212: STOP TRYING. START DOING. | Intentional Habits That Build a Purposeful Life

What are you doing every single day that proves you're serious about becoming the man God is calling you to be? Motivation is emotional. Discipline is intentional. In this episode of The Purpose Effect, David talks about building intentional habits—the small, repeated decisions that eventually become the road we walk without even thinking about it. Daniel didn't develop discipline when the lions showed up. He brought discipline into the lions' den. That's the lesson. Whether we're building our faith, strengthening our bodies, controlling our emotions, improving our work, or becoming better husbands, fathers and leaders, we don't prepare for the difficult moment when it arrives. We prepare before it arrives. 📖 Scripture in this episode: Proverbs 4:25–27 Daniel 6 Luke 16:10 1 Corinthians 9:24–27 Habits create the road. Purpose determines the destination. Stop negotiating with yourself. Stop waiting until tomorrow. Stop trying. Start doing. The goal isn't being better than somebody else. The goal is becoming better than the man you were yesterday—and continuing to move toward the man God intended you to become. 210: Who wins when you lean into the hard

What happens when life stops being comfortable? In this episode of The Purpose Effect, David gets personal about walking through his own wilderness—anger, financial pressure, disappointment, uncertainty, and the temptation to ask God, “Why me?” But maybe that's the wrong question. Psalm 66 reminds us that silver is tried before it is refined. Fire and water come before being brought through to the other side. And sometimes the pressure isn't interrupting our growth—the pressure is where the growth is happening. David explores the relationship between identity, mindset, purpose, diligence, and integrity, and why difficult seasons can expose what we actually believe. When integrity is high, inspection isn't something to fear. When identity is rooted in Christ, scars become evidence of where we've been—not definitions of who we are. The challenge is simple: Don't waste the hard. If you're going through the fire, come out refined. If you're walking through the wilderness, learn something there. Find people who will sharpen you rather than simply polish you. Because iron sharpens iron—and comfortable steel doesn't get forged. YouTube Description What if the difficult season you're asking God to remove is the very place He's using to grow you? Episode 210 of The Purpose Effect is about leaning into the hard. David shares candidly about his own wilderness and what he's learning about faith, pressure, integrity, identity, purpose, and refusing to settle for “good enough.” 📖 Psalm 66:10–12 “For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried... we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.” The pressure may not be interrupting your growth. The pressure may be where the growth is. 🔥 Don't waste your wilderness. ⚒️ Welcome the inspection. 🗡️ Find your iron. 🙏 Ask God what He wants you to learn. The Purpose Effect. It is a lifestyle. 207: The Wilderness preparation not punishment

What if the wilderness isn’t where God sent you to punish you—but where He brought you to prepare you? This week on The Purpose Effect, we’re talking about the wilderness. And I’m not talking about trees, mountains, and being physically lost. I’m talking about those seasons when life gets wild, uncomfortable, uncertain, and difficult—the places where everything you thought you could depend on starts getting stripped away. I’m walking through one of those seasons right now. In this episode, I talk openly about business struggles, anger, fear, old patterns, identity, faith, and what I’m learning as I try to stop asking “Why me, God?” and start asking “What are You preparing me for?” As I’ve studied Scripture, I’ve found a pattern: CALLING → WILDERNESS → TESTING → STRENGTHENING → SENDING The wilderness reveals. The wilderness strips away dependence on comfort. The wilderness teaches trust. The wilderness strengthens faith. And the wilderness prepares us for what comes next. Deuteronomy 8 shows us Israel learning dependence upon God in the wilderness. Matthew 4 shows us Jesus being led by the Spirit into the wilderness before beginning His public ministry. Sometimes we’re so focused on getting OUT of the wilderness that we miss what God is trying to build IN us while we’re there. We also talk about identity. I’m a husband. I’m a father. I’m a mentor, leader, teacher, and businessman. Those things matter—but none of them are my foundation. My foundational identity is that I am a child of God and a disciple of Jesus Christ. Everything else gets built on top of that. If you’re walking through your own wilderness right now, I want to challenge you: Lean into the uncomfortable. Spend time in Scripture. Spend time in prayer. Ask God what needs to be revealed, removed, strengthened, or changed. Don’t allow today’s wilderness to define you. Let God use it to prepare you. 📖 Scripture discussed: Deuteronomy 8:2–3 Exodus 16 Matthew 4:1–11 Luke 4:1–14 Ephesians 6:10–18 If this episode speaks to you, subscribe to The Purpose Effect, share it with someone walking through their own wilderness, and join us as we learn to live with greater faith, intention, and purpose. 206: The Power of the Wilderness: Why God Leads You Through It, Not Around It

Are you feeling stuck, alone, or like life is one constant uphill battle? In this episode of The Purpose Effect, host Alesha dives deep into what it truly means to walk through the wilderness — and why God doesn't just permit those seasons, He leads you into them on purpose. You'll learn: Why the wilderness is not a punishment — it's a classroom How to shift your perspective from "Why, God?" to "What are you growing in me?" David joins from Nashville where he's attending a Christian men's symposium, and the conversation takes a powerful turn — covering what it means to live openly as a Christian without being overbearing, why authentic faith changes your life rather than just your Sunday routine, and how sharing your joy is far more compelling than checking boxes. 204: When Weakness Becomes God’s Strength | Finding Grace in the Hardest Moments

There are moments in life when we feel weak, overwhelmed, and completely unequipped for what stands before us. Those moments often feel like failure—but what if they’re actually invitations? In this episode of The Purpose Effect, I share a very personal journey through grief, vulnerability, and faith. Reflecting on Paul’s “thorn in the flesh,” David facing Goliath, and the incredible gift of God’s grace, I explore what happens when we stop relying on our own strength and begin trusting God’s. I also speak candidly about the recent loss of a friend to suicide and the difficult emotions that followed. If you’ve ever questioned your worth, carried guilt, or wondered whether God could still love someone like you, this conversation is for you. God doesn’t ask us to carry every burden. He asks us to bring them to Him. Our greatest strength isn’t found in our abilities. It’s found in surrender. 203: Stop Drifting, Start Living: How Awareness, Purpose & Dreaming Big Will Transform Your Life

Are you going through life on autopilot — reacting to circumstances instead of intentionally creating the life God designed for you? In this episode of The Purpose Effect, host Alesha dives deep into three powerful shifts that will help you break free from fear, self-doubt, and a victim mindset. Alesha opens up about her own struggle with fear of failure — how it silenced her ability to dream big and kept her stuck for years. She shares the exact mindset reframe that changed everything: choosing to see every situation, even the hardest ones, as an opportunity for growth rather than proof of failure. In this episode, you'll discover: Why self-awareness is the #1 key to personal growth and lasting change How fear of failure is secretly keeping you from your God-given purpose The powerful mindset shift that turns setbacks into stepping stones Why dreaming big is not just a nice idea — it's a biblical mandate How living with purpose and intention creates a ripple effect that impacts others Whether you're stuck in a cycle of negative thinking, afraid to pursue your goals, or simply feeling like life is passing you by, this episode will give you the clarity, motivation, and practical tools to start living with intention — starting today. 199: Growth, Grieving and Resilience

In episode 199 of The Purpose Effect, host David Rosenfeldt opens up about a bittersweet season of life where deep growth, grief, and resilience are all happening at once. Fresh off shoulder surgery and reflecting on more than a decade of personal transformation—weight loss, lifestyle change, and spiritual awakening—David shares how God has continually invited him to grow, not just physically and emotionally, but spiritually. He talks about: Being told he’s “a different person every decade” and why he now receives that as a compliment Discovering new tools in his faith journey: grace, joy, and a personal relationship with the Lord As his life and priorities shift, some of David’s long-standing relationships are changing or fading. He candidly processes the grief of realizing that old friendships built around past lifestyles don’t always fit a purpose-driven, Christ-centered life. Grounded in Scripture, he unpacks: Proverbs 13:20 – “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise…” 1 Corinthians 15:33 – “Bad company ruins good morals.” David is careful not to condemn or label old friends as “fools,” but he acknowledges he’s raised his standards and now needs to surround himself with people who nourish his spiritual growth and share a desire to seek the Lord and walk in the light. He names the tension of: Loving people deeply while choosing not to spend as much time in environments that don’t support his purpose Grieving the change in kinship without declaring those relationships dead Remembering that God often reconnects people in new seasons when there’s still a purpose in the relationship From his past experience with addiction and quitting drugs to today’s spiritual transformation, David explains why other people can feel judged or uncomfortable when you change and they don’t—even when you aren’t judging them. That discomfort can create distance, and it’s okay (and necessary) to grieve that. The final movement of the episode centers on resilience: Getting back up after hard days, physical pain, emotional setbacks, and disappointment Building a new daily routine of Scripture, prayer, and gratitude Choosing a perspective of accomplishment and thankfulness instead of defeat Seeing Bible study as a lifetime endeavor, where familiar passages take on new meaning as your perspective and maturity grow David describes the indescribable peace and joy he’s tasting in this season—“better than any drug or adrenaline rush”—and compares it to the moment a parent first meets their child: you don’t really understand it until you’ve experienced it. He encourages listeners to: Accept that growth is uncomfortable, non-linear, and sometimes isolating Allow themselves to grieve changing relationships without shame Lean into resilience by starting each day on the foundation of faith, joy, and gratitude Trust that God will bring the right people for the right season as you pursue your purpose As the podcast approaches its 100th episode, David reflects on the diligence and resilience it’s taken to stay faithful to this calling and expresses deep gratitude to listeners and the team behind the scenes. He closes with an invitation: if this conversation about growth, grieving, and resilience speaks to you, connect with The Purpose Effect—like, subscribe, share—and, above all, seek your own relationship with God. 198: How to Trust God With Your Purpose | Lessons from Hannah's Prayer (1 Samuel 1)

Are you struggling to find your purpose — or afraid to surrender it once God gives it to you? 192: Health, Wealth and Healing

In this episode of The Purpose Effect Podcast, host David Rosenfeldt shares a powerful, faith‑based reflection on health, wealth, and healing from a Christian perspective. Speaking candidly about his recent shoulder surgery, rheumatoid arthritis, and his journey with type 2 diabetes, keto, and the carnivore diet, David reframes what it really means to be “wealthy.” Instead of chasing money, status, and possessions, he challenges listeners to pursue true wealth in three core areas: spiritual health, emotional health, and physical health. David explains how a daily attitude of gratitude, biblical study, scripture reading, and prayer form the spiritual foundation for a life of purpose. He contrasts the Kingdom of God with the cultural idol of money, reminding listeners that a strong relationship with God is worth more than any paycheck, dollar bill, or gold. He emphasizes that your health is your greatest wealth, and that healing is a process, not a one‑time event—whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing chronic illness, or working through emotional wounds. Drawing on his experience as a Christian, business owner, husband, father, and mentor, David shares how perspective shapes everything: starting the day in gratitude vs. lack, seeing your job as wealth instead of just the money it brings, and choosing to focus on what you can do rather than what you’ve lost. He offers simple, practical habits such as getting into the Bible app each morning, praying with thanksgiving, moving your body every hour, and consciously choosing to participate in your own healing—spiritually, emotionally, and physically. The episode also explores the importance of service, generosity, and community, including how David’s involvement in Christian community and Freemasonry has deepened his understanding that giving is a greater gift than receiving. Throughout, he returns to the central theme of living with purpose, clarity, and action, encouraging listeners not to “float” through life but to intentionally build a life aligned with God’s design. If you’re a Christian listener (or spiritually curious) seeking faith‑based motivation, mindset shifts, and practical steps toward a more purposeful, healthy, and healed life, this episode will encourage you to: Redefine wealth as spiritual richness, emotional resilience, and physical vitality. Start your day from a spiritual surplus instead of an emotional deficit. Embrace the work of healing through consistent effort, prayer, and wise choices. See your body as a gift from God to be stewarded, not neglected. Live a life of service, gratitude, and intentional action that positively impacts others. David closes by inviting you to choose health, build real wealth, and continue healing, one intentional day at a time—and to share the journey by liking, subscribing, and sending feedback so the show can continue to serve and encourage more people Learn more about your ad choices. 185: Perseverance, Perspective and Purpose June 19, 2026

David explores how perseverance, godly perspective, and living on purpose transform suffering into hope, healing, and daily faith-filled action. Episode Summary (Show Notes) In episode 185 of The Purpose Effect, host David Rosenfeldt gets real about walking through a hard season and what it actually looks like to persevere with a godly perspective. Drawing from Proverbs, Isaiah, Romans 5:3–4, and Corinthians, David unpacks how suffering can produce character and hope when we stay faithful, keep moving, and actively participate in the life God designed for us—rather than praying and passively waiting. He contrasts spiraling in overwhelm with stepping back, breathing, and remembering that God’s plan is greater than our plan, even when we don’t understand it. David talks about: Choosing to see trials as temporary Trusting God’s faithfulness while still “walking the walk” Forgiving repeatedly (and honestly, imperfectly) Letting go of “carrying someone else’s mud” (resentment, offense, and anger) Nourishing your spirit daily with Scripture, prayer, and healthy inputs instead of constant negativity, news, or empty noise Using quotes from Benjamin Franklin, Tony Robbins, George Patton, and William James, David connects practical perseverance (“be the best French fry cook in the place”) with spiritual identity: you are God’s intentional creation, not a mistake. He shares candidly about: Learning to forgive again and again when old hurts resurface Practicing faith like an athlete practices their sport Moving from loneliness (even in crowds) to deep peace, even when physically alone Embracing identity as God’s child and receiving grace, joy, and peace as promised in Scripture David closes by encouraging listeners to carefully nourish their minds and spirits, keep their perspective anchored in God’s truth, and persevere through hard seasons without picking up burdens that aren’t theirs. He invites you to walk your own walk, borrow any tools that help, and join the Purpose Effect community as they “change the world by changing themselves.” He also teases exciting updates: Alesha’s new book launches June 26, 2026 A new Purpose Effect website is on the way, with more resources for the community Learn more about your ad choices. 182 Time perspective and perception, June 10, 2026

Purpose Effect podcast – “Time, Perspective, and Perception” Host: David | Theme: Christian personal growth, time stewardship, intentional living In this Purpose Effect episode, David explores time, perspective, and perception through a biblical Christian lens and practical personal development. He contrasts scriptural views of time (Proverbs 27:1, Ecclesiastes 3) with secular wisdom (Benjamin Franklin, Leo Tolstoy, Chinese proverb, Gandhi) to show that time is a non‑renewable resource, a commodity more valuable than money, and a key ingredient in living a purpose‑driven life. David explains how our relationship with time shifts with age, repetition, anticipation, busyness, and rest, highlighting how perspective changes our experience of time even though the “tick of a second” never changes. He emphasizes time stewardship, intentional living, and using time for growth—spiritually (prayer, Scripture, fellowship), physically (exercise, breaks, nutrition), mentally (reflection, boundaries, rest), and relationally (presence with family instead of screens). Drawing from Ecclesiastes 3 (“a time for everything”), he stresses balance: a time to work and a time to rest, a time to speak and a time to listen, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to build and a time to tear down. He connects this to the Purpose Effect lifestyle: stop floating through life, start living with purpose, clarity, intentional action, and organized time management (calendars, scheduling, breaks, planned routines). Using examples like hourly movement breaks, baking bread as a grounding practice, Olympic‑level practice and preparation, and the Chinese proverb “The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago, the second best is now”, he encourages listeners to: Plan and organize their time Set healthy boundaries around time, work, and expectations Replace worry and anxiety with constructive action Be fully present with family and loved ones (put down the phone, engage, ask questions) Accept that real growth is often uncomfortable and born out of difficulty and conflict Align daily choices of how they spend their time with God’s purpose and long‑term calling He closes by asking listeners reflective questions about whether they are using time wisely and valuing it properly, and by reminding the community that “together we are changing the world”—each in our own world, and all of us collectively—inviting them to subscribe, like, share, and watch for the upcoming website and future resources. 179: Salt: historical, cultural, biblical

In this episode of The Purpose Effect, host David Rosenfeldt delivers a mid-week reflection centered on the multifaceted metaphor of salt. Moving away from physical health, David explores salt's historical, cultural, biblical, and culinary significance to challenge listeners to live an intentional, purpose-driven life rather than simply "floating" through daily routines.David breaks down the various historical dimensions of salt—noting its use as ancient currency ("worth your salt"), a flavor enhancer, a natural preservative, a chemical disinfectant for newborns in Ezekiel, and a symbol of God's eternal covenant with King David. He highlights the dual nature of salt: it represents purity and eternity, yet in excess (like the Salt Flats or the Salton Sea), it embodies desolation, dehydration, and judgment.Using a cooking analogy, David compares the density and texture of three kitchen salts (flaky, kosher ground, and heavy rock salt) to different spiritual and emotional needs. Flaky salt represents gentle, uplifting conversation; kosher salt matches standard daily tasks; and heavy rock salt (or a livestock salt lick) represents the deep grit and tenacity needed to endure hardships. He warns against "over-salting" life with superficial busyness (like over-committing to boards and committees) to mask a lack of purpose.Ultimately, David references Luke 14 to warn against losing one's "saltiness" through impure or secondary sources. He concludes that true resilience, integrity, and purpose can only be consistently replenished by drawing from God's supply, urging listeners to do the hard spiritual work required to truly earn their salt. 174: When Success is Simple

In this episode of The Purpose Effect, David unpacks the simple but powerful truth that success is built on consistency, not perfection. Drawing from research, real-life experience, and his walk with God, he explains why talent is secondary to daily discipline and how small, steady habits can radically transform your spiritual, emotional, and physical life. You’ll hear how practices like making your bed, walking daily, and committing to prayer and Bible study create momentum and identity. David reframes success as “showing up” and doing your best—especially on hard days—rather than only counting big wins like closing the deal or hitting a dramatic goal. He shares how to: Redefine success as consistency, effort, and obedience Use small improvements (0.5% better) to create long-term change Build spiritual health through prayer, scripture, and intentional focus Strengthen emotional health by recognizing triggers and choosing better responses Improve physical health with simple, sustainable choices (like walking and mindful eating) Shift from a failure-focused mindset to a “successes and lessons” mindset Celebrate small victories (one donut instead of three, a short walk instead of none) as real progress At the core, this episode is about identity and perspective: seeing yourself as God’s creation, recognizing the progress you’re already making, and choosing to grow one intentional step at a time. David encourages listeners to stop floating through life and start living with purpose, clarity, and action—anchored in faith and consistency. 173: I Can Do All Things — But Not the Way You Think | The Real Power Behind Philippians 4:13

You've seen it on coffee mugs. You've quoted it at the gym. But what if Philippians 4:13 — "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" — means something far deeper than you've ever realized? In this episode of The Purpose Effect, host Alesha takes a raw, honest look at one of the most quoted verses in the Bible and unpacks why it hits different when you understand the context Paul wrote it in — from chains, in a Roman prison, not from a place of victory. What you'll discover: Why contentment is not the same as complacency (and how confusing the two keeps you stuck) The Greek word emathon and what it reveals about learning strength through suffering How the hedonic treadmill (backed by psychology research) explains why more money, more success, and better circumstances won't fix your peace Why your identity and your contentment must be rooted in God — not your emotions, not your circumstances, not what others say How to stop living in "if only" and start choosing peace with purpose Whether you're an overachiever, a dreamer, or someone in the middle of a hard season — this episode will reframe how you read that verse forever. 🙏 This episode also includes a heartfelt word on Mental Health Awareness Month and a reminder that you are not alone. 169: Using Your God-Given Gifts: The Parable of the Talents, Purpose, and Being God’s Hands and Feet

In this powerful episode of The Purpose Effect, Alesha joins David from a writing retreat in the mountains of Montana, where she has been working on a God-inspired book about awareness, identity, healing, and purpose. Together, they dive into the Parable of the Talents and what it really means to use the gifts, calling, and opportunities God has placed in your hands. They unpack why burying your talents is not humility — it is often fear, avoidance, or disobedience disguised as comfort. Alesha shares moving stories from her time in Red Lodge, Montana — from meaningful conversations with strangers, to praying on a sidewalk, to following God’s prompting to give a $100 bill to a waitress. These moments open up a deeper conversation about what it looks like to be God’s hands and feet in everyday life. Alesha and David also talk about the difference between accountability and judgment, why we need people who sharpen us like iron, and how living with purpose is not about doing more — it is about gathering your energy, listening to God, and doing something meaningful with what He has already placed inside of you. This episode is for anyone who feels called to more, senses God nudging them forward, or knows they have been sitting on gifts they were created to use. Key topics covered: Using your God-given gifts and talents The Parable of the Talents explained for everyday life Living with Christian purpose and obedience Being God’s hands and feet in daily moments Following God’s prompting and spiritual nudges Accountability vs. judgment in faith and leadership Why purpose is not about busyness How to stop burying your calling out of fear Faith, obedience, identity, and meaningful action Learn more about your ad choices. 168 My Retreat Journey 2.0 Saturday

David shares a powerful, personal story from an emotional healing retreat led by Autumn, where he literally carries “rocks” that represent his emotional baggage—then chooses to finally let them go. At this retreat, David learns how to: Identify emotional triggers through body awareness Recognize how past trauma, family dynamics, and childhood experiences show up in his life today Process guilt, shame, and feelings of failure through guided group exercises When his wife Amanda is injured during a rope activity, David is hit with intense emotions: helplessness, guilt, and the feeling that he has failed as a husband and protector. This moment becomes a major trigger that opens the door to deeper work. Over the next two days, with the support of facilitators Autumn, Michelle, and Alicia, David begins to uncover: Old wounds and unresolved issues with his parents and siblings Emotional “scar tissue” he thought was healed, but was really just buried The difference between truly healing versus just “faking progress” The retreat uses a powerful symbolism: collecting and carrying physical rocks to represent negative experiences, emotional pain, and limiting beliefs. In the culminating exercise, David carries a heavy bag of rocks up a hill—each rock symbolizing a burden he’s been holding onto for years. At the top, he makes a conscious choice to put them down and walk away. He describes this moment of releasing his emotional baggage as one of the most freeing experiences of his life. In this video, you’ll hear David talk about: Emotional triggers and how they show up in the body How to work with emotional baggage instead of ignoring it The role of safe community and skilled facilitators in deep healing Learning to keep the lessons from painful experiences without carrying the pain itself Trusting a higher plan and surrendering control during the healing journey If you’ve ever felt weighed down by your past, family wounds, or unprocessed emotions, David’s story offers hope, inspiration, and a real‑life example of what’s possible through intentional emotional healing work.
