S02E14- People of Earth 1X5 "Unexplained"
Amanda finally remembered a short-form comedy she loves, and now Kampy loves it too! It’s People of Earth, a 2016 TBS comedy of all things, but we promise, this is a great one. Sit down in a circle with our alien abduction support group as we chat about this kooky group of humans and their equally kooky alien counterparts, including off-brand cable TV Legolas and Ballsac (not their real names), at least a couple talking deer hallucinations, the lowest budget spaceship you’ve ever seen on screen, relating alien abduction to immaculate conception, a few surprisingly poignant lines, and honestly a lot of fun wacky comedy tropes (seeing visions, being high on anesthesia, alien workplace drama) done right. We had an absolute blast with this one, so we hope you enjoy! Leave us a comment/review, and make sure to subscribe for many more Show Offs to come. :) You can also follow us on Tumblr (yes, really, we needed somewhere to post gifs, cmon): @theshowoffpod And finally, join the conversation and email us at [email protected]. S02E15 - Agatha All Along Episode 5 Reaction/Review
Wake up witches, we’re back with Agatha and the coven in episode 5 of Agatha All Along, “Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power.” This episode is as short as it is devastating and naturally we’re digging all the way into it (and Agatha’s trauma). We get into Rio’s intriguing justification of Agatha’s choices and even defending her against her ghost mom, the best 80’s sleepover horror aesthetic, one excellent blue Poltergeist TV, laughing in the face of Death ;), one mid-to-good Mrs. Hart impression, Jen being possessed for this episode not just Agatha, and the biggest magical temper tantrum we’ve seen so far. Where could we possibly go from here? Subscribe and join us on this deep dive — we got all the character analysis, film breakdown, and dialogue dissection your little witch heart could ask for. 💜🖤💛❤️💙🩷💚 Leave us a comment/review, and make sure to subscribe for many more Show Offs to come. :) You can also follow us on Tumblr (yes, really, we needed somewhere to post gifs, cmon): @theshowoffpod And finally, join the conversation and email us at [email protected]. S02E17 - Agatha All Along Episode 7 Reaction/Review
We’ve come to one of the best episodes of the show in episode 7 of Agatha All Along “Death’s Hand in Mine.” Join us for this timey wimey masterpiece of an episode where we finally find out where Rio went (!!), a Disney witch costume competition for the ages, the tarot trial we’ve been waiting for, some of the best editing, writing, and plot weaving we’ve seen in a while, Lilia’s bops finally coming together, a healthy dose of old world witch wisdom, Agatha condemning witches even when she’s trying to save witches, and all of the pieces coming together for the big reveal — of Lady Death herself. 💀 We LOVED dissecting this episode and all of its character pieces and themes, and we hope you enjoy too! S02E16 - Agatha All Along Episode 6 Reaction/Review
We’re over halfway through the show just in time for some flashbacks and some cameos with episode 6 of Agatha All Along, “Familiar By Thy Side.” Come along as we dive back into Teen/William/Billy’s past, meet his Boyf and Evan Peters’ Ralph—I mean, Randall—learn about near-death experiences, finally find out about that car crash in Eastview, both cast and break the sigil, break into Agatha’s house (badly), drag Agatha out of the mud (RIP the Coat), dissect the monologue Agatha wishes someone had given her, find Teen’s true motive (it’s not find mommy), and always, always keep asking the most important question — Where. Is. Rio?? Oh, and Agatha = Jack Sparrow. No seriously, hear us out on this one. It’s surprisingly accurate. S02E13 - Agatha All Along Episode 4 Reaction/Review
PART 2 -- We’re back witches with Agatha All Along episodes 3 and 4 “Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials” and “If I Can’t Reach You, Let My Song Teach You.” This proved to be quite the lift because we have a lot to say about these two episodes. Including but not limited to, the creepiness of a house that is too clean, speed running everyone’s trauma, power v. knowledge, a LOT of gorgeous practical effects, it’s not easy being green, one scary bitch coming right up (literally), 70s music v. 70s style, Agatha the powerful witch and Agatha the person, a full unhinged deep dive into every line of the end of episode 4, and some shockingly correct predictions from Kampy for episode 5. Honestly y’all, we cooked with this discussion especially for episode 4, so we hope you enjoy! S02E11 - Agatha All Along Episode 1 + 2 Reaction/Review
We’re finally going down, down, down the road, witches!!!! Marvel fan Amanda and non-fan Kampy have made it through WandaVision just to get to this moment, the start of Amanda’s favorite show of 2024, Agatha All Along. Nevermind that it took us all of 2025 to record our reactions to it shhhhhhh. We chat about the unexpected start of this series, being a TV detective, supposed New Jersey accents that sound a little too Midwest to us, Aubrey Plaza’s unmatched dark weird energy, getting the band together, wait what if this was a heist crew, the rules of the Road, sowing seeds of all the little mysteries, and Kampy thinking Agatha’s full of shit. And honestly, who can blame her? Subscribe and join us on this deep dive — we got all the character analysis, film breakdown, and dialogue dissection your little witch heart could ask for. 💜🖤💛❤️💙🩷💚 Leave us a comment/review, and make sure to subscribe for many more Show Offs to come. :) You can also follow us on Tumblr (yes, really, we needed somewhere to post gifs, cmon): @theshowoffpod And finally, join the conversation and email us at [email protected]. S02E010 - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia 13X7 "The Gang Does a Clip Show"
We’re back with the first round of short-form comedy Show Offs and it’s Kampy’s pick first — It’s Always Sunny. This episode (much like the show itself) subverts the sitcom genre with a “clip show” that goes off the rails into multiple false realities, Inception style. We chat about subverting sitcom tropes, WandaVision continuing to haunt the narrative, Jackass-style humor, no character development except queer acceptance, How It’s Made (cheap!), multiple real-life cast romances, and how this show has managed to stay on the air for 17 (!!!) seasons. S02E09: WandaVision Episodes 9 Reaction/Review
Hoo boy have we got a doozy of an episode for you guys today — it’s the WandaVision finale and spoilers, we struggled a bit with this one. Kampy runs once again straight into the wall of her distaste for Marvel and superhero spectacle, but don’t worry we find many things to like about this episode too. Including but not limited to, a battle of philosophy in the middle of a library no less, Wanda’s journey from grief to acceptance, Wanda’s even-better-than-superpowers ability to learn real quickly, lots of identity themes, the answer FINALLY to who is Ralph, Agatha being the most dramatic bitch possible, a little bit of old Hollywood romance, and some ghost kids to round everything out. We sure appreciate you going on this WandaVision journey with us, and stay tuned because we start Agatha All Along next. It’s only taken us a full year. S02E08 - Over The Garden Wall Episodes 2 "Hard Times at the Huskin' Bee" and 4 "Songs of the Dark Lantern"
It's Kampy's turn for the animation Show Off with Over the Garden Wall. And she’s got a lot of splainin’ to do… about the history of animation! And how it all inspired this little miniseries that's unlike just about any other animated series out there. But does Amanda go for it? You’ll have to listen to find out. ;) We’re chatting Disney v Fleischer studios, spooky scary skeletons, animation as the wild west of the entertainment industry, Elijah Wood literally being in everything this season, beautiful background scenery but truly unsettling people, a pretty big gamble from Cartoon Network on this series, and some very very happy animators getting to do what they do best. Thanks for tuning in! S02E07 - WandaVision Episode 7 + 8 Reaction/Review
We’re in the final stretch of WandaVision with episode 7 “Breaking the Fourth Wall” and episode 8 “Previously On.” After our last discussion of episodes 5 and 6, Kampy’s got her theories dialled in and now, we find out if they’re right. 👀 Discussion of these two episodes includes but is not limited to: Agnes as the devil and Vision as the angel on Wanda’s shoulders, our one and only mockumentary aughts sitcom style episode, breaking the fourth wall in at least four different ways, the intrigue of Agnes’ quiet mind, WHO is RALPH??, Agatha’s short traumatic backstory, Wanda’s much longer traumatic backstory, possibly the best line in the entire MCU, and the official introduction of THE Scarlet Witch. We hope you enjoy this episode and stay tuned for the finale next time! S02E06 - The Legend of Korra 1X10 "Turning the Tides"
It’s Amanda’s pick for the animation round of The Show Off and we’re kicking things off right with The Legend of Korra! Amanda’s hottest take in the history of the pod might be this: she likes Legend of Korra more than OG Avatar: The Last Airbender. BUT WAIT LET HER COOK— because the subtext tea in LoK is piping hot— and we’re getting into it in this episode. We’re talking animation style, incredible fight choreography, expanding the Avatar universe, Korra vs. Aang as the Avatar and their contrasting personalities, bigger swings in the themes of LoK, "my cabbages" energy, truly one of the greatest sacrifices in television history, and the incredible subtext that makes that sacrifice all the more powerful. On a kids' show!! (We stan Lin Beifong on this pod!!!) S02E05 - WandaVision Episode 5 + 6 Reaction/Review
Holy crap we’re back FINALLY with WandaVision episode 5 “On a Very Special Episode” and “All-New Halloween Spooktacular.” After a quick opening debate on episodic vs bingeable TV, we settle into these two mid-season episodes. We’re still progressing our way through the TV eras, but things are starting to get a little hinky. We got Agnes in full jazzercise gear, retelling a bit of Wanda’s trauma part 1, is Vision a dead body puppet, Wanda’s control issues, just a little bit of Monica’s trauma, Agnes’ sharp interest in Wanda bringing back the dead, surprise attack Pietro (Fox ver.), basically a Trix yogurt commercial, lots of Halloween shenanigans, and the most important question of the whole show: how committed is Agnes to the bit? (Answer: Fully committed. Too committed even.) S02E04 - Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency 2X1 "Space Rabbit"
We’re back with Kampy’s pick for our fantasy themed Show Off with as usual, a bit of an out of the box pick – Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Join us for our discussion of the premiere episode of season 2, where things get more than a little weird. We start off with a giant scissors sword fight, then some dubious and unfortunately gooey torture methods, exactly the kind of asshole dudebro we hate, a Midwestern sheriff named Sherlock in Montana, an assassin in a pink tutu, Chekhov’s sweatshirt, a Lady Macbeth reference, the beautiful power of friendship, and more than a few capital C characters. This was a really fun episode for both of us, we hope you enjoy! And what do you think, does this show count as “fantasy?” Leave us a comment/review, and make sure to subscribe for many more Show Offs to come. :) You can also follow us on Tumblr (yes, really, we needed somewhere to post gifs, cmon): @theshowoffpod And finally, join the conversation and email us at [email protected]. S02E03 - WandaVision Episode 3 + 4 Reaction/Review
We’re back babyyyy with WandaVision episode 3 “Now in Color,” and episode 4 “We Interrupt this Program.” It’s the 70s and 80s with all the wild fashion and hairstyles that entails. Things are starting to look even more suspicious and unsettling in Westview, we got a magical pregnancy, a stork that just will not disappear, a big cheesy wink, TWINS! we got TWINS!, one grounded astronaut, a few familiar faces from the MCU, and putting some pieces together that… we maybe didn’t want put together? Join us on this journey through TV sitcom history, MCU-style. We hope you enjoy the episode! S02E02 - The Wheel of Time 1x05 "Blood Calls Blood"
For our first Show Off of season 2 we’re talking fantasy series, and Amanda couldn’t be more excited to bring The Wheel of Time to the pod. We’re talking about what makes this the Best Fantasy Series on TV Right Now (in Amanda’s not-so-humble opinion) and what sets it apart from the rest (you know the usual suspects). In this episode, that includes bookended funerals, a lot of eye contact only conversation, the most cursed looking man you’ve ever seen, at least four “the wheel” shots, the saddest looking man you’ve ever seen, Women and Power: an Overarching Theme, Rosamund Pike giving a masterclass on microexpressions, differentiating the non-sexual/sexual scale and the platonic/romantic scale, a thesis statement on adaptations, and a whole essay on costume and color we don’t have time for. Plus, who are Dark Kili, Target Legolas, Dollar Store Jeff Goldblum, and BiTcH? You’ll have to listen to find out. :) Note: This episode was recorded just before The Wheel of Time season 3 finale, after which Prime Video unjustly cancelled the show. (Even with a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes!!) If you want to support the fan-led efforts to revive the show and finish the story, check out https://savewot.com! S02E01 - WandaVision Episodes 1 + 2 Reaction/Review
Welcome back for Season 2 of The Show Off!!! We’re so excited to be back, with something a little different from your regularly scheduled programming. We’re going to be making our way through the MCU miniseries WandaVision, episode by episode, reacting and reviewing from an MCU fan (Amanda) and a non-fan (Kampy). Honestly, we’re doing this full series reaction just to get us to the main event, Agatha All Along, which Amanda hyped up so much to Kampy last year that she said, to hell with it, let’s watch it and pod it together. ✌️ So we hope you enjoy the beginning of this wild ride through the TV sitcom eras of WandaVision, and yes we’ll have plenty to say about all of that from camera techniques to cinematography to writing and acting. In fact, we’d love if you watched along with us and let us know your thoughts on the show! S01E15 - Ocean's 8
It’s Amanda’s turn to pick a movie, and this is one for the ages. We’re geeking out and breaking down the iconic, legendary, absolutely STACKED Ocean’s 8 (2018). Amanda makes the case for why this movie stands toe to toe with the original Ocean’s trilogy, and honestly, it’s just a freaking good time. Um and have we mentioned the stacked cast?? Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter, and just to push it over the top in the best way, Rihanna. Playing the team’s hacker. Yeah, uh huh. *nods slowly* No big deal. Plus we’ve got some of the best fashion choices to ever hit the silver screen, big blingy Liz Taylor diamonds, actual Cartier, the Met Gala, celebrity cameos everywhere you look, a heist in a heist, dynamite chemistry between our leading ladies, and all of the Ocean’s-style effortless cool you can handle. Oh, and we figured out how to make this a trilogy with a future Ocean’s 9 and 10. You’re welcome. ;) We hope you enjoy and leave us your take in the comments! S01E14 - Twisters
We’re back with quite the episode for you today — to round out season 1 of The Show Off, Kampy and Amanda are each choosing a full movie to geek out about and break down for your listening enjoyment. We’re starting with Kampy’s pick — Twisters (2024). Which, for the record, is a pretty good sequel to an excellent 90s cult classic disaster film. But neither you, dear listener, nor Amanda are getting away that easily because Kampy’s also giving us all an education on tornadoes and the history of storm chasing in America. Which actually, is pretty wild and fascinating. Buckle up folks, and whatever you do, do not try to hide from a tornado under an overpass. We hope you enjoy and leave us your take in the comments! S01E12 - Imposters 1x02 "My Balls, Dickhead"
We’re back with part 2 of the “brilliant but cancelled” round of The Show Off with Kampy’s pick — a little show called Imposters. This Bravo network dramedy was unjustly cancelled after just two short seasons, but we’re here today to resurrect it and give it the spotlight it deserves. (How about that 93% on Rotten Tomatoes??) We’re chatting about two clueless idiots, one dynamite conwoman and her dubious team, a guy with anger issues, the twists and turns you don’t see coming, a subpar yard sale, learning to con on the road, a truly tragic missed opportunity for a running gag, the tech bros definitely not knowing where the bodies are buried, and the wild line that is “do you see my titties?? That’s right bitches cuz I ain’t your momma.” Like, what?? We hope you enjoy and leave us your take in the comments! S01E11 - Lie To Me 2x04 "Honey"
Ever wonder what it would be like if you could read people’s minds by reading their faces, speech patterns, and body language? That’s basically what Lie to Me is about. We start a new round of The Show Off this week called “brilliant but cancelled,” aka “only the good die young.” Amanda’s pick is Lie to Me, a psychological procedural that made it about 2.5 seasons on Fox, starting in 2009 and ending in 2011. We’re learning about microexpressions, language tells, how to incorrectly handle a hostage situation, how to correctly (if briefly) impersonate an FBI agent, a very codependent business partnership/friendship/situationship, the world’s stupidest rescue plan, and Chekhov’s literal gun. S01E10 - The Trial of Moffat Era Doctor Who
We’re sticking with the Doctor Who theme for just one more week, but this is a bit of a different episode. We’re expanding a long-standing debate between the two of us on Moffat era Who — Kampy stands for the prosecution, Amanda for the defense. We’re talking about all the positives and negatives of this era of Doctor Who, including characterization of the Doctor and his companions, the fairytale of it all, the difference between a guy and his friends stumbling his way into adventures and a grand plan unfolding across the universe, a lot of themes and motifs, off the charts timey wimey-ness, and just a smidge of the unhinged. Just a smidge. What do we both agree you can’t debate? The man writes banger dialogue. And isn’t that what we all really want? We hope you enjoy and leave us your take in the comments! S01E09 - Doctor Who 2x04 "The Girl in the Fireplace"
This week is Kampy’s pick for our double feature Doctor Who Show Off, and of course, it could only be a Ten episode: “The Girl in the Fireplace.” It’s another Moffat one-off, and we chat all about this timey wimey adventure with Ten, Rose, Mickey, and Madame du Pompadour herself, Renette. We dig into some frankly wild similarities between this episode and Amanda’s pick from last week, lots of Ten-isms including “wellllll” and spouting space jargon at hyperspeed, Scooby Dooing around a revolving fireplace, subtle character development for Ten, Chekhov’s horse (who’s name is Arthur), super fun practical sets, ridiculously large space guns, of course a few great dialogue drops, the satisfaction of not knowing the answer, and what’s Jack Sparrow got to do with anything. We hope you enjoy and leave us your take in the comments! S01E08 - Doctor Who 8x04 "Listen"
Grab your companions and sonic screwdrivers listeners, because we’re talking Doctor Who today on The Show Off podcast. This is the first time we’ll each be pulling an episode from the same show to talk about, starting with Amanda’s pick: Doctor Who series 8 episode 4, “Listen.” It’s a Twelve and Clara episode, and you bet we’re gonna talk about all of the insanity that comes with these two together, for better or worse. We chat about creating atmosphere with your lighting and cinematography, a fun creepy cold open, the quintessential Moffat monster, always thinking about how you can terrify children, timey wimey shenanigans, the most committed headdesk on TV, the rarity of an episode with great speeches from both the Doctor AND companion, the wiLDesT suggestive line of dialogue that goes nowhere, a tasteful sprinkle of comedy throughout, and the most insane subtext romance you ever did see on your television screen. We hope you enjoy and leave us your take in the comments! S01E07 - Bob's Burgers 10x20 "Poops!... I Didn't Do It Again"
Oh shit, listeners, we’re back to talk about Kampy’s favorite show this week: Bob’s Burgers. The episode is “Poops, I Didn’t Do It Again,” and we’re getting real in this one. Buckle up for a lot of puns, toilet humor, purple pickles, shark obsessions, heartwarming family moments, an upsetting amount of laxatives, weirdos at the pharmacy, and a cast of off-the-wall side characters. Plus, we discuss process, writing humor, voice acting, animation, and a whole lot more in our usual deep dive dissection of show mechanics. We hope you enjoy this one! Let’s go steal a podcast, thieves and grifters! Welcome back to a new round of The Show Off, where we’re talking about episodes of our all-time favorite shows, starting with Amanda’s pick — Leverage, created by John Rogers and Dean Devlin for TNT in 2008. We chat all about this excellent heist and con procedural and break down a fan favorite episode: The Bank Shot job. We’re talking about some great (and very hot) set design, the unmatched found family dynamic with our Leverage crew, Technical Jargon: Competence Porn and Other Writer’s Room Terms, relationship and character dynamics, interesting costume design on a budget, a whole lotta show don’t tell moments, defeating the villain with their own hubris, a show tagline worth remembering, just a few ridiculous ransom demands, and everyone’s favorite Cowboy Batman. Today we’re switching it up and chatting a bit about one of our favorite TV genres: blue skies TV. S01E04 - Barry 4x08 "wow"
We're back for part 2 on HBO's Barry, discussing the series finale, "wow." This was a super fun discussion where we talk about character development from the pilot to now, who's fighting who, a serious tone shift, why does everybody hate Sally, religious delusion, the American treatment of on-screen violence, lots of guns, a top ten comedy moment, the bronze Fonz, long stationary shots for the drama, communicating in microexpressions, and an absolutely wild theatrical ending to this show. And more! We hope you enjoy this one as much as we did. Are you a Barry fan? Leave us a comment below of your take on this pilot! And subscribe for many more Show Offs to come. :) Join the conversation and email us at [email protected]. With your permission, we just might read your email on a future episode of the pod.

Amanda and Kampy jump into Kampy’s first pick for the Show Off pod – HBO’s Barry. We dissect the pilot, “Make Your Mark,” diving into camera movement (or lack thereof), the art and science of comedy, contrasting stakes, lighting and cinematography, depictions of violence, setting up character arcs, some good monologues, and the simultaneous love letter to and mockery of acting in this show. And much more! We hope you enjoy this one. Are you a Barry fan? Leave us a comment below of your take on this pilot! And much more! Spoilers abound, so enter at your own risk! But we hope you join us anyway. :) Are you an OUAT fan? Leave us your take on this episode in the comments! S01E01 - Once Upon A Time 1x01 "Pilot"
Join Amanda and Kampy as they jump into their first Show Off ever with Once Upon a Time season 1, episode 1 "Pilot". It's Amanda's turn first and she's showing Kampy her very first episode of OUAT. And boy do we have some stuff to talk about with this excellent pilot! We're talking about how you introduce six compelling characters in less than an hour, excellent costume choices, cheesy but not terrible CGI for 2011, color symbolism for all, questions answered and even more questions raised, and some banger one-liners, tbh. Stay tuned for part 2 of this OUAT series next week where we discuss the S1 finale! Are you an OUAT fan? Leave us your take on this pilot in the comments!
