In this latest episode, WUN Advocate Gill Edwards talks with Claire Treadwell, Director of Product Management at Everflow.Claire talks about how, when she was 21 and writing her dissertation at university, her tutor identified that she was dyslexic, after years of being mischaracterised by teachers, and feeling that she had to hide her difficulties. This identification led to an Educational Psychologist picking up on the presence of Irlen’s Syndrome, a little talked about neurological visual processing disorder that affects how the brain interprets light and visual information, causing reading difficulties, light sensitivity, and visual distortions. Claire talks about how, for her, her differences are her superpowers, and how technological advances have helped her overcome barriers both at home and in the workplace.Claire and Gill discuss the importance of male allyship, and also, as women, having the confidence to celebrate your own strengths and achievements. Meg Ginsberg is an assistant project manager at South West Water who has forged an inspiring career in the wastewater industry after facing significant personal and professional challenges. Born in Guildford and now based in Devon, Meg became a mother during the pandemic and navigated multiple surgeries that left her a wheelchair user by the age of 18. Originally pursuing a career in nursing, she shifted to project management, completing an apprenticeship and soon to start a degree apprenticeship at Exeter.At South West Water, she manages large-scale projects across Devon and Cornwall, including flood and pollution reduction, working closely with engineers to modernise Victorian sewage systems and future-proof infrastructure.Passionate about inclusivity, Meg launched "Construct Ability”, an initiative to help disabled people enter and thrive in construction and engineering.With sights set on becoming an engineer herself one day, her unique perspective as a wheelchair user drives her mission to make the industry more accessible, adaptable, and diverse. She joined the Finance team at Scottish and Southern Energy in 1998, before moving to join Scottish Water in 2002. In 2006, she was seconded to Business Stream to create the governance framework, funding structure and strategy for the new business in preparation for the retail market opening to competition. Jo became Finance Director of Business Stream in 2006 and was appointed Chief Executive in October 2014.During Jo’s time as CEO, she has led the successful delivery of the company’s ambitious growth strategy, helping cement Business Stream as one of the leading players in the UK water market. This has included two acquisitions of scale and securing a number of high profile, multi-million pound contracts. Lauren Tyler - known as Loz - is the former Head of Innovation at Southern Water and a passionate advocate for innovation as an essential business capability. A problem-solver at heart, Loz is known for her creative curiosity, strategic thinking, and humble leadership.Joining the sector at the beginning of AMP7, Loz established the Bluewave innovation team – a diverse group tasked to support the business across pollutions, customer experience, leakage and behaviour change – to name but a few. Her ability to flex across such broad problem areas in the water sector was born out of an early career in consultancy, where she worked with clients across FMCG, telecoms, transport, and women’s health.Whilst building a capability at Southern Water, Loz also became a mum to two children, now almost 2 and 4 years old. Her experience of having children exposed her to the state of women’s health care in the UK, and she is passionate about helping solve issues surrounding menstruation, fertility and early parenthood as a result of that lived experience.
