GracePointe Church | Nashville, TN

The GracePointe community is leading the theological development and practice of Progressive Christianity. This is at the core of what makes us distinct, and is far from a simple label change for a modern repackaging of traditional beliefs.

    Bible Stories for Grown-Ups: Ruth

This week we continued our Bible Stories for Grown-Ups series by looking at the story of Ruth. This teaching follows the drama of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz through loss, risk, and unexpected grace, all to discover how ordinary acts of faithfulness can open the door to extraordinary, transformative possibilities. We also explored how the story of Ruth challenges our own current moment, too.⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/gracepointetnFollow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/gracepointetn

Bible Stories for Grown-Ups: Jacob and Esau

This week we began a new series called Bible Stories for Grown-Ups. The idea behind the series is simple: Many of us were offered interpretations of the Bible as children and, either implicitly or explicitly, told that we had the right "answers" and that faithfulness meant keeping and repeating those interpretations for our whole lives. But that isn't how anything really works, is it? As we mature into adulthood and beyond, we take what we were taught as children--about math, science, etc--and expand our understanding as we grow. Shouldn't we do the same with the Bible? Our first sermon in this series explores the contentious relationship between two brothers, Jacob and Esau. What does their story have to say to us as grown-ups? ⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/gracepointetnFollow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/gracepointetn

Easter: What Does God Do About Injustice?

The first Easter happened as Jesus's followers were trying to make sense of his death. How would God respond to the injustice of their friend and teacher's execution by the Roman State? While separated by some two 2,000 years, we also know this question and carry it deep in our bones: What will God do about the injustice in our world? Thankfully, the Easter story has much to say about this question.⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/gracepointetnFollow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/gracepointetn

This week Josh tackled another important question related to the meanings of Jesus's death: Did Jesus die for our sins? Was his death God's requirement, necessary to forgive human sin? Ashes and Dust: An Introduction to Lent and Ash Wednesday

On the Christian calendar the weeks leading up to Easter are set aside for a special focus and attention to the important questions we can miss in our hectic and busy lives: Who am I?Is that the person I want to be?What is my impact on the world around me?  This season, known as Lent, lasts for a period of 40 days, and begins with Ash Wednesday, which falls on February 18th this year. For many people, Ash Wednesday is a day associated with guilt, shame, and a rejection of humanity. But is that the only way to approach this day and this season? The good news is we can embrace the meaning and practices of Ash Wednesday and Lent, like repentance, while also affirming the goodness of humanity. How? Josh explores that question this week.

    Epiphany : Calming the Storm

Storms have a way of exposing what we fear most—about the world, about ourselves, and about God. In this familiar story of wind, waves, and a sleeping Jesus, we’re invited to look beyond the miracle and listen for a deeper question: What does real peace look like when chaos is still raging? In keeping with our Epiphany theme, we will also focus on how this story reveals something about Jesus (and us!) that just might inspire hope in the chaos of life.⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/gracepointetnFollow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/gracepointetn

    Epiphany : Feeding the 5,000

So far in our Epiphany series we have explored the two core stories of this season, the Adoration of the Magi and the Baptism of Jesus. This week we begin to explore other stories that reveal something about who Jesus is and what his movement is about. Many, if not most, of us are familiar with the story of Jesus's miraculous "Feeding of the 5,000," but what if there's more going on with this story than what we see on the surface? What if the real miracle is not just about a supernatural multiplication of loaves and fishes, but about the transformation of the human heart? Josh will invite us to consider all that and more in this week's sermon.

Epiphany : The Baptism of Jesus

We continue our journey through Epiphany by looking at the story of Jesus's baptism. This is the first public event of Jesus's life (that we know about), and it is packed full of Epiphany-rich meaning. Epiphany : God is a Verb

This week, as we begin a new year, we are also beginning a new message series. On the Christian calendar, the year begins with Advent and Christmas. Next comes Epiphany, a season that focuses on Jesus being made known to the world. In this series we’ll explore the stories associated with this season, and also other stories of “Epiphany moments” in the Bible. This week Josh introduces the idea of Epiphany and invites us to see God as a verb, not just a noun.

Advent : O Little Town of Bethlehem

For the final week of Advent we turn our focus to the hymn O Little Town of Bethlehem. While we know that Jesus's birth is set in this small but significant town in Matthew and Luke, why might that be the case? Why do the Gospel writers want his birth to happen in Bethlehem rather than a town like Nazareth? In this sermon Josh explores the meaning of Bethlehem back then, and asks what significance it might have for us today.

Advent : Joy to the World

“Joy to the World” is one of the most familiar songs of the season, but its origins—and its message—might surprise you. This week Josh takes a fresh look at what it means for God to "set the world right," and how that hope meets us in unexpected places, through unlikely people. From ancient texts about startled shepherds to our own lives today, this teaching explores a vision of judgment, justice, and joy that stretches wider than we often imagine.⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/gracepointetnFollow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/gracepointetn

    Advent : O Come, O Come Emmanuel

During Advent we’re exploring the deeper stories behind familiar carols, beginning with O Come, O Come, Emmanuel—a song not of celebration, but of longing. This ancient hymn arises from the experience of exile, when hope felt distant and God seemed far from away. In this message Josh traces that longing through Israel’s history and into Matthew’s telling of Jesus’s birth, where Emmanuel—“God with us”—becomes a bold reimagining of divine presence under empire. Along the way, we’ll see how early Christians reread their scriptures to make sense of their experience of Jesus. And ultimately, we’ll discover that this carol invites us to name our own exiles and dare to hope in a God who can be found right in the middle of them.⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at   / gracepointetn  Follow us on Instagram at   / gracepointetn

    GracePointe 201: Jesus

This week in GracePointe 201 we’re exploring the Jesus of history and the Christ of faith—a framework that helps us hold both the grounded, historical reality of Jesus as a person of the past, and the living, abiding experience of Jesus for so many today. For many Christians Jesus is the great exception--somehow able to be like us but infinitely better than us. This Jesus is to be worshipped, but we all know deep down he can not be truly imitated or followed. What if there is another way to see Jesus, not as the exception, but as the rule? What if Jesus represents our potential, an invitation to become everything we can become? ⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/gracepointetnFollow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/gracepointetn

    GracePointe 201: The Bible

Several years ago our Founding Pastor, Stan Mitchell, led us through a conversation called “GracePointe 101” that explored our growing understanding of the Bible, God, Jesus, and Church. Beginning this weekend we will build on that work and continue the conversation. because our understanding of the faith journey is that it is always unfinished, unfolding, and in-progress.This week we began with the Bible. What is the Bible? Does it still matter for us today? How can we approach it with both reverence and reason? Listen in as Josh leads us in that conversation!⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/gracepointetnFollow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/gracepointetn

    Grab Bag: The Beatitudes

Our next installment of our summer series, “Grab Bag,” draws our attention to a series of “blessings” Jesus pronounces in the Gospel of Matthew. Known as “The Beatitudes,” these blessings are announced to people in unlikely situations - we don’t often feel blessed when mourning, hungry, or persecuted, for example. What is Jesus doing with these blessings? What do they teach us about Jesus’s vision for the world? Josh explores this and more in this week's message!⛪️ To learn more about who we are and what we do, visit https://gracepointe.net/about-us🗣 For weekly event and ways to get plugged in, visit https://gracepointe.net/calendar🙌 To become a sustaining member of the GracePointe community, visit https://gracepointe.net/giveLike us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/gracepointetnFollow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/gracepointetn

This week we continued our “Grab Bag” series by turning to an important question: Is Jesus our savior?
