EP. 3: What Being "The Strong One" Will Cost You
Being The Strong One was a waste of time. All the love and care I had for my family could still be expressed if I also took care of myself. It didn’t need to be one or the other, even though it felt that way at the time. But culturally and socially, Latinas are raised to put the needs of others before their own. Everyone else’s needs were at the top of my to-do list. Which meant a routine check-up that could have caught my cancer diagnosis early was pushed off for years. And that wasn’t the only way being The Strong One affected my health. In this week’s episode, we’re talking about what being “The Strong One” will cost you. Because there is a cost to constantly putting yourself last. I was forced to face the exhaustion, the poor mental health, and the chronic stress on top of my new cancer diagnosis, and it was horrible. Tune in to hear why I identified so hard with being The Strong One and how I eventually learned to ask for help. EP. 2: What Being a 3rd Generation Cancer Survivor Taught Me
Cancer affects us all differently. We are all diagnosed with different stages and different complications. When I was first diagnosed, I felt completely lost, and if I were being honest, a bit guilty.I had neglected myself in a way that my mother and grandmother didn’t. They knew to get tested and screened regularly, and they taught me to do so, too. But I got so wrapped up in taking care of everyone else that I put off a routine screening for four years. They were diagnosed at stage one, and I was diagnosed at stage three. I was devastated, but in the midst of all the feelings, I could count on my mother’s and grandmother’s cancer road map.In this week’s episode, we’re talking about what being a 3rd generation cancer survivor taught me. I learned a lot from the women who came before me. They taught me how to endure and survive in the face of adversity. But through this process, I also learned how to let go of the more detrimental habits they picked up, so that I wouldn’t harm myself and pass them on to my own children. Tune in to hear what helped me through my diagnosis and what I politely left behind as a ten-year cancer survivor. EP. 1: Welcome to Sana Sana the Podcast!
I know that I owe so much to the doctors and treatment that healed me after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. They deserve all my respect and admiration for making me better again. However, throughout all the medication and treatments, I still felt alone. I needed someone I could emotionally connect to, someone who could teach me how to face this disease and still feel like myself. I needed a helping hand, and I didn’t find one until after I started recovering. I never want you to go through that alone, which is why I am offering you the support I needed back then that I didn’t have at the time.My name is Eileen Tome Lopez, your go-to cancer recovery coach. I am a first-generation Cuban-American woman, eldest daughter, wife, working mother of five, and breast cancer survivor. I lead my cancer recovery services, the EcoSystem of Healing™️, with faith, authenticity, and a fierce commitment to healing and service. Drawing from my experiences as a survivor, a public servant, and advocate, I guide Hispanic and Latina women to embrace their stories and create a life designed for their wants and needs - not dictated by culture or circumstance. In this week’s episode, we're going to talk about my cancer recovery journey, important lessons I’ve learned along the way, and the resources I can give you during this time, whether you're in the middle of your recovery journey or you’re in remission. Sana Sana is dedicated to supporting Hispanic and Latina breast cancer survivors who have always been the “strong ones” and now feel lost in their identity after cancer diagnosis. I will share the foundation of my EcoSystem of Healing™️ coaching process, which I use to help my clients, old and new, restore trust in their bodies, release perfectionism, advocate for themselves, and live from a place of healing and peace rather than survival. Tune in for all this and more as we go through this journey together. Trailer - Sana Sana by Eileen Lopez Tome
Welcome to the Sana Sana podcast! These conversations have been on my heart for a long time, because this is what I needed 10 years ago when I was first diagnosed. I am a first-generation Cuban-American woman, eldest daughter, wife, working mother of five, and breast cancer survivor. When I first received my cancer diagnosis, I felt terrified and alone. I had a wonderful medical team that saved my life, but I had no idea who to turn to besides them. I needed more than the external, physical healing the medical industry offered me. I needed to talk to someone with firsthand experience, someone who could give me a safe space to feel all my emotions, and someone who would understand the nuances of also being Latina with this devastating diagnosis. Sana Sana is dedicated to supporting Hispanic and Latina breast cancer survivors who have always been the “strong ones” and now feel lost in their identity after cancer diagnosis. I will share the foundation of my EcoSystem of Healing™️ coaching process, which I use to help my clients restore trust in their bodies, release perfectionism, advocate for themselves, and live from a place of healing and peace rather than survival. However you found this show, you're supposed to be here. Follow Sana Sana wherever you listen, and share it with one hermana who needs it. Sana sana, hermana. We’ll talk soon!
