Episode 162: Whispers in Wyoming - Plains Hotel and St. Marks Episcopal Church
Cheyenne is a city on the high plains of Wyoming, where Old West history still shapes its daily life. The city is full of quiet streets, experiences endless wind and according to many who live there, something else lingers beneath the surface. Downtown Cheyenne is said to be full of locations tied to unexplained stories. And at the center of it all stands the historic Plains Hotel. Built in 1911, the five-story hotel once hosted figures like Ernest Hemingway, Charles Lindbergh, and even the first female governor in U.S. history. But over time, its reputation changed. Guests report hearing crying from empty rooms. A woman in a blue dress wandering the halls. The scent of cigar smoke with no source. A room tied to mysterious 911 calls. But the Plains Hotel isn’t the only place said to be haunted. Just blocks away sits St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the oldest church in Wyoming. Behind its stone walls is a story is centuries old story of two immigrant stonemasons who vanished during construction and one may have been sealed inside the tower walls. Sounds of hammering are heard inside the stone. Bells ring on their own. And years later, a deathbed confession may have revealed what was hidden there all along. Cheyenne is one of Wyoming’s most haunted cities, full of history, tragedy, and ghost stories through hotel hallways and inside church walls. Episode 161: Pennsylvania Collar Bomber - Brian Wells - Part 2
There are some crimes that don’t just make headlines, they stop people in their tracks. Crimes so strange, so elaborate, that even seasoned investigators struggle to explain them. And the case I’m covering this week is one of those stories. It begins on an ordinary afternoon in Erie, Pennsylvania but nothing about what happened next was ordinary. A pizza delivery driver walks into a bank with something locked around his neck, something he says is an explosive device. He hands over a set of instructions that read more like a scavenger hunt than a robbery note. And within minutes, the entire city is thrown into chaos. What followed was a chain of events unlike anything investigators had seen before: a device built with unsettling precision, clues scattered across town, and a timeline that never should have been possible to complete. And the deeper authorities dug, the stranger the story became leading them from an isolated radio tower, to a blue minivan that vanished, to a second death just days later. This case raises questions that still divide people today. Was the man at the center of it a victim or something else entirely? Who built the device? And why did so many clues seem designed to mislead? In this episode, we’re going back to the beginning to the moment the first call came in and following the investigation exactly as it unfolded. Because to understand what happened in Erie, you have to see every piece of the puzzle. And trust me the picture it forms is far more complicated than it first appears.

Episode 159: The Isdal Woman
Bergen, Norway 1970. A woman is found dead in an isolated Norwegian valley. No name. Every clothing label removed. A few days after, two suitcases are discovered at a nearby railway station, filled with wigs, multiple currencies, and a notebook filled with coded messages. When the codes were cracked, it proved she had checked into hotels under at least 8 different aliases. Reports from witnesses at these hotels revealed the woman had changed her appearance constantly. She also may have been seen near sensitive military sites during the height of the Cold War. Then, the autopsy results: dozens of sleeping pills in her stomach, carbon monoxide in her lungs, and evidence she was alive during the fire that killed her. Authorities ruled it a suicide. But the details never fully supported this theory. Years later, witnesses came forward, placing her with unknown men in her final days. And decades after her death, forensic testing revealed she was likely born in Germany and spent part of her childhood in Paris. But still, 56 years later, there is no identity. No clear answers. Who was the Isdal Woman? And how did she meet her fate? Sources: “Spy, Murder Victim, Or Something Else? Episode 158: The Hello Kitty Murder
Hong Kong is known as one of the world’s leading financial hubs, home to immense wealth, towering skylines, and global influence. But beneath that image of prosperity lies a different reality. For many, survival is a daily struggle, shaped by deep income inequality and limited opportunity. Fahn Man-yee was one of those people. Abandoned as an infant and raised in an orphanage, she was forced to navigate the world on her own by the age of 15. Her life was marked by hardship: homelessness, addiction, and instability. But by 1999, she was trying to turn things around. She had a newborn son, and she was determined to build a safer, more stable life for him. She worked where she could, doing what she could to survive. But desperation can lead to difficult choices. After stealing a wallet from a client, Fahn found herself entangled with someone far more dangerous than she may have realized, a man connected to organized crime. He demanded not only the return of what was taken, but a much larger sum she simply didn’t have. Fahn returned the wallet. She tried to make things right. But she wasn’t given time. What happened next would shock Hong Kong and leave a lasting mark on the city’s history. A case so disturbing that it became known around the world as the Hello Kitty murder. This story reminds us that evil is everywhere. And sometimes, the most unsettling stories are not just about violence but about vulnerability, power, and the consequences of being forgotten.

Episode 157: Who is "Jennifer Fairgate"?
In Oslo, Norway. 1995. A woman checked into the city’s most prestigious hotel, the Oslo Plaza Hotel, under the name Jennifer Fairgate. No ID. No credit card. Even the labels on her clothes were removed. She’s dressed in all black with heels on. There was a powerful handgun in her grip held in a way that doesn’t make sense. And somehow NO ONE knows who she is. The name she gave? Fake. The address? Fake. Fingerprints? No matches, even through Interpol. But that’s not all. She had 34 rounds of ammunition. A dive watch used by European special forces. And a 20-hour gap where she vanished completely before returning to her room at the hotel. Had she truly been alone? From possible espionage to a staged crime scene to one of Norway’s most haunting unexplained cases. Who was the woman in Room 2805? Episode 156: The Tallman Haunting
Imagine your life is completely normal. You and your spouse are raising three kids in the quiet suburbs of Horicon, Wisconsin. A ranch-style home, an attached garage, nothing out of the ordinary. Safe. Comfortable. Then one day, you bring home a secondhand bunk bed for your daughters. They love it. You got a great deal. It feels like a win. But not long after it enters your home something changes. At first, it’s subtle. Your young son is suddenly too afraid to sleep alone. Then your daughter says she’s seen something, an evil witch, glowing orange, inside the house. And then, it spreads. Clocks start moving on their own. You feel watched even when you’re alone. Shadow figures. Disembodied voices. And glowing red eyes staring from the dark. For nine months, you try to explain it away. You try to stay. To make it work. Until one night you can’t anymore. You grab your children, whatever you can carry and you run. And you never come back. This is the story of the Tallman family. In 1987, they fled their home in the middle of the night terrified of something they believed followed a simple piece of furniture, a bunk bed. Thrown away. Gone. Its origins unknown and its whereabouts still a mystery. Because sometimes evil doesn’t need an invitation. Sometimes it comes home with you. Episode 155: Legend or Hoax? The Faces of Belmez
What if the floor you were standing on began to stare back at you? Deep in Southern Spain lies a small town that is seemingly unremarkable. But it is home to the most enduring unexplained cases in Spain’s history. Back in 1971, a woman named Maria was casually doing house chores in her home in Belmez when she noticed a strange pattern forming in the concrete floor. The stain over time began to form, becoming more distinct, forming a human face. Despite cleaning attempts and even removal of the section of floor, the face kept appearing. But not just one, many. Many faces began to form, with expressions of anguish, fear and even content, young and old, men and women. News spread like wildfire through the small town and even throughout the whole country. Travelers came from all over to glance at these faces, believers, scientists, journalists and skeptics alike. Theories were presented but none seem to fully embrace the phenomenon. So what really happened in that house? Illusion, manipulation, or something we still can’t explain? Episode 154: Truck Stop Killer - Robert Rhoades
They called him the “Truck Stop Killer” but for years, no one even knew his name. In the late 1970s and 80s, young men and women began disappearing along America’s highways, hitchhikers, runaways, women just trying to get from one place to another. Their last known locations? Truck stops. Rest areas. The in-between places most people pass through without a second thought. Behind the wheel of an ordinary semi-truck, Robert Ben Rhoades blended in perfectly. He was a long-haul trucker, someone no one would look at twice. But inside his cab, investigators would later uncover something horrifying: a custom-built torture chamber designed to imprison his victims. For years, he traveled across state lines, leaving behind a trail of violence that was difficult for authorities to connect. Different jurisdictions. Different victims. No clear pattern, until one routine traffic stop in 1990 changed everything. What police found that day would expose a nightmare hiding in plain sight. How did he get away with it for so long? How many victims were there, really? And what kind of person builds something like that… and lives a normal life in between? This story reminds us that evil is everywhere, and sometimes the most dangerous person you’ll ever cross paths with might already have passed you on the highway. Episode 153: Deadly Quest for Love - Raymond James Merrill
In March of 2006, 55-year-old musician Raymond James Merrill traveled to Brazil for the third time in five months. He told friends he was in love and was going to propose to the love of his life but he was never seen again. Ray’s online romance with a Brazilian woman named Regina Filomena Rachid quickly escalated into something deeper. Within weeks, Ray was sending her money. Tens of thousands of dollars disappearing from Ray’s accounts. Still hopeful, Ray kept returning to visit this woman in Sao Paulo. Then silence. No calls. No emails. As investigators began to dig, they uncovered thousands of dollars gone from his accounts. A suspicious email claiming Ray was “starting a new life.” And the last person to see him alive refusing to talk. Then, finally, after months of silence, a break came in the case. What truly happened to Ray Merrill in São Paulo? And how did his quest for love turn into an international murder case that took 15 years to bring to justice? Episode 151: Captain William J. Costello and The Smiling Widow
What would you do in the face of murder charges? Most people would be frantic, pleading their innocence, and very anxious of what is to come. But that was not the case for Jessie Costello in 1933. That February, she found her husband, Captain William J. Costello, dead on the floor of their home in Peabody, MA. At the request of close friends, an autopsy was performed which found poison, despite the body having already been embalmed. It was confirmed the poison had been sold to Mrs. Costello the night before the captain’s death, but Mrs. Costello claimed she had been using it simply as a cleaning agent. With the evidence piling up, Jessie Costello was charged with the murder of her husband. As the trial began, the media and community became obsessed with this woman. Smiling, calm, entrancing all those around her. She would receive hundreds of love letters daily from men all over the country, pose for photos as she entered the courtroom and would smile all throughout the court proceedings. But would her charm be enough to convince the jury of all men of her innocence? Episode 150: Urban Legend - Black Eyed Children
Ever get that feeling like someone’s watching you but when you look, there’s nothing there? Or worse someone is there. Picture this: it’s late at night. Maybe you’re home alone, maybe you’re just starting to wind down and then there’s a knock at your door. You’re not expecting anyone. You hesitate but you check anyway. Standing outside are two children. They look… off. Pale. Quiet. Almost too calm. They speak politely, like everything is totally normal. They just want to come inside. They need to come inside. And then you notice their eyes. Completely black. No whites. No pupils. Just darkness. These are the Black-Eyed Children, one of the internet’s most chilling urban legends. A story that feels like it came straight out of a creepy pasta forum and to be fair, it kind of did. But here’s where it gets weird: reports of these encounters go all the way back to 1996, long before the legend really took off online. And the stories? They’re disturbingly consistent. The same phrases. The same behaviors. The same overwhelming sense of dread people say they feel the moment they realize something isn’t right. So what are they? Are they just a product of viral storytelling and internet folklore? Something our brains have collectively built and reinforced over time? Or are these encounters pointing to something genuinely unexplained? So lock your doors, check your windows and if you hear a knock late at night just remember: they have to be invited in. Episode 149: The Devil's Visit at Loftus Hall
In one of the sunniest counties in Ireland stands a mansion, known for being haunted but it all began with a simple game of cards. On the southeastern coast of Ireland, in County Wexford, Loftus Hall stands on the Hook Head peninsula overlooking the sea. It is often described as one of the most haunted houses in the world. The land itself has 800 years of history and stories, beginning with the Norman invasion in the 1100s. Over centuries the property changed hands, eventually becoming Loftus Hall. But the story most people remember began in 1765. During a violent storm, a stranger arrived at the door of Loftus Hall seeking shelter. Welcomed inside by the Tottenham family who currently owned the estate and the stranger stayed for several nights. One evening during a game of cards, Anne Tottenham dropped a card and bent to pick it up. When she looked under the table she exclaimed the stranger was not human. Unfortunately, Anne never recovered from this incident. Seemingly going insane, she was locked away for the remainder of her life. Since then unexplained occurrences have been reported inside Loftus Hall. Disembodied voices, shadow figures, cold spots, and an overwhelming feeling of being watched. Some fully believe Anne never truly left the house. Episode 148: Murder in the Montana Wilderness - Dustin Kjersem
In October of 2024, 35-year-old Dustin Kjersem set up a tent at a remote campsite near Big Sky, Montana. He was planning a quiet weekend in the mountains and was supposed to pick up his girlfriend the next day so they could spend a few days camping together. But that pickup never happened, and no one could reach him. At first, the silence didn’t seem completely unusual. The campsite he had chosen was deep in the backcountry, in an area with little to no cell service. But as more time passed, the concern started to grow. So, on October 12th, his girlfriend and a friend drove out to try and find the campsite themselves. What they discovered was a scene was so violent that investigators initially believed Dustin had been attacked by a grizzly bear, and in that part of southwestern Montana, that explanation didn’t seem impossible. But as investigators began looking closer, something didn’t add up. There were no bear tracks, no signs of wildlife, nothing that suggested an animal had been there at all. And when the truth began to come out, it revealed something far more disturbing than anyone had expected: a peaceful campsite in the mountains, a friendly man who had welcomed a stranger, and a crime so brutal that it was believed only an animal could have done it. This story reminds us that evil is everywhere, and that in the wilderness, animals aren’t the only thing you have to watch out for. Episode 147: The Murder of Michael McMorrow by the Baby-Faced Butchers
In 1997, 44-year-old realtor Michael “Irish” McMorrow was known for his easy laugh and love of Central Park. He was always the life of the party so it came as a shock to all when he was at the center of one of the most shocking crimes New York City has seen. It started when a 15-year-old girl, Daphne Abdela, had been reported missing only to be found moments later washing blood off with her boyfriend, 15-year-old Christopher Vasquez. At first, it sounded like a rollerblading accident. Later that same night, Daphne called officers back saying “There’s a body in the lake in Central Park.” Police went to the location she described and were able to locate the body of Michael McMorrow. But the scene was more gruesome and horrific than they had expected. Evidence gathered at the scene and both teen’s homes connected both of them directly to the murder, blood evidence, a knife and the discovery of McMorrow’s wallet in Daphne’s bedroom. But the case became complicated in court. Both teenagers, who became known as the Baby Faced Butchers, were both sentenced, but it felt far from justice to the McMorrow family. Today, a memorial bench in Central Park’s Strawberry Fields honors “Irish” McMorrow, remembering the man friends say was always laughing in the park he loved.

Episode 146: Decades in the Dark - Carla Walker
Back in the 1970s, the United States was facing the aftereffects of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal. There wasn’t much to do for young teens like there is today so most teens would enjoy cruising in their vehicles with friends down long stretches of roads and stopping by the local Taco Bell to hang out. Carla Walker and her boyfriend Rodney did the same after they left their high schools Valentine’s Day Dance in Fort Worth, Texas on February 16, 1974. As they were making out in the front seat of the vehicle, a man swung the passenger door open and pointed a gun directly in Rodney’s face. After Rodney was knocked unconscious, Carla was kidnapped by the man and never seen again. Her body was found in a culvert a few days later brutally beaten and sexually assaulted. No one knew who could have done something to this sassy, fiery, vibrant teenager. A lot of physical and forensic evidence was collected but the testing at the time was not advanced enough. For 45 long years, Carla’s case remained cold, her parents passing on without knowing what truly happened to their daughter. When cold case detectives reopened the case in 2019, they were finally able to send the forensic evidence for testing and discover who was responsible for taking Carla’s life. Episode 145: Two Disappearances, One Suspect: The Rori Hache and Kandis Fitzpatrick Story
Oshawa, Ontario, a quiet city along the shoreline of Lake Ontario. The kind of place where people know each other. Where neighborhoods feel familiar. Where nothing this horrific is supposed to happen. On the morning of December 29th, 2017, plumbers responded to what they thought was just another clogged pipe inside an apartment on McMillan Drive. What they found instead would unravel one of the most disturbing murder investigations in the Durham Region’s history. Inside that apartment, police would uncover evidence that connected not just one missing young woman but two. Who disappeared nearly a decade apart. Rori Hache was 18 years old when she disappeared in 2017. Kandis Fitzpatrick was just 19 when she vanished back in 2008. For years, one of those cases sat in the shadows, unanswered. Until plumbing, of all things, brought everything to the surface. At the center of it all: Adam Strong. A man described by some as generous and quiet and by others as violent and sexually sadistic. A man who, during interrogation, stayed eerily calm. Curious about the evidence. Interested in the case being built against him. In this episode, we’re talking about the investigation, the interrogations that stretched for hours, the forensic discoveries inside a cluttered apartment, and the courtroom battle that followed. This story reminds us that evil is everywhere and that the truth will always find its way out. Episode 144: Hauntings - The Red Lions
Built in 1773 in the heart of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, the Red Lion Inn began its life as a colonial tavern, serving travelers for nearly a century. When the Plumb family purchased the property, they didn’t just preserve it they transformed it. Mrs. Plumb personally filled the halls with colonial furniture, china, and artwork, curating an atmosphere that still lingers today inside the Inn. Unfortunately, in 1896, a devastating fire destroyed the original structure. Two world wars, Prohibition, and the Great Depression all threatened the future of the Inn. And yet it endured. Over the centuries, presidents, poets, and celebrities have all checked in, helping build its legendary reputation. Visitors and staff have long reported ghostly apparitions, sudden cold spots, and the unmistakable feeling of an unseen presence drifting through the historic corridors. And here’s where it gets even stranger. This isn’t the only Red Lion Inn with paranormal claims. Across England in places like Avebury, Salisbury, and Gloucester, you’ll find other locations bearing a similar name such as Red Lion Hotel or Red Lion Square, many with their own paranormal experiences attached. So is it coincidence? Or is there something about the name “Red Lion” itself that seems to attract the paranormal? Episode 143: Surviving the Unthinkable - The Turpin Family Story Part 2
A mother and father are supposed to be a child’s first love, their safest place. But in some homes, the people meant to protect you are the ones you have to survive. Unfortunately, for the Turpin children, that was their reality. David Turpin and Louise Turpin presented themselves as devoted parents, guided by their Pentecostal faith and committed to raising a large family. Over nearly three decades, they had 13 children. From the outside, there were few signs of what was really happening inside their home. But behind closed doors, those children endured years of severe physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. Isolation. Control. Fear. And a reality that most of us can barely comprehend. But one day, everything changed. After years of unimaginable abuse, a 17-year-old girl made a decision that would alter all of their lives. She escaped. With very little understanding of the world outside and clutching a phone, she called for help. That single act of courage led authorities to the home and to the rescue of all 13 siblings. But rescue was only the beginning. Because what came next wasn’t the immediate safety, stability, and healing you’d hope for. After being removed from the Turpin house, some of the children would face new challenges and, in some cases, another kind of hardship altogether. Episode 141: Northwest Nightmare - The I-5 Killer
In late 1980 and early 1981, the Northwest region of the United States was under a cloak of terror. It seemingly all began in October 1980 when a young woman named Cherie Ayers was found murdered in her Portland bedroom. No forced entry, No clear suspect. Weeks later, on Thanksgiving night, a young woman and her boyfriend are discovered murdered and bound with athletic tape. The only thing missing from the home was a .32 caliber silver revolver. Then the 911 calls began. In Seattle, a man with a silver revolver and athletic tape across the bridge of his nose was committing robberies up and down Interstate 5. Twenty-four attacks in just weeks. The media dubbed him the I-5 Bandit. In January 1981, another young woman, Shari Hull was bound, shot, and left for dead in Salem. Her friend survived the attack, giving the same description as the I-5 Bandit. Same build. Same gun. Same tape. Days later, in California, a nurse and her teenage daughter are found murdered in their home just off I-5. Ballistics confirm it’s the same .32 caliber weapon. 500 miles of highway. 3 states. And at the center of it all. One killer. In this episode, we talk about the victims of this predator and how dozens of lives were shattered along this corridor of fear. Episode 140: Shopping Cart Killer
Harrisonburg, Virginia is known as a quiet Shenandoah Valley college town framed by the Blue Ridge Mountains, home to James Madison University, a place often described as safe, close-knit, and steady. But in late 2021, that sense of steadiness was shaken. Behind an unassuming shopping center on Evelyn Byrd Avenue, human remains were discovered concealed, discarded, and at first unidentified. What followed was the uncovering of a pattern: women disappearing. At least four women across Virginia from Harrisonburg to Fairfax County, lost their lives. They were not all found in the same place. Their remains were discovered in different jurisdictions, in separate communities, at different times a pattern that might not have immediately appeared connected. In Harrisonburg, security cameras of a Howard Johnson Hotel captured critical footage images that helped investigators identify and track a suspect before more lives were lost. The man later charged would be labeled the “Shopping Cart Killer.” This story reminds us that evil is everywhere, and the worst people can pretend to be something else entirely. Episode 139: Death by Dance - The Dancing Plague of 1518
What if I told you that one of the deadliest outbreaks in history didn’t spread through sickness, but through movement? In the summer of 1518, in Strasbourg, the residents experienced an outbreak that had happened only in minor cases before. A woman stepped into the street and started dancing. No music. No celebration. And she didn’t stop for days, not eating or sleeping. After just a week, dozens of people had joined her. But this dancing wasn’t out of joy it was agony. Within a month, hundreds were convulsing, twisting, leaping uncontrollably through the streets. They danced until their feet bled, or until they collapsed. Some danced until dying from exhaustion, heart failure, or strokes. Theories around what could have caused this have been debated for centuries. Some blame poisoning, other historians point to mass psychogenic illness, collective hysteria fueled by starvation, disease, religious terror, and constant death. Eventually, the dancing stopped as suddenly as it began with no explanation. And to this day, we don’t really know why hundreds of people danced themselves to death in 1518. But this much is clear: the mind can override the body and history doesn’t always go along with logic. Episode 138: Witchcraft Never Leaves Tennessee - The Witches Circle and Bell Witch Legends
In the woods of Tennessee, there’s a circle you’re not supposed to step inside. Locals call it the Witches Circle, a ring of stone which sits somewhere outside Kingston, TN although the specific location is not known. Although not much information is confirmed, legend tells of a coven turned to stone for practicing their craft. People have seen dark figures roaming the forests and even heard whispers coming from the stones themselves. The location is said to be a possible portal to the underworld, but where? This not the only legend told in the state of Tennessee. Just miles away in what is now called Adams, TN, in the early 1800s, one family was terrorized by something unseen. An entity that scratched. Choked. And claimed it was a witch. The Bell family endured years of torment from an entity that would take the form of a beast with glowing red eyes as well as attack one of the family’s daughters physically. Only after the death of the patriarch John Bell did the occurrences cease. Today, locals still claim to see the figure with the glowing red eyes wandering the old Bell farm property. Others have claimed to encounter the witch in the network of caves underneath Adams. Join us as we discuss these two legends which lie in the rolling hills of Tennessee. Episode 137: Vanished - Sandra Hughes
Nature promises peace. Tranquility. A kind of freedom so many of us chase when life feels loud. For Sandra Johnson Hughes, known as Sandy, that pull toward the outdoors wasn’t an escape. It was a way of life. Sandy was free-spirited, constantly on the move, drawn to wild places and wide-open spaces. In early 2020, she relocated from Maui to California, just as the world was beginning to shut down. When COVID-19 lockdowns took hold and people retreated indoors, Sandy did the opposite. She headed into the Sierra National Forest on a solo camping trip, something she’d done before. Sandy was an experienced outdoorswoman, a self-described survivalist. Steep terrain, isolation, wildlife, none of it scared her. But just days after she set out in late June of 2020, her campsite was discovered in complete disarray. Her belongings were there. Sandy was not. Nearly six years later, there are still no answers. Some hikers and hunters claim they’ve seen her deep in the forest. Others believe she never made it out, some even say her spirit still lingers in the mountains. Yet Sandy’s family holds onto hope that she survived… that she’s still out there. So what really happened to Sandra Hughes in Madera County? In this episode, we dig into the timeline, the theories, and the haunting questions that remain unanswered. Because Sandy’s story isn’t over yet. Episode 135: Suspect Somewhere: The Murder of David Carter
When crimes go unsolved, the people left behind are trapped in a kind of limbo, unable to move forward, unable to fully grieve. But when a family believes they know who is responsible, and that person vanishes, the pain becomes something else entirely. That is what happened to the Carter family. David Carter was a fun-loving, ambitious man, a devoted father, a loyal friend, a protective brother. In October of 2018, a nightmare unfolded that no one saw coming. David disappeared. After failing to show up for work, day after day, his family grew alarmed. When they went to his apartment, they found it in disarray. And the woman he had been seeing, someone who had been with him nearly every day, appeared strangely unaffected by his absence. Something was wrong. Very wrong. Just days later, along Interstate 75 in Ohio, the Department of Transportation made a discovery: a sleeping bag, tightly bound, weighed down, its contents unmistakable. That was only the beginning. What followed would forever change the Carter family and ignite a search for justice that continues to this day. This is a story about love, loss, and a suspect who disappeared, reminding us that evil is everywhere and that even the most ordinary lives can be pulled into unimaginable darkness. Episode 134: Fatal Misdiagnosis - Patricia and Ryan Stallings
We hear it all the time from those accused of committing crimes….”I’m Innocent….i didn’t do it”. The problem? Convincing every else, including a judge and jury and providing evidence. Patricia Stallings faced this same speculation in 1989 when she was accused of poisoning her infant son. While in jail awaiting trial, maintaining her innocence, Patricia discovered she was pregnant again. What she and her husband David couldn’t imagine was this unexpected baby would end up providing the proof of Patricia’s innocence. The new infant, while under foster care, exhibited the same symptoms as his late brother. Testing confirmed a rare genetic disorder which if left untreated, would exhibit the same symptoms of antifreeze poisoning which was the initial cause of death of the infant Patricia was facing charges for. Despite the findings, Patricia still was convicting and sentenced to life in prison for poisoning her son. After her last appeal which aired on Unsolved Mysteries, local scientists conducted their own examinations and proved the mistakes of the evidence used to convict Patricia. This case proves that even if rare, genetic disorders need to be taken into consideration during investigations to prove, without a doubt, a crime had been committed. Episode 132: Greed, Guilt, and the Gallows - Captain Joseph White
Back in 1830, in Salem, Massachusetts, a wealthy retired sea captain, Joseph White, was found brutally murdered in his own home. 13 stab wounds and a bludgeoning to the skull, but there were no signs of robbery. No leads on who could have done it. The small town was terrified and suspicious of everyone. The town leaders formed a committee, consisting of 27 members, tasked with uncovering the truth. Although the Captain didn’t have the best of reputations, the community was more concerned about a killer running lose. After testimony from an apprehended criminal and a blackmailer, the men responsible for the crime were detained. The main leader of the plan was Joseph Knapp Jr, the husband of Captain White’s niece. When detained, Joseph confessed to the plan carried out by men he had hired. After avoiding walls with Massachusetts law, the famous Daniel Webster was able to get a jury to convict 2 of the 4 men accused of involvement. Captain White’s home, now referred to as the Gardner Pingree home, is believed to be haunted and is a common stop on ghost tours through historic Salem. Episode 131: The Haunted Monroe House
Nestled in the heart of Hartford City, Indiana, stands a house that has quietly watched generations pass. Known today as the Monroe House, it was built in the 1800s, long before Hartford City was transformed by the Indiana Gas Boom and its explosive fifteen-year surge of wealth and industry. That rapid growth drew families from across the country and overseas, all chasing opportunity, all hoping to claim a piece of the American dream. Among them was the Berger family, who arrived from Belgium in the 1880s and made the Monroe House their home. But their hopes were met with hardship. Shortly after settling in, tragedy followed. Lives inside the home grew increasingly difficult and some were cut short altogether. Since then, those who live within the Monroe House has experienced loss, grief, or misfortune. And for decades, those who have entered the home to investigate its past have reported something more. Apparitions. Disembodied screams. An overwhelming sense of being watched, and of an oppressive presence that refuses to leave. Tomorrow, we examine the history, at least what is known of it and the reports surrounding one of Indiana’s most infamous homes. Episode 130: The Dosso Family Murders
In December of 1997, Bartow, Florida was the town where nothing horrible was supposed to happen. But this month, the quiet, close-knit community became the setting for a brutal massacre. Inside a local business, Erie Manufacturing, four people were executed in broad daylight: Frank Dosso, his brother-in-law George Patisso, business partner George Gonsalves, and Frank’s sister, Diane Dosso. The crime scene offered little for the investigation. No weapon. No witnesses. No forensic evidence. Investigators believed it was a professional hit but for years, they couldn’t prove who was responsible. Suspicion kept circling back to one man, but he seemingly had an airtight alibi, he was supposedly out of town. But investigators uncovered a hidden trail: an alias, rental car, a mysterious flight, and one overlooked detail that would change everything. Almost a decade later, a single fingerprint would unravel the case. Afterwards, an international pursuit occurred, a legal loophole in Ecuador’s constitution, and a detective who refused to let the case go cold even when ordered to walk away. This is the story of a family destroyed, a town forever changed, and a crime that ALMOST became the perfect murder. Episode 129: Female Hannibal Lecter: Katherine Knight
Katherine Knight was born on October 24, 1955, in rural New South Wales. She entered the world as a twin, raised in a home marked by instability, violence, and emotional neglect. From a young age, Knight was exposed to the breakdown of her parents’ marriage, burdens no child should have carried. At school, she struggled to connect. Isolated and aggressive, she became known for bullying classmates and clashing with authority, eventually dropping out at just 15. By adulthood, however, Knight appeared to find her footing. She built a reputation as a skilled and dependable meat processor at an abattoir in Aberdeen, earning respect in the workplace. But behind that stability was a troubling pattern. Knight’s personal relationships were volatile, often defined by jealousy, control, and violence. Time and again, they ended badly. In 2000, she began a relationship with John Price—a well-liked local, known for his humor and generosity. Friends were wary, but Price believed in Knight and stood by her. It would be a fatal decision. What followed would become one of the most notorious crimes in Australian history, earning Knight international infamy and a grim nickname in the media. Episode 128: Same Name, Different Story - Kevin Bacon
The holiday season is a time where some may feel lonely despite being surrounded by the holiday cheer. Some decide to seek some sort of companionship during this time to ease their feelings. Kevin Bacon, 25 year old stylist from Swartz Creek, Michigan was a beacon of light to his loved ones. In December 2019, during the holiday season he was feeling a little lonely after not having much luck in prior relationships. He decided to meet up with a contact he met on grindr on Christmas eve. But when he didn’t show to his family’s Christmas brunch the next day, everyone became immediately concerned. After reporting him missing to the authorities, his father found Kevin’s car, abandoned. Police were able to gain access to Kevins’ phone left inside the vehicle and traced his last messages to a secluded home belonging to Mark Latunski. Mark was no stranger to police but no one was prepared for the horrors they found in his basement. Latunski admitted to atrocities that shocked the small town of Swartz Creek. He would ultimately plead guilty to open murder and mutilation, sentenced to life without parole, never showing a flicker of remorse. This case reminds us that a choice for connection can unknowingly collide with another’s darkest intentions. Episode 127: A Decade of Terror: The Town of Dryden Story - Part 2
Hidden away in Upstate New York lies the town of Dryden, a quiet community of just over 13,000 where life moved at a slow, trusting pace. Doors were often left unlocked, windows open, and neighbors watched out for each other. Crime felt like a distant concept, something that happened elsewhere. But beginning in the early 1990s, that sense of security was shattered. Over the course of a decade, Dryden was hit by a wave of brutal crimes and heart-breaking tragedies that shook its residents to the core. What some dismissed as a rare cluster of misfortune, others believed was a sign the town had been cursed, a dark cloud looming over every street, every home. In this two-part series, we’ll look back at the horror that erupted in a town once defined by innocence. We’ll explore how the community grappled with the terror and discover how, eventually, they found a way to heal. Join us, as we untangle the unsettling story behind Dryden’s darkest decade. How one community’s perseverance shaped how others viewed the otherwise small Upstate New York town.

Imagine going to work, only to be bullied and targeted by someone you have to be alongside all day… someone hiding a deadly secret. For stylist Joleen Cummings, that nightmare was real. At Tangles Hair Salon in Fernandina Beach, Florida, Joleen was a lively spirit, devoted to her loyal clientele. Episode 124: Nearly Unsolved: The Murder of Jane Britton
Think Ivy League, and you picture privilege, brilliance and maybe most of all, safety. When you’re paying top dollar to attend one of the most prestigious universities in the world, danger feels like the last thing on your mind. But evil doesn’t care about prestige. And what he found brought her promising life to a brutal and unexpected end. Jane’s death would become one of Harvard’s most chilling mysteries. One that would remain unsolved for nearly five decades. In this episode we’re uncovering who Jane was, the strange details surrounding her case and the unsettling truth about the places that we assume are safe. Episode 123: Plantation of the Damned: Myrtles Plantation
30 miles north of Baton Rouge, high on the bluffs above the Mississippi River, lies the tiny town of St. Francisville. A place locals jokingly call “two miles long and two yards wide.” Population? Barely 1500. But what it lacks in size… it makes up for in secrets. Tucked beneath ancient oaks and veils of Spanish moss, sits one of America’s most famously haunted homes: The Myrtles Plantation. This estate has witnessed its fair share of tragedy from rumored lynchings to accidental deaths, even whispered tales of cold-blooded murder. And while many of these stories are not confirmed by historical fact, that hasn’t stopped locals from keeping these tales alive. A servant punished for eavesdropping, a man gunned down by unknown intruders and the heartbreaking deaths of children whose presence, some say, never truly left. Today, the Myrtles stands as a beautifully restored bed-and-breakfast but guests and staff continue to report chilling encounters: children’s laughter echoing down empty halls, shadowy figures drifting across the grounds, disembodied voices, footsteps, and knocks in the dead of night. What’s most unsettling? Some visitors still can’t make it through till morning. Would you be brave enough to try? In the 1970s, Philadelphia was a city on the edge of losing itself. Factories closed. Jobs disappeared. And in the Kensington neighborhood… one man was about to lose his mind. Joseph Kallinger, known as the ‘Shoe Maker” was a man shaped by abuse throughout his entire childhood. The abuse spilled into his adulthood, into both of his marriages and his parenting. He became haunted by voices, one of them he claimed to be God, who were telling him to hurt the innocent. After he had committed the murders of a neighborhood boy and even one of his own sons, Joseph and one of his other sons, Michael went on a six-week spree of terror, stretching across three states. The pair committed a multitude of Burglaries and assaults. But it wasn’t until the murder of Maria Fasching did their spree come to an end. Episode 118: Faith, Love & Murder: David and Melinda Harmon
David and Melinda Harmon seemed to have the kind of marriage built on unshakable faith. They were young, devoted, and deeply involved in their Nazarene community. David worked as a banker. Melinda served as a secretary at a nearby Nazarene university. Together, they embodied the values their church preached: love, commitment, and service. But on a cold February night in 1982, that image shattered. According to police, two masked intruders broke into the Harmons’ home while the couple slept. They were said to be searching for the keys to David’s bank. What happened next was brutal. David was attacked in his bed, bludgeoned repeatedly with a crowbar, while Melinda awoke to a nightmare. She told investigators she was forced downstairs, threatened, and made to hand over the bank key before the intruders fled into the night. It was a story that gripped their tight-knit church community and for years, no one questioned it. But decades later, shocking new evidence would reveal that the truth was far more twisted than anyone imagined. This is the story of faith, deception, and a murder that shattered a community’s belief in good and evil and proved that evil is everywhere, even in the most devout places. Episode 117: Double Crossed - Elise Makdessi and Quincy Brown
Virginia Beach, 1996 was a booming coastal city on the edge of the Atlantic — a place where suburbia meets beach-town freedom… and military precision. Among its residents was Petty Officer Elise Makdessi and her husband, Eddie, a computer technician. They had moved to the city in 1994, and on the surface, everything seemed normal. Until May of 1996. Eddie Makdessi called 911 on May 14 in a panic, claiming an intruder had broken into their home, stabbed Elise, and that he had shot the attacker to defend her. At first, it seemed like a clear-cut case of self-defense. But detectives weren’t convinced. Every detail was scrutinized, all evidence closely examined. And what they discovered didn’t just raise questions — it contradicted Eddie Makdessi’s story entirely. It would take nearly a decade of investigation before justice was finally served. This is a case that reminds us: not everything is as it first appears. Sometimes, the smallest details make all the difference. Episode 116: Serial Killer - Kenneth McDuff
Rosebud, Texas, a quiet, tight-knit community where front doors stayed unlocked and neighbors waved from their porches. It was the kind of place where everyone knew everyone, and families had lived side by side for generations. But hidden behind that small-town comfort was something far darker. Because in the 1960s, Rosebud harbored a monster. His name was Kenneth McDuff, a towering figure over six feet tall, over two hundred pounds and even as a teenager, he knew how to use his size to get what he wanted. Then came the summer of 1966. A night that would shatter the peace of Rosebud forever. What began as intimidation ended in horror; three local teens brutally murdered. McDuff was caught, tried, and sentenced to death. For the community, it felt like justice and closure. But it wouldn’t last. Decades later, thanks to changes in Texas law and overcrowded prisons, Kenneth McDuff walked free. And once again, the killing began. What followed was a reign of terror that stretched far beyond Rosebud; a story that forced Texas, and the nation, to confront a chilling truth: sometimes, evil doesn’t die behind bars… it walks right out the gate. Then they learned the last person Ashley was seen with was Jared Chance, an old friend of hers. Determined to confront him, they went to his apartment only to be met by police. Hours earlier, a 911 call had led officers to a horrifying discovery in the basement of Jared’s home. This discovery led to heart break for Ashley’s family and friends. Episode 114: From Crime to Curse - The Amityville Story
Over the last seventy years, Ed and Lorraine Warren have become household names in the world of the paranormal. Lorraine, the clairvoyant who claimed she could sense things most of us couldn’t, and Ed, the self-taught demonologist who dedicated his life to uncovering evil in its purest form. Together, they investigated hundreds of hauntings across the United States. But one case stands out from the rest. Amityville. Before the Warrens ever set foot inside that Dutch Colonial home on Ocean Avenue, it was already stained by something horrific. In 1974, tragedy struck when twenty-three-year-old Ronald DeFeo Jr. claimed he came home from work to find his entire family murdered in their beds. Police rushed to the scene but quickly realized Ronald’s story didn’t add up. He wasn’t a survivor. He was the killer. And that kind of violence, it leaves something behind. When the next family, the Lutzes, moved in, they didn’t last long. They said the house was alive with something dark, something malevolent. Within just weeks, they fled in terror, never to return. What really happened inside 112 Ocean Avenue? Was it haunted by the evil that took root there or something far more human? This is a story that reminds us that evil is everywhere, always lurking, always waiting, even sometimes for decades. It was here that Peter Fabiano settled with his wife, Betty. Peter was a former Marine turned owner of two successful beauty salons in the LA area. But Halloween night 1957 would shatter the peaceful neighborhood. Around 11 p.m., a knock at the door changed everything. Betty rushed to Peter while her daughter sprinted to a neighbor for help, but it was too late. Peter succumbed to his injury. Who could have wanted Peter dead? And why? Whispers from friends and employees soon pointed to one name: Joan Rabel. When police investigated into Joan, they found a web of complicated relationships between her and the Fabiano’s.
