“Arrested again” is one of those phrases that instantly triggers a hot take. We slow it down and trace the real path from cuffs to court, because the gap between arrest and release is where most people’s assumptions live. I’m a working police sergeant, and I’m not interested in easy villains. I want to know what protects the public, what gives victims a meaningful response, and what protects an accused person who hasn’t been proven guilty.We walk through the nuts and bolts of the criminal justice system: the probable cause arrest affidavit, the jail sergeant’s review, the first judge’s bond decision, and the reality that probable cause to arrest is a lower standard than proof beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
