C'était sans doute l'homme le plus mystérieux du Proche-Orient. Mais j'emploie peut-être l'imparfait à tort. Avec ce diable d'homme, sait-on jamais ?... Je veux parler d'Abou Nidal qui a sans doute été l'un des terroristes les plus redoutables des années 70 et 80. Un homme, qui s'est toujours gardé d'apparaître en public, qui a fui les photographes toute sa vie, et qui est vraisemblablement mort à Bagdad en 2002 dans des circonstances qui n'ont jamais vraiment été élucidées.Mais qui était ce terroriste palestinien à qui on attribuait un bon millier de morts et des dizaines d'attentats ? Un petit bonhomme qui ne payait pas de mine, un bureaucrate de la lutte armée, d'après ceux qui l'ont connu. Un type qui, paradoxalement, avait personnellement peur de la violence et savait à peine se servir du pistolet mitrailleur polonais WZ 63 qui ne quittait jamais son attaché-case.Etrange personnage qui s'est mis successivement, lui et son organisation de tueurs, au service de la plupart des pays arabes de la région et qui, farouche adversaire de Yasser Arafat, a peut-être fait assassiner plus de dirigeants palestiniens que les Israéliens eux-mêmes !Autant d'aspects qui soulèvent de nombreuses questions sur cet homme de l'ombre.
