S2E36: Path to Motherhood - Sharing Mom Perspective with Chris Fusco, Carolyn Miller, Niki Vericker and Toni Thorne
Happy Mother’s Day from the show me the way podcast!!! Today’s a very special episode as last minute I decided to honor some of my favorite moms, including my mom, my mother-in-law and my sisters. It was so fun to have all four of these beautiful women on the show. On this podcast we talk about handling adversity in life, and what happens when you have to pivot and the perspective after, but I don’t know if anything changes you more than being a mom. I wanted to create a fun conversation where we all shared our experiences and it was really great to not only listen to these women talk about motherhood, but also to hear them talk about their kids and how blessed they are to be moms, grandmas and even soon to be an official nana! I love my mom, my mother in law and my sisters so much! What a great way to interview them and have them on the show! Enjoy!

S2E34: Everything is Figureoutable - with Nathan Miller
Today’s episode is the perfect example of what Show Me the Way is all about—pivoting when life doesn’t go according to plan. I originally had a guest scheduled, but due to some last-minute changes, I found myself without someone lined up for this week. Since I had already done a solo episode last week, I convinced my son, Nathan, to join me for his second appearance on the podcast. He wasn’t fully prepared, but I asked him to share about some recent moments of adversity and difficult times he’s experienced. Nathan opened up in such an honest and thoughtful way, sharing his perspective on how he works through hard moments and reminding us that sometimes things happen for a reason—and that we will get through them.Nathan teaches me every day that there is always a way forward. Sometimes things don’t happen the traditional way, but that doesn’t mean they can’t happen in a different way—or, as I like to say, in “Nathan’s way.”That’s exactly what I hope to continue highlighting through Show Me the Way—the moments when life requires us to pivot, take an unexpected turn, and learn something valuable along the way.I’m so grateful to Nathan for stepping in, sharing his heart, and showing such openness, honesty, and love. This conversation offers a perspective we can all learn from. And we have our 11th Annual Nathan's Ninja's family fun run coming up - Sunday July 19. S2E35: Protecting Your Peace after Unimaginable Loss - with Haley Kilman
In today’s episode, I’m joined by Haley Kilman, a connection I’m incredibly grateful for through a referral from my former boss and friend, Eric Swanson. Haley is a poised, thoughtful, and resilient young woman who brought so much honesty and depth to our conversation.Haley shares her journey through personal adversity, including past struggles with depression, but nothing could have prepared her for the devastating loss she experienced just last December. Her live-in boyfriend—soon to be her fiancé—was tragically killed in a cycling accident near their home after being hit by a drunk driver. As you can imagine, the grief is still very fresh, and Haley is continuing to navigate the emotional and practical realities of losing not just a partner, but the life they were building together.Despite the unimaginable weight of her loss, Haley courageously opens up in hopes of helping others feel less alone. She offers insight into the often-overlooked realities that come with losing a significant other—things many of us never think about until faced with them.We also talk about the importance of community. Haley reflects on the incredible support system surrounding her and emphasizes how vital it is to nurture friendships long before you need them. She closes the episode with heartfelt advice on how to show up for someone going through grief—what helps, what doesn’t, and how simply being present can make all the difference. This conversation is raw, meaningful, and deeply human. A powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, connection and support can help guide us forward—one day at a time.

Often we have to turn right instead of left and our plans look way different than we expected, but the way we react after the fact and learn from our pivot is critical. S2E32: "Sempre Gumby" - Always Be Flexible with Chip Scholz
In today’s episode, I sit down with Chip Sholz, someone I connected with through an online podcast networking community. You know how certain people just stand out? Chip was one of those for me. After reading his profile, I knew he would bring something special to the show—and he absolutely did.As I always say, everyone has a story… and Chip has many. While a major healthcare event significantly altered the course of his life years ago, what stands out most is his perspective. Instead of focusing on one defining moment, Chip reflects on the many “bumps and grinds” along the way—the small, everyday decisions that ultimately shape the direction of our lives. This conversation is a little different from most. Rather than centering on one specific turning point, Chip shares meaningful insights and examples from across his life, offering powerful reminders about growth, resilience, and intention.Chip is a husband, a father of three girls, a coach who truly values relationships, and someone with a deep passion for woodturning. He’s also an accomplished author, and in this episode, he shares the inspiration behind his books along with plenty of wisdom listeners can take with them.I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Chip, and I know you will too.And to follow Chip and check out his book selections, visit https://scholzandassociates.com/.

S2E31: Always Say I Love You - with Deena Elliott
Today’s episode also comes with a heartfelt disclaimer, as it explores another deeply emotional story of resilience and strength. This conversation was made possible through a referral from Christine Ankenbauer, who continues to connect us with incredible individuals willing to share their journeys. In this episode, I speak with Deena Elliott, an inspiring mother who truly shows us the way through unimaginable loss. After unexpectedly losing her husband of 19 years, Deena was suddenly faced with navigating life as a single parent while helping her two children process their own grief. In a short period of time, she endured additional heartbreak with the loss of other loved ones, including her father. Despite overwhelming challenges, Deena found the strength to keep moving forward, supporting her children, continuing to work, and finding ways to rebuild a sense of stability for her family.Through the support of her loving family and the guidance of therapy, Deena discovered the importance of caring for herself while caring for others. She shares how prioritizing her health and wellness became a meaningful outlet, leading to significant personal transformation. Today, she is pursuing certification to help others on their own wellness journeys.Deena vulnerably shares her story as a reminder to cherish the people in our lives, to say “I love you” often, and to reach out when someone crosses our mind. S2E30: A Journey Through Loss, Love and Legacy - with Jodi Sorrels
Before I share today’s episode, I want to include two important notes.First, a heartfelt thank you to Christine Ankenbauer for the incredibly meaningful referrals. Christine, I have truly enjoyed meeting your connections and appreciate your support of the show more than you know.Second, many of my episodes are emotional and deeply compelling, and this one is no exception. As I recorded and later edited this conversation, I found myself moved to tears. It is a powerful story — one that I believe will touch many of us and leave us with meaningful perspective.Today’s guest is Jodi Sorrels. Jodi is a kind, energetic, loving, and passionate mama, wife, and friend. She is a dental hygienist who, like me, loves connecting with others, and we clicked the moment we first spoke. Christine was absolutely right — Jodi’s story is one that needs to be shared.Jodi has experienced the unimaginable grief that no parent should ever have to endure. Just one year ago, she lost her son Curt after a six-year battle with an extremely rare cancer that he was diagnosed with while still in high school. Through years of treatments, surgeries, setbacks, pain, and uncertainty, Curt continued to show remarkable bravery, resilience, and maturity.Despite everything he faced, Curt was determined to live as fully as possible. He enrolled at Ferris State University, pursued a degree in Construction Management, excelled academically, served as president of his fraternity, and built a beautiful two-year relationship with someone very special. He refused to let cancer define his spirit or limit his dreams. As Jodi vulnerably shares her story, what shines through is the deep love of a mother who fought tirelessly for her son — advocating for the best care possible while continuing to care for her husband and two other children. The pain of losing Curt is something she will carry for the rest of her life, but Jodi is channeling that love into purpose. She is committed to spreading awareness, fundraising, and supporting others who may one day face a similar journey. While none of us can fully understand what Jodi has experienced, there is so much we can learn from her strength, perspective, and willingness to share her story. This episode may bring tears, but it will also remind you of the power of love, courage, and the importance of cherishing every moment. Please listen, reflect, and consider sharing this episode with someone who may need this message. 💛And as mentioned, please visit https://fibrofighters.org/ for more information on the fundraising Jodi spoke about and also, if you'd like more information, text CJSTRONG to 44321. S2E29: Stronger than the Stroke - with Sarah Rood
In this episode of the Show Me the Way, I sit down with Sarah Rood, a vibrant, joyful, and resilient young woman whose life took an unexpected turn at just 32 years old. What started as an ordinary day—heading out to watch a friend’s child play hockey—quickly became anything but normal when Sarah suddenly experienced alarming symptoms, including limb drooping and slurred speech.Trusting her instincts, Sarah called her mom, who immediately recognized the signs of a possible stroke and called 911. Despite her age and lack of prior health issues, which initially led to some uncertainty from first responders, doctors later confirmed she had suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot.Sarah shares the fear and anxiety she faced during her hospital stay, especially as someone who has navigated anxiety for much of her life. With the support of her parents and care team, she pushed through one of her biggest challenges—learning to give herself blood thinner injections—choosing faith over fear in a powerful moment of courage. Her journey didn’t end there. Follow-up testing revealed an even more shocking diagnosis: thyroid cancer. While difficult to process, Sarah reflects on how the stroke ultimately led to catching the cancer early—something she now views as an unexpected blessing.Today, Sarah channels her experience into purpose, working with the American Heart Association and advocating for greater awareness around stroke symptoms and heart health. Her story is a powerful reminder that medical emergencies can happen to anyone, and that knowing the signs and acting quickly can save lives. This conversation is filled with honesty, perspective, and practical advice—an inspiring testament to resilience, faith, and finding meaning through life’s most challenging moments. To learn more about upcoming events in your area or to better understand the signs of a stroke or other heart related issues, please visit the American Heart Association at heart.org

S2E28: 100 Reasons to Stay - with Connie Nagy
Today on Show Me the Way, I’m honored to share the story of a very special guest, Connie Nagy, who was referred to me by Christine Ankenbauer. Connie is a fellow Michigander, a respiratory therapist, a wife, and a mother who has faced the unimaginable.Connie’s younger child—her only son—was a high school student who loved being in the band, playing video games, and spending time with family. He was a sweet, smart kid who showed love to those around him and regularly shared stories and conversations with his family. Tragically, one day after school—and after failing a big math test—he took his own life.Looking back, Connie reflects that there may have been signs of anxiety, lack of sleep, and possibly depression that were closer to the surface than she realized at the time. But many of these struggles are things parents often see as teens navigate the challenges of high school. For Connie and her family—her husband, daughter, and son-in-law—the loss was shocking and heartbreaking. In the midst of unimaginable grief, Connie chose to honor her son by turning her pain into purpose. She has become a passionate advocate for suicide prevention—sharing her family’s story, speaking to students, appearing on stages, displaying yellow ribbons, and fundraising to spread awareness.Connie reminds teens that there are 100+ reasons to stay, even when life feels overwhelming. Her mission is simple but powerful: if her message helps even one person choose to keep going, she knows it will make a difference. She has already seen the impact through messages from people who’ve connected with her story on social media, reminding them that they are not alone.Connie and her family have also started a foundation to continue spreading awareness and providing support. She encourages listeners to visit their social media pages for more information—and most importantly, to remember that no one has to face their struggles alone. This episode is emotional, powerful, and deeply important. Connie’s courage in sharing her story is helping bring light to a topic that needs more conversation, compassion, and understanding. Please visit Car's foundation at https://www.facebook.com/lovecarl2019 or https://carlnagyfoundation.wixsite.com/mysite?fbclid=IwY2xjawQkMIJleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFUclhUWm1DZWliQWxaalJRc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHs4BkSQysIsYO2O_kmPxiVX20ejWGxWbRYFl2ysicVIuJ8rAjDqEN0jzVm0x_aem_l4pTnlle72l9TVpVraIs_g

S2E26: You Will be Ok - a 17 year-old's story of Growth, Strength and Perspective with Marly Coons
This week on The Show Me the Way Podcast, I had the absolute joy of interviewing one of my youngest guests — my niece, Marly Coons — and wow, does she bring wisdom beyond her years. At just 17, Marly has already walked through experiences that have shaped her perspective in powerful ways. When she was young, her parents divorced. At first, life felt fairly routine with joint custody. After several years and many experiences later, her parents attempted to reunite, but when that chapter definitively closed, life shifted. Marly began living full-time with her mom, seeing her dad and brother about once a week.Through it all, Marly has maintained strong, loving relationships with both of her parents. She openly acknowledges that she and her brother are very different, but she values the bond they share and the unique connection they’ve built over the years. One of the things that stood out most in our conversation is Marly’s maturity. She admits she has often felt older than her age, but she now sees that as a gift. It’s helped shape her resilience, her perspective, and her deep understanding that hard seasons don’t last forever.Marly carries a strong work ethic — something she proudly attributes to her mom. Throughout high school, she's balanced multiple jobs, sports, friendships, family commitments, and somehow even managed to make it so she'll earn her associate's degree alongside her high school diploma in the spring! Her drive is undeniable. After graduation, she’s excited to attend Ohio State University alongside her best friend — a new chapter she’s stepping into with confidence and big goals. One especially touching moment from our conversation was when Marly shared about a recent English paper she wrote. In it, she reflected on how much she looks up to her cousin Nathan and the strength he’s shown through difficult times. Watching him navigate challenges has given her perspective and reminded her that we are capable of more than we realize. That shift in thinking — choosing to see things just a little differently — can truly change everything.Marly’s advice is simple but powerful:Remind the people you love — especially children — that they can count on others. That even when life looks different than planned, it will be okay. Stability doesn’t always mean things stay the same; sometimes it means knowing you’re supported no matter what. This episode is a beautiful reminder that strength isn’t about avoiding hard things — it’s about growing through them. And sometimes the most profound wisdom comes from the youngest voices.I’m so proud of the woman Marly is becoming, and I know you’ll walk away from this conversation encouraged and inspired. 💛

This week on Show Me the Way, I am truly honored to sit down with Christine Ankenbauer — a referral from one of my dear friends and biggest podcast supporters, Christine Spradlin.Christine Ankenbauer is an incredibly strong woman who survived the unthinkable. An avid runner, highly active, strong-willed, hardworking and positive wife and mom, Christine was used to doing it all. Long runs. Long workdays. Extra workouts. Full family life. She thrived on movement and momentum. So when she began feeling unusually exhausted in her early 50s, it didn’t make sense. She pushed through.Like so many women, she didn’t want to show weakness. But when the fatigue wouldn’t go away and she still felt “off,” she knew something wasn’t right. After struggling to get clear answers from doctors, her worst fear became reality. One morning, she woke up nauseous with intense chest pain. Home alone, she realized she was having a heart attack. She crawled to her phone and called for help — a moment that would change everything.Christine shares what it felt like to truly believe she might lose her life. She opens up about the fear, the mindset shifts, the frustration of not feeling heard medically, and the power of self-advocacy. With the support of her husband, friends, and eventually the right medical team, she was able to enter cardiac rehab and fight her way back to the active lifestyle she loves. Her story is a powerful reminder: • Listen to your body. • Advocate for yourself. • Don’t ignore the subtle signs. • Keep moving and caring for your health. • Never give up.I am so grateful to Christine for vulnerably sharing her journey. This conversation will inspire you to take your health seriously and remind you that strength isn’t about pushing through — it’s about knowing when to ask for help.

S2E24: The Way Through the Hard with Tanner Locke
This week on Show Me the Way, I sat down with someone very close to my heart, Tanner Locke. I’ve known Tanner since he was little, and it has been incredible to watch him grow into a resilient, grounded young man who continues to shine a light for everyone around him.A member of the Ohio Northern University men’s soccer team for the last four and a half years, Tanner’s college career looked a lot different than he expected. While he was a powerful contributor and a true leader, much of his time was spent in rehab, recovering from multiple surgeries, injuries, and ongoing medical challenges. Not every day felt hopeful. But Tanner never quit. Each setback seemed to build a deeper determination in him, and he found a way to come back stronger every time.In this episode, Tanner opens up about the emotional toll of hospital visits, the frustration of being sidelined, and what it took to keep moving forward. He talks about the people who carried him when things felt heavy — his parents, brothers, girlfriend, teammates, their families, and the coaches and staff who stood beside him.Above all, Tanner shares how his unwavering faith in God anchored him through and helped lead him to an injury-free, incredibly successful final season.I know many listeners are in my age group, but this is a conversation to pass along to your kids, their friends, or anyone who needs a reminder that the past doesn’t define the future. Tanner’s story is proof that resilience, community, and belief can carry you farther than you ever imagined. If this one moves you, share it with someone who might need that spark of hope 🤍

S2E23: Called to Motherhood through Faith and Intentionality with Emily Bauman
In this week’s episode, I sit down with my friend and referral partner, Emily Bauman. Emily and I have spent some time together in a networking group that meets three times a month, and through that time I’ve come to know her and I knew she would offer powerful perspective and that she would teach us something meaningful along the way.Emily and her husband began their marriage with a strong foundation, but after the loss of his father, her husband wasn’t sure fatherhood was in his future. Emily, however, had always known she was meant to be a mom — it was nonnegotiable. By giving him space while still being honest about her deep desire for children, he ultimately realized he was meant to be a father too.Soon after discovering their first pregnancy, Emily experienced the heartbreak of miscarriage. Without clear answers and while carrying the heavy question of why, she still felt called to keep trying. Through life transitions and multiple moves, she and her husband stayed intentional about building their family. After that first loss, they welcomed a beautiful daughter. In the years that followed, although they were blessed with two more children, Emily endured additional miscarriages. Together, she and her husband walked through intense grief and trauma. Yet through it all, Emily held tight to her calling to be a mother. Because she was physically and medically able to continue, they kept going until they had the family they cherish today.Emily shares vulnerably and emotionally about perseverance, intentional living, and the strength she found in her faith. Even if you’ve never experienced miscarriage, you will connect deeply with her story if you’ve ever faced disappointment, uncertainty, or a season that required you to keep going when it felt impossibly hard. S2E22: Placed for a Reason - Love, Loss and Parenting Through Autism with Shamin Sanders
This week on the Show Me the Way podcast, I sit down with my high school friend, Shamin Sanders—someone I remember as incredibly inclusive, kind-hearted, and full of joy. Even though we haven't seen each other in person in many years, Shamin is one of those people who has felt deeply connected to my family’s journey after Nathan’s diagnosis. She is truly someone God placed in my life for a reason.Shamin is a mom of two daughters. Her youngest has been diagnosed with autism and is nonverbal, which means communicating her thoughts, feelings, and physical needs can be incredibly challenging. Shamin, her husband, their older daughter, and a loving circle of family and friends have spent years learning what works best for their family and how to best support their daughter. However, recently, Shamin experienced another profound hardship—the loss of both of her parents within a very short time. She lovingly describes them as the mayor and first lady of her family, and their absence deeply changed the way her household functioned, especially when it came to care and support for her daughter. In this episode, Shamin vulnerably shares the emotional toll of grief, the exhaustion that comes with constant caregiving, and what it was like to leave a career she loved so she could stay home and be fully available for her daughter. While every day brings new challenges—and often requires a pivot—Shamin and her husband have learned how to lean on one another, grow stronger as partners, and create the best life possible for both of their girls.Shamin’s love for her family shines through every part of our conversation. The wisdom and encouragement she shares are powerful for anyone facing adversity—whether you’re navigating a child’s diagnosis, grieving loved ones, or walking through a season that feels overwhelming. She reminds us how important it is to seek support, take time for ourselves, give our partners space to do the same, and intentionally build a safe, loving, and trusting home base.I know you’ll love this episode and learn just as much as I did. 💛

S2E20: Still Here By God's Grace with Carla Haun
This week on the Show Me the Way podcast, I had what can only be described as a miracle conversation with my guest, Carla Haun.Carla was introduced to me by one of my biggest supporters and frequent guest-connector, Christine Spradlin, who knew Carla carried an incredibly special and inspirational story that needed to be shared. In 2020, Carla was diagnosed with COVID, and it hit her hard. Her condition quickly worsened, leading to hospitalization, sepsis, and multiple strokes. She became one of the first COVID patients to be placed on ECMO, a life-support machine used to help her lungs function, and spent many days in a coma.Carla bravely shares the terrifying reality of her experience—how many times she truly believed she was going to die, the unimaginable pain of having to say goodbye to her family on more than one occasion, and the emotional toll of fighting for her life. She recounts seeing the light and being reminded by God that she still had work to do in this life, especially as a mother. That moment fueled her determination to fight her way out of the coma, survive without ECMO, and move forward with her life.Having this conversation at all feels surreal, as Carla firmly believes it is nothing short of a miracle that she is alive today. She also speaks beautifully about the importance of community—her family and friends who stood by her like family—and reminds us all of the power of faith, positivity, and perseverance. This episode is a powerful reminder to never give up, even in our darkest days, and to lean on the people who love us when we need them most.✨ An episode full of faith, resilience, and hope—you won’t want to miss this one.

S2E18: Carrying On Through Loss, Love, and Duchenne with Kelly Fitzpatrick
This week on the Show Me the Way podcast, I’m joined by my friend and fellow Duchenne mom, Kelly Fitzpatrick. Kelly is an energetic, strong-willed, and fiercely independent superhero mama who has worn many hats over the years — including Army veteran, dental hygienist, yogi, and mom to three boys.Kelly’s life has taken her across multiple states through her military service, education, and career. She married a fellow serviceman, and together they welcomed three boys close in age. When her oldest began showing signs of muscle weakness, Kelly trusted her instincts and started digging for answers. That search led to a devastating diagnosis: Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Soon after, she learned she was a genetic carrier — and heartbreakingly, that her two younger sons were also affected. As if that wasn’t enough, Kelly found herself navigating profound loss and change all at once. Within the same year as the diagnoses, her marriage ended in divorce, and a few years later, she also lost her mother. Today, Kelly cares for her boys mostly full-time, facing new challenges daily. While she has some support from family and friends, she’s still learning how to ask for — and accept — help.Despite enduring an incredible amount of adversity in a short period of time, Kelly continues to show up for her boys with love, strength, and determination. She is deeply reflective in this episode, sharing how she’s beginning to better understand her own needs — even as she so often puts her children first, sometimes at the expense of her own self-care.Kelly’s story offers powerful lessons for all of us, regardless of our circumstances. She reminds us to stay present, to ask for help specifically and accept it when we need it, to say no when something isn’t right, and to never give up — because there is always a way to figure something out.Kelly and her boys offer incredible perspective, resilience, and grace. I’m truly honored she shared her journey and wisdom on the show.

S2E17: Nathan's Way - Lessons on Perspective, Resilience and Love with Nathan Miller
This week on the Show Me the Way podcast, I sit down with the true inspiration behind this show—my 16-year-old son, Nathan. As expected, Nathan brings an incredible outlook on life, sharing his beautiful perspective, positivity, and wisdom far beyond his years. Even from his wheelchair, he understands that life has required him to do things Nathan’s way—and he’s figured out how to navigate every challenge that comes his way. From a very young age, he showed us just how capable and intuitive he was, often teaching us the way we needed to adapt and support him. After his diagnosis, his dad and I knew our path would look completely different than what we originally imagined. Nathan reminds us every single day that this is okay. He teaches us to live in the present, to release expectations that may not come true, and to accept that life doesn’t always go as planned—sometimes you have to make a left instead of a right.Nathan also opens up honestly about the harder parts: being part of a clinical trial, taking medications, being poked and prodded, and navigating life in a wheelchair. While these things can be difficult, he shares how they can also be okay—especially when you’re surrounded by love and support. Nathan speaks with gratitude about feeling deeply loved, the support of Nathan’s Ninjas, and the excitement of getting to choose an upcoming Make-A-Wish experience.I’m so grateful Nathan was willing to join me for this conversation. I know you’ll learn from his perspective just as much as I did. 💙

S2E15: Taking the Path from Tragedy to Triumph - with DiAnne Karas
This week on Show Me the Way, I had the absolute joy of interviewing DiAnne Karas—a connection through my sister and previous guest, Toni. What a beautiful and inspiring conversation.DiAnne has experienced more pivots than most, beginning early in life with foster care and adoption, navigating complex relationships with her biological parents, marriages and divorces, young single motherhood, multiple degrees, and a wide range of careers and vocations. She’s lived all over the country and truly lived through each chapter. What stood out most to me is how DiAnne has consistently found blessings and gained perspective from every road she’s traveled. Through it all, she followed her heart, leaned into her faith, and never lost her deep love for serving others. She understands the power of community, refuses to let fear hold her back, and has always gone after what she believed was best for herself and her children.Today, DiAnne is a joyful, spirited, and faith-filled woman with an infectious love for life and a passion for helping others. S2E14: Stronger Than the Spiral - Path to Healing with Corey Gill
This week on Show Me the Way, I had the joy of interviewing someone I’ve known since preschool — Corey Gill. Corey and I have over 40 years of history together. Our families were connected, our moms worked together, we played sports, enjoyed music, shared laughs, and thanks to social media, we’ve been able to reconnect as adults.I’ve always admired Corey as a strong, competent woman. I love following her hardcore workout routine, her beautiful relationship with her husband, things about her son who’s the same age as my oldest, her daughter, and her adorable grandkids. Corey is a hardworking wife, mom, and grandma who is always striving to improve herself and create the best life for her family. But this past summer, things shifted. Corey’s usual “worry mode” dialed up, leading to a major panic attack that left her struggling to work, to function, and to keep up with her regular routines. What came after was a season of deep anxiety — the kind so many of us quietly battle. We may not all experience a full-blown panic attack, but we often do let worries take over when we try to control everything or chase perfection. Fear creeps in, and faith gets pushed aside. In this episode, Corey opens up with incredible honesty about what she went through. She shares what she learned, what she researched, and the steps she’s taking now to regulate her nervous system and move forward with hope and intention. Her vulnerability is powerful, relatable, and such a gift. This is an important, timely conversation — especially as we head into the holiday season, when stress and expectations can run high. I’m honored Corey trusted me with her story, and I know you’ll walk away feeling seen, supported, and encouraged.Corey mentioned a book - here is the title if you want to check it out - Dare: The New Way to End Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks by Barry McDonagh.

S2E13: Holding Onto Hope - with Shari Davidek
This week on Show Me the Way, I sit down with Shari Davidek. I met Shari through my local Chamber of Commerce networking group, where she works behind the scenes and is a huge support to everyone involved. My friend and former guest, Christine Spradlin, knew Shari had a meaningful story to share—and she was right.Shari is a devoted wife and mom of five—four boys and one girl—who have each shaped her into the strong, grounded woman she is today. But nothing could have prepared her or her husband for what happened when their oldest son was in high school. He suffered two strokes in a very short period of time, leaving doctors unsure if he would survive, let alone walk, talk, or remain the same person they knew and loved.Their son endured a coma, uncertainty, and immense suffering. But then—miraculously—he woke up. Within just weeks, he began to communicate. What followed was a long road of therapy and determination, but he pushed through with resilience that inspired everyone around him.Not only did he recover, but he thrived. He finished high school, attended community college, found a job, lived independently with new roommates, and eventually went away to school where he made friends—and met the woman who would become his wife. Today, he is working, married, and living with the kind of gratitude and perspective that only comes from surviving the unimaginable.Shari shares this emotional journey with honesty, vulnerability, and incredible insight. She opens up about how the experience shaped her marriage, her parenting, and her children’s view of the world. Her story is powerful, perspective-shifting, and filled with wisdom we can all use—whether or not we’ve faced a tragedy like hers. This is an episode you’ll carry with you long after it ends.

S2E11: Hope, Hardships and a Whole Love of Heart - Hallelujah with Alicia Schweizer
This week on the Show Me the Way podcast, I have the absolute honor of interviewing one of my closest friends, Alicia Schweizer. Alicia is truly my sister from another mister—my constant supporter, my sounding board, and the person who always shows up for me without hesitation. She’s the kind of friend who will drop anything to listen, pray, send encouragement, or simply hold space.I’ve wanted her on the show since day one because I knew her story mattered. I knew her perspective would touch people, remind them they aren’t alone, and offer hope in the hardest seasons.Alicia is a boy mom of three—two older teens and a 10-year-old she lovingly describes as “medically complex.” In this episode, she opens up about the journey her family has navigated with her youngest son and the many twists, turns, and surprises along the way.Her story is full of resilience, faith, and courage. S2E10: Carrying Our Rocks - Empathy, Faith, and Resilience with Jen Shumsky
This week on Show Me the Way, I had the joy of sitting down with my friend and fellow Duchenne mom, Jen Shumsky. Our families have known each other through the Duchenne community for years, but it’s been a while since we really caught up—and this conversation was such a gift.Jen’s story is full of unexpected turns and beautiful “Godwinks.” As a college student, she had her sights set on a TV and movie career, laughing at friends who were going into nursing. She was sure she’d be living in California someday—but life had other plans. Eventually, she felt called to nursing herself, a choice that not only reshaped her career but also brought her back home to Michigan (Go Blue!). One more year in the dorms led her to meet her husband, and all those seemingly small choices became defining moments on her journey.Today, Jen is a wife and mom of two incredible kids—one living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and the other with type 1 diabetes. She and her family have faced these challenges with grace, strength, and heart. Her nursing background gave her the knowledge to navigate complex medical systems and inspired her to start her own consulting business, helping families who feel lost and overwhelmed by insurance or healthcare struggles. My favorite takeaways were : • Medical diagnoses are the least interesting things about people—they are made up of so much more. • Everyone carries a “backpack” filled with rocks. Some we can toss out, but others we must carry—and when we remember that, we lead with empathy and understanding.Jen’s perspective is such a reminder that every twist in the road has purpose. What an inspiring and heartfelt conversation!Find Jen and her consulting business on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jennifer-shumsky-bsn-rn-cnmap-pacs-bcpa-chco-a587a0102/

S2E9: Finding Joy After Loss - with Kristina Wittner
This week on Show Me the Way, I’m joined by my newer friend and referral partner, Kristina Wittner. Over the past few months, Kristina and I have grown closer, and when she told me she had a story she wanted to share, I knew it would be meaningful. After some back-and-forth to find the right time, we finally made it happen—and, as always, the timing was just right.Kristina opens up about the loss of her best friend, Tina, who passed away from cancer nearly a year ago. Tina had always been outgoing and full of energy, but her diagnosis changed her—she became more withdrawn and private, even with her family. Kristina never gave up on her friend and did everything she could to support her, but she also realized how deeply the experience affected her own emotional health.Through therapy, faith, and the love of her Mary Kay community, friends, and family, Kristina found strength and light through her grief. Today, she continues to run a thriving Mary Kay business, stays active in networking (including the group we share!), and chooses daily to pursue joy and connection.Kristina leaves us with powerful reminders—to live the life we’re meant to live, go after our joy, and take care of ourselves. She encourages us to speak up when we need help because people want to support us—and we all need that kind of love and connection in our lives. It’s a heartfelt conversation about love, loss, resilience, and the courage to keep showing up for life. For more information on Kristina's business and her chemo care packages, find Kristina on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/kristinamwittner and browse her Mary Kay site at marykay.com/kwittner.

In today’s episode, I have the absolute honor of sitting down with my little sister, Toni Thorne. She’s been on my list for quite some time—not only because she’s one of my biggest supporters, but because I knew she had powerful stories and perspectives to share.Toni opens up about her journey through three marriages and divorces, reflecting on the patterns she’s recognized and how therapy, faith, and a deep desire to grow have helped her take accountability and move forward. We talk about what it truly means to have a partner in life, and how essential it is to lean on a supportive community of family and friends when things get tough.Toni also shares candidly about the challenges of shared parenting, her ongoing efforts to improve, and her hopes for a brighter, more peaceful future. S2E7: Trusting What You Feel - The Power of Intuition with Tricia White
In this fascinating and unexpected episode, I sit down with Tricia White, a local community member whose journey is anything but ordinary. You may remember my very first guest, Amy Fava, and how I said everyone needs an Amy—well, Tricia and I actually met through her! What makes Tricia’s story so intriguing is the path that led her to become a medium and tarot card reader. After experiencing a personal loss, Tricia began to sense energy and realized she was deeply in tune with her intuition. Through mentorship, community, and continuous learning, she honed her skills and eventually built a business that allows her to support others—while also being a stay-at-home mom.We dive into everything from Tricia’s beliefs about God and a higher power, to how this all ties into manifestation, intuition, and helping others heal. S2E5: Trusting the Nudge - a story of healing and hope with Nicole Wagner
In this episode, I have the honor of speaking with Nicole Wagner. Like other guests I've had on this show, Nicole and I first met through an incredible community and network marketing business, and we became closer after spending time together on an incentive trip. I’ve always known Nicole to be an excellent communicator with many stories to share, but in this conversation, she opens up about one that deeply impacted her life and her family — her experience with breast implant illness.Nicole described herself as a scrawny child who struggled to put on weight and eventually decided that a breast implant might help her feel more feminine. As an avid long-distance runner, she wanted a small implant and felt confident in her decision, fully supported by her husband. However, shortly after surgery, Nicole began to experience a range of mysterious symptoms — joint pain, fatigue, and an overall sense that something wasn’t right. Her once-active lifestyle came to a halt as her body weakened. Planning family outings or even standing for long periods became a challenge. Despite visiting multiple doctors and receiving different diagnoses, Nicole trusted her intuition and continued to advocate for herself, determined to find answers. After reading an article shared by a mutally connected friend, Nicole discovered that many of her symptoms were consistent with breast implant illness. Following extensive research and connection with others facing similar struggles, she made the decision to have explant surgery — and it changed everything. Now, Nicole is passionate about sharing her story, raising awareness, and empowering other women to listen to their bodies and trust their instincts. Her journey is a powerful reminder to never stop advocating for yourself and to always follow those inner nudges — whether it’s to seek help, offer support, or reach out to someone who might need it.I’m so grateful to Nicole for her honesty, courage, and vulnerability in sharing this message. It’s an important conversation we can all learn from. For more information, please check out Nicole's shared resources: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1ZXZZvoDUW/https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1BbdXysV6p/https://www.facebook.com/share/g/17Vb4RGURX/ https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23366-breast-implant-illness

On today’s episode of Show Me the Way, I have the pleasure of interviewing Sandy Kovach, co-host of the Imagine Yourself podcast. You may remember my friend Lanee Blaise—who helped inspire and encourage me when starting this show. Lanee and Sandy are partners on Imagine Yourself, and I’ve had the privilege of learning so much from both of them. After being a guest on their podcast, I knew I wanted to invite Sandy here to share her story and wisdom.Sandy is married and an empty-nester, with her son now grown and pursuing a career in music. She opened up about her career in radio and voiceover work, the challenges that come with changes in format and direction, and the tough seasons she and her husband faced when both were out of work. She also shared how faith and prayer have carried her through those uncertain times, including health challenges, and helped shape her into the woman she is today. We also talked about passion—how Sandy has pursued hers and how she has encouraged her son to follow his dreams, even when the path seemed impractical. She values the balance of having a degree to fall back on but celebrates the courage it takes to chase after what truly lights you up.Finally, we discussed the Imagine Yourself podcast and Sandy’s hope that every listener takes away small nuggets of encouragement, perspective, and inspiration—whether from guests’ stories or from the conversations she and Lanee share.Sandy is such a strong, thoughtful speaker, and I’m so grateful she joined me to share her voice, faith, and perspective with all of us.Please look for the Imagine Yourself podcast wherever you listen to podcasts or visit their website - https://www.imagineyourselfpodcast.com/

S2E3: Surviving and Thriving After Abuse - with Tiffiny Newton
Today’s guest on the Show Me the Way podcast is Tiffany Newton—a woman I connected with through a podcast guest matching site. It’s so interesting how you can scroll through countless profiles, and then one person just stands out. I always feel like those moments are little “God winks”—reminders that people are placed in front of us for a reason. That’s exactly how it felt when I read Tiffany’s story. I had a strong nudge to reach out, and I’m so glad I did.Tiffany bravely shares her journey of surviving domestic abuse within a romantic relationship. Even as a strong, independent, and intelligent woman, she found herself deeply in love with someone who did not treat her as such. Her heartbreaking story is a reminder of how easily someone can try to control, diminish, and take away our joy—no matter how much love we give. What’s so powerful about Tiffany’s story is how she has transformed her pain into purpose. She speaks openly to let others know they are not alone and that it is possible to reclaim your life. S1E51: Serving in Love and Loving to Serve - with Pastor Jean Overman
Today’s episode truly embodies the heart of the Show Me the Way podcast. What began as a space to share my son’s journey and the perspective he has given my husband, our older son, and me has grown into a platform where anyone can share their challenges, pivots, lessons, and growth. This week’s guest is Pastor Jean Overman. As I often say, when you know, like, and trust someone, the best connections come through referrals—and that’s exactly how Jean and I met. I first met Deodge through a networking group, and from the moment I heard her journey, I as well as others knew it needed to be shared. As a young college student, Deodge became a mother and was blessed to meet a kind, supportive friend who would later become her husband. Together for 12 years, they built a beautiful life and raised four children. But tragedy struck when her husband, a police officer, was shot in the line of duty and later passed away after a long hospital battle. In the years that followed, Deodge worked to support her family as a single mother. S1E47: The Road Back to You - with Melissa Goldstein
In this powerful and heartfelt episode, I sit down with Melissa Goldstein—an extraordinary woman who brings deep wisdom, resilience, and perspective to the mic. While she may share a name with another past guest, her story is uniquely her own.Melissa wears many hats: she’s a wife, mom of two, lawyer, adjunct professor, yoga and Pilates instructor, and a woman with a heart for service. A cancer survivor—but not defined by it—Melissa shares how her diagnosis at a young age during the pandemic shook her world, especially after always prioritizing her health.Through her journey of surgery, chemo, and radiation, Melissa learned the importance of self-advocacy, especially in the midst of a chaotic and uncertain time. She opened up about how cancer changed her physically and mentally, and how she chose gratitude over bitterness—focusing not on “why me?” but on “what now?”Now, Melissa is turning her pain into purpose through her growing venture, MHG – Road Back to You. She’s dedicated to supporting others on their cancer journey—whether through tailored yoga and Pilates training, advocacy coaching, or simply reminding them that joy is still possible. Her mission is to help others reconnect with themselves, even when life looks different than expected.Melissa’s vulnerability, strength, and her grandmother’s timeless wisdom—“if the door isn’t open, there may be a window”—invite us all to reconsider how we view life’s pivots. Much like my family’s journey with Nathan, Melissa reminds us that just because something can’t be done the way we planned, doesn’t mean it can’t be done beautifully in another way. This episode is a moving reminder that we have the power to choose gratitude, to adapt, and to keep going—not just for ourselves, but for those who come after us.

S1E46: Creating a Life You Love - with Brenda Noon Schmidt
In today’s episode, I’m joined by my quotes online bestie, Brenda Noon Schmidt, for an inspirational and fun conversation you won’t want to miss. Brenda and I connected virtually through a past guest, Emily Jacobs, and although we’ve never met in person, we’ve built a genuine online friendship.Brenda is a busy wife and mom of three, but her journey to this season of life is filled with intentional pivots and powerful perspective shifts. She shares how, after growing up caring for her younger siblings, she once believed motherhood wasn’t for her. S1E45: Creating Smiles - with Kari Mills
This week on Show Me the Way, I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing my friend, Kari Mills. Kari and I originally connected through business a few years ago, and while we don’t see each other in person often, we’ve stayed close through social media—cheering each other on and exchanging smiles from afar. Kari is truly a ray of sunshine, lighting up everyone’s feed with her joyful dancing reels and positive energy.A devoted wife, mom of two, and dental hygienist, Kari brings smiles to people both online and in real life. But as we chatted, it became clear that behind her ever-present smile was a recent season of deep grief and personal challenge. In a beautifully honest and vulnerable conversation, Kari opened up about the loss that dimmed her light and the journey she’s taken to find herself again. She shared how she navigated her pain, how it reshaped her, and why she’s committed to helping others rediscover their joy after difficult times. Kari may not be the same person she was before her grief—but she’s dancing again, and her story is a powerful reminder that healing is possible, even when life looks different on the other side.Tune in for a heartfelt conversation about resilience, identity, and the courage it takes to smile again. S1E44b - Never Give Up - Look Back at Guests Who Found Strength Through Unexpected Change with Andrea Miller
In this mini-episode, I reflect on the importance of never giving up - lessons we can learn through sports teams, through my son's journey, and through all of our guests, but especially through Kelly Lodish and Kari Grunwald who share in episodes 34 and 35 and Melanie Uzarek who I interviewed in episode 21. Often times, we face adversity and challenging times and find ourselves with a negative mindset and we have a choice to either stay there or lace up our boots and start walking forward. My guests have all experienced times in their lives where their paths had changed or they needed to pivot and when they share how they faced the curveball and came out stronger, we can all learn and take the advice to make sure we never give up. I'm so grateful to you as listeners and to our guests - let's keep showing one another the way. Remember, you are not alone and we are all here to help one another during this very short life. Please listen to these episodes and share with others - also, if you like what you hear, please leave a review and a rating. Every bit of feedback helps!

S1E41b: What I Didn't Say - Overall podcast and life reflections with Andrea Miller
In this mini episode, I reflect not on a specific podcast episode, but on things I wished I had said during interviews and on things I wished I had said during a meeting I had with a potential sponsor. We can all look back and regret how we showed up or the words we did or didn't say, but what we need to do is flip the script and take positive lessons from the experience. I interviewed a guest today - Brenda Noon Schmidt - who said you either learn or grow and I love that mindset. What a great lesson for us - I'm here to learn and grow this podcast and not only do I get that opportunity during every interview, I get to help listeners do the same. I also reflect on a powerful Mel Robbins' podcast episode as well focused on 6 mindset shifts that we can all take with us as we continue to show each other the way.Mel Robbins' Podcast episode - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/6-powerful-mindset-shifts-that-will-change-your-life/id1646101002?i=1000712800381
