Dear Brambling Podcast
by Luc Benoit
This is a podcast dedicated to my Bramblings, to the next generation of people growing up in the world and to those who might be looking for some guidance. What to expect? Well this podcast is an auto-biographical, interview style podcast where I share my story and I give space for people I trust to share their own. I also post spoken word pieces that I wrote. I am a former competitive Irish dancer, singer, storyteller and support worker. Vtubing and The Artistry of Hollow Knight with Hostess Misaki
I'm back! All procrastinate-y and imperfect as ever!Today I talk with my good friend Hostess Misaki about what it's like to be a Vtuber on twitch and we talk about a game she played on her stream called Hollow Knight! Obvious spoilers for Hollow Knight in the Podcast, but if you don't care about that or already know the story of Hollow Knight, then great! Come along for this cozy conversation where we talk nerdy, but also from the heart!HostessMisaki:https://www.twitch.tv/hostessmisakiThe Game Ghosts:https://www.youtube.com/@TheGameGhostsOfficialLuc's Socials:https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrexhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkR-ub1FB32Pkq_2G7ziLRgCedar and Sound:https://www.instagram.com/cedarpictureandsound/Grezure Music:https://www.instagram.com/grezuremusic/ Hosted on Acast. How to Make More Meaningful Connections with Local Bus Driver Nick
In this episode, I talk with my friend Nick, a local bus driver here in the city, and together we talk about how people can make more meaningful connections. We get to learn a bit more about Nick and his upbringing. We also talk a little bit about what it means to have neutral jing (an Avatar the Last Airbender term) and it's important to also take care of ourselves. This is a fun mostly light-hearted conversation, that's also very informative. I hope you enjoy it as much as I had being in it, editing it and listening back to it!Patreon!https://patreon.com/DearBramblingPodcast?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLinkNick's Instagram:https://instagram.com/niekelaos/Everybody's Got A Story by Amanda Marshall:https://open.spotify.com/track/4mppx9y2f6kZP8sb2NHPdDPodcast with Hunter:https://open.spotify.com/episode/6W0Ob4Ogtjrv0anUMXZwO4?si=7DkUELWeT82YkLt3YdJgGAThe Game Ghosts:https://www.youtube.com/@TheGameGhostsOfficialLuc's Socials:https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrexhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkR-ub1FB32Pkq_2G7ziLRgCedar and Sound:https://www.instagram.com/cedarpictureandsound/Grezure Music:https://www.instagram.com/grezuremusic/HostessMisaki:https://www.twitch.tv/hostessmisaki Hosted on Acast. A Dancer's Perspective on Joy Part 1 with Rachel Helten
In this episode, I talk with my cousin Rachel Helten! Rachel is a dance artist, choreographer, teacher, healing facilitator and mentor. In part 1 of this conversation, Rachel shares her story with us, we talk about our own experiences in dance and what gets in the way of us experiencing joy. In this conversation, Rachel and I don't shy away from the fact that joy and pain are 2 feelings that come hand in hand, and so we do talk about how dance has also hurt us both in some way. This conversation is at the same time funny, gentle and kind. I hope you come to understand why Rachel is one of my favourite people with this podcast!Patreon!https://patreon.com/DearBramblingPodcast?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLinkRachel's Socials: www.rachelhelten.comhttps://www.instagram.com/rachelhelten/Links to podcasts with Sarah Helten (Rachel's sister):Part 1: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0OcL5krcG4DigWml3PtXRp?si=e3dc7533ec4f4f13Part 2: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2WMv9VXSMVynKmVoIvbQb3?si=zfWnAo9hSICbNByfg1xCsQ Luc's Socials:https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrexhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkR-ub1FB32Pkq_2G7ziLRgCedar and Sound:https://www.instagram.com/cedarpictureandsound/Grezure Music:https://www.instagram.com/grezuremusic/HostessMisaki:https://www.twitch.tv/hostessmisaki Hosted on Acast. Competitive Irish Dancer Culture with Oona from Wmh_x_0 | My Irish Dance Story Part 4
Hello everyone!Welcome to part 4 of My Irish Dance Story! Thank you so much for listening. Today I have a special guest, Oona from the Instagram page @wmh_x_0!In this episode, Oona and I talk about our experiences in the competitive Irish dance world. We talk about a whole bunch of different topics, such as grief, self-worth and shame. We also try to focus our conversation into thinking about words and phrases that the competitive scene choose to build their culture off of and we talk about how some of those words don't fit our lived experiences. This conversation will be a two-parter, so tune in next week for the second half of our conversation! This was a really healing conversation for me, and I wanted to extend a wholehearted thank you to Oona for coming onto the podcast and chatting with me. It's been amazing knowing that I'm not alone in my weird, specific pain. In this episode, I talk with three time Jesse award winning theatre, television and film actor and gay rights activist, Allan Morgan. Allan makes his podcast debut with Dear Brambling Podcast and I'm so honoured to have him! In this conversation, Allan tells us a bit about his story growing up back in Ontario. Allan also holds space for my grief while I share with him my recent traumatic story. He also delves into one of his most memorable relationships he had, the grief of loosing him the same year I was born. More importantly, however Allan and I discuss what it means to belong to yourself. After listening back to this conversation, I was trying to find a word that encapsulates our conversation, and the only word I could come up with is: beautiful.Be warned, this conversation will have some colourful, mature language and will be talking about some traumatic things. Spring Update 2024
I'm back! Thank you everyone for your patience! I needed some time to heal and process, stockpile some interviews, and celebrate the arrival of Brambling number two!I'm so excited to bring you some more content! I think it's my best work yet. (Hopefully) I've come to learn that this podcast has also become a hypothesis-in-action, where I'm testing the theory that connection and compassion can be one of the best cures for PTSD. I've decided to keep leaning into my trauma and reach for every hand that reaches out. Going forward, please listen to your own limits and boundaries if something gets too intense, but I do hope you continue to listen as I feel like there will be some gold hidden in these upcoming episodes! Also! I now have a Patreon! I'm still brainstorming ideas for what kind of content I can provide on this platform; however, I would like to find a way to generate some income for the podcast so I can continue to deliver you some content. 100% of the proceeds will be going right back into the podcast, so if you'd like to donate, have some extra money to spare and help make my dreams come true, please use the link below!I'm excited to keep this podcast going and I'll see you next week for the next episode! Thanks everyone!LucLuc's Socials : https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrexhttps://patreon.com/DearBramblingPodcast?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink Hosted on Acast. Body Dysmorphia With Alexandra Fuller | My Irish Dance Story Part 3
In this episode, I talk with Alexandra Fuller. She is a former competitive Irish dancer, and now licensed counsellor. Typically, I've made the "My Irish Dance Story" as a solo series, but this topic had far too much pain around it for me to feel brave enough to go at it alone. So I reached out. After reading Alexandra's blog post called "The Skin I'm In", I knew that she was just the right person to talk to, someone who understands Irish dance and who understands feeling at war with your body. Thank you Alexandra for compassionately holding my hand while I tell my story.Previous Episodes:Part 1: https://open.spotify.com/episode/04glNNu8U3PpRMa51lpi7c?si=29b8c0c591684071Part 2: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6KapP9m1yRkKabZG1heEFf?si=83984860d30a49feTed Lasso Scene:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQUOOGxRuQYAlexandra's Socials:https://www.instagram.com/alexandrajfuller/https://www.thehumanspace.co/counsellingSign up for Alexandra's blog, The Middle:https://alexandrafuller.substack.com/Luc's Socials:https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrexCedar and Sound:https://www.instagram.com/cedarpictureandsound/Grezure Music:https://www.instagram.com/grezuremusic/HostessMisaki:https://www.twitch.tv/hostessmisaki Hosted on Acast. The King Archetype with Scott Harris
In this episode, Scott and I talk about the King Archetype.I use some quotes from the show Dragon Prince to help us tap into our Kings, and naturally the topic of healthy masculinity came up. In essence, Scott and I discuss that a healthy man is not someone who has preset ideas and expectations to what a "man" should be. A healthy man is someone who sees them self as a man, and strives to be a better person everyday. This episode marks the end of the long Saga of the archetypes with Scott, and I'm feeling a mixture of grief and relief. Funny how these two emotions tend to have such a close relationship. I'm so grateful to have had Scott on the show for 7 episodes in a row (I know I said 8, but towards the end, I just wanted them done). I hope that these episodes have been helpful to those who have listened.Scott's Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/itsscottharris/Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/Twitch : https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrex Hosted on Acast. The Lover Archetype with Scott Harris Part 2
In this episode, Scott and I talk about the shadows of the Lover Archetype. In this conversation, we talk about a video clip that Scott saw where famous basketball player, Shaq, talked about how he "doesn't have time for [his] emotions". Now, just to be clear, I hope that it doesn't sound like we're harping on him. It was just a poignant clip that Shaq so happened to say in a video that illustrated a point of view that Scott and I have noticed a lot among men, where they are not expressing their Lover in their fullest. I'm sure that Shaq is a man with range and I agree that it's not entirely fair to judge him only on one clip. Scott and I also talk about the addicted lover shadow and how alcoholism is such a wide spread accepted form of addiction.I found this part of the conversation to be fascinating and I hope you enjoy!Scott's Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/itsscottharris/Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/Twitch : https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrex Hosted on Acast. The Lover Archetype with Scott Harris Part 1
In this episode of the 7 week Archetypal journey with Scott Harris, Scott and I talk about the Lover archetype. In this conversation, we let the lover archetypal energy take over and we talk about what's been on our hearts and mind. Towards the end, however, Scott sits in while I do a Momento Mori exercise, reading goodbye letters, as if I knew I was going to die soon. In this I get very vulnerable and I say somethings that I feel as though if I didn't say them, I'd regret it. In this episode, Scott and I start to dive into the Warrior Archetype. Next week, Scott and I will be talking more about the different shadows of the Warrior, so stay tuned =)Scott's Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/itsscottharris/Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/Twitch : https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrex Hosted on Acast. Learning Your Own Way with Sam Ellington
In this episode, I talk with my roommate Sam Ellington. Sam shares their story about how our current Education system failed them to some degree and how forging their own way to learning was more impactful than any classroom did. Like I say a the beginning of the episode, this conversation reminds me of a Ted Talk I saw featuring Inclusion researcher Shelley Moore. I Hate Awards Ceremonies | My Irish Dance Story (Solo series) Part 1
In this episode, I dive into my first solo series unpacking my story as a former competitive Irish dancer. In this episode, I tell you about how I got so attached to Irish dance, some of my harmful belief systems, why I started to unpack my Irish dance traumas, and why the awards ceremonies at major competitions were so rough on me. Like I say at the beginning of the podcast, I'm telling my story to help heal myself. To give language and to validate any emotions or experiences that someone may go through when in a highly competitive sport, like Irish dance. I'm leading with connection, compassion and bravery when telling my story. I steer away from names, and I try to focus on my experience. My goal to make an episode every week for the next 3 to 4 weeks breaking down specific emotional experiences I went through, however, because a solo series does take a lot of work, I may not be able to get it all done in time. There may be a few weeks where I throw in a meaningful conversation instead. My Hooded Friend Named Grief
After my Grandma passed away in April of 2022, I experienced grief on a whole new level. This poem was inspired and driven my the wise words of my counsellor who told me "to give [my]self permission to surrender" to the grief. There was so much pain that I leaned into, but I'm actually so grateful that I did.Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/Twitch : https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrexMusic and vocal lessons : https://www.sonamusic.ca/ Hosted on Acast. I wrote this poem during the 2020 pandemic. Reflecting upon all the pain and suffering that happened during that time, and how so many people were so angry. Incredulously, I asked myself "Why don't people want to be kinder to each other?"Background music is: https://open.spotify.com/track/4Q7ZTcOemrVx5ex3JHVPvn?si=d686e85144714301Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/lucatronasaurus_rex/Twitch : https://www.twitch.tv/lucatronasaurusrexMusic and vocal lessons : https://www.sonamusic.ca/ Hosted on Acast.
