“Who you are is actually a declaration.” Denise is someone with a Big Idea. She lived for years with this idea locked away and unexpressed, until she couldn’t take it any more. “Alt Twitter” has taken the internet by storm in the last few months in the wake of Trump administrations crackdown on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA’s) sharing of scientific data regarding climate change. Mysterious scientists, environmentalists, and citizens concerned with honesty and transparency have acted in response by creating a wave of “Alt” twitter accounts for organizations, including NSF, EPA, National Parks, State Parks, and many more science based government agencies demanding freedom of scientific information to the public. Today we hear from Adrien (a pseudonym) from Alt CA State Parks. Adrien represents only one of the many Alt Twitter Accounts, and though there is still concern over revealing her identity, her willingness to share her perspective puts a voice behind the tweets that have been causing such a stir in the government, and our nation. I was graciously let into 4 farms over the course of these interviews. Some of these farms are already in the process of legalization, some aren’t. To see the behind the scenes of these operations was enlightening, and I got the sense that I was seeing a time capsule of what will soon be a relic to us, spoken and taught in the history books of the Unites States of America: The ending of the Prohibition Era of Marijuana. As more farms bring their operations above ground, Northern California is in an upheaval to produce as much as possible. Grow more, trim more, sell MORE. Commonly referred to as “trimmigrants”, trimmers come from all over the world to Northern California for a short period of time to make some quick cash. They spend months on back-woods farms to process the marijuana after it’s been harvested, and manicure it from the raw plant into the smokeable bud. Jenna has been doing this for almost a decade, working from farm to farm, off the grid. The scope of her experiences make for an interesting journey. From run-in’s with the police, 16 hour work days, to having her life threatened, you’ll not only get a good feel for what the lifestyle of a trimmigrant is like, but really enjoy the telling of it as well.  

On the cusp of legalization, an anonymous female marijuana grower shares a rare behind-the-scenes view into her life. At the very end of her 9-month-long season, we talk about weed, what it’s like to live in the woods, shrouded in secrecy, in the heart of the emerald triangle: Humboldt county. Humboldt is world famous for growing the most incredible marijuana available on the planet. Listen in to the typical day of the illegal grower, what the culture and people are like that thrive in the pot scene, the necessary secrecy required, the isolation, and the lifestyle that goes along with this multi-billion dollar underground industry.

Many of us begin something new by feeling the need to prove ourselves. Logan Sullivan shares how he overcame the Imposter Syndrome in his career with an Alter Ego that knew what it took to do his job, even though he felt severely under-qualified when he began. Suddenly, years later, he looks back and realizes that he now IS the person he was pretending to be, all this time! Logan has worked closely with the United Nations as an advocate, and traveled for relief work to over 55 countries for International Medical Corp, Handicap International, Action Against Hunger, and Oxfam (Oxford Committee for Famine Relief).  

Jordan and I met at Burning Man and have known each other for several years. We rather quickly get around to the surprising normalcy of being inside a sex dungeon camp, internal conflicts of belonging, how he got his name as “Momentum”, and his walk across the country to win back an ex-girlfriend, only to find himself in the process.  

All of us want love. For some, early on in our lives the channels of love and approval got fused together. I learned early on that I was “bad” and “a sinner”. So if I just changed what I wanted to do, how I expressed myself, and who I was, THEN I could get love. Many of us seek affirmation, approval, and acceptance as a substitute for love. We can even go as far as to create an inauthentic alter ego, which we think will please another, to get love. How does that happen, and what can we do about it?

He’s been published in Magic Magazine, Wired Magazine, has developed magic videos for EllenTube and DreamworksTV. This year on April Fools Day, Joshua Logan and Doug Hofkins opened up Boardwalk Magic, California's newest magic shop on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. He talks about creating an Alter Ego for stage that is unstoppable, and even shares the world premiere description of his legendary “Freak Out” trick.  

Artemis Simon is back with a special Q&A episode! We received a lot of questions from YOU after her episode 26: “Sex Work with Ms. Monday Jones”. I recommend listening to that one first so this has context. We talk about everything from the importance of aftercare in BDSM play, to her hard limits and boundaries. Artemis changed my view of sex workers. In her last episode she told us about how sex work doesn’t necessarily mean intercourse, and can sometimes even be about healing, mentorship, education and growth.  

Can we decide to get up one day, and change the way we’re living, who we are, and have a completely different lifestyle? Chase did. He went from being a “normal person”,  fitting in the system, wanting to commit suicide, to making a decision: “I don’t want to be this way”. So he started with a bucket list of all the things he wanted to do before he died, and then??… he became that person who would do all of those things, and left his old life behind.  

Today’s guest changed my view on sex workers. I wasn’t aware of my stigma toward sex work until I had this opportunity to talk with Artemis Simon. Sex work, I learned, is not ALL about primal, disconnected, base needs. Sometimes its about healing, mentorship, education, growth, and vulnerability. Artemis has offered me a new view: Sex worker as mentor. She works in various forms of Miss Monday Jones to offer guidance and healing, and has helped clients lose weight, quit smoking, and even contribute more to the balance of their home life.

OnyX is a persona, an alter ego he's constructed to help him find balance in a polarized world. It has since helped him cope with his military experiences, and even raising children. Liat Wexler is a trans man, and Glitter Butch!!! Liat's personal preference is to identify with the pronouns “them, they, and theirs”. To be clear, Liat’s identity as a trans man isn’t their alter ego, it is who they are. But many trans people have had the experience of feeling the need to adopt an alter ego within the context of “societal norms”, and not be the full expression of who they truly are in certain situations. Often these reasons range from ease within the work place, to basic safety concerns. Liat and I talk about these issues, along with what their journey and experience has been with testosterone therapy, body transformation, educating the public, and expression. So much info!! Miss Anne lives in Victorian times, she wears petticoats, decency skirts, and uses the language of the fan. In modern times, Miss Anne is Anne Osborn; a Historic Reenactress and Costumer. Anne has many alter egos that span from 5k years ago to the present, but the one we focus on is from the Victorian Era. She illuminates subjects from marginalia (historic dirty drawings) to pubic wigs… basically we spend way too much time talking about underwear and the historical context of private parts.
