Woman Uncaged
by Laura Gates-Lupton and Linda Katz
In these unfiltered, unedited conversations, Linda Katz and Laura Gates-Lupton get real about what it means to live full, joyous, and meaningful lives in a culture that continues to silence, shrink, and sideline women.Laura and Linda call out the ways patriarchy disguises systemic problems as personal failings, and they refuse to let women carry that lie alone. They question, illuminate, and lay bare the forces that shape women’s lives, while lifting up the possibility of something different. With candor, humor, and plenty of personal stories, they invite women to stop hating themselves, reclaim their power, and opt out of the narratives that were never theirs to begin with.

Make Summer Feel Like a Vacation Again
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 16, season 5 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! Summer is marketed like a built-in reset, but many women experience it as more planning, more coordinating, and more pressure to “make it magical” for everyone else. We dig into why summer can quietly increase the mental load for women and how that erodes the very thing we want most: freedom. We get concrete about making summer feel like summer again. Think simple season markers (Memorial Day to Labor Day), a visible summer wish list, and giving yourself real permission to do what lights you up, not just what looks good. We share our own plans too, from hiking state parks and discovering local events to traveling to Sweden, using a backyard pool on purpose, and saying yes to small adventures like rooftop bars or a Lake Superior weekend. We also dig into how we cannot muscle our way into greater freedom while holding on more tightly. We explore what it takes to loosen the reins and feel more unbridled this summer and beyond! The Inner Cages That Stop Us From Living Vibrant Lives
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to Woman Uncaged, Season 5, Episode 15! Something wild happens when we stop looking to the world outside us as the source for what's holding us back and start naming what’s happening inside. In this episode, we get personal about the “inner cages” that keep so many of us from living a vibrant life, even when we’re doing all the right things. We talk about the quiet rules, the old stories, and the invisible pressure to be “good” that can turn daily life into a performance instead of a magnificent adventure. We unpack how anxiety works as an inner cage, especially anticipatory anxiety, and take a look at the sneaky ways fear disguises itself as preference or personality. Are you truly introverted, or have you learned to call hiding “who I am”? We also challenge the cult of practicality, productivity, and optimization, and make space for the enlivening choice, the one that brings juice back into your days even if it is not perfect on paper. If you’re craving women’s empowerment, personal growth, and a grounded approach to courage, this conversation will meet you where you are and nudge you toward what you want. Cultivating Joy Even in Life's Hardest Moments
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Life rarely arrives in clean chapters. Sometimes you’re walking through heartbreak while also feeling more in love, more free, or more alive than you have in years and then you’re left wondering if you’re doing it “wrong.” We sit down to talk about holding polarities: the ability to hold grief and joy at the same time, without letting one erase the other. We get personal about anticipatory grief, the strange guilt that can show up when you’re still happy though you are not "supposed" to be, and the stories many of us inherited about “appropriate” feelings. We also widen the lens to women’s empowerment and the patriarchy’s quiet rules: don’t get too big, don’t celebrate too loudly, don’t tempt fate, and if your family is struggling you should sacrifice your success. We question who benefits when women shrink and we name joy as a real form of resilience, especially in difficult political times. You’ll leave with language for mixed emotions, practical ways to stop the guilt spiral, and a reminder we come back to again and again: no feeling is final. If this conversation helps you, subscribe, share it with a friend who’s carrying a lot, and leave a quick review so more people can find the podcast. What if indecision is actually something else?
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to Woman Uncaged Episode 13 of Season 5! Indecision gets treated like a flaw, but what if it’s actually something else? In this conversation, we pull on that thread and it opens up a surprisingly tender truth about decision making: every real choice includes a small death, a door closing, a version of you that won’t happen. When we don’t make space for grief, longing, and the unknown, we spin. We overthink. We call ourselves “bad at decisions” when we’re really trying to protect something that matters. We talk through how loss avoidance shows up in the biggest crossroads. We also name the modern pressure to optimize everything, and how chasing the “perfect” option can keep your mind split in two. Along the way, we unpack why the unlived life always looks perfect, how perfectionism feeds the fantasy of a spotless choice, and why “no regrets” can be a strange goal if you’re actually living bravely. The Cyclical Phenomenon of the Shrinking Woman
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 12, season 5 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! Heroin chic did not come back by accident, and neither did the sudden cultural obsession with getting smaller. In this week's episode, we follow that thread until it reveals something darker: diet culture and body image pressure can work like a leash, keeping women hungry, insecure, and busy policing themselves while real power moves in the background. We talk candidly about how restrictive beauty standards spread, from celebrity culture to influencer feeds, and why that speed matters for girls who are still forming their sense of self. Linda brings in art history that shows how “good women” were once idealized as physically weak and slumped, while strength was treated as a threat, and we connect that legacy to today’s mix of weight loss drugs, cosmetic procedures, anti-aging demands, and the nonstop commentary on what women eat and how they look.We also get personal. We share how eating disorders can be tangled up with control in chaotic times, why fatphobia keeps rising even when people have more exposure to different bodies, and how “I’m just worried about your health” often masks prejudice rather than care. Then we offer a grounded way forward that doesn’t rely on more rules or more restriction: start by naming this as a cultural problem, build from what’s already working, and ask what is nourishing, pleasurable, and true in your body.If you’ve felt trapped by diet culture, exhausted by body comparison, or angry about the way women’s rights and women’s bodies get policed at the same time, this one is for you. What if exhaustion is a design problem?
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to Woman Uncaged! This is Episode 11 of Season 5. Your back tightens, your jaw clenches, your brain won’t stop spinning and you reach for the fastest fix. We get it. Today, we're taking a hard look at where our energy really comes from and why so many “self-care” routines are actually more like self-recovery from a life that’s designed to drain us.We start with a deceptively simple question sparked by regular massages: how would we need to live so we don’t need so much recovery just to function? From there we unpack the difference between sustainable self-care and the commercial solutions we’re trained to buy, including the subtle way hustle culture and rigid schedules teach women to feel guilty for rest. We also talk about digital overload and share one of our favorite signals that contraction is taking over.If you want more energy without more hacks, press play. How to Create a Life That Feels Like Your Own
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 10, season 5 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! A lot of us say we want freedom, but our calendars and choices tell a different story. In this week's episode, we dig into the uncomfortable, liberating question at the heart of midlife growth: how do you create and live your own life instead of acting out someone else’s expectations? We start with what it looks like when life is prescripted, whether that comes from religion, family roles, culture, or the quieter fundamentalism of “good/bad” thinking that leaves no room to experiment. From there, we explore identity, people pleasing, the Good Girl pattern, and the reflex to deliver long explanations so nobody thinks we’re doing life “wrong.” We also share a grounded approach to life design: try things in small ways, allow detours, and stop treating every new interest like it has to become your calling. We close with a big theme that threads through everything: fear-based decision making. There are always costs and consequences to bold choices, but there are costs and consequences to staying small, too. We unpack how self-trust is built through real experience, why discomfort is often the price of freedom, and how the right community can help you grow without shame. If you’re ready for more authenticity, stronger boundaries, and a life that fits, listen now, then subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review. AI Is Not Neutral and Women Need a Plan
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Artificial intelligence and political power are colliding in ways that could push women out of economic security and back into narrower roles. AI is getting sold as “the future of work,” but what if it’s also being used as a future of control? We follow a thread that starts with a chilling public claim from a major tech CEO about shifting economic power and ends with a bigger, more personal question: who do we need to be to create a different future than the one these powerful patriarchal people would have us inhabit? We move from the scary headlines to practical resistance, then land on the hope found in community care and women building systems that can’t be easily taken away.Resources: Book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni WeschlerGoFundMe started by Isaiah Garza of Miracles for Humanity: https://gofund.me/8e2107a33Support the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. A Third Of Young Men Want Wives To Obey—We Ask WTF And What To Do Next
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to season 5, episode 8 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! A recent global survey found that nearly a third of Gen Z men believe a wife should obey her husband. Not only that, but young men are more than twice as likely as baby boomers to hold this belief. Which led us to ask, WTF? So in this week's episode, we take a hard look at how power myths, algorithm-fed “alpha” role models, and a culture of performance over depth are shaping boys—and starving relationships. We share why depth is hotter than dominance and why having a rich interior life—emotions, reflection, repair—isn’t a threat to manhood but the gateway to actual closeness. Along the way we question whether the masculine/feminine binary still serves anyone, or if it has become nothing more than a prescriptive costume that excludes, flattens, and distracts from what matters: two humans meeting as whole people. This conversation moves from survey stats to everyday longing: male friendships that go beyond sports and beer, partnerships with shared power, and family structures that distribute care. If you’re ready to trade scripts for substance and hierarchy for reciprocity, pull up a chair and imagine a world where relationships are equal, human, and alive. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend who needs it, and leave a review with one insight you’re taking into your relationships.Resources Mentioned:Guardian article by Jessica Murray: Gen z males twice as likely as baby boomers to believe wives should obey husbandsThe Atlantic article by Faith Hill: Young men aren't the only ones strugglingBurnt Toast by Virginia Sole-Smith: Or you can just do it fat Inciting Joy: Essays by Ross Gay Support the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. She Quit at 16 and Came Back for Joy
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you! What if the bravest way to win is to skate for joy instead of judgment? We sat down with hearts still buzzing after watching Alysa Liu light up the ice, and we followed that thread into a bigger conversation about self-worth, presence, and success without self-betrayal. Her story of leaving at 16, returning for the love of the feeling, and then radiating ease on the world’s biggest stage cracked something open for us. We trace a cultural pivot away from grind-and-ache ambition toward autonomy and aliveness. From Simone Biles’ boundary-setting to memories of Kerri Strug pushing through a broken ankle, we ask what we celebrate and why. Liu’s calm in the kiss-and-cry, her choice to train and live on her terms, and the way her joy moved a crowd highlight a powerful truth: technique impresses, but presence transmits. That transmission is available to all of us, whether we’re building a business, raising kids, making art, or healing our relationship with money. If you’re ready to trade perfection for presence and make your life your own, press play. Becoming Self-Governed: Resist Coercion and Control to Claim Your Authority
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 6, season 5 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! In this latest episode, we dive into self-governance as a daily practice that blends inner sovereignty with community power, and we track how that intersects with money, autonomy, and the right to be heard. From miscarriage criminalization becoming more common to the slow creep of voting barriers, we name where control is showing up and how not to “obey in advance” when systems attempt to usurp our agency. We also pull apart narratives designed to send women back into dependence, from tradwife aesthetics to head-of-household voting fantasies. Together we map small, consistent actions to claim our own authority. Along the way, we contrast extractive systems with regenerative ones—because a culture that honors biodiversity, reciprocity, and awe doesn’t just protect rights, it makes life worth living. If you’re craving clarity, courage, and concrete steps to reclaim your time, body, voice, and money, we hope this conversation is a spark. Why Is It So Hard To Say No?
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you! What if the most loving thing you say this week is no? Welcome to Season 5 Episode 5!We unpack why so many women default to appeasement: early grooming to be pleasing, the fawn response as a learned safety strategy, and the sales culture that pressures quick yeses. Then we rebuild choice from the body up. Learn how to slow urgency, map your personal signals for yes and no, and test boundaries in low-stakes moments so you can recognize red flags sooner. We talk about instinct injury, how it severs us from our inner mammal, and what it takes to restore that bond without swinging into all-or-nothing reactions.Expect frank examples—like saying no to hard-sell tactics, retiring the “I’m fine” reflex, and practicing small refusals while dating to see how a partner handles your autonomy. We connect the dots between chronic compliance and real-world costs: resentment, health issues, and relationships built on performance rather than presence. With nervous-system-aware support, a no becomes clean, kind, and steady, even when others test it. As John O’Donohue reminds us, being faithful to your life demands renewal. No is the gate that guards that fidelity and the ground from which a true yes can rise.If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs backup for their next boundary, and leave a review to help more listeners reclaim their yes and their no.Support the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. Embracing a Pleasure-Led Life Without Apology
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you! What if pleasure wasn’t a guilty whisper but a wise guide? We dive into a frank, tender conversation about how women can reclaim pleasure from the grip of productivity culture, sin narratives, and the “tiny treat” marketing trap. From basking in the sunlight on a winter day to long, meandering talks that light up the mind, we explore how genuine delight is inseparable from presence—and how noticing the moment where pleasure turns into numbing can break cycles of restriction and excess. We also widen the lens beyond the senses: what brings your mind pleasure, your heart pleasure, your soul pleasure? When you ask this daily, a pleasure-guided life stops sounding hedonistic and starts looking deeply humane. You may not recognize it from the outside—fewer shoulds, more signals—but you’ll feel it in the inside-out aliveness that follows. Join us for a thoughtful, funny, and gently rebellious invitation to choose joy without apology, stitch more meaning into your days, and let attention—not guilt—be your compass. If this conversation resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave us a quick review so more listeners can find it. Is Patriarchy's Real Target...MEN?
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 2, season 5 of the woman Uncaged Podcast! In this week's episode, Laura and Linda explore the patriarchal system from a new angle, wondering aloud what might reveal itself if we look at men as the main objects of subjugation rather than women. Inspired by a recent podcast episode of The Tea with Jameela Jamil, we investigate this idea to see if it holds water. We talk about how young men are those most often sent off to die in wars or that frequently hold the most dangerous jobs, and how this has been branded and sold to them as a medal of manhood to be sought after. But who really profits from this system? And if men are indeed the main targets of patriarchy, how might this shift or expand our approach to dismantling this harmful system? We highly recommend pairing this week's episode with Myriam Francois' interview with Jameela Jamil on The Tea: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3te00qCIZAE6vCrWIKsCO5?si=iNgRU0gBToG1q7IkqYJZOwSupport the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. Backlash and Bravery: The Attack on Feminism

When women who know their minds disappear from view, men lose models for growth, relationships flatten, and a market built on insecurity thrives. We challenge the claim that women are naturally more conformist and look at how submission is enforced by systems (military, corporate, and cultural) that prize obedience. We also take a hard look at beauty standards and the cult of youth, asking the hard question: who are we doing this for? The answers expose how profit, patriarchy, and fear make us smaller. Staying Radically Human in this AI/Automated World
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to the 75th episode of Woman Uncaged, which is also our season four finale. In this episode we’re naming something a lot of us can feel in our bones: the world is speeding up, getting more convenient, more automated and somehow less human. We're interrogating culture, power, convenience, efficiency, and what gets lost when humans outsource too much of our humanness. What does it mean to stay radically human when the culture keeps training us to live like machines? We talk about what AI can mimic and why that mimicry can be seductive (and a little creepy). We dig into what machines can’t actually do and we explore why shared experiences matter more than ever (movies in a crowded theater, concerts, dinner without phones, third spaces that aren’t work or home), and why meaning almost never comes from efficiency; even when efficiency is satisfying. If you’ve been noticing your nervous system getting jangly, your attention getting fragmented, or your life getting smaller and more screen-shaped, this episode is an invitation to exhale and to choose differently, because the hunger underneath all of this is simple and profound: we want to be seen, heard, and met by other real, imperfect, alive humans. Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 15, season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! In this week's episode we discuss self-care...but maybe not in the way that you would think.Self-care has become an unquestioned mandate for women. In some ways, of course it is an improvement over the impossible beauty standards of yesteryear (which were solely externally focused), but in other ways, it has become an extension of them, requiring yet another unattainable level of perfection. There is always more that we could be doing for our wellness, ladies!! Not only can this prevent us from leading big, juicy, and joyful lives (a most natural form of self-care!), it also traps us into constantly focusing on fixing and improving ourselves rather than using our energy to change the culture at large.Support the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. The Power of One Word to Shape a Year
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 14, season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! In this episode of the Woman Uncaged Podcast, we dive into one of our favorite end-of-year rituals: choosing a Word of the Year. As we record in December, we’re both deep in reflection mode, looking back at the words that have guided us in past seasons and feeling into what might want to shape the year ahead. We share how this practice first came into our lives, how it has evolved, and why we now approach certain words with a bit more side-eye than we used to. We talk about the difference between choosing an intention versus a goal, how a single word can act as a lens through which life reveals unexpected wisdom, and how sometimes that wisdom arrives with a biting sense of humor. We explore the emotional, spiritual, and deeply human terrain of naming what we want more of and what we’re ready to release. We also reflect on how this practice helps us notice our own pendulum swings between extremes, how it reveals the quiet places we still seek external validation, and how it invites us to care for ourselves, our bodies, and our lives in more intentional ways. And of course, we’d love to hear from you: Do you choose a Word of the Year? What has it opened up for you? Join us for this thoughtful, funny, honest conversation as we welcome the turning of the year together. The Cost of Denying Our Own Power
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 13, season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! When we deny our own power, we project it outward...onto our spouses, other people, and even institutions. In this episode, we share how we see this phenomenon in ourselves, our clients, and the world at large, providing real world examples to illuminate a dynamic that often goes unseen and unspoken. We begin to untangle how power, agency, and responsibility relate to one another, and how anger can make us feel powerful, but doesn't necessarily mean we are in our power. We also explore how our relationship with power relates to our relationship with money, and how the old models just don't work for many women.Resources Mentioned:The Soul of Money by Lynne TwistThe World-Ending Fire: The Essential Wendell BerrySupport the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. Slow Uncaging for Long-Lasting Change
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to Episode 12 of Season 4!In this episode, we unpack a truth we’ve both lived over and over again: real, lasting change is rarely quick, and the pressure to deliver (or receive) instant transformation can actually get in the way of the deeper work.We talk about the myth of the “insight machine,” the belief that coaches must produce rapid breakthroughs to prove their value, and how clients often feel pressured to change fast because of the investment they’ve made. Through stories from our own practices and lives, we explore why slow, embodied, integrated change is not only more sustainable, it’s more honest. We also get real about the messy middle: the moments when things feel worse before they feel better, when grief rises, when old identities fall away, and when the growth you asked for doesn’t look anything like you expected. And we name the very human tendency to set rigid outer rules when what really needs tending is our inner landscape and self-trust.If you’ve ever questioned whether you’re “doing enough,” or worried that your progress is too slow, this conversation will help you exhale. Your unfolding doesn’t need to be fast to be real.Join Laura's Black Friday Offer Lab here: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/BlackFridayOfferLabSupport the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. Singular Focus: Necessary or Vestige of the Patriarchy?
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to Episode 11 of Season 4!In this week's episode, we explore the sought-after idea of "singular focus" and how that applies in our lives, our work, and our activism in support of the causes that matter to us. Singular focus is often hailed as being valuable and necessary to doing deep work that has impact, but both of us have found this type of focus to be mostly elusive in our lives. Is that a problem to be solved? Does it mean that we are fickle and just can't choose? Or is the desire for simplicity, essentialism, discipline, and focus something that we have been trained to want by a system created by, and for, men?Resources Mentioned (Though they are steeped in this mindset of focus...):- Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown- Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal NewportSupport the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. When You Don’t Know What’s Next
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to Episode 10 of Season 4! In this Halloween episode of The Woman Uncaged Podcast, we explore the concept of liminal space: those in-between times when something has ended but the next chapter hasn’t yet revealed itself. Recording on Samhain, a time when the veil between worlds is said to be thin, feels especially fitting as we explore the emotional, spiritual, and practical dimensions of this “in-between.” We talk about how disorienting it can feel when the life you’ve known no longer fits, yet the new one hasn’t taken shape. Both of us share our personal experiences with this sense of floating with Linda questioning what she's doing with her work and life, and Laura navigating her own transitions after a period of nomadic living. We unpack how our culture’s obsession with doing, planning, and productivity makes it so hard to rest in uncertainty and how that discomfort often drives us to fill the void too quickly, whether by jumping into new projects, relationships, or responsibilities, just to feel a sense of direction. We discuss the importance of resisting that urge and allowing these fallow times to do their quiet work of soul ripening and self-discovery.Throughout the conversation, we explore practices that help us stay grounded during these in-between phases. Liminal space isn’t a failure or a wrong turn; it’s an invitation. It’s the place where who we are becoming begins to take root, if we can just stay long enough to let it unfold.Support the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. Unbranding Ourselves: Uncaging from Commodity Culture
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 9, season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! Today, Laura and Linda explore the modern phenomenon of treating ourselves like a brand. What do we gain from it, and what do we stand to lose?In the age of online businesses and social media influencers, there is pressure to approach ourselves (especially if we are solopreneurs) as a brand and thereby turn our lives into content. But while brands require consistency, human beings thrive on change and growth. When we look at ourselves like a brand, we pigeonhole ourselves, focusing only on certain areas of our lives while excluding others entirely. Through selfies and self-documentation, even those of us who are not in business for ourselves can inadvertently begin to transform our lived experiences into content to be consumed by others...while the experience is happening! Our everyday lives turn into something public and through this process, the soulful and secret is lost. In our over-commodified lives, perhaps unbranding ourselves is a key facet of becoming an uncaged woman. Instinct, Power, and Embracing Your Inner Wild
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 8, season 4! In this episode of Woman Uncaged, we ask: what does it really mean to be wild? We bust the myth that wildness is about chaos or running barefoot through the woods—it’s actually something intrinsic, already alive inside us. With Linda, we explore how reclaiming our wildness connects us to power, boundaries, instinct, and the rhythms of the natural world. We talk about the shift from “good girl” or “rebel” to the wise and wild woman, and how honoring our instincts—rather than suppressing them—can restore sovereignty and vitality. Our Quest for the Fresh in a World Gone Stale
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 7, season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! Today, Laura and Linda dive into their quest for what feels new and fresh, with a healthy side of ranting about what has started to taste very stale. In this world that is constantly trying to sell us on a five-step program we don't need, vying for our attention (without offering any nourishment in return), and convincing us that convenience will somehow make our lives more juicy and meaningful, Laura and Linda realize that what feels fresh to them isn't necessarily new. Rather, it is a simpler way of living and doing business, creating more spaciousness, focusing more on letting good work speak for itself, and centering relationships and individual approaches instead of easily scalable solutions.Laura also gives listeners a sneak peak into the new group offering that she is cooking up for next year! Uncaging the Creature Within
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 6, season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! In this episode, we dive into the juicy, messy, and deeply human truth of what it means to remember our creatureliness. We’ve noticed how often our culture talks about bodies like they’re machines—systems that should function the same every day, optimized, predictable, “high vibe” on demand. But we are not coffee grinders or computers. We are animals. We are creatures. And forgetting that truth comes at a cost: exhaustion, anxiety, disconnection from our own bodies, and even a loss of joy.As we explore this topic together, we talk about the grief and tenderness that surface when we allow ourselves to feel sensation again, the way culture dismisses hormones and cycles as “inconvenient,” and how longing, joy, and sorrow often live side by side in the body. We laugh at the absurdity of “downloads,” grieve the ways we’ve numbed ourselves in the past, and remind each other that being human means being messy, contradictory, and alive. This conversation is an invitation to reclaim our place in the dance of life, to honor our bodies as wild, wise, imperfect creatures—and to allow ourselves the full spectrum of what it means to be alive.Resources Mentioned:Biodiversity and Carnival Culture Article: https://www.themarginalian.org/2025/08/20/brian-eno-carnival/Book: Returning Home to Our Bodies by Abigail Rose ClarkeQuoya Inspired Movement: https://www.qoyainspiredmovement.com/Support the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. No More Codependence: Uncaged Relationships
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to the Woman Uncaged Podcast, Season 4, Episode 5! In this episode, we dive into a question that so many of us wrestle with but rarely have clear models for: what does a healthy relationship actually look like?We talk about why so many of the examples we’ve grown up with, including songs, movies, even our own families, often normalize codependence, drama, or self-sacrifice instead of grounded, reciprocal love. Together, we explore what it means to meet one another as whole beings, to communicate directly without manipulation, and to hold onto ourselves even in the messy, beautiful friction of intimacy. We share our own experiences of navigating conflict, negotiating differences, and moving beyond the “tit-for-tat” or 50/50 myths that keep women over-giving and under-receiving in relationships. And we ask the hard but necessary questions: how do we recognize when compromise simply papers over conflict, when we’re overriding our instincts, or when we’re minimizing our own needs in the name of being “a good woman”?If you’ve ever found yourself drained after being with certain people, silencing your truth to keep the peace, or wondering if your anger means you’re the problem—this conversation will remind you that your feelings are valid, your wholeness matters, and healthy love begins with you.Resources mentioned:Article on Liberating Motherhood on Substack: https://zawn.substack.com/p/im-a-therapist-in-an-abusive-relationshipByron Katie: https://thework.com/Support the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. Moving Beyond the Carrot and the Stick
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 4, season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! In today's episode we dive into how to move beyond the carrot and the stick in our relationships with ourselves, with how we raise children, how we train dogs, and how we relate to one another. We live in a paradigm that is dependent upon, and celebrates, punishment and reward as heathy ways to engineer the behavior we want, but what if there was another way? What if using the carrot and the stick actually comes at the cost of relationship and sends the feelings that drive behavior underground (only for them to pop up elsewhere at another time)? In this episode, Laura and Linda explore whether behaviors, wanted or not, could be met by the presence of the conscious mother within, and instead of resorting to the carrot or the stick we could create the internal and external conditions that are truly required for growth and blossoming.Resources Mentioned:DOGS Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dogs/id1674962407Rutger Bregman on A Life of Greatness Podcast with Sarah Grynberg:https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/rutger-bregman-how-small-acts-of-courage-change-the-world/id1457268944?i=1000723484406Qoya: www.qoya.love Lianne Raymond Coaching: https://www.lianneraymond.com/Smarter, Faster, Better by Charles Duhigg: https://www.amazon.com/Smarter-Faster-Better-Productive-Business/dp/081299339XSupport the show~Laura's Discounted Walk & Talk Session: https://lauragatesluptonmswcpc.as.me/walkandtalk~Linda's book: Homecoming: One Woman's Story of Dismantling Her Inner Cage and Freeing Her Wild Feminine Soul ~Laura's Monday Money Missives: https://goodwithmoney.substack.com/~Linda's Wild Woman in the Burbs: https://lindasewalliuskatz.substack.com/Support the Show: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2281161/supporters/newEmail us: [email protected]. What happens when you realize that the life you’ve built—and even the relationships you’ve nurtured—don’t actually reflect who you are? In this conversation, we dive into how so many women begin silencing their true voices in adolescence just to belong, and how that survival strategy often follows us into adulthood. The result? Friendships that drain instead of nourish, partnerships where we feel unseen, and a nagging fear that if we stopped performing, there might be nothing left of us underneath. We talk honestly about what it takes to unbury that authentic self—why the process can feel terrifying, why midlife often brings this reckoning, and how to begin gently reclaiming your own voice. Uncaging Cronehood: Redefining Aging for Ourselves
Send us a text. We'd love to hear from you!Welcome to episode 2 of season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! In this episode Laura and Linda dive into uncaged cronehood, that developmental stage in a woman's life that occurs between midlife and elderhood. Often misunderstood, pathologized, or entirely ignored societally, we explore another possibility for this phase of life. What if it is an opportunity for women to uncage themselves more fully? To unhook from the collective culture so that we can do more of our work outside of the dominant patriarchal paradigm? To step out of performance and step into presence? This time of life is often framed as one solely of loss; but if we turn towards ourselves and one another, it can be one of tremendous growth, joy, and courage. Rather than succumbing to fear or dystopian visions, we wonder aloud: what if this shift opened the door to more creativity, rest, equity, and community? What if universal basic income or healthcare became the foundation for a society not built around exhaustion and survival, but around purpose, care, and possibility? We dive into what that word really means, beyond the idea of simply putting women in charge, and explore the deeper values it might center: interdependence, collaboration, reciprocity, and community. We imagine what could be possible if we stepped away from the extractive, isolating norms of patriarchy and moved toward something more vibrant and life-affirming. What would shift if we truly believed that life is sacred? What would change if we honored the natural world, prioritized relationships, and pooled our resources? We also discuss the hidden costs of things we take for granted, like fencing off our homes, and the radical possibilities in gift economies and creative, collective living. ABOUT THIS SHOW
In these unfiltered, unedited conversations, Linda Katz and Laura Gates-Lupton get real about what it means to live full, joyous, and meaningful lives in a culture that continues to silence, shrink, and sideline women.Laura and Linda call out the ways patriarchy disguises systemic problems as personal failings, and they refuse to let women carry that lie alone. They question, illuminate, and lay bare the forces that shape women’s lives, while lifting up the possibility of something different. With candor, humor, and plenty of personal stories, they invite women to stop hating themselves, reclaim their power, and opt out of the narratives that were never theirs to begin with.
