On croît les connaître par les nombreux films qui leur ont été consacrés... Les yakusas ! Des gangsters japonais extrêmement violents mais qui obéissent à un véritable code de l'honneur, subissent une cruelle initiation en se coupant une phalange, se tatouent le corps et tirent leur sabre à la première occasion. Bref, des samouraïs dévoyés mais qui gardent un esprit chevaleresque et sont dévoués corps et âme au chef de leur clan.La réalité est moins glorieuse et plus prosaïque... Et surtout beaucoup moins folklorique. Les yakusas, même si leur nombre a diminué, n'ont en rien perdu de leur influence, sont toujours étroitement liés au personnel politique japonais et contrôlent des pans entiers de l'activité du pays. Une intrication inquiétante étant donné la puissance économique du Japon.Mais Monsieur X choisit d'abord d'éclaircir les conditions dans lesquelles les yakusas ont prospéré après la capitulation japonaise de 1945. Et il met en lumière leurs rapports avec les services secrets alliés.Un dernier mot avant d'écouter mon interlocuteur : un excellent ouvrage de deux journalistes américains sur l'emprise de la mafia japonaise n'a pu trouver d'éditeur au Japon. C'est dire combien les yakusas font toujours peur !
