Carson Benge delivered his first career walk-off, as the New York Mets came back for the second straight night to defeat the Detroit Tigers, 3-2.  Benge, unfortunately, was the cause of both of the Tigers runs after he couldn't get to a ball in the first inning. But he was able to make up for it with three hits, include the walk-off in the 10th. A.J. Ewing had an unbelievable MLB debut and the New York Mets broke out offensively to beat the Detroit Tigers, 10-2. Well, there were questions about whether or not Ewing could provide a spark for the Mets offense. Those questions were answered rather quickly. The 21-year-old in his MLB debut was on base four times, drove in two runs and hit a triple for his first big league hit.  And the rest of the team responded. Every starter for the Mets had a hit. Three errors and just four hits was the recipe for a New York Mets series loss, as they fell to the D-backs 5-1. It was more of the same for the Mets, who didn't get their first hit since the sixth inning. And dating back to the 5th inning of yesterday's game, the Mets went 22 straight batters without getting on base.  The Mets went the entire series without getting a hit from the top three of their lineup, making that much more difficult for the offense to do much of anything.  Pitching wise, the Mets were betrayed by some sloppy defense. The offense for the New York Mets was once again missing, as they fell to the Arizona D-backs 2-1. Last night the Mets were able to play a tie game and find the big hit in extras. Behind a 2 RBI night from Mark Vientos, the New York Mets defeated the Arizona D-backs 3--1 in extras.  The bats were mostly cold on a hot desert night in Phoenix, but Vientos provided all of the offense the Mets would need to move to 5-2 on this road trip.  Coming into the night, the Mets were 1-6 in games started by Nolan McLean. The New York Mets used a four-run sixth inning to win their third game out of their last four, defeating the Colorado Rockies 4-2.  It took a bit for the offense, who were held hitless over the first five innings by Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano. But a Carson Benge homer and a two-RBI hit from Mark Vientos book-ended a four run frame for the bats. David Peterson got his first win of the 2026 season, as he looked good once again in the bullpen role. David Peterson struggled in his return to the rotation, as the New York Mets were blown out in a 14-2 loss.  For as comfortable as last night's win was for the Mets, tonight was the complete opposite. They were down 2-0 before they even got to bat as the Washington Nationals got to Peterson for three hits in the first inning.  It was, however, the 4th inning were things collapsed for Peterson and the Mets. All nine Nationals got to bat, they scored a run via a single, a walk and a hit batter before Brady House brought the house down with a grand slam to give the Nationals a 9-1 lead.  The offense for the Mets was basically Juan Soto and Juan Soto alone. He had a three hit night that included a solo home, his second his two games. The New York Mets comeback fell short, as they dropped the opener to the Colorado Rockies 4-3. Freddy Peralta got the start for the Mets, and it was mostly a typical Peralta start. He looked great through the first four innings and was gifted an early 1-0 lead after the Mets scratched out a run in the 2nd.  The 5th inning came around, however, and Peralta struggled. He coughed up the lead but was able to keep the game tied. A bit of a puzzling decision by manager Carlos Mendoza to let Peralta start, and stay in once trouble started, in the 6th backfired. The Rockies took a 2-1 lead and added on some much needed insurance in the 7th.  Brett Baty delivered a two-run single that got the Mets within a run but Mark Vientos lined into a double play to end the Mets rally in the 8th.  Kodai Senga goes tomorrow, with this potentially being his last opportunity to keep his rotation spot. Bo Bichette delivered his first HUGE moment as a Met, as they defeated the Twins for their second straight win. This win was much different than last night, with the Mets offense breaking out for 10 runs. Bichette delivered the game-deciding, bases-clearing RBI double in the 8th. It was also a huge day for Brett Baty and Carson Benge, who hit slammed home runs of their own.  It was not the return/debut that Christian Scott was looking for, as his command eluded him and he was only able to get the Mets four outs. It wasn't pretty, but the New York Mets have snapped their losing streak defeating the Minnesota Twins 3--2.  The night started with Clay Holmes and his brilliance. Another start where he was able to go seven innings and he did it mostly by throwing his sinker.  Offensively, the Mets got started early. They turned a leadoff double by Bo Bichette into an early lead. They responded in the 4th to the Twins tying the game by quickly taking the lead back. But after the Twins tied it, it was Mark Vientos who delivered the hit that put the Mets in front for good. It's not all good news, as Francisco Lindor left the game with left calf tightness. That's the same injury that Juan Soto just returned from tonight. A 3-0 lead? Five perfect from Nolan McLean? It didn't matter, as the New York Mets lost their 12th straight game.  It was the perfect storm for the Mets early. Nolan McLean was looking like his dominate self and the Mets jumped out to their first lead of two runs or more since April 7th, thanks to a Francisco Lindor 3-run HR.  But, McLean hit a wall in the 6th and 7th innings and that allowed the Minnesota Twins to tie it up. And then Devin Williams had his third straight bad outing, allowing two runs and not recording an out. The Mets did not get a hit off of the Twins bullpen, who entered the game with an ERA north of 5. Two outs away. The New York Mets were two outs away from snapping their losing streak. Instead, they lost in extras for their 11th straight loss.  It was another rough day for the Mets offensively, as an MJ Melendez solo HR accounted for the only run.
