As a kid, I would look at people my parents age and older and thing they were ancient. Thankfully the tables have turned and nowadays, people in their 50s and 60s are just coming into the time of their lives when they can find their passion and purpose in life. Follow their dreams and live! I sat down with Caroline Labouchere, a model and influencer who began her successful modeling career in her fifties. Caroline discusses her journey from being a school receptionist to being featured in British Vogue, not once, but 8 times at age 54. She had never modelled before, in fact, quite the contrary, she was a wife, mother and liked to hide behind these roles.  She and her family went through some very tough times, which changed her mindset and made her realise she needed to take control of her life and those around her. This week's podcast may seem a bit off-topic from my usual interviews, but on the other hand not really. I always like to interview people who are using their voice to make a difference and today's podcast guest is no exception.  Kareem teaches people how to use their voice to make a difference through language skills.  Kareem teaches conversational Arabic. He is the Founder of the School Of Yalla. As someone who has travelled a lot and lived in many countries, I do believe immersing yourself in the language of the country you are living in is helpful to establish deeper relationships and have a better understanding of a culture.  When living in Germany, I learned German. When living in Belgium, I learned Flemish. However, since living in Dubai, I'm ashamed to say, I have not managed to learn Arabic, bu not from a lack of trying.  We talk about the barriers faced when learning Modern Standard Arabic as opposed to conversational Arabic. Kareem teaches us his 'Focus 15' method for learning almost anything, but especially a language.  Also the importance of consistency, and the motivational power of setting small, achievable goals.  Kareem delves into the differences between Fusha (Modern Standard Arabic) and conversational Arabic. Are you a woman working in a male dominated workplace who struggles to have a voice, be seen and given the same opportunities as your male counterparts?  Yes we've seen a big movement towards women empowerment along with equal rights and salaries, but we are not there yet. In today's podcast episode is VALUE packed with so many take aways. I sit down with Dr. Kerstin Brehm, an esteemed cardiac surgeon from Germany. Kerstin shares her own personal battles with hierarchy and equal opportunity in a high powered, male-dominated field and her journey into consultancy and mentoring ambitious women in business, to speak up, find their voice and secure their future.  We talked about salary bands, (initially, I thought we were talking about salary bans, so was a bit confused. 🙄) Dr Kerstin, hadn't negotiated her salary for 11 years because she didn't realise it was possible. I had no idea…Kerstin opened our minds to different ways men and women communicate and why this plays a role in opportunities.
