61 - Erika + Cheyne Tessier, Origin Beer Project | Like-minded creators building community one small step at a time. Learning from their elders and a hands on approach. Discovering their found family.
Erika and Cheyne, founders of Origin Beer Project, fit together like puzzle pieces. He was raised by his single mother and a tribe of strong women. She was raised by her father surrounded by four brothers. He was a born builder, tinkering with legos and other blocks from a young age. She learned to be assertive and loud, helping her survive in a male-dominated industry. They both have always valued the process of creating from scratch, a trait passed down from hard-working grandparents. While they both had a strong family foundation, they have taken to their second family, and more broadly, their community of Providence, Rhode Island. Origin Beer Project is a byproduct of that communal support. They are builders. They value the process of creating from scratch. They are puzzle pieces, completing each other with complimentary upbringings. Origin is an amalgamation of it all.Origin Beer Project links: IG, websiteBeer People links: IG, website,*new* merch store (!!!)Snazzy theme music by Beer Person Gerry Mayer, check out more of his tunes hereArtwork by the illustrious Lotus of @lotiecreatesPhoto credit for episode art: Edible Rhody

60 - LaTreace "Beery Godmother" Harris, Cicerone + BJCP Judge + Beer Education Consultant | Superpowers: Sprinkling beer knowledge, building culture through education + shared experiences
When you work in public health and a global pandemic hits, it truly puts things into perspective. It can also provide clarity. LaTreace Harris finally understood the value and importance of having another meaningful thing in your life other than what helps you pay the bills. Out of this clarity came The Beery Godmother. Certified cicerone? Check. Certified BJCP Judge? Check. Beer Education Consultant? Check. Simply put: she does it all. What started as a little dip into the beer shallow end (drinking a Blue Moon while watching football with friends) has become a huge life change for LaTreace. She hasn’t cut corners either. She’s brought the same work ethic to beer as she established in her career in public health. She’s always been curious as to how things work, as to where things come from. She’s answered those questions and more when it comes to beer. She’s also shared her knowledge through The Beer Godmother Consulting, LLC. Any beer person would be lucky to have a Berry Godmother like LaTreace.LaTreace's links: website, IGBeer People links: IG, merch store, websiteSnazzy theme music by Beer Person Gerry Mayer, check out more of his tunes hereArtwork by the illustrious Lotus of @lotiecreates

59 - Jacky Rice, Sky Fox + Pink Boots Society; Travis Mullen, Stable 12 | Building culture to make everything better, industry vets intertwined thru biology + homebrewing
Sometimes it’s not love at first sight. As Jacky Rice put it, Travis Mullen “just wore on me”. Sometimes beer people are just meant to be together. Jacky grew up on a dairy farm, Travis brews in dairy tanks. They both studied biology and are avid homebrewers. Both understand the importance of building a strong culture within your place of work. As Travis puts it, "build culture and fucking have good people around you and everything becomes better because of that." Jacky and Travis are culture builders who came together over a trade of cans for grain. A true brewing industry meet cute. They also both do the work. Jacky through her work at Sly Fox and the Pink Boots Society and Travis through his work at Stable 12 and his dedication to his team. Together, the biology adds up. Whether they are homebrewing, running, jamming or biking, they have created something that has grown and sustained, and their energy, compassion, and attitude makes their places at work better.Sly Fox IG, Pink Boots Philly IG, Stable 12 IGBeer People links: IG, merch store, websiteSnazzy theme music by Beer Person Gerry Mayer, check out more of his tunes hereArtwork by the illustrious Lotus of @lotiecreates

58 - Sarah Real, Hot Plate + Pink Boots + MJF | Creating a safe + inclusive 3rd space, getting hands in literal + metaphorical dirt, brewing under desperate circumstances, #3 new brewery USA Today
Sarah Real has felt desperation. Faced with unforeseen and unrelenting circumstances, she was left with a barely livable apartment, offering zero comfort, zero warmth, and zero safety. She was not deterred. She had spent her life in the dirt; always questioning, always learning, always challenging herself. In the ultimate face of this aforementioned desperation, Sarah went out to the store to buy a hot plate. This hot plate was a necessity; she needed to be able to cook. It also provided her with an opportunity to keep her passion alive. It allowed her to keep brewing; keep working towards her ultimate goal of opening a brewery so that people who may not have a safe "first space" can have somewhere safe to be. Of course, she named her brewery Hot Plate. It is a symbol of her journey. It is a reminder that we are all on our journey full of baggage. She hopes you can leave your baggage at the door and find your "third space" within her brewery’s walls.Hot Plate links: IG, FB, websiteBeer People links: IG, website,*new* merch store (!!!)Snazzy theme music by Beer Person Gerry Mayer, check out more of his tunes hereArtwork by the illustrious Lotus of @lotiecreates

56 - Mark Ricketts, Summer in the Field | Fatherhood, growing thru honest feedback, sharing beer + building community thru shared passions
Mark Ricketts wants to grow. While he says that he isn’t a great brewer… yet… he has a thirst for honest feedback from the great brewers in the craft beer industry. Mark has the kind of humility that can make any person truly great: he knows his limitations and wants to push past them through honest evaluation and good old fashioned hard work. Mark brings that same passion to fatherhood and to his brewing and fermenting project, Summer in the Fields. Splitting time between Philly and Jamaica, Mark has the kind of energy that people gravitate towards. Mark has that ‘it’ factor that people want to surround themselves with. He even raises money for causes he believes in and brings people together over beer. Must be why people love to work with him and why people love to know him. Kindness, compassion, a desire to grow, and beer? Sounds like the perfect recipe.Mark's links: IGBeer People links: IG, websiteSnazzy theme music by Beer Person Gerry Mayer, check out more of his tunes hereArtwork by the illustrious Lotus of @lotiecreates
