30. Healed but Still Bound? Living in Christ's Freedom
Have you ever healed from something… but still felt like the old version of you was lingering in the background? Have you ever noticed the wounds may be closing, but the labels from your past still fit a little too comfortably? In this episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, Norma shares a deeply personal story from her healing journey and reveals an important truth many people overlook: healing and freedom are not always the same thing. Sometimes our emotions begin to heal, but our minds are still operating from survival mode. Trauma may calm in the body, yet the mind still expects danger. True freedom begins when our mind, mindset, and identity align with God’s truth. Together, we explore how renewing your mind, replacing lies with Scripture, and accepting the identity God speaks over you can lead to the freedom Christ already purchased for you. So grab your Starbucks drink and come as you are — messy bun and all — because today we’re trying on a new outfit. 🌿 In This Episode Norma shares: A personal story about believing she was healed but realizing she was still thinking like a victim • How trauma can calm in the nervous system while survival thinking remains in the mind • Why renewing the mind is essential to walking in freedom • How replacing lies with Scripture rewires our thinking • How God restores the identity trauma tried to break When our mind, mindset, and identity align with God’s truth, freedom becomes something we can truly walk in. ✍️ Journal Prompt What mindset from your past still tries to follow you into your healing? What truth from God replaces it? 🌱 Faith-Rooted Step Ask God to reveal one mindset still rooted in your past. Then choose a specific scripture that speaks truth over that area and meditate on it throughout the week. 💌 Join the Email Family If today’s episode encouraged you, I would love to stay connected. 29. Untangling Overwhelm: What Jesus Says to the Anxious Mind
Have you ever felt like you're juggling your entire life—and still failing at everything? Do you ever wonder if the exhaustion you’ve normalized was never what God intended for you? In this episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, we explore Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11:28–30, where He speaks directly to weary hearts and anxious minds. Jesus doesn’t ask us to perform better. He invites us to come, take, and learn. Together we’ll unpack what that means and how it can help you move from overwhelmed to empowered—with less stress and more joy. So grab your notebook, take a deep breath, and let’s begin untangling the weight you’ve been carrying. Scripture for This Episode Matthew 11:28–30 (NLT) “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’” Simple Practices to Start Untangling Overwhelm Choose one small step this week: Spend 5–10 minutes reading scripture • Journal honestly about what is weighing on your heart • Sit quietly in prayer • Reflect and meditate on God’s promises Small strands untangle slowly. And that’s okay. A Reminder for the Weary Heart You don’t need a bigger container to hold your stress. You don’t need to master the juggling act. You simply need to stop carrying it alone. Because rest isn’t about having fewer responsibilities. It’s about who you’re yoked with. 💌 Let’s Stay Connected! 28. Healing Anxiety in the Wilderness You Didn't Choose
Have you ever found yourself in a season you didn’t choose… and your anxiety started speaking louder than your faith? What if healing doesn’t begin with escape — but with being seen? Some wilderness seasons arrive without permission. A betrayal. A loss. A diagnosis. A closed door. A life shift you never packed for. And when we don’t choose the wilderness, anxiety often becomes our unwanted companion. In this deeply personal episode, I share my own wilderness experience and Just like Hagar in Genesis 16, I discovered that the desert is not proof of God’s absence — it can be the very place He reveals Himself most clearly. This episode will help you understand: Why anxiety often grows in seasons you didn’t choose How being seen by God calms your nervous system before circumstances change Why identity must be restored before restoration unfolds How the wilderness becomes preparation — not punishment Scripture in This Episode Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” 1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) “For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Romans 8:28 (NKJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” The Three Healing Truths Anxiety Often Grows in Places We Didn’t Choose When control is stripped away, the brain searches for safety. Survival mode feels like anxiety — but even there, God responds when we call. Being Seen Calms the Nervous System Before It Changes the Circumstance God stabilizes your heart before He shifts your location. Being seen restores dignity. Being seen stabilizes identity. Being seen signals safety. Identity Is Restored Before Circumstances Change The wilderness is not punishment. It is preparation. God does not waste hardship — He uses it to build what promise will require. Journal Prompt What wilderness am I walking through that I didn’t choose? What anxious thoughts rise in this season? Finish this sentence honestly: “God, if You really see me here, then…” Faith-Rooted Step for This Week When anxiety rises, pause and whisper: “El Roi, You see me before You move me.” Place your hand over your heart. Take one slow breath. Let yourself be seen. A Personal Note Whispers from Heaven has officially entered the manuscript editing phase — and I am so grateful to walk this stretch with you. 27.When Strength Returns After the Fire
Have you ever experienced a great win—only to feel emotionally empty afterward? Have you ever wondered why strength seems to disappear once the fire is over? Friend, if that’s you, I want you to hear this right away: you are not failing, and nothing has gone wrong. Sometimes the deepest exhaustion doesn’t come after failure. It comes after a great victory. In this episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, we step into the story of Elijah—not at the height of the miracle, but in the quiet aftermath. After one of the most powerful displays of God’s power in Scripture, Elijah runs, collapses from exhaustion, and asks God to take his life. And instead of correction, God responds with care. In Renewed in the Whisper: When Strength Returns After the Fire, we talk about post-crisis exhaustion, why it’s common to feel low after you’ve “done everything right,” and how God restores us—not through pressure or intensity, but through rest, nourishment, and His gentle presence. So grab your notebook, take a deep breath, and settle in—this episode is an invitation to restore your soul. ✨ In This Episode, You’ll Learn: Why emotional and physical exhaustion often shows up after the crisis ends How prolonged stress affects the nervous system—and why collapse doesn’t mean weakness What Elijah’s breakdown teaches us about God’s compassion toward the weary Why God addresses the body before He addresses the calling How renewal comes through gentleness, not intensity Why God often speaks in a whisper after the fire Journal Prompt: Where have I been expecting myself to be strong, when God may be inviting me to be restored instead? As you reflect, consider: What “fire” have I recently come through? What emotions surfaced after the win? What might my body and heart be asking for right now—rest, reassurance, quiet, nourishment, or God’s nearness? Faith-Rooted Step: This week, create a quiet space—not to do, but to receive. Choose one gentle moment: Sit in silence with God for 5 minutes Take a slow walk and breathe deeply Read Scripture softly, without studying or analyzing Pray: “Lord, I’m not here to do more. I’m here to receive what You want to restore.” Renewal is received, not rushed. 💛 A Gentle Reminder: If you’re tired today—especially after doing everything right—know this: You are not behind. You are being renewed for what comes next. The God who calls down fire is the same God who feeds you in the cave. 🎧 Stay Connected: Behind the scenes, Whispers from Heaven has entered the manuscript editing phase, and I’ve opened this season so you can be part of the journey. 26. Practicing Daily Courage: Learning to Walk Without Fear Leading
Have you ever reacted to something and wondered, “Why did that feel so big?” What if fear isn’t loud—but quietly leading more than you realize? Fear doesn’t usually announce itself. It slips into our reactions, our pauses, and our assumptions—especially when trauma is involved. In this episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, we’re slowing things down to talk about daily courage—not the dramatic, one-time bravery moments, but the quiet, faithful steps that slowly rewrite old trauma responses. In this episode, we explore: Why fear often leads before we’re even aware it’s present The difference between eliminating fear and refusing to let it lead How courage is practiced in ordinary, everyday moments What trauma patterns look like when they show up as overreactions or withdrawal How small, consistent faith steps begin to rewire old responses Why obedience and courage are often quieter than we expect Scripture Focus “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” — Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) This verse underscores that courage isn’t instant—it’s cultivated. Reflection Question Where in your daily life is fear quietly trying to take the lead—and what would it look like to practice courage there instead? Faith-Rooted Next Step Choose one small, intentional response this week where you pause before reacting and invite God to lead instead of fear. Courage grows through consistency, not intensity. Listener Encouragement You don’t have to be brave all at once. You just have to take the next faithful step. Stay Connected 💌 Let’s Stay Connected! 25. Faith Over Fear: Mind Shifts When Trauma Echoes Back
Fear doesn’t always show up uninvited. Sometimes, it moves in quietly—because once upon a time, danger was real. In today’s episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, we’re talking about what happens when fear lingers long after the threat is gone—and how faith gently restores order without shaming the parts of us that learned to survive. This conversation is for the woman who loves God but still feels fear rising in familiar moments. The one who knows faith is real—but trauma echoes louder some days. You are not broken. You are responding to what once was. And faith is still available to lead you forward. In This Episode, We Explore: Why fear often becomes the atmosphere after trauma How fear can quietly step into leadership during survival seasons The difference between fear informing us vs. fear ruling us How faith doesn’t erase fear—but restores it to its proper place Gentle mind shifts that help retrain trust after trauma Teaching Points Covered: Fear Became the Atmosphere Because Danger Was Real Fear wasn’t weakness—it was wisdom in a season that required survival. Fear Ruled Because No One Else Could When protection and guidance were absent, fear stepped in to lead. Faith Restores Fear to Its Proper Place Faith doesn’t silence fear—it simply refuses to let it sit on the throne. Journal Prompt from the Episode: Where has fear been trying to lead my life instead of simply inform it? What did fear once protect me from—and where might God now be inviting me to trust Him with leadership instead? Faith-Rooted Step: This week, notice when fear shows up. Pause and pray: “Fear, you may inform me—but you do not get to lead me. God, I trust You to guide my next step.” Then take one small, faith-aligned action—not a leap, not a sprint—just a step. Scripture Mentioned: 2 Timothy 1:7 Psalm 56:3 Isaiah 43:18–19 Free Resource for You: 🎁 Freebie: 3 Faith-Filled Mind Shifts When Fear Tries to Lead A gentle, scripture-anchored guide to help you restore faith to the lead—especially when fear feels familiar. 👉 Email Me 💌 Let’s Stay Connected! 24. When Obedience Feels Too Costly
What do you do when obedience feels heavier than disobedience—and God’s mercy feels unfair? What if the thing you’re avoiding isn’t disobedience—but pain you haven’t had space to process? Sometimes we don’t run from God—we run because we’re overwhelmed, angry, and afraid of what obedience might cost us. In this episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, we walk through the story of Jonah—and a deeply personal story—to explore what happens when obedience feels heavier than disobedience. When faith collides with pain. When mercy feels unfair. And when distance from God feels safer than staying close. This episode gently reframes resistance, anger, and avoidance—not as spiritual failure, but as signals of emotional overload. Through Jonah’s storm, the belly of the fish, and God’s persistent compassion, we discover a God who doesn’t crush resistance—but creates space for a cry. In this episode, you’ll hear: Why avoidance is often pain in disguise—not rebellion How anger can exist beside faith without disqualifying you Why God sometimes moves us into private, contained spaces to protect us and others How obedience comes after the cry, not before it Why God’s mercy is bigger than our personal story—and how we’re invited back into His greater plan of redemption Key Scriptures: Jonah 1:3 (NLT) Jonah 1:5 (NLT) Jonah 2:1–2 (NLT) Jonah 3:10 (NLT) Jonah 4:1–2 (NLT) Jonah 4:11 (NLT) Episode Takeaway: God’s grace meets you in the middle of resistance—not after you get it right. You are not delayed—you are being held, protected, and recommissioned. Journal Prompt: What emotion am I avoiding because obedience feels too costly right now? Faith-Rooted Step: Today, whisper one honest cry to God—no fixing, no spiritual polish, just truth. He already knows. And He is still near. Spoken Word Segment: Stay with us through the end of the episode for a whispered reminder of who God is when obedience feels costly and hearts feel tired. 💌 Let’s Stay Connected! 23. Mini Healing Series 3 of 3: More than the Titles You Carry
So many women carry titles—some chosen, some inherited, and some taken on in survival. Mother. Caregiver. Helper. Provider. Peacemaker. Strong one. But titles describe what we do—they were never meant to define who we are. In this final episode of our Mini Healing Series, we step into a deeper conversation about identity beyond roles. Together, we explore what it looks like to rediscover who you are when the titles go quiet, how survival can slowly replace identity with function, and why God’s calling on your life was never limited to one season or assignment. This episode gently invites you to loosen your grip on what you’ve been carrying and make room for who God is still forming—without pressure, comparison, or shame. In This Episode, You’ll Hear About: Why titles can quietly replace identity over time How survival teaches women to become what’s needed rather than who they are The difference between identity and assignment Why delayed dreams are not denied dreams What it means to carry God-breathed purpose beyond roles A gentle reminder that healing doesn’t require perfection Scripture References: Jeremiah 29:11 — Identity before assignment Isaiah 43:1 — Called by name, not by function Joel 2:25 — God’s restoration includes purpose and vision Reflection Question: When I remove the titles I’ve carried for years, what part of me is still waiting to be acknowledged? Take your time with this one. There’s no rush. Gentle Invitation: If this episode encouraged you, consider sharing it with someone who might need it too. 22. Mini Healing Series 2 of 3: Raising a New Legacy
✨ Episode Summary What if the healing you’re doing today is quietly shaping your children’s tomorrow? In Part 2 of our Mini Healing Series, Raising a New Legacy, we explore how breaking generational patterns doesn’t require perfection—but intentional, Spirit-led responses. Healing is not something our children simply inherit; it’s something they learn by watching us live it out. Through vulnerable storytelling, biblical truth, and practical legacy-shaping steps, this episode invites you to see your healing journey not as a personal burden—but as holy groundwork for generations to come. You don’t raise healed children. You raise children who learn healing by watching you. 💛 In This Episode, You’ll Learn: Why patterns don’t break with intention alone—but with new responses How your pause, repair, and gentleness teach safety to the next generation Why healing reshapes identity, not just behavior How God redeems even the most painful chapters for generational good What legacy-building looks like in everyday, imperfect moments 📖 Scriptures Referenced: Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) – Guarding the heart as the starting place of change Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (NIV) – Modeling faith in everyday life Proverbs 14:26 (NIV) – God as a secure refuge for our children Psalm 139 – Being known, wanted, and created with intention Matthew 10 & Joshua 1:5 – God’s nearness and faithful presence 🧠 Teaching Points: 1️⃣ Patterns Break at the Point of Response Awareness shows the pattern. 21.Mini Healing Series 1 of 3: Interrupting Inherited Patterns
Have you ever realized you weren’t just tired—but tired of carrying things that were never yours to begin with? This episode is for the woman who didn’t choose the patterns she inherited, but is finally feeling the weight of carrying them. Episode 21 begins a three-part healing mini-series on interrupting inherited patterns. Today is not about fixing, solving, or figuring everything out. It’s about naming what’s been heavy for a long time—and giving yourself permission to tell the truth about the weight you’ve been carrying. Some pain didn’t start with you. But you may be the one brave enough to notice it. ✨ In This Episode, We Explore: Why some pain is inherited, not chosen How weariness is not failure—but an invitation The role of awareness in healing trauma cycles Why crying is the beginning of healing, not the fix How faith, therapy, and community work together in trauma recovery Why healing was never meant to be done alone Through personal storytelling, Scripture, psychology, and gentle reflection, Norma walks you through what it looks like to acknowledge inherited pain with compassion—without shame. 📖 Scriptures Shared: Lamentations 5:7 “Our ancestors sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment.” Jeremiah 31:25 (NIV) “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” Psalm 6:8–9 (NIV) “The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.” Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 (NIV) “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Proverbs 15:22 “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” 🧠 Faith + Psychology Insight: This episode gently names generational trauma as a reality—not a verdict. As trauma expert Gabor Maté explains, trauma isn’t just about what happened—it’s about what happened inside us as a result. Awareness allows us to observe patterns without shame, creating space for compassion, understanding, and change. And as researcher and author Brené Brown reminds us: “We don’t heal in isolation. We heal in community.” Scripture and science agree: connection softens pain, and isolation intensifies it. ✍️ Journal Prompt: What have I been carrying simply because no one before me laid it down? Where do I feel this weight most—in my body, my emotions, or my thoughts? 🌿 Faith-Rooted Step: Find a quiet moment and name—out loud or on paper—one inherited pattern or burden you’ve been carrying that didn’t begin with you. Without fixing it or explaining it, offer it to God in prayer. You can simply say: “Lord, this is heavy, and I don’t want to carry it alone anymore.” 🎧 Coming Next: Next week, we take the next gentle step—how to raise a new legacy without carrying shame or fear. This is not a microwave miracle. It’s more like a slow cooker situation— with grace, patience… and maybe snacks. 💛 Let’s Stay Connected: I’d love to keep walking this healing journey with you beyond the podcast. 20. The Thief called Insecurity- and The God Who Restores
What if the insecurity you’ve been fighting your whole life was never the truth about you? What if God has been restoring your identity all along—calling you back to who you’ve always been? Insecurity doesn’t always arrive loudly. Sometimes it slips in quietly—through childhood wounds, unmet expectations, and words spoken over us that were never meant to define us. In this tender yet transformational episode, Norma shares her personal story of how insecurity learned her name, how it distorted her identity, and how God lovingly restored what was stolen. Together, we expose insecurity as a thief—and meet the God who restores identity, truth, and belonging. This episode is an invitation to rest, reflect, and remember who God created you to be. So grab a warm drink, pull up a cozy chair, and come on in—you’re safe here. ✨ In This Episode, You’ll Learn: How insecurity steals identity by rewriting your name Why healing insecurity is about restoration, not confidence How God restores identity by calling you back to Himself What it looks like to walk daily in restored identity How to respond when insecurity tries to “come courting” again 📖 Scripture Highlight Isaiah 43:1 (ESV) “But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” 💭 Reflection & Journal Prompt Where did insecurity first learn your name, and what truth is God restoring about who you are? 🙏 Faith-Rooted Step “I am learning to see myself through the mirror God made, not the one insecurity and wounds created.” 💌 Listener Love A heartfelt thank-you to Kodie Mooney for her encouragement and for being part of this growing community of healing and hope. 💌 Let’s Stay Connected! This episode is a bold, faith-filled reminder that dreams don’t move until we do. Writing the vision is the first step… but living the vision requires systems, consistency, and God-partnership. 15. 3 Steps to Release Control for Christian Moms
Episode Summary Ever feel like if you don’t hold everything together, everything will fall apart? Between school events, work deadlines, Christmas chaos, and the “Where’s the tape?!” moments… sometimes even the nativity donkey looks more relaxed than we do. In today’s episode, Norma shares 3 faith-rooted steps to help Christian moms release control, calm anxiety, and step into God’s peace. Through powerful scripture, relatable stories, and a heartfelt listener message, you’ll learn why control often comes from fear—and how to let God lift what was never yours to carry. This episode will help you breathe deeper, rest easier, and finally exhale. 💛 Listener Highlight This week’s episode opens with a powerful text from Sabrina, shared on October 23rd, after listening to Episode 7. 14. How to Release Trauma You Can't Talk About
💔 Have You Ever Wondered… Why certain memories still make your heart race—no matter how much time has passed? Why silence sometimes feels safer than speaking the truth? How God can heal what you can’t even put into words? If those questions stir something inside you, this episode is for you. Some wounds live in silence—buried under years of “I’m fine.” But God sees every tear you’ve hidden and hears every prayer you never prayed aloud. In this episode, Norma opens her heart to share the kind of trauma that silence tried to hold hostage—and how God’s gentle love began to restore what shame had buried. Together, we’ll discover that healing doesn’t always require words. Sometimes, it begins with a whisper, a sigh, or a single invitation to let God in. 🕊️ Key Takeaways Acknowledgment opens the door to healing. Denial delays healing, but honesty invites God in. Release doesn’t always require words. The Holy Spirit interprets your tears when language fails. Surrender brings rest. Suppression drains your soul, but surrender restores it. Connection brings comfort. God often delivers healing through human hands. Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Healing and Trauma 01:56 The Weight of Unhealed Trauma 06:26 Acknowledgment as the First Step to Healing 09:15 The Power of Silence and Surrender 11:30 The Importance of Community in Healing 12:44 Unscripted Insights on Relationships and Healing 15:38 Practical Steps for Acknowledgment and Surrender 17:33 Closing Reflections and Encouragement 💭 Reflection Healing isn’t about explaining every detail—it’s about allowing God to step into the silence. 13. When Anxiety Steals Your Words-But Not God's Presence
Have you ever tried to pray but couldn’t find the words? Your heart’s racing, your mind’s spinning, and all you can whisper is “God, please…” In this gentle, faith-filled conversation, Norma reminds us that when anxiety silences our prayers, God still hears the cry of our hearts. Through raw storytelling and powerful teaching, she shares how friendship with God transforms anxious silence into sacred connection. You’ll discover that your quiet moments aren’t evidence of God’s absence—they’re invitations to rest in His nearness. 🔑 Key Takeaways God’s Presence Isn’t Limited by Your Panic — Anxiety may silence your words, but it can’t silence His presence (Psalm 139:7-8). Prayer Is Presence, Not Performance — God isn’t grading your prayers; He’s holding space for your honesty (Romans 8:26). Turn Worry into Worship — When fear gets loud, respond with gratitude and watch peace return (Philippians 4:6-7). Practice Peace Daily — Peace is cultivated through consistent trust, not the absence of chaos (Isaiah 26:3). Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Prayer and Anxiety 02:41 The Power of God's Presence 05:37 Understanding Prayer as Presence 08:32 Transforming Worry into Worship 11:13 Practicing Peace Daily 13:57 Recap and Reflection 💭 Reflection Moment When anxiety tries to silence your prayer, remember: you are never disqualified from God’s presence. Your panic doesn’t push Him away—it draws Him closer. Let your worry become worship, your silence become stillness, and your stillness become sacred. ✍️ Journal Prompt Think of a moment when you couldn’t find the words to pray. What did your heart want to say to God in that silence—and how might He have been responding through peace instead of words? 🌿 Faith-Rooted Step Practice a “One-Line Prayer” this week. When anxiety rises, center your soul with short truths like: “God, You are here.” “Peace, be still.” “I trust You, even now.” Small prayers anchor big emotions. 📣 Listener Challenge + CTA Share this episode with a friend who needs the reminder that anxiety doesn’t silence prayer—it just gives God another invitation to show up.
