy ultimately led to Saul's acknowledgment of David's righteousnessVerses to Study Before Listening:Primary Passages:1 Samuel 16:14-23 (David enters Saul's service)1 Samuel 18:6-16 (The turning point - jealousy begins)1 Samuel 24:1-22 (David spares Saul in the cave)1 Samuel 26:1-25 (David spares Saul while he sleeps)Supporting Scripture:Romans 12:19 (Leave room for God's wrath)Deuteronomy 32:35 (Vengeance belongs to God)Psalm 37:7-9 (Wait patiently for the Lord)Whether you're facing workplace conflict, family disputes, or feeling wronged by others, David's example will challenge and encourage you to trust God's perfect justice while walking in mercy and grace.Prepare your heart for this powerful study by reading through 1 Samuel chapters 16, 18, 24, and 26. Come ready to discover how God fights for those who trust in Him rather than taking vengeance into their own hands.Show The Heart Helper PodcastHost Jodie ShannonGet Jodie's latest book Out of Comfort, Into Calling

Bible Discovery: Understanding Matthew 13 – The Parable of the Sower
On episode 25 of The Heart Helper Podcast, host Jodie Smith presents her unique take on Bible study, which she calls Bible Discovery. In this episode, Smith delves into the profound meaning of The Parable of the Sower from Matthew chapter 13. As we journey in our faith, this episode serves as a guide to help us move from being lukewarm Christians to becoming fully obedient and devoted followers of Christ. God is continually planting seeds in our lives, but is your soil fertile enough for these seeds to grow? Smith simplifies the gospel message, making it accessible and relevant for everyday living. Join us as we explore the transformative power of the Word and reflect on the following verses from Matthew 13:18-23 (NLT):"Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!"Instagram Show @thehearthelperpodcastHost @bobbyjamesssSelf-Care Boxes @thehearthelperVisit https://www.thehearthelper.com to read our blogs and order your self-care boxes today!
