Phonons Podcast 114 Aerae
Aerae is a French electronic producer and DJ whose work exists at the intersection of rhythm, texture and instinct. Her sound blends techno, downtempo and experimental drum & bass, shaped by an organic, ritualistic approach to electronic composition. Guided by intuition and a deep sensitivity to flow, she crafts evolving sound worlds that balance physical momentum with atmospheric detail. Her productions move fluidly between deep, bass-driven percussion, broken rhythmic structures and shadowy, immersive sound design. Animal-like articulations, earthy textures and subtle melodic traces give her music a living, breathing quality. Whether slow-burning or forward-driving, her tracks emphasise groove, restraint and emotional depth over maximalism. AERAE’s discography charts an increasingly refined signature. Her debut album ‘‘Percussive Reverie‘‘ (Annulled Music) explored broken rhythms and dub-infused atmospheres. ‘‘Conscientiae‘‘ (Stagno Records) delved deeper into elemental downtempo, while her first EP ‘‘Nefanda‘‘ on Samurai Music ventured into shadow-laden, experimental drum & bass with detailed sound design and ritualistic cadence. Her newest EP, ‘‘Terrā‘‘ on QEONE, presents her most immersive narrative to date. Across four tracks, she blends tribal low-end, hypnotic drones, pendulum-like movement and naturalistic sonic motifs. From the gentle pull of “Olabi” to the driving, swirling energy of “Aether,” the forest-like psychedelia of “Lenis,” and the ritualistic centrepiece of the title track, ‘‘Terrā‘‘ unfolds as a cohesive, organic journey shaped by flow, instinct and textural depth. As a DJ, Aerae builds tension with precision — layering shadowy atmospheres, broken pulses and subtle transitions that evolve with internal logic. Her sets lean into deep percussion, immersive soundscapes and controlled rhythmic pressure, creating a physical yet introspective experience. With a growing presence across festivals and clubs, independent labels and experimental electronic circles, AERAE continues to develop a personal sonic language rooted in movement, intuition and the unpredictable beauty of the natural world. https://soundcloud.com/aeraemusic https://www.instagram.com/_aerae__/ Bookings: [email protected]

Phonons Podcast 113 Sarah Wreath
Few artists move as fluidly between club culture, sound research and practice as Sarah Wreath. With over two decades spent collecting electronic music and a DJ practice, her relationship with sound is the result of long, patient craftsmanship rooted in vinyl, deep listening, and an intuitive understanding of atmosphere and flow. Sarah’s work resists fixed categories. Her sets and productions unfold as immersive journeys, navigating a wide spectrum of tempos and textures, from ambient and tribal rhythms to techno infused with a distinctly psychedelic charge. Regardless of form, her music is guided by a sensitivity to frequency, space, and the body’s response to sound. After dedicating her time to studying sound engineering, in 2024 Sarah released her debut LP Integration on the renowned label The Bunker New York, underscoring her commitment to immersive rhythm and sonic exploration. This path led to her collaboration on Sandwell District’s album End Beginnings, placing her within the current vanguard of experimental techno while continuing to explore sound as a tool for connection and transformation. https://soundcloud.com/sarahwreath https://www.instagram.com/sarahhwreath/ https://ra.co/dj/sarahwreath

Phonons Podcast 090 Forest On Stasys
The creativity of Forest On Stasys is Influenced by tribal minimalist techno in the nineties and the deepest and most abstract techno currently. In his tracks the most seductive elements are the use of resonant basses perfectly combined with long and reverberated pads, extensive sonorous landscapes that are modified by continuous movement of LFO, solid grooves and strident percussions. But not everything that comes out of his head is created with an intention to be used on the dance floor. He has a great admiration for drone and ambient tracks, without a rhythmic pattern that predominates, where the main factor is to captivate the listener with melodies that can be marked by a strong melancholy or with notes that give a certain feeling of satisfaction depending on his current mood. At the beginning of 2019, he released his first work 'A Vision Of Light' in Danza Nativa, where currently he is one of the pillars of the label based in Buenos Aires. Phonons Podcast 089 Irakli
Originally from Georgia, Irakli’s early descent into the German capital has seen him corner and develop a side of the local scene and turn it into something of an international fare. Ten years ago he created STAUB, one of Berlin’s most celebrated techno parties. As a part of the production duo I/Y, he has been releasing music under the synonymous co-founded label. But most of all, Irakli’s craft behind the decks has been weighed upon by the likeliest of Berlin’s underground venues, with his vision of electronic music taken further afield in Europe, and the Americas. In 2017 he founded the Intergalactic Research Institute for Sound with artists like Stanislav Tolkachev, Natalie Beridze, Rezo Glonti and many others. 2021 Irakli released debut album „Major Signals“ on Dial Records. Adding orchestral collaborations and sound installations to a field of work outside of the club, Irakli’s expanding platforms and industrious connection to Berlin has seen his entry point into the scene now serve as an outlet into the more abstract, experimental realms of techno. With new endeavors afoot and a creative repertoire to boot, Irakli’s DJ sets, labels and parties always display unique qualities. It does not matter whether he is exploring beatless soundscapes or high energy music, Irakli always manages to create something special. https://intergalacticresearchinstituteforsound.bandcamp.com/ https://soundcloud.com/irakli https://www.discogs.com/artist/293095-Irakli https://www.instagram.com/1_rakli/ Tracklist: 1 Infinite Size - Hippie Cassette 2. Phonons Podcast 084 Tasha
Tasha first made her name as a DJ in the drum & bass community, with her mixes being aired by DJ Flight on BBC 1Xtra and Storm making her resident at her Feline night, she became a firm part of the community, going onto play regularly at Renegade Hardware and across Europe. A dedicated head to the core, her exploratory experiences raving at London’s techno nights, being behind the counter, selling records at BM Soho and listening to more techno started to make their way into her sets and radio shows when she started out with her residency on Rinse FM. Radio has been a backbone of Tasha’s approach as a DJ - expressing her appreciation for electronic music over the course of 4 years on Rinse FM back in 2009 & again since 2018. Tasha’s DJing style matches this textured background of her influences and has developed into a master-flow of form - weaving tunes together seamlessly from her bass informed home of the UK alongside four four techno forms born in Berlin and Detroit. With an accomplished and atmospheric hold on the dancefloor, her sound is wholly affecting and has taken her to some of the best festivals and clubs in key cities around the world from London to Australia, including Tresor, Glastonbury, Bestival and is a regular at fabric and Corsica Studios. Tasha also made her name as an event programmer within electronic music when she began to promote parties at the much-revered venue Plastic People in East London. Her first venture was a co-promotion called Medium that was started in 2007 by a trio of like minds, including her good friend Sigha, where they would book multi-genre parties and alternative sets at a time when this type of programming was almost unheard of. It was in Dec 2010 when she decided to go it alone at Plastic People and started her own concept called ‘Neighbourhood’, for Tasha to book techno artists who she believes in and loves without compromise from different Neighbourhoods, including artists such as Pangaea, Pariah, Ben Sims, Neil Landstrumm, Zenker Brothers, Henning Baer, Stenny, John Swing. The Neighbourhood concept has gone on to host parties at many clubs of note, including Pickle Factory, a collaboration with Ben Sims Machine party and Jaded at Corsica Studios, and hosting The Dome at popular Field Maneuvers festival. Plus Goldie invited Neighbourhood to host room 2 at the mighty Metalheadz events when they were at Cable club. Tasha has made a lasting impression on many artists she has booked both with her sets and her parties. In 2016 Tasha launched the label Neighbourhood with Randomer, Cadans, Kamikaze Space Programme, Metrist and Forest Drive West all featuring to date. The last couple of years have seen Tasha begin to share her own studio workings with the world, working keenly in the studio behind the scenes, she’s been busy refining her sound. Her debut track landed on the save fabric compilation in 2016 with her next coming is on UK techno king Ben Sim’s massive compilation, ‘Tribology’. In an industry where artists are asked to prioritize their art for social media presence, likes and other vacuous pursuits, Tasha is very much in demand for her ‘music first’ attitude, selection and ability. A refreshing outlook and positive future awaits the DJ, producer, promoter and label owner. Pic by Harley madams Socials: Instagram - tasha_neighbourhood Facebook: tasha.ldn

Phonons Podcast 078 Fred P
“Deep”, perhaps the word most associated with the career of Fred P, and for once, an accurate portrayal. Eleven albums, innumerable releases and decades of Djing into his career, the New York-turned-Berlin resident continues to push further into his own sound, craft, and mind. For those fortunate enough to be present for one of Fred's cathartic, physical and spiritual DJ sets, the dance floor is not just a place for enjoyment, but for potential. That opportunity for potential – his own, yours, that of our collective consciousness – has long-been the earnest pursuit of Fred P, channeled expertly through his evolved and deeply personal exploration of house and techno music. His futurist approach is inspired as much by the scene's bonafide revolutionaries, Frankie Knuckles to David Morales and Danny Tenaglia, as his own futurist philosophy, weaved together from a glorious patchwork inspired by an ever- expanding network or thinkers, collaborators, and international encounters. https://soundcloud.com/black-jazz-consortium https://privatesociety.bandcamp.com/music https://privatesociety.bandcamp.com/ https://www.discogs.com/fr/artist/936665-Fred-P https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100045826086012 https://www.instagram.com/fred_p_official/?hl=fr

Phonons Podcast 077 Merv
The story .. so far In the beginning of the 1990s four guys got together in a basement studio on Bornholm (small island in the Baltic Sea) and founded Merv. The members at that time were Brian Oldenborg, Jan Christiansen, Johnnie Schmidt and Thomas Gylsen. Demo tapes were recorded on DAT and sent to a label in Copenhagen. The label was Mainline Records run by late Henrik Möll and Daniel Mortazavi. The label consisted of several sublabels including Dancecop, which was the label aiming for underground techno releases. Merv debuted with the EP "Melted Vein" and despite a bad vinyl quality and sound at that time, the record attracted attention enough for years to come. In the following three years follow-up EPs were released, but it never really took off and the band started working with other projects. After several years of hiatus (17 years to be exact), a Berlin based label Styrax contacted Merv with the idea of doing a repress of two specific tracks - "Dust" and "Melted Vein". The guy behind the label was Steffen Laschinski aka Rising Sun. It should not just be a re-press of the originals, but a remastered edition fixing all the audio flaws that were present on the old recordings. In the meantime Johnnie Schmidt and Thomas Gylsen had left the band. Brian Oldenborg and Jan Christiansen met in the studio once again to look for the old DAT tapes containing the tracks. Luckily they were still intact and were recorded digitally and audio artefacts removed before they were sent to final re-mastering. The EP was named "Re-Melted" and the mastering was done at Dubplates and Mastering which was founded by none other than Basic Channel. The original was not pressed in large numbers so the news about a repress with enhanced audio was very welcomed by the dub techno collectors. The reissue got so much attention that it was obvious to introduce Merv again as a band and in the following years Jan & Brian started producing tracks again. It was a challenge to get the same vibe since all of the old equipment were long gone and replaced by software based synths and drum machines. To reproduce the vibes of the Merv sound, analog mixer and synths were brought back in the studio together with the same effects units that shaped the sound in the 90s. The journey up until today has been quite a ride with lots of releases on dedicated vinyl labels like Minimood, Ranges, Subwax, Kontakt and many more. The ride is not over so stay tuned ! https://www.discogs.com/fr/artist/99174-Merv https://kontakt-records.bandcamp.com/album/merv-meticule-ep-stojche-andr-kronert-rmx https://kontakt-records.bandcamp.com/album/merv-remain https://www.deejay.de/Merv_Form_MINIMOOD022_Vinyl__959061

The subtle charm of his mixes encourages a reflective, ruminative headspace; a sound which focuses on creating moods, all the while emphasizing the human aspect of music.
